The actual internet service at my home has been okay so far, but everything else about dealing with Optimum has been a nightmare. Their customer service is extremely frustrating. It's nearly impossible to get someone on the phone who can actually solve a problem, and when you do, the experience is usually rude, unhelpful, or full of conflicting information. Trying to get an issue resolved feels like being sent in circles. I've been told different things by different representatives, and some of the information I was given turned out to be completely inaccurate. On top of that, communication can be very difficult because many of the customer service agents are hard to understand, which makes resolving anything take even longer. Overall, the lack of professionalism and poor customer support makes this service not worth the hassle. Even though the internet itself works fine, dealing with the company is exhausting. I would strongly recommend looking at other providers before choosing Optimum. read more

I work from home and they've costed me a lot of freaking money with how often my wifi goes out. Always randomly upping my bill. I found out Opt was charging me $130 per month for internet service. I called to complain and to get a better deal but the customer service rep refused to do anything. I then called Spectrum and they offered $50 per month. After I received the new equipment from Spectrum I called to cancel the service with Opt. It took 45 minutes talking to 3 different reps, and they each started offering me better prices. I declined but they continued to sell me. Everything works until you need help, then they don't cancel your service even after you ask, charge you for service on a device you're unable to activate, and refuse to refund because their "policy" says so. You have to stay on hold for like 20+ minutes so they can come back and offer you one month, no 2 months free, plus a bunch of other attempts to incentivize keeping you on. I went to cancel my internet service because I never received the $200 promotional gift card for signing up and there are also always outages. The representative said he was going to get me the $200, but it never happened. There was some charge that they were going to credit me if I stayed on for three more months. Then went I went back to cancel the next month because of the false promises on the gift card. The other representative then tacked on a larger charge and revoked the credit. I've had a horrible experience with Optimum. My internet went down on Sept 4 and I reported it the next day. A technician finally came on Sept 7, swapped the modem, and left without confirming it worked. When I called him back, he said he had four other jobs and my address was 40 minutes away from his next one, so he couldn't stay. I'm now stuck waiting until Sept 9 for another technician -- almost a full week without service. Optimum should not put productivity over people, whether customers or employees. Do not, I repeat, do not use Optimum as your internet provider. That is unless you want to be held hostage as a customer. I am currently on the phone with them for the third time over a span of several months trying to cancel. My current phone call is 26 minutes and counting. You will be put on hold minimum of 3 times and told to call multiple different phone numbers. I canceled for the second time on Wednesday. I dropped off my equipment today. Lady there said it was still active and was NOT in fact disconnected. Even though the man I spoke with on Wednesday went through all the hoops and "canceled" everything. She gave me a "more direct line" to call (again) and cancel. The number is 888-778-8072 #1. Once I got through after waiting the lady began trying to ask me the same questions to change my mind about disconnecting. I explained I have already disconnected and was told it wasn't. That I have bundled with my cell phone carrier and do not need two internet providers. I've been put on hold twice after that. These people are incredibly ridiculous. I have done everything required of me to disconnect my service and they are purposely acting in a difficult manner to avoid canceling. Horrible company. If they were the only option on the planet for internet service I still wouldn't use them as a provider. Linette just let me know that I will receive a confirmation email stating my service has been disconnected in 24-48 hours. As previously stated- do not give them your money. I have been trying to cancel my account and retrieve my phone number for two days with NO success. I keep getting put on hold.

This is the worst company in existence, the fact that they monopolize Pflugerville is absurd. If you do basic video streaming and browsing then you won't find an issue with their internet. For gaming it's the worst, constant router reboots, and once you start running test lots of times you don't get had the speeds your paying for. You get constant packet loss which can create latency and can create buffers when loading an app, watching a movie, and lag/delay in gaming. I've gotten all my cables replaced and the issue hasn't been fixed so I'm aware that the problems I have are on my end. The technician that's been out to my street multiple times to "fix" the internet said our street has so many issues and they choose to do nothing about it. From what I know is that everyone that has optimum, even from multiple streets away share the same line that's on my street. The technicians have brought it up to their superiors and they haven't done anything about it. Optimum has the worst customer service. Let me explain... We set up an appointment for our internet to be set up at a new house and were told we would be called when the guy was on his way or at the house so we could leave work to meet him there. We got no call. Appointment was missed because we couldn't get there. It took 12 calls to get back on the phone with customer service to get a new appointment. Because we had to postpone it, we had to work from our old house with that internet until the new appointment (3 days later) Come to find out on Monday our internet was turned off. We called customer service and were told WHEN YOU REQUEST A NEW SERVICE BE INSTALLED THE OLD ONE IMMEDIATELY GETS TURNED OFF so if you make an appointment a week ahead, the day you request it your internet gets turned off, and you go a week with no internet in either house. They told us multiple times even with speaking to a supervisor that the only option to get internet in the in between was to cancel the upcoming appointment. Makes zero sense. And we even pain for the whole month of internet at the current house already. So basically make sure you don't need internet in the time between making an appointment and when the appointment occurs. read more

