I was in the mood for some Greek food when I was in the area for shopping. Hubby and I decided to give this place a try based on yelp reviews and the yelp feature that ranks each restaurant for cleanliness and health violations. This place got high scores which is always a plus in my world. Warmly greeted upon entry. It's a BYOB, so we brought some beer (which saved us some cash). We started with the Opa appetizer platter which was a combo of four dips, (hummus, tzatziki, and two types of feta cheese dips-spinach and spicy pepper) served with warm and soft pita bread. Delicious! We followed with an order of stuffed grape leaves that were fresh, lemony, and nicely warmed, we shared plate of the spicy marinated chicken and rice with a Cesaer salad. Oddly, the meal came with a side of fries. Not sure why, certainly not necessary and didn't compliment the Greek flavors at all. Food was very good and plentiful, even after sharing the plate we took a box to go. I'll go back again To try other dishes on the menu. The service was excellent. The restaurant was rather chilly for my liking. The place was in need of updated decor inside and outside. The TV wasn't functional (or maybe just not turned on) nor was the electric fireplace on the wall and there was no music. Atmosphere a little lacking. Food and service deserve an A. This review is more about this restaurants overall way of doing business, because their food is very good, but I left the restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). First of all, its almost 2019 and this restaurant has NO WEBSITE. Really? I asked the server why and she said its being "redone". I read another review where somebody mentioned being charged for "extras" and that's exactly what I experienced. The server (young... owners daughter?) upsells you WITHOUT telling you that the item costs extra. If you don't like being upcharged, be sure to ask how much things are. Personally, I'm fine with paying extra for something, just give me the courtesy of telling me that there is a charge. Also, they charge a $5.00 corkage fee. Yes... $5.00. When I inquired about it, I was told that it was for the glass usage. Ugh. I probably would have left the bottle in the car had I known the charge was that much upfront (that's where a website to notify your customers of this charge is helpful). The food I had was quite good, albeit served a bit too quickly, I had to ask the server to hold the entree up so we could eat our appetizer and salad which came out practically together. This restaurant does have potential - it could be so much busier if they stopped "nickel and diming" their guests, launched a website, and perhaps trained their server on etiquette. Found this place on Yelp after a golf round in the area. The place lived up to all the hype of the reviews. Opa Vera was awesome. Had the pan seared calamari and I thought they would've served it with some charred marks with a side of lemon to squeeze. It was basically just calamari in butter with lemon. It was delicious and the calamari was great even without the sauce (I tried to eat it as dry as possible). Not the most healthy option and not what I envisioned but I can't hold that against them because I was unclear about what I ordered. All I can do is judge on taste and it was great. I had the gyro and it was awesome. Big, plenty of meat stuffed to the brim and everything tasted fresh. Service was from a girl who was probably in high school. I heard her call into the kitchen for "dad." There were times we were looking around for her. First, to order and then second for a coffee refill. She also didn't ask if we wanted more coffee or water when she brought our food which should be standard at most places. She's young and nice, though, and I could tell she was trying so I didn't want to hold that against them. The best part was knowing that it was a family owned business and a real Greek restaurant. Two of us split it and still didnt finish. Fresh veggies, tangy tzatziki, and the best part--the flavorful and moist gyro meat. Fried calamari. Another fat square styrofoam, this one packed with crispy calamari. 2 big twists of lemon to squeeze over everything and a nice, piping hot marinara sauce. Delicious! Greek salad. Yet another heavy, full container, this with everything you want in a Greek salad...romaine, tomato, kalamatas, red onion, feta, pepperoncinis, and a fantastic garlic dressing to top it off. Falafel and veggie gyro. We only tried a bite of this because we were so full, but it was tasty also. A 4th container stuffed to the brim! We will easily get 3 meals out of this takeout. This was our first visit there and we were unaware that there was a good Greek restaurant in the area but after a quick search we found Opa Vera and what a great find! We ordered the Gyro platter, falafel and hummus platters. The food came out in the expected time and waitress was very pleasant and gave us great service. The food was the real deal not the fast Greek diner food you get at most places. The owners take the time to get it right and work hard to make sure they please their customers and this is so evident in the quality of their food. I've been here 3 times and each time the food was very good. I really love the hummus with pita and the lemon chicken soup! Everything I've had so far as been good. There is one very friendly waitress who is very helpful and always is quick to refill drinks/ask if she can get us anything. She makes the experience just that much better! I'm not super adventurous with my Greek food and usually go for the gyros since I know they're awesome here. My family has all different preferences for their gyro toppings and they always get it accurate. Tried the gyro platter last night and it was also excellent. Included gyro meat, rice, warm pita, fries, and Caesar salad. I subbed the garlic sauce included for tzaiki. Pita slices were packaged separately so they didn't get soggy. Only complaint was that fries were wayyyy too soggy/greasy. If they'd been crispy, I'd give a 5/5 since the seasoning was awesome. Also wish there had been a bit more gyro meat. We have been enjoying GOOD GREEK FOOD here for the past year or two. The food is consistently delicious, fresh, hot and flavorful! Tonight I ordered the spicy chicken dinner and I think it is my new favorite - the shrimp Mykonos was at the top of my list - but now I have a new favorite! My husband was not feeling well so I brought a large Avgolemono home for him. I think he thought he had won the lottery! Only negative is that my one daughter is home from college and she saw the container in the refrigerator and was very upset that we had not taken her - - so I guess we will have to go back!! Delicious! We had the falafel and hummus appetizer (the falafel is gf), I ordered the chicken Argos platter (gf) and my boyfriend ordered a chicken gyro. Everything was great! My meal was more than enough for two people to share or to take home for plenty of leftovers. It came with a soup or salad and a side dish. The grape leaves were perfect! My family went there last night for the 1st time ( we had take out once before, which was excellent as well ) so I was expecting dine in to be as good - it was even better. Not crowded at all, but they just opened so I REALLY hope business picks up so they stick around. Food is excellent, service was excellent, what else can you ask for in Pottstown, LOL...
