We had an incredible experience last night. The food and service were excellent. My wife and I ordered the same thing. She loved hers but it was not for me. There was nothing wrong with it at all. Our waitress asked how we liked it and I was honest. She insisted that I get something I liked. I placed another order and 6 minutes later I was eating an incredible meal. The mistake was on me but they charged me only for one dinner. We dine out a lot but this was a first. We can't wait to go back. read more

I had a delicious lobster pasta with mushrooms to start and the angus beef entree with crispy kale and a delicious sauce. The service was excellent and the setting is quintessential Nantucket. My husband and mother also loved their meals. One of the best restaurants on the island. read more

Friends told us about Oran Mor after they had one of the best meals of their lives. So they went back the next day and ordered the same meal. We joined them and also had a great meal. Delightful atmosphere and great service. My only complaint was that the portions were a little small for the price. read more

If we're JUST talking food & ambiance this would be a 4/5 star... but when we drop $300 on dinner for 2 & the service sucks? Nope, not cool. We got seated quickly, it was 9:15 & the rush was starting to die down. We ordered drinks & waited 30+ minutes for a bottle of wine. after 27+ minutes (yes, now i'm watching the clock) the hostess walked by & i asked her for menus b/c our waitress was MIA. The bread guy walked by twice filling other people's bread plates & skipped us; it's now 9:45 & we're hungry. The waitress (finally) brings our wine, "Wow, that took forever" is all she says, she asks if we'd like more bread. "MORE bread? We'd like bread... we haven't gotten any yet". then we hear her bitching at bread-guy, it was loud & uncomfortable & we're feeling bad for bread-guy. Then she asks if we're ready to order & i told her we got our menus about 30 seconds ago from the hostess.... so no---we needed a minute. She seemed annoyed. She came back & we placed our order. A few minutes later, we hear her listing the specials to the table behind us. Specials?? We never heard about SPECIALS! Annoyed again. Maybe we caught this lady on a bad day... who knows? In general, she seemed salty, annoyed & quite frankly wasn't a good waitress. I think most people will agree, poor service really impacts what should be a 5-star dining experience & on this night, it certainly did. read more

Terrible service,and not impressed about the food at all.My octopus was fishy and overwhelming,wouldn't eat that dish ever again,and my steak was overcooked,and i had the lime meringue tart,and that didn't taste fresh at all. read more

Entrees were good. Service not so much. The peas and flowers was ok but not the best. We had been recommended to try it. Dessert was odd, it was literally a popsicle but the server kept calling it a lollipop. I wish it had been explained better because I really don't like this type of ice cream bar and it was weird eating it at such a nice restaurant. I felt like I was 5 years old. read more

A wonderful experience with impeccable value. We had a 9:30 reservation and arrived at a busy restaurant. We loved the mozzarella and tomato salad (that has a much more eloquent and descriptive name than I can recall). A new Pierogi small plate recently added to the menu was spectacular. Had dinner last night at Oran Mor. It was nothing short of spectacular. I have eaten here many times before and never been disappointed. The amazing thing about it is that it was the first night they were open for the season. The pork belly appetizer melted in my mouth. The peas and flowers was one of the nicest presentations i have seen on Nantucket, and it tasted fresh and delicious as well. The striped bass was equally amazing. The best part of the entire meal was the desserts. We had the raspberry beret and the sampling of ice cream. Which are all homemade! The service was on point as usual, and they seemed to have added a sommelier. Can't wait to return. read more

Delightful dinner. Ambience is perfect. Service was great. My caution is that Oran Mor is like other upscale Nantucket restaurants (Dune for example) -- elegant, tasteful and expensive. But for a more down home experience look furthur, go off island in Barnstable (Osterville Fish Too), for instance, where I had a simple grilled swordfish at less than 1/2 the price. The basic grilled swordfish there was a refreshing change (basics) to the "fancy" entrees at Oran Mor and other Nantucket upscale restaurants. Enjoy the gourmet, upscale but search out the basic. read more