After they hiked up the rate when the 2 year contract expired, I attempted to terminate service through online chat and they refused. Called the number that the chat rep provided and was disconnected after waiting on hold for nearly 30 min for each of 2 subsequent calls to no avail. Booked an appointment to return equipment and disconnect the next day in the store. There was a line of 8 customers waiting for the store to open at 10am (my booked time slot) and I was the only one who had booked an appointment yet there was no sign in process and was forced to wait rendering the appointment useless. After waiting roughly 30 min to be seen, they initially refused to cancel my service in the store. I asked to see the manager and he claimed to be the manager (Ari was his name). I explained that calling over the phone was a failure and demanded that he make the necessary calls to ensure I would not be disconnected and he refused again. This turned into a shouting match and he threatened to call the police to have me removed for trespassing. That's when I began to call 911 to report them as theft and file a police report. At this point another employee took over when Ari retreated from the lobby and the new employee was able to make the necessary call and get my service deactivated so he could accept the return of my equipment. This process took an additional 45 min to complete. The employee explained to the rep over the phone what was happening and it was absolute insanity. The level of high pressure sales to prevent me from terminating service was absurd. Meanwhile, I saw nothing but a trickle of customers who were in the exact same position as me attempting to return equipment but were turned away and forced to keep their service. I am simply awestruck that this business practice is remotely legal in any shape or form. read more

We signed up because of the incentive gift card. We decided to switch to AT&T because the service was not great both talking to people and internet at the house. We would randomly have outages. It would be out until I got on the chat and told them there was an outage. Sometimes, it would be fixed right after, other times it would take a while. No report or anything. The outage map never said there was an outage and when I called, they could not give an eta. One time I called and they said 24-48 hours which is a joke. We decided to switch because of the outages but I wanted to try and get my incentive before service was cut off. With no missed or late payments. The guy said I would not be getting the incentive with no explanation as to why. Don't use optimum unless it is your only option. read more

So I just switched my Altice 1 system over to their Stream system boxes. Nice, sleak, compact. Just one major issue so far... the new remotes that go with the Stream box do not light up! They do not have any other remotes that are compatible and they say that universal remotes are not compatible either. I didn't get anywhere anytime I called half the time they didn't even know who I was after giving them my address, my phone number and my name! After my year was up, I moved and canceled my service. Returned my equipment, and now they have Said I still owe for my equipment, which I have a receipt where I returned it! They have turned me into collections after I've called four times to verify that they did received my equipment. They said they have and they were clearing out my balance all to find out that now they've turned me into collections and it's on my credit! UPDATE 2: Optimum failed to provided the advertised 1Gbps (fine print says 960Mbps) service for the ENTIRETY of our time with them. Now that I'm moving out, they're charging me an entire month because I canceled 1 day outside of the billing period. Literally every other ISP will prorate it. Never use this company. UPDATE: They missed the SECOND SERVICE VISIT! And now they're not scheduled to come out until TUESDAY! We've been without service for two days! We haven't been able to leave the house for the last two days because someone is required to be here for the service to avoid being charged $80. So now we have to sit at home yet another day. I have never had a worse experience with an ISP in my entire life. Original Review: I've had zero service for two days, the tech that was scheduled for yesterday was apparently the wrong tech for the job, so they rescheduled it for today. The window is 10AM to 8PM, and it's 8:02 at the time of writing and they're nowhere to be found. I would be shocked if they actually came out at all today either. I also have an ongoing complaint with the FCC about their failure to deliver the 1Gbps speeds they advertise. More often than not, we get slower speeds than the next tier down. Support claims it's "up to", so I suppose as long as it's above zero, they think it's fine. The tech that came out about that issue told me it would be impossible for Optimum to reach those speeds on copper lines, so this is probably par for the course in this area. read more

This is for the physical store. I just came out (2/9, 1:50). I walked in and no one was there but 2 female employees, slouched on the counters, on their phones. No greeting, nothing. They just looked at each other like, are you getting up or am I?? Sam was the unlucky one who had to be bothered. I was there to disconnect my service because I couldn't do it on the phone or online due to lack of helpful customer service. She said nothing, took my modem, scanned it in as a return and said I had to call a # to disconnect and then hurried to get back on her phone. I informed her WHY I was unable to do it on the phone (didn't have PIN). Without saying anything she just said ****. I guessed that was my PIN. Very poor customer service. Absolute garbage of a company. I received two beat up cable boxes that didn't work at all. Returned them and canceled services within three days. Asked if it would show on my bill the cancellation. Was told I would get a refund and a cancellation email from management. Nothing happened and I got an extra 200 dollar charge on my bill for something I never paid for. I went in today and asked for management and was told it would be an hour because she was in a meeting. I said I'll wait, and sat down. The guy that's on the right side as you walk in kept telling me they don't do billing in store and you have to call this number. Told him I called and he kept saying I'm probably calling the wrong number. I told home no, I called the right number and need your manager and this is he same guy when I originally came in for cable that couldn't figure out his computer. I signed up with Optimum when I moved here last year because AT&T did not service my zip code for TV. I had numerous service techs out over the year because of poor reception, several screen freezes per hour on a regular basis, and when you called you would get reps who spoke such poor English that you could not get your problem understood. I canceled last week and had to endure 45 minutes with a very argumentative individual person in the retention dept. who would not listen, and kept either interrupting or talking over me before he finally relented to transfer me to the disconnect dept. The individual in that dept. re-started the discussion of what a bad mistake I was making all over again. You had to put up with all of this abuse because until they agreed to move you along in the process you the bills would not stop coming. Stay away, stay very far away from these people. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. After my mother passed away I found her modem, so being nice I'm trying to return the modem. They can't and won't send me a label to return this thing. Mr. Michael Year came out and installed our internet. He was super professional and communicative! Answered all of our questions efficiently and with patience. He even hooked up our apartment with making the Ethernet ports. Now we have supper fast internet at a good price with working ports in every room. This was a huge help because of school and work.
