My wife and I come here regularly for special occasions, whether it be a date night, holiday, or birthday. The reason we always choose Oregon club is because it's a special place that never disappoints. This past week we dined and had another incredible meal. We were sad the crab cakes were no longer a menu staple (best crab cake I've ever had) but got lucky as it was an appetizer special. We ordered 2 because they are unbelievable. The special meal of the night was Louisiana matrimony, which was a grilled catfish with shrimp and rice. It was remarkable. My wife ended the evening with the chocolate mouse which she is obsessed with. Another 10/10 meal. Best spot in the state! read more

Like you're eating at your grandmothers home, in the best way! All food was delicious. I am used to southern cuisine but as a first time in Boston, I was very happy with the results. Staff felt like your sweet Aunt who's so happy You're there to visit. The main eating area did get a little loud as it's an open room but that's all part of the experience. read more

We stumbled upon this place as the Natick/Framingham area is a cultural wasteland of chain restaurants and otherwise ho hum wastes of calories. It's oddly in an actual neighborhood of houses ... a product of its former association as a 1920's speakeasy, which served pasta and steak in the front and bootlegged liquor in the back. My first impression was not a good one. Upon walking in, it smelled like an antique store and just did not look clean. It was a bit cluttered and just didn't give you the vibe that it was somewhere that was routinely scrubbed and dusted. To make matters worse, we were seated directly under a furry taxidermy deer head (wearing a Red Sox hat). Beyond the morbid connotation of eating under a severed animal head ... I couldn't help wondering if fur/dust might be falling down onto my plate. Once I settled in and blocked this out, things got a lot better. The overall vibe is casual. There is no 'theme' here ... I was expecting 1920's velvet wallpaper and silk lampshades. The music they play is from the 1970's and it really is a very good soundtrack that sets a fun vibe. Few restaurants get this ... and I'd put the overall music played up there with Craigs in LA and PJ Clarke's in NYC. The food is the star of the show. In particular, the steaks. The appetizers were great ... the mushroom soup (a specialty) is not the cream-based soup I was expecting. It is a beef consume with chopped mushrooms and some spicy peppers. It was excellent. The salad with goat cheese and strawberry was also well received. The steaks are done in a cast iron pan, which gives them a little salty seared crust. They are seasoned well and flavorful. I highly recommend either of the steaks on the menu. We had them both ... the bigger one being my favourite. Dessert was the only miss of the night. Strawberry shortcake. The biscuit's starchy blandness sucked all of the flavour out of the strawberries and the whipped cream added little to the mix. I'd skip the shortcake. The chef clearly knows what he/she is doing as the food was all cooked perfectly and the flavour profile (minus the dessert) was spot on. The drinks were also great ... with many creative selections on the menu. I wasn't as thrilled about the glasswear. Drinking a cocktail out of a mason jar isn't my cup of tea. The waitstaff is utterly perfect. Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu itself offers a lot of variety and a little something for everyone. I would say that the many glowing reviews are justified. While I would have liked a little more 1920's theme, we felt comfortable (minus the giant animal head) and there was ample parking outside. We will likely do the patio outside the next time we are here ... which we hope is soon. Highly recommend The Oregon Club, I haven't had a meal this delicious in a long time. Far exceeded my expectations. The Oregon club is a hidden gem in a cozy, nature surrounded location. The atmosphere is an intimate, casual dining with several rooms of seating. The service was excellent and the food even better. We started with the mushroom soup (a classic at this establishment), duck confit, Caesar salad, and calamari. The duck dish and mushroom soup were my favorites, definitely don't miss these! For entrees, the veal special for me, beef borguignon, and bolognese for the rest of the table. The veal chop was delicious, cooked perfectly so that the fat melts in your mouth. The bolognese was traditionally made, without red sauce and the beef borguignon was equally as tasty. Dessert! I chose crème brûlée and a tawny port, while the others ordered blueberry crumble and chocolate mousse. All perfect desserts to end a perfect meal. read more

