If you're looking for ease in scheduling appts, look elsewhere. The dentists are personable, but that's about it. They have so much turnover with hygienists that your appts get changed and cancelled multiple times. Last year in June they cancelled my appt 2 days before and rescheduled me for January 2025. When I went to the January appt, they said "oh sorry, all we had was an early AM appt and the dentist isn't in yet so this is just a hygienist appt." Was never told that prior. Had I known, I wouldn't have gone because I needed to see the dentist. In January 2025 I tried to schedule my next appt in 6 months and they said "all we have available is in December." Fine. Scheduled that for today. 1 hour prior to my appointment, Valerie, calls me from the front desk asking for my insurance information (it has been the same since July 2024). She says she can't find anything. I said well then I will have to look and will bring with the information to my appointment. She cuts me off, says "well there's an insurance fee so we have to know now." I said, "like I said, my insurance has been the same Delta Dental since 2024. If you're telling me it's wrong then I need to look into it and will get back to you." I proceed to spend 30 min on the phone with Delta Dental for them to assure me that my insurance is indeed the same it has been since 2024. At this point, I will no longer make my scheduled appt on time so I cancel the appt and will happily find a new dentist. Edit: After calling to cancel my appointment, I told them not to worry about rescheduling as this office was no longer working with me. Valerie proceeded to follow-up via email despite me cutting ties with the office. I feel extremely disappointed, devalued, and frustrated by the lack of communication, professionalism, and compassion shown by the front office staff and management. My husband called ahead to notify the office that I would be arriving late to my appointment due to unforeseen circumstances. He specifically communicated that I would arrive around 3:17 PM, and the receptionist, whose name started with "R," confirmed that it would be okay. Based on that conversation, I drove 1 hour and 14 minutes to make it to the office while dealing with a major highway delay. At 3:21 PM, while pulling into the parking garage, I received a call from Zane informing me that my appointment was being canceled because of a 15-minute grace period. I explained that my husband had already called ahead and communicated the delay, and we were told it would be fine. Zane stated he still needed to cancel the appointment and mentioned speaking with his manager, Sandra, after I expressed my concerns. I asked him to wait, as I was actively parking and walking into the office. When I entered the office, I immediately had my husband on the phone to confirm the prior conversation. The receptionist acknowledged speaking with him but failed to take accountability for not informing us that the appointment would automatically be canceled after 15 minutes. Had that been clearly communicated, we would have made a different decision instead of driving all that way under the impression I would still be seen. The customer service from the front desk staff was disappointing, frustrating, and unprofessional. Unfortunately, this is not the first issue I have experienced with Zane. There have been multiple occasions involving incorrect scheduling and inaccurate billing information that later required Sandra to step in and correct. Placing these individuals as the face of the office creates a poor patient experience. To make matters worse, Sandra, the office manager, came into the open waiting area and attempted to discuss my appointment, billing, and personal matters in front of another patient. I had to request privacy, which should have been offered from the beginning. During our conversation, I was clearly frustrated, but I also felt talked over and dismissed. There was no compassion, empathy, grace, or willingness to work toward a reasonable resolution, whether that meant seeing me briefly or simply helping me reschedule. Additionally, the receptionist, El, acted as though she never assured my husband that we could still be seen after he explained we would pay our previous balance on Friday and specifically asked whether we should still come in for the appointment. Again, there was no accountability for the miscommunication. It is very clear that the office culture and business model have changed. What once felt patient-centered now feels transactional, as though patients should feel privileged simply to be there. Long-term loyalty no longer appears to matter. To my credit, I later called back to apologize for my response out of frustration because I believe in growth, accountability, and handling situations better. However, even during that conversation, there was no effort to extend understanding or mutual respect. Instead, I was told there would be "no grace" given regardless of the communication we provided or our heartfelt apologies. During the call, El stated, "What do you want out of this conversation?" and later said she was "tired of going around and around about this." When we explained that we simply wanted to feel valued as patients, El responded that they also wanted to feel valued by patients arriving on time. However, the fact that we drive over an hour to this office demonstrates that we value their services and respect their time. We also called ahead specifically to communicate the delay, which further showed consideration and respect for the office. El then compared the situation to her experience as a hairstylist. Respect, communication, professionalism, and empathy matter greatly in healthcare settings, and unfortunately, this office failed. INCOMPETENT AND DISHONEST!!!!!! THE WORST DENTIST I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! On November 1, 2026, I broke off a porcelain crown on a front tooth. I went Ora Dental a few hours later, with the broken crown, to have them cement it back into place. I brought with me the cement impression of my upper teeth with my multiple crowns and veneers mounted