I just visited this place today. I have been here twice before and definitely enjoyed the food. Today I ordered chicken teriyaki triangle and spicy shrimp triangle. In the spicy shrimp-found hair. So I took it to the girl at the register and all she didn't even care. She didn't say anything except for grabbed the basket and told the guy in the back that "shrimp has hair" and then She said -they will remake it-I don't want it remade after discovering that-gross. She didn't even apologize or offer a refund. So I walked out and definitely not coming back. 2 stars because I did like the food before, but definitely lack of customer service. read more

Went here for take-out the other day. Service was quick and since it was mid afternoon there was no line. But I noticed a lot of kids come here after school for a quick snack. The musubi triangles were inexpensive but good. I ordered two of each, the short rib and salmon musubis. The short rib one was good but the salmon a little dry. Next time I will try the spicy pork and unagi triangles. Parking is street and they take credit cards. Not many seats to eat there, so take-out is best. read more

Sorry to kill the love. While the filings (Korean BBQ, spicy pork) were tasty and generous in portion, it fell apart quite a bit while eating and the rice was bland. I think if you're used to onigiri you will realize how much of a difference seasoned rice makes. Maybe onigiri is not what they were going for but while there may be less filing, it's actually something you can eat with one hand and enjoy. These you have to be seated at a tablet to eat and you may need a fork to pick up the meat that has fallen out. It's not bad by any means, it's just that I've had better. read more

I love any restaurant that will serve me smaller portion sizes for lower prices, since most restaurants serve me two or three times what I can eat in one sitting and make me pay accordingly. It's so bad that most of the time my husband and I order one entree to split when we eat out so that we don't waste food or money, since neither of us particularly likes eating leftovers. At this place, one triangle with a side of edamame was fine to fill me up, maybe I'd order two if I'm feeling extra hungry next time. Tried the salmon triangle and it was perfect, husband got the "small" beef plate and it was still a ton of food (half of one of those square takeout boxes worth of rice and beef) so I helped him eat it. I think the "regular" would be enough to feed a family of four =/ I ate here when I was stopping in Albany to buy something from somebody off Craigslist, and it was such a good flavor and value that I found myself wishing I lived closer or had a local branch. I'd eat here at least once a week if I could. That's how good it is. read more

Very solid rice triangles! I have been meaning to eat here for over a year and I finally just went! It took so long since I'm in Albany Sunday mornings for Run Around Town Sunday and this place is not open that day :( during other days when I am in Albany I'm there after 8 and they're closed I'm a fan of sushi and have had the Berkeley Bowl variety before. Wanted to check out a more legit place and it didn't disappoint. Price was reasonable. We got 3 - short ribs, kimchi, and spicy tuna. I thought they were all good in their own ways... and the perk is when you buy 3 you get a tiny itty bitty container of edamame along with ginger. The food is good, staff is rude, and dirty inside. Neither me or my girlfriend was greeted when we walked in. The girl taking our order seemed like we were bothering her when we asked about the menu. The place was dirty especially for being so small. Visible dirty on the was and tables could of been wiped better. I would of only gave one star but the food made up for it a little. Was good and not to filling. Could of put more edamame on the plate. We literally only for about five beans on each plate. As for the triangle very good, don't know how soon I'll be returning. Eeeehhhh...$3-5 bucks for an onigiri seems pretty expensive, but they are pretty generous with the meats. I got: 1. Spicy pork (3.5/5) - this would've been really good but the rice was really mushy. 2. Grilled salmon (3/5) - also would've been good but too much sauce, didn't know it was going to have teriyaki sauce but it just dripped everywhere and was kind of messy. 3. Umeboshi (2/5) - ugh, I LOVE umeboshi onigiri but the plums tasted really off. Also, I think it would be better if the plums were mashed and stuffed into the rice instead of just sitting on top... May come back if I am desperate for onigiri but otherwise probably not. read more

