Juhyeon was wonderful! The sushi rolls were small /as should be, and delicious. I recently the salmon and yellowtail. Only 7$ each Great vibes and the design of the place is so cute !!

Had no clue this spot even existed. Amazing spot. Great quality and fresh fish. It's a hidden spot in ktown so most won't know but it's located in the Aroma Spa bldg. Chill laid back atmosphere and attentive staff. They also have great highballs.

loved the vibes and ambiance here! checks all the boxes off for a lowkey place you'd find in a random alley in Japan. music is on the louder end tho. - Fried Chicken Gizzards ($11.50): YUM. def one of the better ones I've had. So crispy and tasty - and with the mayo, delicious. We liked it so much, we got another order for us to share with our party of 5. - White Seafood Soup ($28.50): shareable between 4, with 1-2 bowls per person. So filling, simple, clean tasting, and hearty! I think I would add noodles next time tho. Comes with 2-3 sizeable shrimps, small mussels, clams, etc. - Chicken Skin ($4.50): pretty good, but prob wouldn't get again for the price. - Salmon Roll ($7.50): small portion for the price. rice seemed to be marinaded and was unique and tasty. - Chicken Karaage ($11.50): decent. Also got suntory beers at $10.50 each. Came on a Friday night around 10 and there were only 2 or 3 other tables besides us. Service was quick and friendly - it's convenient for there to be a call button at each table. At this time, it was easy to find street parking - but they also have a parking lot that's like $10ish? Depending on how long you stay, I believe. Overall, this place is on the pricier end, but for the vibes and good food, I would come back.

Very empty on a Friday night at around 10PM! I like how clean it is and how they have a bunch of random sake labels on the wall. Otherwise, the food is below mediocre. Had 3 types of skewers - pork jowl - under seasoned and oily, chicken thigh - also under seasoned and overcooked. The eel was the highlight! Also had pork tender katsu- this was the opposite of tender as it was overly dry.. maybe this is why it's so empty. They'll need to up their food game before I come back again.

    Ala Carte sushi. Very good!

I love going here for dinner when I have a concert to attend at the Wiltern Theater, just 2 blocks away. Friendly service, great atmosphere (cool old school Izakaya furnishings and retro jazz music) and great food. Highly recommended!

I love the vibe of this place feels very hidden and authentic. The sushi is incredible. The fried chicken thighs are incredible. And the beer is so good. The glasses are extra cold and a cold beer on a hot day. There is fantastic.

Pre-concert meal before a show at the Wiltern. With validation from this restaurant, you can park in their lot u til 2am for $3. As for the restaurant, we had a nice meal after getting to know the place. This is old school Japanese. The staff and clientele are all Japanese which, on the one hand makes things very authentic but you also have to realize that this is far from an American sushi joint. No substitutions and, if you don't see it on the menu, don't ask. They have a full on udon soup with shrimp tempura but you can't get a cup of miso soup. They have sushi rice but not a simple bowl of hot steamed rice. My pork belly skewer and mushroom skewers were delicious, as was the udon soup. The yellowtail sushi (1 pc per order) was also wonderful. My buddies enjoyed their meal as well.

This is my hidden Izakaya place in ktown. Love the pan roasted abalone with butter and I always order it when I come. This is a rare place with high ball also. The restaurant is under ground so it's not easy to find. The atmosphere here is awesome and we enjoyed dinning in there.

Cool indoor-outdoor restaurant located beneath the street level - for an underground vibe. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Came in before a concert at the Wiltern and wanted a small meal before hand. Food items were very good but a bit on the pricy side - could be because of the area.

Atmosphere goes crazy, the restaurant is located downstairs and the vibe is great for dates. Came here for a date, food was great with selection of sushi and their uni is excellent. Loved their food selection and soup. Must order are their selected sushi menu! Parking can be validated in the plaza for only 3 dollars! Service is great too!

You know a place is good if they're popping on a Tuesday! I think this has become one of my top 3 places for very good quality sushi in ktown. I'm personally not a fan of Korean owned sushi places that much because I think they generally do a bad job with the sushi rice since they focus so much on rolls, but this place does it right. Pair that with their Yuzu Highball at the sushi bar and you're going to have a perfect and simple dinner! I also got their sashimi and skewers to try and they were excellent. (I just prefer sushi over sashimi.) I have to give credit to the sushi chef. It was a busy night, and watching him work at the sushi bar by himself was so impressive. Not only was he fast, he was consistent in quality, and his customer service was top notch, despite how busy he was. This place is a hidden gem (literally) as you have to go down an unexpected flight of stairs to this cute entrance (stairs are at the corner of Wilshire & Serrano). The vibes are chill with dim lighting and a little more light at the sushi bar. Great for both a casual night or a date.

This place is a trek to get to, there's no elevator and only way down is a winding staircase. But, once you're in, the food is really special. The service is awesome and food is prepared very fast. The restaurant is really small and cozy with little rooms that really bring out the izakaya vibes. Just expect it to be very loud as you're siting quite close to others who are most likely there to drink!

The shrimp and cauliflower tempura basically taste the same (sweet and sour). Def disappointed at this bc we expected the typical tempura without being soaked in the red sauce. Agedashi tofu was also just ok. It was kinda soggy even though we ate it immediately. The wasabi is good though and parking is $8 in the personal lot (more expensive bc we paid with card). Even if don't like seabass, you must try this one! it's buttery, perfectly charred and melts in your mouth. The prime beef is equally impressive: tender, packed with rich umami flavor, and cooked to perfection. For a larger dish, you can't go wrong with either the sea bass or blue crab hot pot. It's so rich and comforting, the fish is always perfectly cooked, and it's more than enough food for two people. Be sure to order a side of seaweed and make your own hand rolls at the table. The kabocha salad is also unexpectedly delicious and pairs well with the other indulgent items in this order. Had already left when we noticed it. Also told us cake fee was $10, but ended up charging us $20. Food-wise, very hit or miss. The unadon, hamburger steak, and curry udon were all really good, but the yakitori skewers tended to be disappointing. The Tsukune was dry, the Negima was quite bland. The Miso Black Cod was also quite overdone, became quite rubbery when served and also was cold. Overall, I would not come back again, or recommend it. The menu now leans much more toward fine dining, and the prices definitely reflect that. As someone who's more of a casual diner and really enjoyed the previous menu, this new direction just wasn't for me. The staff were very kind and took the time to explain all the changes, which I appreciated. However, we ordered about six dishes and were surprised at how small the portions were. On top of that, most of the items were unfortunately pretty bland. Sadly, I won't be returning, and I really miss the old menu.

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

It's quite small inside and they happen to have a few tables outside. I have mixed feelings about the service though but it is what it is, just feel like we weren't attended properly and service was slower. The menu has tons of options, there is something for everyone. Unfortunately the rice balls I wanted to try were sold out for the night- which how do you run out of something popular at a 7 PM dinner? Anyway, we had the fried tempura, garlic fried rice, short ribs, and chicken oysters. Everything was delicious and I would get these dishes again. But my standouts were the short ribs, they were tender and the marinade was light and fresh. The fried tempura was another standout for me because the sauce paired so well with the lightly friend asparagus. And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi. It's so hard to pick, everything tasted amazing and you can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and well crafted with a beautiful presentation. I really enjoyed the food here and will be back to try more items.
