I was meeting a long lost friend a few months ago and she was staying in the apts behind Joann Fabric off Tustin. This place seemed promising and had an extensive breakfast menu, so why not...? I did not read the older reviews from about 4 months ago before going, and they were spot on. The new owners pack the tables in and the decibel level is high and definitely not conducive to catch-up talk. On a weekday at around 10am, it was packed with blue collar workers, families with high-pitched babies and toddlers, and leisurely locals. The most recent reviews comment that the service has vastly improved, so I'm glad that the owners have taken notice. When an outside table became available after 15 min of pain indoors, we darted for it and waved to our harried server. I opted to try the $20+ chilaquiles, which had nice flavor and a decent portion, but a $20 breakfast option seemed excessive for a local cafe spot. My friend had traditional pancakes with sausage on the side. I don't remember paying almost $45 breakfast for 2, but this seems like the new normal. The ambiance was less than optimal and cramped and LOUD, with irritated looking servers. Although I always want to support deserving small businesses, I will probably invite my friend over next time she visits and cook some farmers market eggs and sausage, with local artisan sourdough from Small Axe bread. I could prob buy some mimosa supplies and a nice Brut and still come out ahead. After I read the mix of old and newer reviews, I will revisit and update my own to reflect what will hopefully be a much improved experience! read more

This is a nice little breakfast place for cozy mornings. I always say you know it's a good breakfast place when there are elderly people there, and this place is crawling with 'em. Just know that it is a small place, and it often gets crowded, so plan ahead, and if you're not coming first thing, prepare to wait. I loved this place when I first started coming a few years ago. They've recently remodeled, and for some reason, it's not the same warm, towny restaurant anymore. Luckily there are more servers now, but they're not the same attentive and sweet servers that used to make patrons feel at home here. I think the remodel brought more young (loud) families and less older, peaceful people. The last time I came here, I was surrounded by screaming babies and toddlers running around. I don't even remember what the food tasted like. Speaking of the food, yes the prices went up, just like everywhere else, but they seem to be giving the same amount of food, so that's a win! I always end up taking half of my plate home. I normally get the Veggie omelette, no tomatoes, with Irish home fries (onions and peppers) or a scramble. I always ask for light cheese, and they always put the biggest globs of cheese regardless, so keep that in mind if you're not a cheese fiend. The Creme brûlée French toast is also very good. Another thing that makes me like this place is that they have squaw bread! It's SOOOO good. Don't get the Bloody Mary. In short, I would recommend this place if you want a genuinely good micro-diner experience. Sit outside if you're not a fan of screaming babies inside small spaces. read more

Tried this spot today with a friend. I wouldn't call it a hole in the wall, but a small, cozy place. First off, the coffee was surprisingly good. I'm pretty picky, but it was hot and a good strength. The waitress came through regularly to fill my cup and bring me creamer, which was awesome. We shared the strawberry/banana waffle and made it a combo. Came with eggs and bacon. Ordered an extra side of bacon (my friend is a bacon freak, haha) and plain home fries. When my eggs came out I asked for salsa, and the waitress brought out a green salsa. I was skeptical looking at it, but the salsa was spicy and good! The rest of the food was good. Made perfectly. if I came back I'd have the chilaquiles, which looked amazing at the table next to me. The only thing I wasn't crazy about is the parking situation. The lot is small for so many businesses. But I found some street parking, luckily. Just be aware if you're planning on meeting a lot of people there because that may be an issue. read more

My friend and I arrived for breakfast around 10:30am, and the female server was so horrible (& rude) that we literally got up and left after waiting over 20 minutes to just place an order. We gave up. She snapped at us "it wasn't 20 minutes) and no apology. We could see that she was the only server, which staffing was definitely part of the problem. My son loves brunch, so if there's ever anything special to celebrate, it's our 'thing' to head out for some Eggs Benedict! We've enjoyed eating at the Orange Cafe many times over the years, but this was our first visit to the latest Bistro iteration. While there has been a nice facelift inside, it's still the same down-to-earth diner we love. The real specialty of the house, amazing food and service, is still standing strong. Our server Nina took great care of us - our food arrived exactly as ordered, and she never let my coffee cup run low. By the way, portions are still huge, so bring an appetite! Randomly wanted brunch from a mom and pop and stumbled upon this gem of a place. The food is delicious and the service was great! There was plenty of parking which is plus. There's also some outdoor seating, perfect for a pet friendly environment. I got the Denver potato pancakes with eggs and sausage. The portion was very generous. If I came back, I would reorder the same thing. The table next to us had some mimosas and an ice bucket, looked fancy! Might get that next time too. read more

