Stopped in here on a whim and so glad we did! Sat at the bar and had some of the most AMAZING drinks we've had in the long time. We were lucky enough to meet Jon behind the bar, co-owner of the bistro, and he was fantastic. Amazing dinner - hands down my favorite meal had while in Nantucket for a four day getaway. We started with the house-made burrata cheese. It was velvety, slightly sweet, creamy and rich. Absolutely delicious. JT decided on the pork chop served over a bed of spinach and red beans. An odd sounding combo on paper, but he said it was the best pork chop he's ever had. I decided on the swordfish, served with king crab and a parmesan broth with fingerling potatoes. I cleaned my plate and it was a healthy serving size! I wish I had some bread to dip into the broth because it was simple amazing. Good, clean food with no additions that mask the beauty of the food itself. No errant sprigs of parsley marring the delicate balance of ingredients...everything blended together for a harmonious and delicious food feast! Just finished our dinner here and absolutely loved it. By far our best dinner and dining experience in Nantucket. Our waiter (not sure of his name but we were in the back room) was wonderful. Food was excellent. Only wish we had arrived earlier to enjoy the beautiful bar. Highly highly recommend. Cocktails are all very good. Try the oysters to start and the bouillabaisse as a main. We were called telling us someone had cancelled and we could get in earlier in the evening. The bisque was wonderful and creamy with the flavors of the ingredients blended well. I had the lamb tenderloin and my wife had the chicken. Both were cooked well and were juicy. Presentation of the dishes were great. The service was fast but not rushed and it allowed us to talk and relax by the fireplace in this old styled building. We had a fantastic dinner several nights ago. My duck was absolutely marvelous. Cooked to perfection and it stands up there with my favorite nyc duck dish at cafe boulud. The flavors were complex and seasonally inspired. It was so good I had to order more to go so I could enjoy the flavors again!! We live in both Sonoma county California and Fairfield county Ct so we have a vast array of very high quality restaurants of all types in San Francisco and NYC from which to choose. My wife and i just loved the food, service and ambiance here, which would shine in any of the places mentioned. As a Sonoma County guy, I am very interested in the wine list. Jon, one of the two owners, has created a small but well thought out list. He picked a lovely Red burgundy in the $55 range which was a perfect selection. We started with the roasted oysters which we ranked right in the top of ones we have had. Next were two specials, the diver scallops, which were perfectly prepared, and a lovely pasta with house made chicken sausage. We have loved Oran Mor for years. The food is fantastic. I had the special bass with shishito peppers and fingerling potatoes and it was perfect. We shared the mocha dessert (they were out of the peach dessert) snd it was well worth the calories. But the best part was our water, Charles. Òran Mór is the finest restaurant on Nantucket Island, it is simply superb. It was so outstanding that my wife and I returned for a second time within five days. The Long Island duck breast was, by far, the best I have ever had, and the Moroccan fish tagine and black truffle bucatini were phenomenal. Everything we tasted was incredible. My husband and I had an excellent dinner there this past week to celebrate our anniversary. Being from LA, I had posted on chowhound about restaurant recommendations and Oran Mor was mentioned several times so it seemed like a solid choice. Everything from the in house baked breads to dessert was full of flavor and expertly seasoned. I had the pork loin, which was perfectly cooked, juicy and pink. My husband loved his swordfish and that bread pudding dessert...swoon! The wine list is impressive and complimented the food nicely. The food, ambiance and service were top notch and we both really liked how unpretentious and intimate the restaurant is. If we are ever in Nantucket again, we will definitely return. In all honesty, one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. Bravo. read more

My husband and I went there during Christmas Stroll during our honeymoon, on the recommendation of our innkeeper. It was pretty and romantic, and the food and service were quite good: not the best I've ever experienced on Nantucket for sure, but very fine . Our wine was corked, but the wine steward was called and took care of this immediately and pleasantly. This may not be significant, but I was a little disappointed that we didn't have a nicer table, given that they knew it was our honeymoon and it was our "big dinner out" for the weekend (The White Elephant Grille, despite being the last evening of their year, was more satisfying overall). Nevertheless, I imagine that during the height of the season you can't go wrong here. Whether it will blow your socks off, I cannot say...it was fine. read more

