Cute place, love the decor. Who knew an Octopus could look so cute. We stopped here after a nice walk on Siesta Key Beach. Its close by, small shop. Honestly, we didn't get ice cream here, even though we should've. It all look good but we weren't in the mood. The service here is great. All friendly, not pushy about you trying to decide what you want. We came early so there wasn't exactly a large line at the time. We got two smoothies, strawberry and mango. It was made quickly, both delicious. All the small decorations and theme of the Orange Octopus made me love this place. Next time I'm in the area, i'll be sure to get some ice cream. read more

I've been meaning to try this place for months. We finally got around to it today (rain cancelled plans). Sweet, sweet, heavenly ice cream. I was more than pleasantly surprised. When I saw that the sundaes were six bucks each, I automatically assumed "Okay, so one scoop and a bit of each topping." I was wrong. So wrong. My wife ordered the coconut sundae and I ordered the hot fudge sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream. She scooped once, twice, three times, and a little more to top it off. Then she dumped loads of toppings, perfectly swirled the whipped cream, and gently placed a delicious cherry on top. These were A grade sundaes people. I never thought I'd say six bucks for a sundae is a steal, but this place has me convinced. It's an absolute must try for the Siesta area. What a Great little ice cream shop ! The selections are amazing and all of the ice cream is made on premises. While there's not quite as many selections as some of the larger places, the choices they offer are of great quality. They offer several different types of cones, sundaes, shakes and other treats, each one seemingly better than the last. You can't go wrong giving Orange Octopus a try. My only very minor complaint is that I wish they would add a few more options of toppings for the sundaes. Fresh raspberries would be at the top of my list. We're from out of state and make sure to stop here multiple times every time we come to Sarasota. The staff is always so friendly and look like they enjoy working there. Let's be honest, I rarely meet a dessert I don't like, especially when it's ice cream. The two big ice cream spots within walkable distant to where we stayed on Siesta Key are Orange Octopus and Big Olaf's. Orange Octopus was my favorite of the two and the one we visited more frequently. The salted caramel ice cream and chocolate peanut butter shake are the perfect ways to cool down on a warm summer evening. The offer something on the menu (I think they called it Ollie's favorite) consisting of vanilla ice cream and fresh squeezed orange juice. Sounds like it would be deliciously refreshing as a drink....surprise: it's actually a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a dish with fresh orange juice poured over it - a bit hard to eat with the juice running over the side every time you stick the spoon in. read more

My best friend worked here and her mother was one of the managers so that's how I knew about this wonderful shop! The ice cream is made from scratch and I haven't had a flavor I didn't love. My favorite was the pina colada ice cream and I could eat that over and over and never get bored. I also highly recommend the gator tracks, cookies and cream, and pretty much any flavor they have there :) It's a shame my friend moved and doesn't work here anymore as she used to bring us ice cream from here all the time and it was delicious every time! Tasty ice cream and an assortment of flavors n toppings. Not quite as nice as say Cold Stone but not quite as expensive either. There r candies and novelty candies and such as well for the kiddies (like Big Leage Chew, suckers, wax lips, etc). Like virtually every othe place in Sarasota there is virtually no parking and all the lots r always full. They accept cash or credit (Big Olaf down the way only accepts cash. I mean come on!) Tried big olafs, ciao and the other organic gelato place in village, and while all those were very, very good - this place was the best by a mile which was great because it was a quick walk from our rental. Had it 4 times on our trip. Flavors were outstanding, people are so nice, but the ice cream is the star. All made in house by ownership, it's definitely the best ice cream in town. Best ice cream I've had, and I've had a lot of ice cream from a lot of different locations. With 24 flavors to choose from, I went with a scoop of Toasted Coconut, and a scoop of Strawberry Cheesecake in a cup. Both were amazing. A scoop is about 1/3 cup. The flavors really show through, as opposed to many other places I've tried that are just very sweet, and hard to distinguish between. Will definitely be back to try more. We went here twice this week. My kids love this place. The ice cream is great. My son loves the Superman flavor. I love the toasted coconut ice cream and the pina colada ice cream which is made with coconut milk. That works better for me. It is softer than the other flavors but excellent.
