Soooooo...I mean, I do like my glasses. They were not horribly expensive and they were done well. However... I was told after I paid for my glasses that they would be ready in one and a half weeks. Okay, great. One and a half weeks goes by. I call them to asknif my glasses are ready. The woman who answers asks "what is your tray number?". I assume it's a number on my receipt, but I did not have it handy. I ask her if she can look it up by my phone number or last name. Her answer? "NO". How is this even a thing in this day and age that they have no record of my glasses other than on a flimsy piece of paper? Okay, so I hang up, did around in my purse, find the receipt and call back. I give the person my tray number and then I am told "no its two and a half weeks for your glasses". Wth? Why so long??? Anyway, I wander around blindly for another week. I arrive at the location. I get my glasses. I put them on. Now, this was a totally new script for me. So when I put them on, everything did seem a bit blurry. Now this is where my major complaint is derived from. I say to the woman "these seem a little blurry" Her response? None. She just kind of looked away in another direction as if she had no intention of providing any further assistance and couldn't be bothered. I took my glasses and left. Will not go back. read more

I've been coming here for 11 years. Before everything was fine and they weren't stealing from people. I went and got a new pair of glasses and eye exam. I asked for blue ray not UV on my glasses. After my glasses came back from the lab they added both blue ray and uv. After I got my glasses I told them I never asked for the transition. They didn't want to refund me for their mistake and then has the nerve to tell me that they gave me 30% off my glasses when I first purchased. So you're telling me glasses cost $1000 in your store for an eye exam and blue ray? They literally said they couldn't give me my refund because they had to pay the lab to fix my lenses again... what does that have to do with me? You guys literally lost me as a loyal customer. I will NOT be coming back to greedy people ever again. read more

I only came in for an eye exam so this review doesn't pertain to actually buying glasses from this place. I just have to say that my optometrist, Dr. Chatman, was the nicest, most amazingly pleasant person I have ever met. He was so courteous in his interactions with me and also very considerate of my time. He explained everything I wanted to know about the eye exam, and he did so with a level of engagement and enthusiasm that demonstrated he was still passionate about his profession even after many years of practice. The experience was so nice that it just made my month. read more

I had called to inquire if they would be able to put prescription lenses in frames I already have (Wasn't interested in paying hundreds of dollars for frames). The woman I spoke with said they do but something in her voice sounded sketchy. So when I come into the store to Uniate the process, I handed the woman my insurance card and my prescription for the lenses. She began to fill out the paperwork. When I handed her the frames...it went downhill. She proceeded to tell me I needed polycarbonate lenses which would be $200 under my insurance. I asked why I needed those lenses but she couldn't even provide me with a straight answer. When I tell her that I've never paid out of pocket for lenses...just frames, she began to have a conversation with her co worker in Spanish (I do not speak Spanish). She then came back to say the same thing about the lenses. When I kindly asked for my frames and prescription back, she said I should purchase one of there frames in store. I said I wasn't interested. They're just trying to get all the money possible b/c I'm sure the reimbursement from the insurance company wouldn't be much. Very unprofessional!! read more

I've been coming to this same optical for about 15 years. Sure, sometimes I go elsewhere, but I'm never satisfied anywhere else. The women remember your name, they're honest about what looks good on you. I was in love with these glasses but they didn't look good on me, but I didn't see it. The woman behind the counter really told me "no" and took the glasses back and came back with frames that were similar but suited my face more. I love glasses. I love this place. You get a discount if you're an employee of NYP or Columbia. read more

Had a really great experience here. Went in for a contact lens exam and fitting. I was able to do a walk-in on a Friday afternoon. I don't have vision insurance, so I was glad they offered a flat rate for contact exam, even with astigmatism for $99. Dr. Solanky was super nice and professional and gave me a new pair of contacts and some solution to get started. In and out in no time, they gave me my Rx with no pressure to buy anything else there. I've been a customer for years. I got my first pair of glasses here and Hanoi has been a doll for years, and so kind. But, today the first time I don't see her here it was the worst experience I have event been through. I called Friday asking if they had an appointment for today Saturday. The young lady said unfortunately no but would check her appointment list, magically a 2:00pm slot opened up. I run late today called asked if they will still take me the lady on the phone says yes to still come in, I show up, walk in with 2 other people she skips me over attends to one of the two gentlemen and tells me to wait and after she is done with him does not even acknowledge me and proceeds to have a conversation. The other young lady there also does not look my way and attends to the other person there. I ask another girl behind the counter I have an appointment that I understand I was late for, do I need to sign in. She asked the first girl that ignored me about me and she asks me if I'm being taken care, I responded no you looked over me and took him. This girl asks for my name to check her appointment book and to my surprise my name was never written down and the Optometrists went on to take another person who obviously was on time. The girl let's the other know I'm not there and she says it's fine to write me down next, knowing there are others before me without telling me what time I'll be seen. I asked for Hanoi who only works weekdays & just proceeded to walk out. This experience left a sour taste in my mouth and sadly looks like I would have to take my business elsewhere. Sucks to know that they're willing to lose a self paying customer, who not only pays for the exam, brand glasses and contacts at that. Management definitely downgraded on the amazing team they once had. read more

