I've been going to Orchard's for over a decade, multiple times a week, sometimes twice a day. The food is good. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. What butcher shop can you go to, pick something out and have it cooked for you? They average 316 customers a day through there doors. The owners constantly engaging with their customers. Every on duty cop and firefighter in the immediate area eats there. About 5 times as many who are off duty frequent there. You'll run into local business owners, elected officials, your attorney, doctor, dentist there. You may run into a local TV reporter if they're doing a story on this end of town at Orchard's. Retired and current NFL players eat there. I encourage all to go there (Except David K.). read more

Went to get some sandwiches Sunday (May 1st at noon) My wife placed the order and asked for a french roll on her pulled pork sandwich, when we got home, guess what? It was on a hamburger bun, now my wife was not very happy, but we weren't going to drive back only to be told sorry, I'll fix it!!! About a month ago, I went in and picked the Wagu (I think this is how it is spelled) steak, cost of $46.85 and had them cook it for me MEDIUM RARE!!! Look at my other yelps they have always cooked it just the way I ordered it MEDIUM RARE, took my order home, place it on the counter, loaded up the DVD Open Range and grabbed a beer out of the frig, placed it on the end table, placed my steak on a platter, got the fork and knife, walked over sat down, started the DVD and took a sip of beer, then I cut into my steak and noticed a little resistance, when I cut all the way through it, guess WHAT? It was not MEDIUM RARE!!! I cut other areas of the steak and it was the same... I was not happy, and I am the type who will not drive back and kick up a fuss, it just isn't worth the trouble. So I tossed it into the trash and made hot dogs... I am not happy with these now two incidents... One more wrongly cooked steak and it's back to Black Angus for me. When my wife and I were there, I remember seeing several youngsters bringing the food out from the kitchen and two different customers walked back in with something wrong with their order, and believed I saw the Boss out front sitting with a customer talking. Each and every time that I have had them cook my steak MEDIUM RARE it was and INCREDIBLE eating experience, but the last one was not!!! I remember talking to Tyrell whom I purchased my steak from, and told him to have them cook it MEDIUM RARE, that time there was a thin pink line probably the thickness of a sheet of paper... I am pretty much known by some, once I say MEDIUM RARE. So if you read your Yelps, and see me the next time, PLEASE, don't say anything to me about what POSSIBLY COULD HAVE GONE WRONG, just make sure it does not happen again, for $46.85 plus the fee to cook it, insuring that it does not happen again, that is all I am looking for, is my steak properly cooked to my request of MEDIUM RARE. read more

First Visit to New Location. A whole 1/4 mile closer. The new location looks great. Clean ample with plenty of indoor dining space (not in use due to pandemic). Meat selection is ample. Variety in sausages. The brauts and the andouille are my fav. One of the few butcher shops that has hanger steaks. My advice let them season for you with a good Santa Maria rub. The deli has the must have salads and the soda selection is not as large as before but it's adequate keeping in mind not a soda shop. If you want to eat at the location there are outdoor tables and during the weekend an additional ez-up or two go up. This is not a chain store so if you want a friendly quality local business to support stop by. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! This is a great lunch spot with a deli and BBQ plates. I also really like their salads. They make everything fresh so it is a little bit of a wait to get your food but so worth it! The other great thing about this spot is the meat counter, great quality meat that is locally raised in California. Harris ranch steaks are the best! read more

Best Fresh Fish in Whittier, they just need to advertise it like the Butcher counter. Otherwise without looking closely you wouldn't know it. They keep it wrapped so we've never got a bad Filet of Halibut, our favorite! If they are out could be cause we just left. Call ahead.... read more

I live down the street from this place but never had the chance to give it a shot, until today. Ordered: Tri tip chili cheese fries Pulled pork sandwich Verdict(s): Tri tip chili cheese fries were okay. You can't tell the difference if it's tri tip or regular ground beef, other than the texture; besides that, the chili overpowers any flavor the meat may have received from smoking it. Ordering a small for $3.50, I expected a small order, and it was, but good enough to make you full. Pulled pork sandwich was also okay. You can definitely get the smoky flavor, but it was also lacking salt. The coslaw it came with was very good, and tried to make up for the lack of seasoning on the meat, but didn't quite do the job. They serve bbq sauce on the side, and it's definitely homemade. I always appreciate homemade sauce and this one was good. The bread it comes with fell apart and I ended up just eating the pork and coslaw with a fork. Why only 4 stars: I asked two employees what wood they smoke their meat with and neither knew the answer. I thought they went to the back to ask the chef, but that was that. No answer given. That was pretty disappointing. Overall, for a little more than $10, you get some good bbq. I will be back. read more