on it in wax, from the extensive work done by a dentist in Los Angeles. I brought this with me so the Ora dentist would be able to use it to make a replica of my tooth if necessary. After an hour in their chair, with them unsuccessfully attempting to fit the crown back into place, they told me they couldn't repair my tooth. Then they said they could make an Invisalign upper to hold my broken tooth which would fill in the empty space. They then not only made an Invisalign that didn't fit at all (It fell out of my mouth), they ruined my impression by melting the wax. They apologized and told me they would not charge me anything. The next day I went to Always There Dental Care, where Dr. Jeffry Wojno expertly cemented my broken crown in place in less time than I had spent at Ora Dental. I then called Ora Dental and told them that another dentist had fixed my tooth and to remind them that they had told me they would not charge me anything and to make sure they would not bill my insurance as my yearly limit was very low and I would need it to get reimbursed for the fee I had to pay to Always There. I remined them that they had ruined my mold. Today I discovered that not only did they bill my insurance and collect $239 from them, they sent me a bill for $94. This is outrageous!!!! I've been coming here since 2017 and I don't ever want to see another dentist. This dental office is really out of the way for me as it takes me 45 min to an hour to get here, but it's worth it. I've had some periodontal work done in 2017, I come here for all my cleanings, and started my Invisalign journey in 2020. The front office is always so welcoming and I appreciate how they always send text and email reminders for all my upcoming appointments. Short version: They are all about selling you on dental work. They attempted to arrange a procedure I didn't need. Long version: I never write a review; however, for my experience at Ora Wicker Park I'll make an exception. I'm someone who has had extensive dental work for 10 years, I'm not looking to get anything else performed. Ora's first question to me was what I wished I wanted to change about my smile. I answered by telling them I only wanted the cleaning I scheduled and I have paid my dues with dental work. They took over an hour to look at my teeth. Their gum test recommended that my back gums needed numbing in order to be cleaned, which meant scheduling another appointment. Before this appointment, in 2023, I saw two separate dentist that cleaned my mouth and neither informed me of any problems, so I was confused when Ora started to create an expensive treatment plan. Like I said above, I've had extensive dental work, so I know when I'm being sold something I don't need. I scheduled another appointment, but this time with another recommended dentist. Turns out my gums are extremely healthy and they were able to clean my teeth and get me out within the hour. It is very upsetting that this office thinks it is ethical to sell patients unnecessary procedures. Save your time and find somewhere else to go. read more

I'm not sure what it would take for me to give 5 stars to a Dentist Office, but these guys come pretty close. The staff is very friendly, they have snacks for while you are waiting, lots of magazines, flat screen large TVs in the individual cubes so you can watch whatever you want while your teeth get scrubbed, pulled or capped. The facility is brand new and has lots of natural light unlike most dentist offices I have been to where here aren't any windows. I do always think that when the facilities are too nice, then they must have to charge a lot or create extra services to justify the build out, but I'm pretty happy so far. Yes, they did tell me my gums were in bad shape on my first appointment, but truthfully I had gotten out of the habit of flossing and my gums were bleeding pretty badly every time I did. I see this business has prior comments about their RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL desk workers and I just experienced the same exact thing when trying to reschedule a procedure at this office. I missed 2 previous appointments and those appointments were cancelled with much needed notice and now that I'm calling to reschedule I'm given an ultimatum about the appointment because I wasn't able to make the last one. The desk worker tone was so aggressive snarky that I would never want to give a place like this my beard earned money. I've had invisalign treatment here for myself and my husband and the experience with dealing with billing has been appalling. They have not billed my insurance for over $2000 and charged me incorrectly for the services. They owe me reimbursement which I haven't received. A call to the front desk has the snotty staff say the system is not working, the printer is malfunctioning, and other crappy excuses for months now. My insurance is trying to deal with them but the incompetence is appalling. Dr Thurston is good but he really needs to look into billing and snotty uppity holier than thou staff attitude. This place is just awful. The receptionists are consistently snotty and rude, both over the phone and in person. I had a very small filling done, and just had to go back for a third time because the doctor has been unable to properly fix it and it's still causing me pain. I've found a new dentist with staff that seems to actually care about their patients, and can't wait to be done with this place. The only reason for me awarding two stars is because the office is clean and updated. Update: I found a new dentist after my awful experience at Ora with Dr. Thurston at the Wicker Park location. After returning THREE times for Dr. Thurston to fix the small filling he did (he eventually had to completely re-do this), my new dentist just had to do the same filling again. He noted that there was decay under the filling previously done at Ora, which means after three tries it was still done improperly. I was in tears during the filling at Ora because it was so painful, but I felt absolutely nothing at my new dentist. I'm livid that I had to go through that awful process three