Came here for a Yelp event but also purchased a couple of items on my own dime to try as well. So I say 4 stars for overall experience and food because their appetizer or snacks especially the fried mushrooms and fried chicken was really good and the bento main dish was good sides were just ok. The taro balls were also good but hearty so I think I over ordered on the pieces. The drinks were ok, made the mistake of ordering the super lemon with less sugar expecting I guess a more mild sweet version. So don't be like me when it says super lemon it's super lemon. Other than that go for the snacks try and see if you find a drink you like. It seems like the watermelon is popular! read more

I've only been here for the bogo drinks happy hour and I think it's a good deal. Got the mango slushy and taro milk with taro chunks (I think it's just milk, no tea). I like the mango at 50% sweet and because of the milk, taro can be sweeter at 75%. read more

Popcorn chicken on the saltier side. Definitely grabbed for water after first bite. Docked a star for that but otherwise a diverse menu of both food and drinks. Portions are very generous on the rice plate, there were 2.5 full size pork chops altogether. Most likely leave with some leftover. Let me first say that I am the type of person who enjoys having vegetables every meal and this bento (combination lunch boxes) really hits it home for my wife and me. I have tried a few places all touted as Chinese Bentos and yes they are all fairly decent but at Orange Square, they definitely make a deliberate effort to create a healthier version of Bentos which I really really appreciate. Despite the yummy protein, I can definitely see myself eating Bentos here regularly without having to worry about eating vegetables afterward. Onto the food itself: Pot-Roasted Beef Brisket Square Bento: 5/5 Authenticity to ones made in Taiwan is 100. The beef is cooked with a stew combined with daikon. The broth in the stew is a mix of carrot in sweetness and a blend of beef, the broth would be great even if you mix it with your rice in itself. Five Spices Fried Chicken Steak Square Bento: 4/5 How this is fried is very important for this dish. Unfortunately, it was slightly over-fried but the breading was perfect which made it still taste great for my wife. The side dishes are identical for both Bentos and the attention to detail on the seasoning is second to none. The drinks here I can't really rave on, they tasted pretty good but it is not something you can't get in your favorite local boba store. Lastly, the atmosphere is pretty refreshing. The restaurant itself is pretty clean and well maintained. Although it doesn't have fancy decore, we liked it. Last, it has a wall made for check-ins with a store logo in case you have had a good experience, we have seen a few people taking photos in front of it. After being exhausted by car dealerships for the past three days, I was starved for some solid food. Grace "graced" me with a warm hospitality when I strolled in and ordered myself a tofu curry box; Imagine yourself walking into a fancy department store and the cashier wraps your luxury item in gift wrapping paper and a sturdy beautiful box that you couldn't bear to toss away-- this was the experience I've received when gifted with my delicious tofu curry box! The restaurant is very clean and aesthetic, and when I went in the afternoon there was only one other person eating there. The chicken leg was very tasty, but the sides not as much. I'm glad there were vegetables though so I felt healthier. It was a little hard to eat the chicken since they only give plastic utensils, so I had to be careful not to break them while trying to get the meat off the chicken bone. My mom got the pork bowl and thought it was standard. Huge plus was that they played really good music (BTS, Taylor Swift, Halsey, etc.). You definitely will not miss this Orange Square restaurant. With its bright store front sign on homestead rd located in the corner from the outside street with plenty of parking space makes this appealing to the eye of any onlookers trying to figure out what is an Orange Square. I enjoyed finding new restaurants that are popping up in the Bay Area and came across this restaurant on the list when searched on yelp for hot new businesses. I've decided I must try this place plus I wanted to support small business too during these hard times. I love when a menu is straight to the point and give as much detail of what the food you will be getting and their menu did just that. There were so many good food items I wanted to try but decided to stick with the ones that resonated with me of Taiwanese food. I ordered the braised pork belly square, golden egg yolk taro ball, and a classic boba milk tea. The braised pork belly did not disappoint it was a very good portion sized and came with a good amount of sauce it was cooked in. In the square box of braised pork belly it came neatly with utensils, veggies, pickled veggies, and rice. The taro ball was amazing as well. It was crunchy in the outside and sweet in the inside. Finally the classic boba milk tea did not disappoint although I need to remember to ask for less sweet because I was all sugared up. Overall, I will be coming back to try other food items that are offered. Everything that I ordered met my expectations of what Taiwanese food is. Support our local business! I was super excited hearing that orange square was opening up close by but quite disappointed. I got the beef stew which they only gave me 5 small pieces of beef ( zoom into the picture, you'll see NOTHING) so that was 15$ down the drain. The other item we ordered was vegetable curry which took an extra 25 minutes and the vegetables were still hard. The crispy chicken was pretty good though. And I ordered brown sugar boba milk tea and it came with jelly bits but no boba. Luckily tancha opened up across the street. So overall it was around a 40 minute wait. Another big concern was the packaging. It was a HUGE waste. Once you open the box, there's a container in that box. With that container, there is a lid rubber banded and under the lid is foil. I'm not a activist on pollution/littering but even I know that's very wasteful. Not sustainable option for food packaging. 4 meals and one drink came out to 80$. Not sure if it's cheap to y'all but I wouldn't pay this amount for this place again. I'll try again in a few months. read more