Plant nursery on the outside, full service deli and grill on the inside. They post the lunch specials by the road and it took me a while to realize that inside the shrub covered storefront lies an eatery, and a dam good one at that. Good selection of indie sodas as well, lots of bbq and other roast sandwiches and lunch specials near or under the $10 mark. Definitely worth the visit if you're nearby. My husband and I have been eating low carb lately and were looking for a grilled meat option for dinner. We have never been to Orchards but it's near our house so we gave it a try. We ordered a lettuce wrapped cheese burger, the ribs and a half chicken. The burger was yummy. It reminded me of a backyard bbq style burger but better. It had a nice char and it was cooked a perfect medium, pink on the inside just how I like it. The lettuce wrap was a major mess but the burger was worth it. My husband ate the ribs and really enjoyed them. I'm not a fan of ribs but the bite I had was juicy. The chicken was so tender and moist. The meat wasn't super flavorful but it definitely had a Smokey flavor and with the bbq sauce paired well. I put some hot sauce on it and it was delicious. Coleslaw and broccoli salad was so good! Seriously some tasty sides. We'll be ordering bigger portions next time! read more

This Spot Is A Hidden Gem and From What I Had Read About the Restaurant on Yelp I Was Excited To Try their Food. When You Enter they have a section where you can select Different Meats from their Deli Including Ground Beef, Steaks, Deli Meats, etc. You can order different items like Tri Tip and Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Boar's Head Deli Sandwiches, etc. Also you can choose from sides like Fruit Salad, Red Skin Potato Salad, Steak Fries, Macaroni and Cheese, and much much more. The possibilities are endless! I decided to get the Tri Tip sandwich with a side of mild BBQ sauce and Steak fries with a soft drink. My daughter ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of BBQ sauce and Macaroni and Cheese with an IBC Root Beer. Soooo good. We devoured our food since it was so good. This is a unique business with a butcher shop and deli. From the parking lot, you will pass the patio seating before entering the market with the deli. The decor is really cute, although it's a bit random. In the patio, there are umbrellas with tables and chairs to help keep you cool and shaded, and several benches to sit on. It is DOG FRIENDLY, and my dog was able to have a small birthday party here. I talked to some of the sweet patrons who stopped by my table to wish my dog a happy birthday. Everybody was SO nice. The prices at the deli are extremely affordable. We ordered the butcher burger, and the patty was thick and juicy - they do not skimp out on the meats! The sausage sandwich was savory with a light spicy kick. To be honest, I thought the potato salad was a bit bland. We also had steak fries, which were fresh and seasoned. The indoor seating area looks comfortable and clean, but we didn't spend too much time in the market. Aside from fountain sodas, they also offer old fashion sodas on bottle (green apple, grape, cream) in the refrigerator. They also have a collection of vintage-style candies for sale. There is an orchard connected to the market with some cute backgrounds for photo ops. My little dog was getting hot so had to go home earlier than I wanted, but I'll definitely be back with my dog for another burger! read more

Orchards is alright. Not sure why they get such a high 4.5 rating. I got the tri-tip sandwich for lunch and it doesn't have much meat for what I paid ~$10 for. The sandwich was small and the tri-tip was chewy and bordering semi-dry. If I return, I'll most likely avoid ordering food from the smoker other than the pulled pork sandwich. If not that, I will get food from the grill, from the deli, or chili items section such as a cheeseburger, sandwich, or chili cheese dog. -------------------------------------------------- QUICK TIPS: -------------------------------------------------- # I don't think Orchards is skilled at smoking meats. I think you're better off ordering from the grill, deli, or a chili item. I'm sure a cheeseburger, chili cheese dog, and sandwich would be good choices for lunch. # I didn't like my tri-tip sandwich for the ~$10 I paid. It was small and chewy. Deli sandwiches are excellent, and their butcher has excellent looking cuts of meat, albeit a bit pricey. Their BBQ, while it is tasty, I must admit is nothing to write home about. I have yet to try their burgers, or anything else from the grill. Their tri tip is tasty, but again, I'm sure we have all found better BBQ spots for low and slow pork butt or brisket. Sides leave a bit to be desired. Nothing bad about them, but a bit bland and in need of a little extra seasoning. read more

We have been buying take out there for quite some time, and my Wifey has been picking it up. We went for one of their Charitable events, and I think we will be going more often. Its a great local place, family owned, the food is fantastic. I don't know everyone there, but it sure seems like a lot of the people are regulars, so I'm hoping to see some of the NFL games there and it becomes our go to spot. The food size is really ample, go hungry or plan on having some as a second meal or late night snack. My Wifey tried the fish and chips, and she hasn't tried something new. I'm looking forward to a nice dinner and the fixings. Their beer, and soda selection is fantastic, and the staff is very friendly and happy. I'm sure if you ask for a braking news, or request a Team or a game, if they have it I think they would put it up, quite a few TVs. Fantastic place to get your meat, poultry, and seafood. Everything is awesomely fresh and the service is unparalleled. I recall that the Mr. and I went searching for some seafood to grill some time ago and every local market just had horrible selections. We called Orchard's on a whim, even though they weren't supposed to be open. However, the butcher/fishmonger not only answered the phone, but said that we were more than welcome to come in. You couldn't ask for better service or quality. As for a fresh Thanksgiving turkey, do order it from here. They offer Shelton Farms turkeys and they are way worth it. They even offer 2 types of brine for a small cost. Even picking up your turkey is effortless. It's worth to note that Orchard's is renovating and will open up their own steak house in early 2015. The produce section is no longer, which is okay since they are going to focus on what they do best. The fantastic deli and meat/poultry/seafood section still remain, so you can still get your made to order bbq sandwiches and tasty sides. Of course, don't forget to pick up a soda from their fridge.