Old-School Charm & A Steak My Husband Won't Stop Talking About Oregon Club totally delivered on the cozy, character-filled experience we were hoping for. Tucked away in the MetroWest area, it's got that "if you know, you know" charm--unassuming, historic, and refreshingly no-frills. We made a reservation for a Friday night in July and showed up 15 minutes late (whoops), but they still had our table ready--plus it looked like there were plenty of open tables, so no stress there. Food: * The mushroom soup? Comfort in a bowl. * The wedge salad came pre-cut (bonus points for saving me from wrestling iceberg). * I had the Gorgonzola meatloaf, hearty and satisfying. * But the real star was the dish they are most known for: pan-seared steak--perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and something he's now brought up... multiple times a day. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Our server was friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed learning a bit about the 1920s history. So why not five stars? Two small knocks: 1. They forgot the lemon with my Diet Coke. 2. The crème brûlée looked great but was unfortunately flavorless. Still, this was a standout experience overall, and we can't wait to go back. The Oregon Club: the good, the bad, the ugly. This past weekend, my wife and I went to the Oregon Club for the fourth or fifth time, hopeful that it would be at least as good as our past experiences. Sadly, it was not to be, and we may not be back. We were seated in a timely fashion; it was a beautiful night, so we again opted to eat outside. My seat faced the house, directly facing the exterior of the building which had grimy dirt directly in front of me; I had apparently not noticed this on prior occasions. Not appetizing; couldn't the owners spend a few bucks to power wash the facade? Okay, we decided to split an onion soup, a Caesar's salad and the steak with mashed potatoes and spinach. Added a side of focaccia bread (for $7). Diet coke for me, a martini for her. The onion soup came out first along with the diet coke. No martini. The onion soup was fine. Bread was meh and not worth $3 never mind $7. The diet coke tasted like poison, and I requested a ginger ale instead. The main course came out. Still no martini which we again requested. The mashed were good. However, the steak (which I had ordered on previous visits), while being a good cut, was so overly salted that it was barely edible. The spinach was even worse: so salty that it was truly inedible. We really should have sent it back, wish we had. Also, asked for ketchup which they don't have. Should have brought my own. Is there something wrong with a restaurant having ketchup? Had the Creme Boulet for dessert: best part of the whole disappointing experience. The whole subpar experience wasn't cheap either: well over $100 for sharing a very inconsistent meal. I looked over the past reviews and saw a few comments regarding the saltiness of the food and the cleanliness of the building and it seems nothing has changed. I hope I'm wrong, but my sense is that the proprietors of this restaurant just want to do things their way, period. read more

Our party of five has been here before and expect to return. Al fresco dining was not available as the weather was too chilly and the nice patio does not appear to have heat lamps. We were promptly seated inside, which looks like a cross between a house and an inn. The Oregon Club dates back to 1922, when it was in fact the Briasco Inn, which also operated as a speakeasy. It became a members only club in 1933, and finally the restaurant it is today. * Appetizers included salads and the taco appetizer special. All were completely consumed, and all five diners thought they were good. * Mixed Green Salad: A mixture of baby greens with tomatoes, red onion, sliced apples and red wine vinaigrette * Classic Caesar Salad: Crispy romaine hearts with croûton, anchovies, shaved Romano and classic creamy Caesar dressing * Judy's Favorite Salad: Chopped romaine with croûtons, spicy pecans, crumbled blue cheese, dried cranberries and roasted garlic dressing * Taco Appetizer Special Dinners included: * The Steak: 12oz Pan Seared Sirloin served with mashed potato, vegetable and a veal demi glaze * Seared Salmon Fillet: Served with cauliflower puree and baby arugula with an orange fennel vinaigrette * Beef Bourguignon: Fan favorite! Tender slow cooked beef in veal stock with aromatic vegetables, mushrooms and red wine. Served with mashed potatoes. My steak was good, ordered medium rare, cooked a little past that point but substantial and tasty. The other diners also seemed to enjoy their entrees, there were no complaints. Three desserts were ordered including strawberry shortcake, their version of a chocolate mousse, and something else which I didn't recognize or care for, some type of fruit and chocolate. Overall, the service was very good, and we enjoyed our dinner. This is a good local restaurant, which I particularly enjoy in the warmer weather when they serve outside. My husband was served raw pork, and when we pointed it out, the same meat was re-cooked and brought back still raw, with raw juices contaminating the sides. This is a serious food safety concern. My steak ordered medium rare was also rare. Very disappointing experience. read more