I have used Optica Express for my son's glasses since moving to Washington Heights over two years ago. In the past when my son has broken his glasses and could not be repaired I could get a replacement for a cost of 40 dollars. These are usually the frames used for persons with medicaid, medicare, etc. When it came time for him to need another replacement, I visited the store expecting to get another replacement for 40 dollars (maybe a little more). However, I was informed that for his frames it would be 100! I was absolutely disgusted and walked out of the store. My son has worn glasses since the age of 3 and I have NEVER NEVER EVER paid over 40 dollars for a replacement, and I have been used all the well known stores (Cohen's ,Fulton Eyes, etc.) Please don't waste your time buying anything from them. Certain types of people have to pay more than others (if you know what I mean) read more

I went into this store and I saw a pair of men's frames, that I was interested in purchasing. The sales representative, whom later said, she was the store Manager, gave me a price quote of $549.00. When I asked for the order number, for that item, she told me, she couldn't give out that information, so, I asked if I could photo this item, she said NO. I knew then, she was either charging me more for what it's worth, or she doesn't like "African Americans" in her store. End of Story..... read more

About a week ago, I went into this store to pick up my contacts. It was a bad day for me because I had lost my $450 glasses that I recently purchased from this store on the train. I was already in a bad mood upon walking in and when I found out that they didn't have solution for my contacts, I was furious. It wasn't the first time and it's an optical! The reason I give them 5 stars though is because after I made a complaint, I received a call from the owner of the store. It was a week ago so I can't remember her name but she immediately apologized over and over again. She seemed genuine and handled the situation right away! She not only gave me 3 bottles of solution but also a pair of free contacts! I have been a loyal customer to this business ever since I was in middle school and I am now 26 years old. Customer service is everything to me and the ladies in the store are extremely professional so although I'll be moving soon, this place has my loyalty! I do want to apologize for my attitude that day and realize now that this location does not charge people for the solution and so when something is free you can expect low inventory. I've been looking for a new Optometrist forever and a day now & I saw that Optica Express was highly rated & just 10 minutes away from where I live. I was happy to learn they accepted walk-in's; & I was seen less than 5 minutes after checking in, which was surprising, because they were a bit busy. The Optometrist was so kind and most importantly, she was extremely thorough! The Dr. asked me detailed questions about my history, tested my old frames, checked for glaucoma as well as, the overall health of my eye. After my exam, the Dr. took her time writing very detailed notes for my file. I was impressed by their level of professionalism, as well as, the organization of their establishment. I'm a teacher and today en route to a trip with my students my glasses broke on the bus. I'm extremely myopic and without my glasses I would not be able to see a thing. While trying to find an optical store my phone died..double whammy! One of the other teachers in the bus finished doing the research for me and the closest optical store that we found was Optica Express. They continued on and I blindly made my way to the store. I was immediately greeted by Hanoi Borjas, the store manager and I explained my dilemma. She looked at my glasses, saw that they were beyond repair and quickly came up with a solution -- an inexpensive frame similar to mine and they would just use my lenses. She also plugged my phone in and charged it while I was waiting. I was so relieved that I almost did a pirouette in the store. Their store is beautifully laid out and since I live in Brooklyn and teach in Queens the odds of me ever visiting the store prior to this experience would be slim to none. Thank you, thank you, thank you for rescuing me today and I know that with customer service like you showed me today Optica Express will be around for a very long time especially with an employee like Hanoi Borjas. This place sucks!!!!! They are lazy and give you the wrong info. Customers beware!! Just took a cab to the office because they said they had my color contacts in stock, no prescription. After asking what time they closed I rushed there only to be told they didn't have them and the doctor was gone for the day anyway. The employees and management have wasted my time and money (I took a cab so I'd get there before closing.) Buyer beware. Go to lens lab on 181 for color contacts. No lies just lenses. read more

I Went to this optical for the first time last week to fill a prescription. I felt very aggravated at the fact that I saw 4 employees in this store and only two working. There were two of them which were taking care of more than one person and, two of them just talking in the back. I say aggravating because it is very bad to acknowledge your patients and instead of taking care of them, just stay talking in the corner. I came here recommended by a friend of mine, but it was too much and just decided to leave. read more
