It's always an unfortunate experience when the reviews rave about something and the product doesn't quite hit the mark. We ordered the mango hoijcha and the milk tea espresso. The mango hoijcha was not good by any means... in fact it was really bad in both flavor and texture. What we thought would be fresh mango purée turned out to be a packaged mango syrup with artificial mango flavoring. This didn't mix well with the milk tea and ended up looking like curdled milk. The mango syrup was so overpoweringly sweet that it honestly was inedible. We threw the drink away after one sip. The milk tea espresso was more palatable but lacked any real flavor. I'm sure there are some good things on the menu but was sorely disappointed that 2 of the drinks you're marketing as the most popular items were regrettable. On a positive side, the staff were really nice. I wish we tasted our drinks before we left so we would've had an opportunity to exchange them instead of throwing them away. read more

My sister found this steamed buns cooking class on ClassBento.com and decided she wanted to do it for her and her fiancé's joint bachelor/bachelorette activity! We were a group of 10 and everything was set up for us when we arrived. It was about $70 per person, and we were given a free drink (I chose a strawberry matcha latte with oat milk which was perfect for a caffeine boot) and told we had 20% off anything in the store. We did end up taking up the entire 2 hour slot, and a little bit more time. This was a really fun experience and we were taught how to make different shapes (turtles, hedgehogs, whales, roses) with a little bit of dough, yeast and water (+optional fillings). We had excellent instructors and we were able to take our steamed buns home. I definitely would add a little bit more salt for flavor next time. Love this space! It has such a warm and cozy vibe and a pretty extensive drink menu- I've probably tried 6 different drinks and all of them have been tasty. You can tell they have put a lot of heart and soul into the space. I especially love that it's part of their mission to empower women-owned small businesses and they offer a lot of engaging classes like ceramics/calligraphy/social workshops and events. Lots of parking available in the plaza! The cafe itself is tucked away in the corner of the plaza and has it's own yoga studio that is very popular from what I've seen. This is a very interesting cafe. It has large piles of merch for sale (Jiaren branded notebooks, boba keychains), a random "free stuff" box full of abandoned junk, and two massive tables in the middle for their various classes (I saw ads for lattes and cookie decorating). There's a small kiosk for ordering boba and no seating for boba customers. When there's a class going on, there's almost no place to stand, either. They also sell Kimchi (which might be made in-house?) and pastries. I got a black sesame and ube milk with boba at 25% sugar with almond milk. I got it because I hadn't seen that combination before. It cost around $8. The sweetness level was perfect for me. It was a very deep purple color and I'm not sure it was real ube. The instructor broke down the instructions into easy-to-follow steps and gave us plenty of time to practice, ask questions, and get feedback before trying the art with milk instead of water. Parking is very easy but with a farmers market on Saturday on the street next to it, it can be very difficult to get out of the lot. I think the service is definitely one of their strong points, probably some of the best customer service I've gotten from a Boba shop. And as far as the atmosphere of the shop goes, it seems like a really nice artistic place to go sit down and have a good conversation with someone. although this is where my review of positivity ends and I have to get to the hard part, the things that keep me from wanting to go back. I have to say you could have the best customer service and the best looking shop but if the product you sell to me is subpar in my opinion, I won't be returning. Usually, I like to give a place two or three tries, but I've only given this place two tries and both times I've been deeply disappointed with the quality of tea I've received. My review of the Matcha is it mostly taste like what I can describe as soy milk and fish oil leaving me to wonder where the flavor of Matcha is at. I don't have high expectations for Matcha in the United States, but I don't know if this Matcha could even call itself Matcha, if doable I would ask the shop owner changes the recipe of Matcha or perhaps the Matcha they use. As far as the Yuzu cold brew latte goes, I just will tell it how it is, it tasted terrible. I had one sip and had to immediately spit it out, leaving my girlfriend with utter confusion as to why I looked so disgusted after taking a sip, well curiosity killed the cat so they say, and she took a sip as well resulting in the same reaction. The flavor could only be described as something rotted, maybe like spoiled milk, or spoiled orange juice. I do have hope for this location perhaps if they up the quality of their tea or at least the teas I have tried. I've taken 2 of their courses (the resin board workshop and the pottery workshop) and they've both been amazing!! The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly and it's small enough where it feels intimate. Plus, all of the attendees are super friendly! Some things I really appreciate about this place is that they have unique, non-caffeinated drinks (which are surpisingly not easy to find) such as black sesame milk and ube milk, and you can also order ahead of time to pick up your drink later ! When this place first opened, as I used to work quite close to it, I came here in the morning for some coffee/tea and reading. It has a lot of lighting and is very bright, with a handful of seating. However, because of its brightness it does not give the coziest ambiance - it gives a cute one though. In any case, during the summer, I like ordering their non-caffeinated drinks in the afternoon. I came here for the latte art class on a Sunday with my husband! We got here about 10 minutes early and checked in with Jaden at the checkout counter. The class is 1 hour long, and comes with a guided lesson, all the tools you need for practice, and the chance to pour 2 lattes with real ingredients. Jaden will guide you the whole time so don't worry if you're nervous! You get the learn how to make a heart design and a tulip design, one is caffinated and the other decaf. It's a lot of liquid to drink yourself, but at the end of the class you have the opportunity to turn it into a to-go drink and add any additional creamer or boba! Throughout the class you also get some pastry snacks and lots of breaks, so it's perfect if you enjoy taking photos and videos throughout. The hour flies by so fast because you are always practicing and preparing yourself to try the real deal. For the public class price at $70 I initially thought this was a bit expensive, but this was actually the best deal I could find. Other packages I found in SF are generally $100+ or offer private classes only, so this was actually the cheapest if you want to do a latte art. Jaden is super friendly and helpful throughout the class, I had a great time learning from her! I love that she will very carefully guide you when you are pouring so even if you are nervous, you will at least have the opportunity for some nice pictures of your creations. I think this class is the perfect activity for a solo or friend group experience! Personally I would not recommend a first date because you will be very focused throughout the class and there is not much chance for intimate conversation. But it's perfect for going with someone you already at least a little bit about and would have fun comparing your barista skills. read more
