It amazed me to find a restaurant at this part of Brooklyn which serve foie gras! The food tasted great. The service was limited. Enjoyed the food a lot. UPDATE: We went back last weekend for a friend's birthday. I'm happy that things improved, and have accordingly improved the rating, although they still aren't as good as they used to be. Food: The salads and appetizers improved the most. The duck salad got back its tasty dressing, and there was more variety for the same banquet level we ordered, and were disappointed with, last time. But the main meat dish was still disappointing, and with the only other meat option being a tiny piece of veal and carbs being limited, there was not enough food, and especially to support the amount of drinking going on. And the amount of food per guest number is still off, and at least 2 people always didn't get the chance to try something because there wasn't enough for one helping per person. Service: To avoid what happened last time we started the evening by tipping our waiter. He was extremely attentive so that was an improvement but I wouldn't be able to tell you if the service truly improved or was better only because of the extra tip. Entertainment: The music still started very late, just past 10:30. Thankfully this time there were more people so the energy was higher, but after 2.5 hours of drinking and eating, and comparing to how other restaurants do it, it's still too late. The male singer was had a few funny comments during the birthday announcements but neither singer engaged the crowd, just sang what they had to and moved on. ---------- This place used to be one of the better Russian restaurants but lately it's been so disappointing. As little as 6 months ago I would have given it a much higher rating and we ordered a banquet 4x last year because it was so good, but now I will not be booking with Orange Grill. I don't know what happened to their banquet food, which used to be the best. We were at a birthday that ordered the middle-level banquet for 20 people. In summary: it used to be that I'd call Orange Grill my favorite banquet food and I was sorely let down the last time I went. Food and service have changed for the worse. More than likely not returning. Appetizers were slim pickings, lots of olives and cheapy appetizers on the table but only 2 small plates of substantive options (seared tuna, tomato and mozzarella etc.) for all 20 people. The duck salad had so much mustard and gloopy dressing it was inedible (when just 6 months ago it was sweet and one of my favorite salads). Meat was small slices that was so boring and under-seasoned and for some reason after having potatoes and mushrooms they thought people wanted seafood with more potatoes instead of the usual pasta (it was just shrimp and fish so not sure if "seafood" platter is appropriate). And the fruit plates were a huge block of watermelon with tiny kiwi slice on top with berries thrown around, so the variety there is gone too. Service: The music started so late, 10:30, I was nearly sleeping when we finally were able to get up and dance because for 2.5 hours all we had to do was keep eating and drinking. Every time we asked when the music would start they said 20 more mins and then even though it was 10:00 already the singer got rude and dismissed the birthday girl and said, "Don't worry there will be music you can go relax." Once the music did start the performers didn't interact with the crowd or try to get people's energy up even though the crowd was a bit tired by the time the music started. The waitstaff was kind but not particularly attentive even though there wasn't a full house. We constantly had to get their attention and ask to change our plates and refill glasses. read more

Not worth it. Serves little food for so much money. They charge $9 for some lemon to your tap water. Quail dish was mostly rice and burnt quail skin, no quail meat. Sushi bar looked very poor. They don't have desert wine. They also take your coat and then surprise you with a mandatory $6/coat fee for them to surrender it to you. What can I say about this Russian Staple? The food is good. They have a guy and girl singing karaoke style music. The 2 of them need to be retired. Was at an event and he was making ridiculous rude comments and pretty much ruined the entire evening. The girl had zero voice. I have been going to these places for 20 years and never had such awful entertainment. Seriously they need to go. We were thinking about doing our parents anniversary here and closing the place for it but have now changed our minds. Management needs to do something about them. Just awful. read more

This is the worst place to dine. We celebrated the my friends bday, manager -Alexey was very very rude. It was Tuesday night n restaurant was completely empty, there was nobody except for us, yet he didn't want to put the music on, because musicians were not there. We got there at 8.30 pm with group of 12 people, n he told us that he was working at 11 pm thus we will have to leave at 11 pm. What a lovely lunch experience that I enjoyed with my daughter at this well serving joint. Everything was spot on perfect. I had visited at 2pm for a lunch. I ordered the Capri Salad, which had a great presentation and was brought out with their house freshly baked bread. Then I ordered some sushi rolls which was also delightful and very well presented. The waiter was very courteous and informative. My overall experience was very satisfactory and I would reccomend to anyone that would like a nice place to enjoy some well presented and delicious cuisine. read more

This place is a scam. You gonna end up spending a lot of money there but you won't ever get a decent service. Was there last night for a Bday party. First, they pushed me to check my coat for $3. It was mandatory. Lol. Then my friend bought a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. They didn't even bother putting it on the ice. The hot main course came too soon. We were not done with the appetizers. Plus they included a service charge (which is not considered a tip over there). You are supposed to tip extra in addition to paying the service charge. The bottom line: take your money elsewhere. Sushi is one of my favorite foods and I've gotten pretty tired of going to the same ol' spots around the area. How much more of the sushi strip on Sheepshead Bay Road can you possibly handle. I wanted something different with a fancy touch. Orange Grill and their sister restaurant La Vue have been known to make amazing sushi so why not, we wanted to give it a try. The restaurant is very beautiful and elegant inside and you feel like you're embarking on a great food journey. The waitstaff are friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The sushi was absolutely amazing -- probably the best that I have ever had. The rolls are very large and superbly delicious. Don't get alarmed by the noises in the bathroom -- it's just a video of various folk stories. I can't say much about the music, crowd, nighttime mix, etc. since we came here at about 5 p.m. so we were pretty much the only ones in the restaurant with the exception of another one or two tables. I'd definitely like to come back here in the evening some day. It's definitely going to be difficult enjoying sushi elsewhere after Orange Grill. read more

