    Grilled beef shish kebab

There's a new Jewish deli in Menlo Park, so you knew I would be there! The style is cuteeee! Blue Mediterranean theme and bright colors, French-style cafe tables. Deli counter and prepared foods to go, cookbooks, baked goods, dry goods, arranged attractively on shelves. You order via iPad, convenient and streamlined. I tried a few things. Beef shish kabob was excellent -- juicy and well seasoned, grilled perfectly. This was a treat! I ordered the Hummus Bomba thinking it would have bamba in it, got confused lol. Bamba is peanut puffs, a popular Israeli snack. Bomba is a Calabrian chili garlic paste like you get at Trader Joe's. So Bomba Hummus bowl came with hummus, a scoop of Calabrian chili garlic paste, crisped chick peas, Persian cucumber and preserved lemon. It was ok but the crisped chickpeas were too hard and dry. As for chicken soup, this is a delicate topic, given the deep emotions that come with it, of memory, childhood, culture. I think I ordered the wrong soup -- I got the meaty matzo ball soup. It smelled like classic chicken soup but had a lemony taste I didn't care for. This soup was chunky with shredded chicken and veggies, but I prefer clear broth only. The matzo ball was good. It's possible the other soup choice was a clear broth. I will try it next time.

4.5 stars In the same family as Che Fico, Bubbelah is a new fast-casual, counter-service restaurant offering a menu of dishes from the Jewish diaspora. This included everything from Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Middle Eastern influences. We started with the Mezze Plate, a collection of cold dishes and appetizers including baba ghanoush, muhammara, labneh, matbucha (cooked tomatoes and peppers), and shredded carrot salad. The combination of flavors and textures was delicious from the creamy dips to the crunchy carrot salad, and everything went nicely with the round of fluffy pita on the side. Another highlight dish was the Che Fico Bomba Crispy Hummus, a plate of light, airy hummus topped with crispy chickpeas and a mildly spicy bomba chili pepper paste. The hummus wasn't as flavorful or creamy as I liked, but the toppings made for a creative fusion dish! The Meaty Matzo Ball Soup was a hearty, savory chicken soup with a large matzo ball in the center. Finally, the Falafel plate came with three soft, crispy, herbaceous falafels served with yellow rice, hummus, and Middle Eastern chopped salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, bell pepper, radish, red onion). Overall, the food here was beautifully plated and decent flavorwise. The atmosphere of the restaurant was clean and modern, and the prices were fair for the quality of the dishes!

Ok, Menlo Park....we see you! This sleepy town is becoming a hot spot for food enthusiasts with all the new restos opening in the area. Soft opening today is Chef Nayfeld's new fast casual resto at Springline (next to Robin): Bubbelah. We were having dinner nearby and saw they just opened today. Dinner #2, why not? They're currently open 11:30 am - 7 pm (last order is 6:40 pm) for takeout and delivery only. Dine-in is coming next week. For now, there's plenty of communal tables outside in the courtyard. M E N U "Inspired by Jewish Diaspora Eastern Europe to the Middle East": Mezze, Salads, Soups, Kebabs, and Sauces. More items to come. F O O D * Mezze Plate ($17) - Labneh: Best dip! The yogurt has a nice thick consistency with bursts of sweet tang from the pomegranate. - Baba Ganoush: The roasted eggplant dip was rich and creamy with a touch of smoky flavor (prefer it stronger). - Hummus: Smooth, but very bland. - Muhamarra: Roasted Red Pepper Dip - Missing - Matbucha: Stewed Tomatoes & Bell Peppers - Chunky marinara sauce vibes. - Spicy Carrot Salad: Crisp with almond slivers. Sweet, not spicy. - Olives: Missing - Pita: Bummed that it looked and tasted commercial (dry and dense), not housebaked like the menu pic. Good sampling of vegetarian dips but this is def shrinkflation prices and portions. It's hard to tell but this is more of a snack size serving for one person. * Schug ($2) The Yemeni hot sauce was spicy and very herbaceous. Quite tart in the end. Overall, it's day one with lots of potential. I can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. Looking forward to returning for their harissa roasted chicken over housebaked lavash when it's rolled out!