times at Ora, only to have to pay someone else to fix Dr. Thurston's botched job. Got my top two wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Courtney last Thursday. Only used local anesthesia, took about 45 minutes total, and went home with a prescription of ibuprofen that I basically didn't even need. I never felt any pain during the extraction or recovery process. If it weren't for the slight taste of blood in my mouth for a couple of days, I easily would have forgotten that I even had the teeth removed. I was even able to play in a hockey game Monday (four days after the "surgery"). Obviously my teeth weren't impacted, they were the top ones (which are supposed to be easier to remove), and nothing went wrong, so it was a more routine extraction. But still. You hear so many horror stories about wisdom teeth and this couldn't have gone any smoother. Happy with my results even though I had to move out of the state, but got about 90% of where I wanted to be with my teeth. I had a few months of dental coverage left so I decided to go in for a teeth cleaning. That's all I needed - a teeth cleaning. ORA didn't provide that. They had me schedule an "initial patient consultation," which I went to. To their credit, everyone there was super nice, and the hygienist was lovely as she was taking photos of my teeth and poking my gums. She said I didn't have any cavities but needed a "deep cleaning," which involves numbing my mouth, to fix some gum recession. THEN I'd have to come after 3 months, then after 4 months, then eventually once every 6 months, to repeat the procedure. Every other dentist I've seen has said something like "yeah it's a little recessed, just try to be more diligent about flossing." The equally nice dentist then came in and echoed that I needed a deep cleaning. But in the same breath, she said that my case "is not at all severe." I was then handed off to the receptionist, who showed me a rate schedule for the next 2 visits and immediately pushed to schedule the procedures. Look. I understand that ORA is a business, and it's my fault for going to such a big box place and then being surprised when they pushed their products on me. But their entire goal is to get you in the door and coming back for more expensive treatments. If you need serious work or really want an intense oral care regimen, ORA might be a fit. But if you just want to get your teeth cleaned every year or whatever, go somewhere else. read more

I needed a new dentist when moving to Chicago, and felt great about Ora. Beautiful office, massage chairs, super nice hygienists. Also, they offered appointments after work hours which was convenient. I had a tiny cavity that Dr. Thurston suggested I got filled. First, he could not get the numbing shot to work. This baffled me because I always got numb really quickly at my old dentist. He probably gave me 3 or 4 shots in the cheek (waiting 15-20 min in between each shot) just to have me still not be numb, or be numb in the total wrong place in my mouth. We finally got it after about an hour. From the moment I left, that filling did not feel right. Tons of food got stuck between the two teeth (I was flossing 3x a day) and I had soreness. I went back in and the female dentist ensured me it was normal and that sometimes after fillings, there are bigger spaces in between the teeth and I'd just need to floss more. Turns out my gut was right, when the problems continued I went back to Michigan to a dentist I trusted. He let me know the filling was done poorly and was never bonded correctly to the tooth, they used way too much filling material for the size of the tooth, and that there was tons of decay in the gap left between the filling and the tooth. I had to get a crown because there was too much damage and too little tooth left to do another filling. I was livid and in tears. Take my advice and please do not get work done here. read more

This was my first visit to a dental office in years and I'm so glad my insurance lists them as in-network! I made an appointment at 5pm and they took me in 15 minutes early. My dental hygienist Gloria was super nice and professional! She made sure I understood all the procedures and answered all my questions. More importantly, she made me feel very comfortable and not vulnerable with my mouth wide open. I must start with, I LOVE the ORA dental team. Meaning the people that actually work on your mouth. BUT the female that manages the office and billing needs to work on her customer service skills and the words she chooses to use when speaking with a client that is not happy with a major MISTAKE "SHE" made regarding the billing. Initially she told me more than once that "I" stopped payment and the contact information I left no longer works. I was told that I owed $238. I recently retired and on a fixed income. This bill was since 2011. I was about to pay and was embarrassed that my account shout them out and I didnt receive any of the messages. Then I realized I didn't have the funds at the time and said I needed to look into this. Bottomline I found that my account was still active and found bank statements that proved they were able to bill my account and receive payment. I called twice to explain this and left messages. No one returned my call. When I got to the office for an appointment she reviewed MY findings and said Oh I see your payments went to another account with the same name. this is when all, kindness, understanding and compassion left the room. Sure she said she was sorry and there is nothing else I can do. You still owe $42. I said why? You only billed my account for $X amount then closed the account. That was a year ago. I had to do the research to find this and as mentioned I am on a fixed income. I had the money last year but not this year. can you give me a discount anything. NO, we are "human" and made a mistake...... I told her I needed a minute because I was getting upset. please know i was not raising my voice but I felt I could so I again asked for a minute. I said I want to think about this and will deal with it after my visit. She said NO you have to pay before your visit. When was this the rule. I've been with Ora for 10 years. So I still took a minute and paid. That wasn't the end, she just kept coming with other small but things that was not in my favor. I was a horrible experience. I pay a lot of money for this care and I want to be recognized as a valued customer not just an outstanding balance of $44. read more