To the manager: Denis, PLEASE do something about this music, it is so loud, people's ears were hurt, and everyone was just saying how unbalanced the music sounds. I heard several people asking both DJ and a male Performer, to just make it little bit lower, instead Singer said "if you dont like it, go somewhere else.There are no old people here". WHO in the world says ??? Regarding food..We ordered banquet menu for 95$/pp .Steak mini Bites were not served,but were supposed to be .Good we didnt raise it up, otherwise it would cause an issue. Waiters, do not rush people into eating so fast!Several guests were outside smoking, when waiters served Potato with mushrooms only to those that were sitting around the table.Those smoking, never got a chance to try it. And the most important thing.I really do like the restaurant, the decorations and overall vibe that this restaurant creates. But please, tell your performers that they can not talk to people in this manner, and also, please make sure that waiters know how to and when to serve food. read more

Possibly the worst dinning experience in my life. First off this place makes, yes MAKES you check your jacket/coat in. When you're done eating you have to pay $3 per jacket to get your jacket back. That to me is extorting money from the customers. They then tell us that we can only eat at the bar and nowhere else. Second the food was mediocre. The sushi nothing to rave about and you can get better sushi from all you can eat places on 86th street. The burger is mediocre also and you can get a better burger from 5 Guys. The greeter/old man telling us that we can only eat at the bar looks at us up and down and decides if we can eat at this establishment. That made me feel very uncomfortable and seemed very racist on his part. So yeah overall this place doesn't even deserve a star and I will not be coming back to this place even if they offered anything for free. read more

Someone here said that unless you are russian, they will not do their best to serve you. I want to correct that person. Unless you come with a big group of friends (KA-CHING), they will not do their utmost to serve you. If they see that it's only two people, they will think Oh it's just a couple, whatever...I left the restaurant hungry on a romantic dinner date with my husband, because an hour after my husband got his steak entree, my patience ended. One of my favorite restaurants. They are Russian, but have a very elective variety of cuisine, from sushi to Mediterranean food, and a full bar including mojitos and margaritas. Also great steak and great dessert. I recommend this place for special occasions. read more

I'm Russian and I dread going to this place. I know a few "off Brighton" girls who insist on celebrating their special occasions so unfortunately there is no way of avoiding this place. Overall its tacky, very overpriced, the food is not that great (neither are the drinks) and the service is spotty. It is also very inconsistent and the location is horrible - nowhere to park, no transit and its near a road that is under constant construction so pulling up to it is a hassle. I dont suggest anyone goes here as it festered with elderly soviet expats, ukranian off the boat girls and j1 students who want to show off. read more

Wow, what a horrible experience we had at Orange Grill... I don't actually know which was worst: the food or the service. There were four (!) waiters and we were the only ones there and completely ignored almost the whole time. My husband had to actually stand up and go to the waiter himself to pay the bill, we just could not wait to get out of there already! The waiters were loudly talking and laughing, talking on their cell phones and throwing jokes around. What happened to professionalism and courtesy? You are trying to get to the level of a decent restaurant so act the part! I think the only people who were really working were the Japanese chefs rolling their sushi and salads. And when it comes to their menu, what a disgrace! It looks good on paper, but these people don't have any idea on how to cook all these expensive dishes... If you've ever had monkfish, you must know that it is an exquisite almost lobster-like fish. Well, the chief completely ruined it by cooking it in the cheapest bread crumbs and pouring what is seemed like a pound of salt on it. All the dishes are swimming in heavy tasting sauces that take away the flavor and texture of pure ingredients. Believe me, we know good restaurants, we have travelled across the US and have had great dining experiences in so many superb restaurants. May be when it first opened Orange Grill was trying to look and act like a decent place, but now with all the clutter at the bar, very lazy waiters and ruined dishes, there is nothing left there. Food is amazing, waiters and bartenders are super sweet, the food is delicious what more do you want? On numerous occassions we took out and people always complemented on the food we got and every time we dined in, it was great. They always aim to entertain and to please, so please check them out for yourselves. Don't take any ones' word for it, but the place is very nice. Most of the staff is russian speaking but they have no problem serving non rusdians, just don't ask for fast food :) this place has class and you'd enjoy every bit of experience! read more

I've only been to Orange Grill for a birthday party on a Saturday night. Food was plentiful, their strength is definately in the banquet appetizers. My only complaint is regarding the music, or rather how LOUD the music is. It's so loud in fact that I come out with ringing ears and I definately cannot hold a conversation with a person sitting right next to me because that requires yelling...REALLY LOUD YELLING. I think venue caters to a younger crowd for their Fri/Sat night party because when I was there there were a lot of drunken 18 year olds celebrating their birthday. Overall, would never host my own event here or come here against my will on a weekend. Perhaps the best bet is to come on a quiet aftenoon for some allegedly good sushi. read more

I had a banquet here for 30 guests. I ordered the $150 banquet. Here is my review : The food : Very good. There sushi is top notch. I didn't get a chance to try all the dishes served but there were zero complaints from the guests. The service: The staff worked very fast and came up to me several times to make sure I was satisfied. The price: No surprises when the bill came. They add on 18% gratuity fee which is normal practice with a party this size. The music: Loud but that comes with the territory. Most Russian restaurants have loud music especially on a Saturday night . If you plan to host a party, I recommend this place. read more

Absolutely disgusting. As someone who lives very close by, I can say they are not sanitary when it comes to the seating that they place outside for days at a time. They will leave utensils and utensil arrangements outside. They take up parking spots illegally with cones, illegally have a valley service that will double sometimes triple park, and leave their dumpsters out on the street which stink up the neighborhood, and also take up spots on the street. How anyone could eat there, is beyond me. They are disgusting and inconsiderate to the neighborhood they are in. read more