Love this spot for a bento lunch special! The bento boxes come with a main protein (in my case it's grilled chicken leg) and a few fun side dishes! The service was a bit slow since it looked like they had a lot of delivery/pickup orders, but overall the workers were nice so no real complaints. The food was alright, but we waited long enough that the popcorn chicken was cold by the time I ate it, but it tasted great after throwing it in an air fryer for a few minutes. I wish they cut the fried tofu into smaller pieces. The grilled squid was good too. The chicken leg bento was alright, but I wish I could just order the chicken leg by itself without the bento. I was able to get a free drink with points and tried their fruit drink which I felt was 70% fruits and 30% actual liquid but it tasted fine. Really good place to grab lunch or some snacks. I had food from Orange Square delivered through DoorDash at work and thought that the food was pretty tasty. I ordered the braised chopped pork rice bowl as well as the popcorn chicken, and even though it was delivered, there was still some crispiness to the popcorn chicken and the food was relatively warm. I thought the braised chopped pork rice bowl had a ton of flavor and I really liked that the sauce got into the rice so every bite had that amazing sauce. The pork was super tender as well. The popcorn chicken was pretty good - it reminded me of typical popcorn chicken. Overall I liked the food and would gladly come back! read more

Pot roasted meal was good, not salty nor sugary. Simple! But there was only few pieces of beef there most of the other piece was the other parts of the animal not the actual meat. But the radishes was tasty! Not sure if I gave a good representation of this main dish. But the rest of the squares was good, the fried bean curd was good too! The classic milk tea was like most milk tea in the Bay Area average. The tea needs to be stronger. So far the best thing is the packaging of the meal, well designed and portion of the meal was enough for me. Service was good. Here's a question for you all was the amount of food was it worth the price? Or am I really just paying for the packaging? First time trying this restaurant. The food was really good, well packaged. In fact, the packaging was cute and the food was divided into compartments with star shaped veggies. We ordered the flavored curry tofu and it was delicious. The tofu was fried and crispy, sauce was spicy, and lots of side vegetables. The crispy golden chicken cutlet was also really good and I loved the seasoning that came with it. The tea egg was also well made. We enjoyed every aspect of our order. We also got the lychee jasmine milk tea and the taro milk tea. Both were delicious. The lychee milk tea had chunks of lychee fruit and the taro had taro chunks. I was looking for a new place to try and had seen Orange Square when I drove by on Homestead. Finally decided to pick up a few things to bring home and try them out knowing that bringing stuff home does reduce the quality of how the food tastes, but it was the most convenient way to eat. I will start by the fact that their presentation was awesome. But I felt it was an eco-waste of extra packaging as I got the little cardboard boxes outside of the standard Bento box packaging. While I understand, it's probably easier to put in bags that way, I didn't appreciate the unnecessary use of packaging. But like I said, the presentation was good and so it was promising. They packaged it well with rubber bands, holding the lids on so that it could travel safely. Upon getting home I started in on snacking on the braised pork over rice appetizer that I bought. Despite looking OK , the food was very bland. Not a good time, considering it's one of my favorite Taiwanese dishes. Also, picked up a pork chop over rice and fried chicken over rice. The fried chicken was rated higher online than the pork chop but at that point the pork chops sounded better but upon trying them, I think they're fried chicken is deserved as it was quite good , the pork chop, however, looked like it was covered in soy sauce and just really dark, not really as attractive as I had expected a Taiwanese pork chop over rice to be. Overall though the flavor was a bit bland and disappointing. I was really hoping to find a new Taiwanese place to go but I don't think this place is it. We went here recently late at night, and the first thing of note was that they were pretty slow with our order. There was nobody else there, and we were told 5-10 minutes, so we went outside to wait. When we went back in after the 10 mins, it was clear they still hadn't started, and only did after seeing us. This wasn't too big of a deal since we didn't actually end up waiting for that long; just a little strange. As for the boba itself, it was decent! I got the peach (don't remember the exact name), but it was creamy, not too sweet, and the peach flavor was strong but not artificial. My friend's drink wasn't as good though; she got the normal black tea boba, and there was such a lack of tea flavor. It tasted like they had gotten to the dredges of their tea for the day, dumped some water in, let it sit for a minute, and made boba with that. BF and I noticed Orange Square while we were in the plaza across the street and we definitely had to try it once they opened. The first time we came here we tried the grilled fresh salmon salad, basil popcorn chicken, and the winter melon lemon aiyu. We're glad we shared the salad because their bento boxes are quite large, so you're getting a great deal! The salmon wasn't dry, the dressing paired really well, and the veggies were fresh and crisp with every bite. The popcorn chicken wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but the winter melon lemon aiyu was very refreshing and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Made my order here on yelp it was ready for pick up in about 15 minuets. It was a larger order for several people. Did not eat inside restaurant but it looked fine nothing particularly stood out, clean and orderly. I had the deluxe braised pork bowl. Absolutely delicious! Pork was literally melt in your mouth and all together with the sausage, rice, veggies, and tea leaf eggs(hard boiled marinated eggs) I was in HOG HEAVEN. I also got a side order of popcorn chicken, excellent. With sweet and sour sauce. They also have great tea drinks and specialty drinks like bubble tea and milk tea.