Being made to feel unwelcome on our arrival influenced everything that came after. I booked a reservation for our wedding anniversary a week prior, and was very clear that we would be bringing our infant daughter. I'm not sure it should matter, but we rarely bring her out to dinner with us, and we do so only because we know she's at a stage where she can sit or sleep quietly in her car-seat during the meal. We also book the earliest reservation available, and confirm when booking the reservation that we are two + a baby, just in case there are any issues. Per the restaurant's policy, I called the morning of our reservation and left a message to confirm. Again, I noted in my message that we would have a baby with us. We didn't request, or need, any special accommodation, we simply gave them a heads up. So I was baffled by the hostess / manager's reaction when we showed up on time for our reservation. Instead of greeting us, and directing us our table, we were instead treated like unwelcome dinner guests who showed up unannounced. "I'll have to find a place to put you," was actually our greeting, which was followed by much scrambling and whispering between the staff. We were eventually ushered to the far room, and (begrudgingly) given a table pulled away from a larger setting with which it shared booth-seating on one side. The set-up wasn't ideal, but at that point , given the reaction on our arrival, we were just glad we weren't seated in the alley behind the building. One of the waitstaff, recognized this, and asked us if we would be more comfortable at one of the tables in the bar. We were, and the table we moved to was perfect. But, as I mentioned at the top, it's hard to shake the feeling of not being welcomed at the outset, and even if our meal and service had been perfect from that point on (it wasn't) our overall experience at Oran Mor would still have suffered. I feel like I need to be clear that we are not that couple who shows up to a nice (objectively) restaurant with screaming ill-behaved kids ,who then get huffy because the rest of the world doesn't find them as adorable as we do. For the record, our daughter barely made a sound throughout the entire evening. It was a frustrating experience, especially given that my wife had fond memories of coming to Oran Mor as a child herself. In Summary: Food - OK. We had the grilled pork-chop and the roasted chicken. Both were good, although a little over-salted, and the sides were tasty. The chicken and the sides for both dishes were cooler than we would have preferred, most likely due to the cook time of the pork-chop or it's possible we were forgotten as the bar became busy shortly after we were seated. Service - See above. Ambiance - Mixed. The bar and the first room off the bar are fantastic and cozy. The far room is a little too bright and doesn't offer much character. Price - fair for Nantucket. read more

Food was good but some dishes suffered in overall taste due to some random ingredient that was thrown in for creativity? Oran Mor is the finest restaurant on Nantucket, a true gem that serves food so good it justifies a trip to this absurd island of lighthouses and mansions. This is not a callous cash-grab satellite of a once-famous chef - here, you can truly feel the attention paid by the masterful chef Chris Freeman. My six-person table enjoyed wonderful service within a charming and intimate atmosphere. Our food, from the simplest salad to the most elaborate duck, was stupendous. Even the bread and butter was delicious. If you can only eat at once place on Nantucket, please, go to Oran Mor. It's that good. read more

Wonderful food at a very high price. Service is first rate almost European standard. This is the millionaire's restaurant but the cuisine makes it worth it. For a mere $84-$94 per person you can have the choice of an individual four course menu but most diners forgo that for creative choice. Lamb is cooked to perfection, Salmon is Wild Alaskan, vegetables in exquisite sauces. However I have to say the food is not superior to the Bistro on Center St. read more

I highly recommend checking this place out while in Nantucket. The cocktails were exceptional, we only had the small plates but each one was made with care and in my opinion authenticity. And the real diamond in the rough was the bartender, each and every cocktail we had was made to perfection ( favorite was aviation). He honestly is in the wrong business. I went to this enchanting place last evening for dinner and had an amazing experience with three of my very best girlfriends! As it is Restaurant Week here in Nantucket I ordered the prix fixe. The prix fixe did not disappoint! First course was a delicious burata with beets and grapefruit. Second course was scallops over risotto cooked to perfection. Third course was duck that even my friends who tried it that don't like duck loved it. The closer was a warm brownie. Portions were perfect size, remember it is French so you aren't going to get oversized portions. Atmosphere is quaint and cozy. Wine list very nice. Bread is fresh and delicious. The only distraction was our waitress who was not friendly whatsoever. However, the food made up for it. My friends loved the food too. Can't wait to go back! read more

As a New Yorker I regularly eat some of the best food in the country, and while I may not be a critic I know a thing or two about quality food. I'll say this; Oran Mor isn't the perfect restaurant. The interior is alright, as it is a bit dark and dreary for my taste. The service was ok. Our waiter was nice but I got the feeling she wanted to rush us as it was a bit late. But what matters most is the food. Anyone who has given a bad review because they didn't like a waiter, one particular dish, or portion size is a fool. The food here is excellent. Period. Service was terrible, tried to take our wine glasses away two times, when wine was remaining in the bottle. This error was made by a young waitress, which was forgiven. Recently, my husband and I, along with another couple, had the pleasure of dining at Oran Mor Bistro. We sat outside at the Chef's Terrace Table, a private dining area for up to four guests. That, paired with the most attentive waitstaff I ever encountered, made us feel like royalty. The food was exceptional. The Peas and Wildflowers appetizer was a treat for both one's eyes and taste buds! We all loved the Roasted Oysters, and I would order the Lobster Gemelli again and again!