Be very careful when you go here and dont be fooled by the high-tech cool office ambiance. I went there for the first time as I moved from SF and was looking for a local dentist. I have been going to my dentist in SF regularly for the past 5 years and went for my last visit in Nov 2011. When I went to ORA, since I did not need any cavities, they HIGHLY recommended that I needed gingivitis (gum reconstruction) because I had readings of 3-4-5. I was surprised to hear this as this was never a concern from my past dentist. Luckily, ORA did not have any appointment for another 2 months even for a simple cleaning so I called my dentist in SF and he was surprised at their recommendation as well. I then found another dentist down the street (Modern Dental Chicago), who did all the same readings as ORA, and clearly said I do not need gingivitis as my gums were not that bad and 3-4-5 did not demand gum reconstruction. I also flew to SF for mem day and my dentist there checked me out and confirmed I was good. BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! I used to go here the first couple years I lived in the city because it was near my apartment. The first two times I went, everything was great, I loved it, I recommended it to a couple friends The second two times I went (the last time being spring '15) my experiences were horrible. The last time I went I had a filling, simple right? Me, being a full time college student, on my parents insurance, means that certain medical bills get mailed to them and they handle it for tax purposes and what not because they own the company my insurance is under. The condescending receptionist (the one with tattoos) said some deplorable condescending comment under her breath because my parents were paying for the co-pay. "You don't have your own credit card to cover the payment" with an eye roll and than started typing on her computer... A) I do have my own credit card B) Its none of your damn business why I am not using my credit card C) Learn how to act professional and ask appropriate questions to a client/customer whatever name this company refers to patients. D) I guess that's why you're a secretary, right? The dentists and hygienists were awesome aside from the last time I went, I think, well they did mess my filling up because my tooth was hurting horrible for two weeks after. Come to find out (I went to a different dentist after this) I had to get a new filling on the same one because something wasn't done properly or whatever. I honestly would have came back here but the way I was treated because my parents were paying for the filling was not cool. I don't recommend anyone on their parents insurance to go to this dentist. Well, I just had my crown filled at this place. Unless they used pure platinum to fillet, I can't understand why it cost me $295 for a less than 10 minute procedure. The dentist does good work, which is unfortunate, because I will never walk for these doors again. They did not go over a treatment plan with me, but I have had teeth filled before, and wasn't expecting a bill any more than $150 at the most. When I expressed my utter shock at the price, the Office manager, who seems to be trained in this customer service techniques equivalent to AT&T and Comcast, explained with a condescending smile that although the procedure takes much less time and work than a regular filling, the material used for the buildup is more expensive. I don't buy it one bit. Well, technically I guess I did buy it, because I reluctantly paid the price and walked out. This is not the first time I have felt scammed by ORA dental. After having a good experience getting my wisdom teeth pulled at the South Loop location, I decided to have my regular cleanings done closer to home at the Wicker Park location. My first visit, I waited in the chair for 40 minutes. I was told I had two cavities, and to come back a week later to get them filled. When I returned, the hygienist numbed my mouth, then proceeded to tell me I had FOUR cavities. I told her that was not the case, and then waited for 30 minutes while she tried to figure out where my cavities actually were. I wish I would have left right then, because by the time they were ready to drill, the numbness in my mouth was subsiding. A fact I mentioned to them, but was ignored. Made an appointment as my insurance just kicked in and I was due for a cleaning. Over the phone they were very friendly, and were happy to schedule me in for a teeth cleaning. Waiting 18 minutes from my appointment but that's fine, nice set up. The room was great, massage chair! TV! Because it was my first time there they needed to get Xrays. They examined me and recommended a deep cleaning. I said "thanks, but I'll just take the peasant cleaning today". The hygienist (who was super nice) went to get the front desk girl, who told me they can't do a regular cleaning, it could cause some sort of inflammation blah blah.. I asked her if she was the dentist, she was not. Finally, Dr. thurston came in, examined me, he was nice and agreed to do my regular cleaning and could have me back in 4 weeks for a deep cleaning. I felt kinda tricked that I wanted my teeth cleaned, and they were gonna have to reschedule me for a "deep cleaning". Ran this by my dental friends and they said that the idea of a deep cleaning (under gumes) is not unreasonable, but not essential. The cleaning itself was good (I've had better). All in all i give this place a reluctant three stars, the hygienist saved the day, it seemed as though she'd been coached about pushing this deep cleaning, I donno, didn't sit right with me. I also asked if my insurance would cover the deep cleaning, and no one would give me a straight answer, it may depend, but I'd rather know before I sign up. read more