This place is a fun, fellowshippy vibe A place to grab food and hang out with pals. My friend Annette had suggested checking it out as she was working there that day. My first time stepping into this place was July 14th, 2023 (tomorrow would be 1 year since haha), but I remember it like it was yesterday. I walked in with a mission as I sat on the far right back of the room. I was craving Au Jus and a Roll, so I ordered the Ultimate Beef Dip after a quick look at the menu. The sandwich and roll came out in ~15 min. Nina was waiting tables that day and she was a pleasure to speak with. She had checked on me 2 times. That day, there were 2 other tables there, one large group with 8-10 older ladies and gentlemen to the right closer to the front (that mentioned they met weekly at this spot which was fun) and a couple on the left side of the room, parallel to me. Nina was friendly, helpful, and accommodating (for EVERYONE in the restaurant). She had a smiley and welcoming personality. Which makes me want to go back again haha 7in X 2.5in x 2 French Roll (yes I measured it) I ate the whole thing in 11 bites 300-400 chews per bite. [I invite y'all to close your eyes if when you chew to give your undivided attention to the flavors] Au jus was mwah. Exactly the amount of flavor I was hoping for. Would recommend. Let me start with Maria our waitress. The last few times we have visited on a Sunday for breakfast, I step just inside the doorway to look for Maria's friendly face. Much to our delight when we see her she'll recognize me and wave us to her section as she knows we are there for her! She knows right off the the top that we want ice water, coffee and a dab of cinnamon for our coffee and brings it right over to our table. She is always sure to check on us and her other tables. Her service is superb! Now for our food today. The cook is right on target as the pancakes were so soft, fluffy and cut so smoothe. The waffle with strawberries & bananas was excellent too. The waffle had the right amount of crisp on the outside but light, fluffy and very tasty on the inside. We did get eggs, potatoes and bacon that were good and average. It was delightful to have very good pancakes & waffles. A couple of weeks ago we went to another restaurant and the pancakes were rubbery and chewy so today's breakfast was by far much, much better. Be sure to let the cook and Maria know they are appreciated with their craft of customer service. We'll be back again for sure on another Sunday in the near future. read more

We've been in Orange, for the Junior Olympics (Water Polo). Our first game was at 7am w/ 3 hours until our next match. Needless to say our athletes were starving after winning to advance to the Championship! I was glad to find Orange Cafe Bistro. A place that has been in this community for 30 years. Upon arriving the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, from patrons greeting each other with a, "Good Morning" to our wonderful server Nina. She reconzied it was our first time at the Cafe and immediately made us feel welcome and at home. The Cafe was an intimate size, decorated uniquely all while serving up a sizeable menu. I was pleased to see they offered Sangria as well as other brunch cocktails. Our eggs, and omelettes were cooked to perfection and the turkey bacon substitute was great. I was immediately seated on an early Sunday morning. Easy to find location. Look for the orange awning. Not much parking in a strip mall but it was OK since the businesses around weren't busy. My server was Nina and she was friendly. Decor is bright and and love the diner mural. Their outside patio is nice with a warm heaters. Even the cooks hums the songs playing on the speakers ;) The food is presented nicely. This is elevated Mexican food. The tortilla is extra crispy which remains crunchy throughout the meal. Nice! Found a wonderful little restaurant for breakfast that I thought was new until the waitress told me they've been there for over 30 years. As a long time Orange resident, and a fan of mom & pop establishments, I was surprised I overlooked this gem. While today was only my second visit, I already am on a first name basis with Nina (waitress) and Shawn (owner/chef). They're warm, friendly and very welcoming! While atmosphere and attitude play a part, the food and value needs to be right up there too and Orange Cafe Bistro delivers on both. A Crab Cake Benedict for $18.00 that was really tasty...who does that. The omelettes are very great too. I know I have a lot of choices for breakfast (need to try them for lunch too) but Orange Cafe Bistro has made it to the top of my list. Back for breakfast unfortunately didn't get our favorite waitress, Nina. She's always a joy to have, friendly and sweet. The food didn't seem to hit today, hard potatoes, undercooked pancakes. Went around 10:30am on a Saturday and got seated right away. Decor was an old diner meets brunch cafe kinda look - interesting. Coffee was very no nonsense and simple - nothing fancy. The Bloody Mary came in an old plastic cup with no fixings but the taste was fantastic! Very impressed considering the presentation. We ordered pumpkin pancakes (seasonal) and veggie Benedict. Both were absolutely one of the best we've ever had. I've never had a veggie Benedict but the flavors with the different veggie textures just worked so well! Atmosphere wasn't my favorite but the food and Bloody Mary were enough to bring me back! Ps...service was great, too! read more