Good Mediterranean food with a diner vibe. Service was good and efficient. Self ordering using a terminal like you see in some airports (or on-line). The Baba Ganoush and Muhammara were my favorites. Prices were reasonable, portion sizes were adequate

We got it to go for us already multiple times and I absolutely love their chicken breast (it's flavorful) and so is their rice (super delicious); their hummus is the best hummus ever - it's tangy, bright, fresh and delicious (my only comment is to please add less oil on top of the hummus and it would make it even more phenomenal!) I have tried their beef kebab, and their beef shawarma, but chicken is where it's at. Deducting 1.5 stars as I notice for the à la cart kebabs the portion sizes varies SIGNIFICANTLY from one order one day to another order another time. For context, when we order à la cart chicken kebabs, they are $10 and you get 3 pieces, which is pretty small, but sometimes you get more per order. I think 3 pieces is pretty small for $10 as they are smaller pieces so I wish they were consistent Can't comment on service of ambience as I haven't been physically to the restaurant as we have only taken it go multiple times. I will review them again on consistency once I try this spot again

As someone who likes Turkish food, this felt like a strong contender. Food: We started with the lahmacun which is made up of a thin Turkish flatbread topped with ground beef, tomato, onion, pepper, and garlic. It was beautifully thin and crispy, with just the right amount of topping. Honestly, add a small salad and you've got the kind of lunch that makes you feel satisfied. This lahmacun is one of the better versions I've had which made it extra tragic to learn it's a lunch-only situation. Why gatekeep happiness to daytime hours? For my entree, I ordered the Alinazik which was grilled tenderloin skewers over eggplant labneh. The beef was tender and the labneh was creamy, savory and a tad smoky. I saw that they offer a $44.95 prix fixe menu, which sounds great in theory, except for the small catch that everyone at the table has to commit. A bit of a "we ride together, we prix fixe together" situation which may not work depending on your dining companion(s) dietary restrictions. Atmosphere: The space is bright, airy, and stylish. The high ceilings resulted in lots of natural light, and a large bar that quietly suggests, "you could have a cocktail or two." One slightly odd note: The bathroom lighting is very dim. Like... "is this ambiance or did someone forget a switch?" kind of dim. Not a dealbreaker, just a curious contrast to the otherwise well-lit space. Overall: A solid pick for Turkish food in Palo Alto located off Emerson and a successful group lunch choice (I will be taking full credit). I'd happily come back to explore more of the menu. I'm already eyeing the Pirzola (bone-in lamb chops) or the Filet of Levrek (branzino) and maybe lobby for all-day lahmacun.

Since I typically order takeout, I haven't spent much time inside the restaurant. But I do like the clean, tasteful aesthetic. I also appreciate the staff, both for their friendliness and promptness. I've tried various meats and enjoyed them all; my favorites are the Pomegranate Chicken and Steak Shawarma. It's cool to see Döner Kebab on the menu, too. The different entrée types have varying portion sizes and levels of customization. My preferred type is the Plate, because of the balance of protein, carbs, & veggies. But I think most would like the options & size of the Bowl. On the more critical side, I do not think the Wrap Bites are worthwhile. The form factor & taste are good, but the portions are lacking. I'm also not a fan of the fries and wish I could swap with other sides. Some other thoughts on the menu. Entrées let you add on a lentil soup cup for free, so don't forget it! What you should forget about is the Dubai Chocolate... even if it's "cheap" relative to others, it's just not that good. Finally, if you plan to come here more than once, it's worth creating a free account. You can get some good discounts, including frequent Buy One Get One (BOGO) deals on the entrées. This, plus the consistency & options, make me return to SAJJ even if not the objective "best" Mediterranean in the area.

The French toast was fluffy, buttery, and easily one of the highlights. The omelette with cream and mirin really hit the spot, and the breakfast wrap was also excellent. No complaints here. Drinks (3/5): The drinks tasted good, but we ordered them extra hot and they arrived cold, which was disappointing. You are also responsible to pick them up so stay close to the barrista id you need coffee. Ambiance (4/5): The atmosphere is lively and energetic, which gives the place a fun brunch vibe. That said, it can feel overcrowded. The seating is very tight, tables are pushed close together, and the line can get quite long. Service (2/5): This was unfortunately the biggest issue. One of our items was missed in the original order. When I went back to fix it, staff initially entered it as a separate order and told me there wasn't much they could do and that I'd need to pick it up as a to-go order. After multiple conversations, I asked them to simply combine it with our original order and bring it to our table, which they eventually agreed to. When our food arrived, the missing item was still missing. After checking with staff three separate times, we were eventually told they were "doing us a favor" by giving us someone else's to-go item. By that point, we had already finished most of our breakfast and were ready to leave. The staff seemed more focused on explaining how busy they were rather than taking ownership of the mistake, even though the issue started with the original order being missed. Overall, this is a solid 4-star if you go on a quieter day and you don't need much customer service because the food is absolutely worth trying. On a busy day, though, be prepared for a potential 2-star experience, mainly due to customer service.
