I got Greek salad for take out and baklava couple weeks ago. I met the owner and we chatted for few minutes. What a friendly personality. You would think you knew the guy for years. This place is a gem! My mom and I stopped in because she wanted to try saganaki, which is basically flaming cheese. I had hummus and pita, and she had a gyro. Our cheese was delicious! You wouldn't know how excellent the food is from looking at the place, but it really is. The service was also great, and it was inexpensive. Wonderful spot! read more

My husband and I had a late lunch here yesterday. We were warmly greeted by the the owner and service was excellent. We only discovered this hidden gem on Tuesday, 11/10/15, thanks to its insert in our "marriage mail." While the menu includes many Italian and American items, we went for the Greek cuisine. We both ordered the Gyro platter. The meat was very tender. The rice and salad were excellent. The pita was the best we ever had. The only disappointment was the fresh cuts (fried potatoes). They were limp, oily and bland (due to the absence of seasoning). It was a delight to find a place with good Greek food. We will be back. I just hope they make it. The restaurant has inconspicuous signage and is located in an area which is not heavily travelled. read more

We just had a fabulous Greek dinner at Opa Vera's. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had the best spinach salad we have ever had. The garlic sauce was amazing as was the hummus. The owner and server were delightful which made the experience even better. If you live anywhere near, it will be worth the trip. Its 3 stars on food, good, we've been here a few times. Hummus, grape leaves and falafel are THE things to get. The extra star is because they are incredibly nice and supporting a local establishment where the owner and family are kind to everyone that walks in is important. There aren't enough words in the English language to express how enjoyable my first experience was at Opa Vera. The staff is incredibly friendly. When I thanked the chef for accommodating my take-out order so close to closing time, he said, "This is your house. We take care of you." The food - WOW. Fresh and delicious. I have been waiting to try out Opa Vera and finally made it over for a saturday lunch. The lunch crowd had already cleared out and so I had the restaurant to myself. The menu is 75% greek and 25% of american casual (cheesesteak, pizza, etc). I went with the gyro platter. I got two full meals out of my $15 meal. The fries were not appeasing but everyone has different preferences for fries. The rest of the meal was fantastic. A huge helping of greek salad. Lots of gyro meat. Big pile of rice pilaf. And 6 pieces of tasty pita bread. I highly recommend you visit if you are in the pottstown area. The prices are great and the staff was very friendly. read more

I grew up poor, and I don't believe in wasting food. Nonetheless, the horrendous grape leaves in the slimy, congealed...I'll just be crude and say it...semen looking fluid...were not taken in our to go box. And they made up a $16 platter that consisted of not more than a tiny ramekin of white stuff that tasted like ranch ("garlic sauce"), a ramekin of bland hummus, and a ramekin of not quite as bad "house dip". Your choice was the "Greek" salad or a Caesar salad (with bacon?) That took up most of the plate. A small plate of grocery store pita, 4 bullet-like falafel, and a small serving of bland rice were the only accompaniments. The spanikopita was stiff as a rock, incredibly dry, and inexplicably served with canned parmasen and tomato sauce. I heard the microwave in use liberally while we were here, so likely it was nuked to death. I won't badmouth the horiatiki for having bad tomatoes because tomatoes are out of season but the dressing was bland and the quality of feta poor. We got baklava and they asked as if we wanted whipped cream with it. Despite my horrified, "No!" It unfortunately came with a topping of powdered sugar. I wish people would get over the "top with powdered sugar to make it look pretty" thing. It is horribly sweet and does nothing for your dish if you have a decent food to serve. read more

Brought my family in for lunch on Saturday after my son's first reconciliation. The staff was accommodating for our large party. Our waitress was pleasant, super patient and very friendly. The food was amazing, and plentiful. Opa Veras is BYOB, they uncorked our wine and supplied glasses for $5.00. I honestly cannot say enough good things. There were 5 in our party . 4 adults and a child. Everyone received attention. The wait was short for our drinks. The iced tea tasted home made, not flat or stale. We got a salad to start, it was large enough for several to share. The chicken lemon soup was light, with a hint of lemon and plenty of chicken. 3 of us got gyros - which needed 2 hands to hold! One of us ordered a small pizza, which was as big as a medium pizza. The service was excellent. The portions, huge. The baklava....incredible. Read the positive reviews and can't believe no one complained about all of their additional charges. The quiet-hard-to-understand waitress never told us anything was an extra charge. She asked if we wanted extra pita bread twice..it was an extra $2.00 charge on our bill. So was the honey mustard, an extra .50 cents. Lastly extra tzatziki was an extra .75 cents. This was a big disappointment. Some of the items were excellent. The pita with assorted dips. Spicy red pepper feta was a revaluation. The spinach pie was excellent. But some things were very sad. Calamari was a fried jumble the falafel was really hard and the lamb chops were meh. The service was nice but the decor was out of style in 1978. Although very quiet for a weekend (there was only one other table occupied) we were impressed by the food. It felt like a slightly higher end Greek diner -- pizza, sandwiches, and the typical variety of Greek platters -- spanikopita, gyros, and slouvaki. Fantastic gyros! I have tried three so far. Portion sizes are huge. The flavors and sauces are sharp (especially the spicy feta). Reasonably priced, very friendly owner and daughter. I would nix serving pizza and stick to Greek but it is delicious. read more