Went here just for a tiny meal to just kill some time. I saw that everyone liked the mushroom soup (I think it was called that) so I had that and it was excellent. After that it was all downhill the olives were just terrible and same with the scallops I don't know what was wrong with them but they weren't very good. The shrimp were also good but I only had those couple things and I think they're mainly known for their good soup and steak. When we drove here we were anxious to go in because were in the middle of the woods and the building looks very old and fancy but we just walked in with casual clothes and after we got seated it was fine. This place has really cute ambiance. I went without knowing where we were going, and I was pretty over-dressed. It's a semi-casual place. It has a speakeasy vibe and that old-timey house vibe. The rosemary prosciutto gnocchi was to die for! "The steak" was huge - it did have a decent amount of fat, but I think that was just the cut. The flavor was amazing. I also ordered it "chef's choice" and I think it was cooked perfectly. The mashed potato's were addicting and the green beans were cooked perfectly. The service was also amazing. I did not take pics of the food, I can say it looked amazing when it came out. They did a fantastic job. We started with the calamari, thought it was going to be deep fried, wasn't but was delish! The sauce for th calamari was amazing, we asked for bread but they didn't have any which was kind-of a bummer because we really wanted to soak up that sauce! We thought if they fried the calamari it would have soaked up the sauce as well. I got the Seafood bolognese special that comes out once or twice a year, it was really good, had a mixture of cod, shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams. Super fresh! The sauce was delicious as well, I couldn't stop eating it! My friends both got the Beef Bourguignon, I tried it - ummm yum! Super tender fall apart meat, the sauce was so yummy! We all left with, just about empty plates. I wish I had taken pics of the food - I wished they served bread (at least when you ask for it (keep some frozen rolls on hand, just in case ;) ) The place was a warm, cozy old colonial feel with a little French twist - Loved it! I love it here, I always have the mushroom soup (it's a beef stock based spicy soup, so freaking good). I've tried pretty much everything on the menu, during most visit I had the BBQ ribs, came perfectly sauced and tender as possible. I could have eaten a gallon of the baked beans, the slaw was creamy and the corn bread was that perfect combination of crunchy and moist. My GF also started with the soup, for dinner she had "the Steak", she loved her meal. Really cool spot. read more

Had a very nice time here last Sat. I agree with another poster that the entry way could use some sprucing and straightening up. Plus if you make a reservation, ask for one of the smaller cozier rooms. We were in the big one with the moose head which was fine but I'd change it next time. I was starving and asked for an app with our drinks but they wouldn't do that. Again, not sure what the thinking is as it wasn't overly crowded. Onto the food. They did bring an amuse of a cracker with caviar and dill which was fine. Pinot Grigio was around $8 and beer $6. We loved the chicken livers and friend liked the mussels but they didn't seem overly flavorful to me plus no bread for the sauce ($8,12). He got a nice beef bourgenogn (sp) and my crusted haddock w rice and veggie was kind of petite but delicious, both well priced. Split the tasty choc mousse for dessert. This was our 2nd time here in about 20 years. I read reviews and the menu online to decide what to order. The friendly waiter started by telling us they did not get a food delivery today, so several items, including all the fish dinners which I had my heart set on when I made the reservation, were not available. Not their fault, but disappointing. Service was a good pace. Almost everything was extremely salty, especially the mushroom soup and green beans which were inedible due to saltiness. Steaks were cooked well. Mushroom soup would have been better if it was creamy, but it was a clear broth. I had high expectations based on reviews on Yelp. Basically salty beef broth with pieces of ground up mushroom. Meatloaf was huge, but could not taste gorgonzola. It didn't have much flavor at all. It was rather disappointing overall. There was so much salt in everything. Between that and the stuffiness in the air once the small room was full of guests, I was not feeling well and had to get some fresh air outside. That patio was nice with some background music. Would be nice if it was open and warmer out. There is not much separation between tables so it can get very loud and was not very relaxing once it filled up. The price was reasonable. $130 for 4 people, including appetizers, no alcohol or dessert. Best part was the tomato/mandarin side with sauce that came with the chicken appetizer, 1 ball. The water tasted good, but I do not care for drinking out of mason jars at a nicer dinner. Really wanted to like it. Might be good for date nights or once the patio opens. Next time I will request no salt added to everything and hopefully they will have fish available on the menu. There is so much potential to make this place 5 stars. It is very unique for fine dining. Just need more flavor and less salt, teal drinking glasses, better air circulation/ventilation and more space between tables in the small room. read more