Go Every summer. Been going here every summer when I'm on Nantucket since they opened. Always had great meals and this week was no exception. Always very interesting selections well prepared. Dined here on our second night in Nantucket. The night before we dined at Straight Wharf (see my review on here). While this place was very good, Straight Wharf was better and the one we will be going back to. The ambiance just wasnt there nor could we seem to build a rapport with our waiter. One awesome thing here tho is the bread - they have a pancetta/basil/tomato bread that is unreal. I would have liked to have bought a loaf. We had the Figs and Burrata, Pierogies and Oysters to start. All very good. Entrees were the pork chop, halibut and swordfish, again, all very good. We shared desserts which i remembered were good but i honestly cant remember what they were! So i guess that sums it up - we had a good experience here but not one that left us lasting memories of specific things we had to have again other than the bread. read more

Stopped in on a rainy Saturday evening without a reservation. The restaurant was crowded especially the bar area but they were able to accommodate us in a cozy area away from the bar. In fact, it was the chef/owner himself at the front stand who allowed us to be seated at a table for four even though it was just two of us. Drinks were good. I had a Cosmopolitan and my husband the Upper East Side. Appetizers were Chicken Rillette and Spring Peas and Wildflowers. Not only did they look beautiful but they tasted amazing! My husband had the Moroccan Fish Tagine and I had the Chicken Roulade. Both very tasty as well! We ended the meal with an Oran S'mores Bonfire. Ate here 3 nights ago, as it was highly recommended. Turns out it was really the recommendation based on the previous owner, and one that was an experience earlier in the summer. Maybe the food was what folks allude to as "August in Nantucket," where some chefs just give up or something, or maybe the new owners have just given up. Shishito peppers, "amazing," according to our waitress, were described as having smoked tomato and Meyer lemon. They came, looking like limp looking peppers and even worse tasting. No salt, no smoked tomato taste or actual, and definitely not a hint of Meyer lemon which would have been a yummy concept, to have at east a slice. Chanterelle pasta with lobster was doused in tarragon to the point that it tasted only like that. My cardamom 18 buck cocktail, had rosemary and not a trace of cardamom. Chicken... aside from being dry, was supposed to be served with grits. They kind of tasted like grita but the color was brown, lliterally looked like refried beans and had that consistency. No joke. The tagine was just meh. The octopus was quite good and the oysters were in-fact quite tasty. The service was fine, but eager to take a bread plate with bread on it still, with out asking. Overall it was a real bust, unexciting and lacking imagination, and felt like a huge waste of money. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I am sad that I have been on Nantucket for 21 weeks and I leave next week and JUST discovered this place ! Decided to try Oran Mor for Fall restaurant week on Nantucket. Making a reservation couldn't have been easier (Thanks, Yelp!). Upon arrival, the ambience was immediately calm, warm and inviting. Super cute little bar, charming booths (asymmetrical bench sizes I see you) and classic and tasteful decor. We were immediately warmly greeted and led to our table. Surprisingly, the restaurant was much larger than you immediately think- each made up of a bunch of smaller rooms with again, tasteful and homey decor and feel. Service was impeccable from host, to servers and those who happened to notice water was low or bread needed replenishing. Being Restaurant Week, they offered a set menu of app/entree/dessert (or you could sub 'savory side') for $49. This appeared to be one of the few places offering options to choose from, as other establishments I've been to this week did not offer the guest to choose. Both my friend and I chose the winter squash soup, truffle buccatini, and sweet potato pie. Paired with a phenomenal red wine. The soup came deconstructed with dry ingredients in the bowl and the liquid poured over at the table- bonus points for presentation AND taste! The buccatini was out of this freaking world good and if I could have had seconds I would have (debates licking the plate, I will not lie). The pie was the perfect mix of sweet and tart with a cranberry glaze. Portions were perfect so you did not feel over stuffed by the time you left. Our server was sweet, attentive and added to the experience. Again, if you have a chance to check this place out, I highly suggest it. A NOT MISS on Nantucket ! read more

Expensive but (and?) worth it. This is our 3rd visit to Oran Mor in 5 years. Thought it was full of itself 5 years ago, but had a good meal despite the supercilious waitstaff. Had a very mediocre meal 4 years ago. Tried it again on the recommendation of a friend, and this time was the charm. The service was polite, friendly and excellent. The food was overall good--had the beef shoulder special and it was terrific. My date had the prime rib and it was a bit overcooked but still delicious. The hostess did commit a huge faux pas: the phone rang as we walked in, and she looked at us and then answered the phone. Ah, the digital generation! Couldn't reach them when I phoned to make reservations (making me wonder who had walked in who was important enough to make the hostess neglect a ringing phone); I reserved through Yelp with no trouble. read more

Excellent food and service from cocktails all the way through dessert. I had the roasted oysters as a first course. They were prepared a la bourguignon with garlic, butter and herbs.
