My husband and I had dinner at Oran Mor and it was one of the best meals we have had! The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing. The waitress was really nice, but not checking us after we get each meal, we never got bread (all the tables around us got) and our friends wanted to order another round of drinks, but till the waitress stopped by we already had the dessert, so they decided not to. Wonderful meal, ambience and service. The food was excellent. Our waitperson was very knowledgeable and competent. While this is a fairly expensive restaurant it was more than justified. We ate at another so called upper tier restaurant on Nantucket this past weekend and the experience at Oran Mor was an order of magnitude better than at the other restaurant. We were very disappointed with the new iteration of Oran Mor, formerly our favorite ACK restaurant for over 8 years. Our recent meal was both unremarkable in flavor and in design. Service details were also lacking: half of our table received their entrees a full FIVE minutes before the second half, with no apologies. Surprisingly, the restaurant now charges for bread. Really. What high quality restaurant does this? What had been so wonderful about Oran Mor was its strong consistency in flavor profiles, in superb service and its excellent wine list. An incredible disappointment for a Thanksgiving Dinner. The server was so over efficient that she missed the point of holiday dinner. She gave no greeting. Never smiled. Seemed as though she threw the dishes on the table. Two of us ordered 'Amish free range turkey' and got turkey role with no gravy. We questioned the style of turkey and was told that the chef purposely created a 'roulade' from the supposed Amish turkey. Why??? One lobster dinner was ordered. It was served with bunches of fried onions all over it and a few mushroom pieces. The claws on the lobster were missing! I named the supposed dessert 'toast' for all it consisted of was a slice of toast with Nutella smeared on it and 3 pecan nuts atop. It was a bad culinary experience. read more

We decided on the oysters and lobster pasta for our appetizers. My husband was very hesitant about "roasted" oysters but he gobbled them up! We got the pork chop and halibut...again well presented plates and was extremely happy that we left the restaurant....FULL! Beautiful wine list and we skipped out on dessert but our server dropped off Madeleines! So thoughtful of Oran Mor! We had another fabulous meal, as we do every year. The chef is ex-Topper's on the island, and is superb. We had duck sausage, a tomato/watermelon salad, and pork loin. The presentations and originality are wonderful. The service was excellent. And they have a nice half-bottle wine list, which is a big help since my wife doesn't drink. There is a front and back to this second-story restaurant, and I requested the front, since the back feels like Siberia. (In between, there is one table on a fire escape, which some people find private and romantic, and I find bizarre.) The hostess wanted to place us in the back, but I pointed to an unoccupied table in the front, and she made the switch. This happens often with reservations in popular restaurants with part-time hostesses here. It's hard to park closer than 2-3 blocks away, but the food is worth it even if you had to walk a mile. read more

The best meal so far on our travels through the Cape and onwards. Loved the elegant upstairs rooms in this old charming house cleverly adapted for intimate dining areas. Service was superb, attentive but not intrusive. Our party of four tried pork , fish and chicken, all were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.. To finish try the scrumptious chocolate pot. A little expensive but well worth the splurge if only to feast your eyes on the work of art that was the beet salad. read more

Definitely one of the top restaurants on Nantucket. Varied menu prepared creatively but not trying to be too cute. Warm atmosphere where you know you in one of the best destinations anywhere. I love Chris Freeman's food and think it is some of the best on Nantucket. The ambiance is quiet and cute. The service however is totally hit or miss. You can get a great person or a flaming, rude, in your face buzz-kill -- especially one pushing $300 bottles of wine not only to our table but to every table she took care of. Sort of obnoxious when dinner is $150 a head without a $300 bottle of wine. Seems many of the reviews are saying the exact same thing. Paula's review of 8/18/14 seemed to have the exact same person we had last night! So it's sort of a coin toss when its all said and done. read more

Highly disappointed in not only the service but the food as well. Overcooked asparagus with lumpy broken hollandaise that tasted like a salted lemon. Incinerated pork belly with inedible cracklins, they lemon clan pasta dish was the only thing that almost saved the evening, once we added some needed black pepper and shredded the edible bits of pork belly to cut the acidity. As a fist time Nantucket vacationer, I was very pleased with our experience here. The only reservation available was for 9 o'clock. My boyfriend and I arrived about 20 minutes early and ordered a drink at the bar. Within five minutes we were seated in a beautiful room that had a fireplace and bookshelves. The service was prompt and the waitress gave good recommendations. We ordered the shrimp and house made burratta appetizers and they were great! My boyfriend ordered the ribeye and said it was excellent and perfectly cooked and I ordered the swordfish, also delicious! I couldn't leave without ordering the brownie bread pudding that other yelp reviewers raved about. It was a perfect ending to our night! read more

We had a great meal here and really enjoyed sharing a few entrees (halibut, pork) and appetizers/sides (beets and asparagus). The desserts were lovely as well and all around the meal was very enjoyable with a medium bodied pinot noir. Although our server was really wonderful, the hostess was a little odd. She reacted a little rudely when we mentioned that we were early and asked if we could wait at the bar (it was a rainy night and there was plenty of room to wait). When we then mentioned we'd prefer to be seating in another room of the restaurant (there was a 2 top in the bar we kind of figured was pegged for us) she took us through to the very back of the restaurant in a small dining room. This would have been fine, but there was only one other party there and as the room was almost empty, they were extremely loud and we could barely hear each other. There were plenty of options in the rest of the restaurant, but we kind of felt like she was punishing us. Given the caliber and prices of the restaurant I think we expected a better ability to read your customer and the situation at hand. read more

Amazing experience....with the food and the staff. We arrived without reservations and the restaurant was packed. We were disappointed that we could not get in and as we were walking down the street the hostess surprised us by running up and saying she would make room for us. That in and of itself is a unique experience in Nantucket. We went in and the food was unreal! Loved everything about it. We have been several times to Oran Mor and loved it. This time not so much. While the food was fine the service was horrible. We were the first in our server's section and received reasonable service. Shortly after a foursome showed up and took virtually all of the server's attention. Barely saw him or the same person again. I have experienced better service and expect better service for the prices. Too many other good restaurants in Nantucket to come back anytime soon. read more

I never write Yelp reviews and felt compelled to write how amazing the food is at Oran Mor. We started out with the kale Caesar. For those of you thinking how can kale be this good, well it was!!! My husband got the honey duck and I got the pasta special with chicken sausage and broccoli rabe. Both meals were out of this world with flavor and cooked to perfection. We ended the meal with the Oran S'mor which was fire roasted fluff over dark chocolate ice cream, with peanut butter and graham cracker. Oh my goodness - yum! I have heard good things about this restaurant but for some reason or another not able to get here in the past. We somehow were able to snag a seat at the bar and were treated wonderfully. The pino noir I got was also too good to just have one glass!! To top it all off, the owner came over to small talk and made sure we enjoyed our food. He was very nice and I could tell he was genuinely happy we had come to dine there for the first time. We love Nantucket and will surely be back to dine at Oran Mor!!! Not ready for prime time yet. The new owners have a long way to go to reach the reputation it had before. Bizarre that bread is not provided unless you ask, and they don't tell you it is available. Pork chop tough and over cooked. Gemelli undercooked. Need to work on presentation and overall house management.