First time hitting this place. I call it a solid ok. We went in on a Wednesday night and were seated immediately. In there were maybe 15 or so other customers, not crowded. The host and waitress were cordial and helpful without hovering. I had the club steak with mashed potato and sautéed summer squash medley. The steak was topped with sherry caramelized onions. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The cut looked odd in shape but was tender and flavorful. The veg was cooked to still have a little bite, not over cooked and mushy. The potatoes were smooth and well seasoned without being overdone with seasoning. Well done. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse. Very good, maybe a bit tight in texture. My friend had the three course meal of orecchiette bolognese, Caesar salad, and cheesecake. He was very happy with all three. The bread was a little different. Short on fermentation time and had a savoriness that I couldn't place. It tasted almost as if it had been made with beef base or pan drippings. Tasty, but a surprise. The facility itself is cool in that it an old speakeasy. Neat building and neat history. It is showing it's age and could use more than a little TLC with some dust and cobwebs and a slight must to it. I would recommend this place as a unique location with solid food. read more

I understand it's meant to have a speakeasy/ "you're in someone's home" vibe, but the entrance looks like you're literally walking into someone's messy house. Bug spray cans, brooms, like 6 unplugged fans scattered around, the ground was littered with so many chords- general storage room look to it. I thought I was coming in through the back door and was about to apologize for being in an employees only area when they greeted me. Food was alright, nothing to complain about but I'd say a little pricey for what it was. Server knew the wine and beer list well and was able to give recommendations. The policy of not being allowed to order apps first was strange, I come from the city where generally you order apps, enjoy them slowly, have another cocktail and decide what you'd like next. this is my all time favorite restaurant in Ashland!! The restaurant is in a converted home so it has a very quaint and cozy vibe to it. The food has always been incredible and the service is good. The spicy mushroom soup is SO GOOD YOU HAVE TO TRY IT! I live on the west coast and still dream about this soup occasionally. The carrot cake is also ridiculously moist and delicious. Short story: off putting and insulting experience , because we are not white as almost all of their patrons Long story: my husband and I had heard raving reviews about this place from our friends. The menu looked great so we decided to try it. We entered the restaurant and everyone looked at us as if we just walked into somebody's house. Un-inviting and confused. Two waitresses looked at us and walked back in. One guy asked us if we have the 'membership card'. And then he said he was joking but 'back in the day, you couldn't just walk in here unless you know someone' that was our second clue. We stood there awkwardly for a few minutes. Finally the waitress came in to get our names. She looked at the register and said that they are all booked. When I saw just two names and half of the place empty. It was clear from her tone that we were not welcomed there. She said you can wait at the bar if you like. The bar was already over crowded. We understood her signals and decided to walk away. Never ever in all these years in the US I have felt so Unwanted and unwelcomed. This place is great if you fill their 'white' criteria, for rest of us, better stay away! Oregon Club is s unique place. I went with my partner, family and friend for a birthday celebration. The building appears to have once been a large house. Two main dinning rooms felt as if you're having dinner at grandma's. We ordered from the menu and specials. The meat loaf was good, but could have used a bit more gravy. The steak was cooked perfectly. The salmon was seasoned well and the ravioli had a nice sauce. Creme brulee and chocolate cake for a finish, all were delicious. We then went outside and had cocktails around the fire pit. This is a great place for that special occasion, or a nice dinner with family and friends. read more