Despite all my usual principles, today, I was that guy. I came in here ten minutes before closing like an asshole. (Don't be that guy.) I had too much gin and not enough food in my stomach. I walked around on Solano Ave for something to appease my craving. After walking in, I saw that they were closing up for the night and felt hesitant about ordering. The young woman at the register looked tired. I wasn't surprised; she probably had to deal with assholes like me all day. Still, she was very polite and told me that it'd be okay if I were only ordering rice triangles. She even asked me if I were eating them there or taking them to go. If I had been her, I would have forced me to take the to go and GTFO, no questions asked. I told her I'd take them to go. They came out within 5 minutes of ordering. I thanked her. She even wished me a nice day. I wouldn't have wished me a nice day. I would have told me to trip on a fucking rock and eat shit on my way out. I wanted to tip them a million dollars. Instead, I only had two dollars so I gave them that. The people who work here deserve a million dollars in tips. I hope to make that happen eventually. I was skeptical that a place devoted to rice triangles would be any good - my experience was that these suckers were just dry pockets filled with white rice. Oori's rice triangles were fresh, moist, warm, prettily presented, and had a good portion of rice to other goodness (choice of unagi, short ribs, chicken, salmon, tofu, kimchee, crab, pork, shrimp, tuna aioli, etc. for $3.50 and under a pop each). Of the two I ordered, I thought the chicken teriyaki was more flavorful than the salmon, which was just ok. I'd definitely return here for light eats or to pick up picnic food. read more

Best Onigiri ever! used to have it for lunch almost everyday for the last few weeks (3-5 days per week) and we even spread the news about this place among our friends but not anymore. Food: Really Tasty Service: Great service mind Owner (or some manager who act like one): Bad attitude (read below) I and my friend usually go in and used the student discount (require ID). There are no problem until today, my friend bought it for me for to go (total 6 Onigiri) and show the student ID. Cashier forgot to put in the discount and after she received an order, she asked about the student promotion. Cashier is very nice and apologize. My friend didn't mind and say it's ok but cashier insist to correct the order. After that the owner came in and ask what happen. Then he proceed to my friend and ask for an ID with really 'bad attitude'. "no more 4 pieces next time" he said. Well guess what, there wont be a next time. We wont coming back. I've had these rice triangles before at a off the grid event long time ago but wasn't too memorable. Then a friend of mine mentioned she went to Oori Rice Triangle in Albany and had nothing but good things to say so I'd figure i'll give this place a try. Ordered the teriyaki chicken and short rib triangles. Really liked the teriyaki chicken, great flavor and taste but wasn't too impressed with the short rib, didn't really interest me much. Next time, I'll try the unagi, spicy pork, tuna and salmon. These are great snacks if you don't want to fill up too much. This place also offers free hot tea and the prices for the oori rice triangles are very reasonable. read more

Very disappointed! I am vegan and was fed pork! Took a bite and realized the mistake THEY made. No apology from counter staff, even though I was nice. They replaced the pork with the tofu I had ordered - on the ORIGINAL rice triangle! Which I didn't notice until after I ate most of the triangle and encountered a remaining bit of pork. Restaurants need to be careful what they serve. Allergic reactions can kill. Religious based diet choices are significant. While I am neither of those, my values are important to me. I wanted to like this place but will not feel confident enough to eat there again. read more

I've always passed by this place going to do my laundry up the street. Yesterday, I decided to give it a try. It is a small place. I went with 2 beef and 1 chicken. The triangles are seaweed wrapped with rice and what filling you choose. I believe each wrap is closely priced, but different. I think beef was $3 something and chicken was $2 something. Pretty similar to the Family Mart or 711 onigiri I ate for breakfast while in Tokyo. I got to try the tuna and chicken ones when they were at the Yelp Halloween event. They are a pretty decent size for the price. The rice is most important part and they got it mostly right. It's flavored enough to be good on its own and is cooked okay (not too squishy). I liked the tuna, mostly because it reminded me of the tuna-mayo ones in Tokyo, but it was strongly fishy smelling. The chicken one was alright. I liked that the chicken pieces were kind of grilled-looking and seasoned well, but the small pieces kept tumbling out onto my shirt (luckily my dog was there to eat the crumbs). read more

Besides the grumpy short haired lady (owner?) the employees here are pleasant and service is rather fast. I would love for them to add a bit more variety. Maybe some greens to go with the rice plates, wakame salad, mushroom side etc. Some more veggie options please! Really 3.5 stars. Tried this place out using a Groupon deal! I enjoyed it the first time better than the second. The first time I got the double eel, salmon, and tuna with regular white rice. The second time I got the shrimp, salmon, and crab with brown rice. I didn't care for the brown rice--it seemed a bit mushy and the Nori wasn't very crisp. Also the crab and shrimp was just so so. This place basically serves gourmet onigiris. But gourmet in food and not in price! I tried the tuna and salmon one and stole a piece of the beef from my boyfriend. They all tasted amazing!! The rice to protein ratio here is amazing. They make it so nice and it smells so delicious whether you eat them warm or cold. On top of everything, the best thing is the pricing. Each is priced around $2 to $3 which is just a little more than the ones you find premade at a Japanese market. And they cook it here for you!!! Order 3 or more and you get a free side of edamame and ginger. I ended up ordering 7 and spent around $23.
