First time and last time ordering from The Orient. Quite possibly some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The house fried rice was a mushy mess. The shrimp in the HFR smelled and tasted very fishy like they'd been sitting around for a long time. The wings that came in the poo poo platter were soooo salty. The dumplings had no flavor. The fillings for both the spring and egg roles were, again, a mushy mess. Looked like chicken strips used in the General's chicken dish. I ate a little of it and threw the rest in the garbage which NEVER EVER happens with me and Chinese left overs which I'll typically enjoy for a few days. STAY AWAY!! read more

Let me start off by saying that I normally do not do reviews, but felt I needed to with regard to my carry out today. Very disappointed. My family absolutely loves this place! Always great service and food is delicious! My wife gets me the egg drop soup for take out whenever I have a cold and I swear it's magic and feel great the next day. Never in my life have I had such salty, disgusting food. It was so over cooked, and the sweet and sour sauce for the chicken was so dark and tasted like a mix between molasses and Robitussin. It was incredibly overpriced for the small portions that were given, and after spending $64 they still charged extra for the hot pepper oil "because it's homemade". The woman taking our order was nice, but the man making the food was cranky with her and seems to be past his prime in regard to food. Stay far away from this restaurant. My wife and I ordered take out dishes which were in my mind quite expensive. Well the bacon was burned the shrimp were dried out and nasty and the dish itself was completely different from the prior time we had ordered it. When my wife called to complain she was forwarded to the chinese chef and likely the owner of this so called restaurant who went on to say in a very nasty manner and I quote "If you don't like our food then go somewhere else". Instead of taking the initiative to appease the customer complaint this piece of crap had the nerve to bar us from ever ordering food from this so called business. This is the first time I have used this reastaurant and door dash. I ordered vegetable chow main and received some noodle stuff. Driver said he can't go back and to call door dash. I get wrong order and I have to make the call? Sent a review and they offer me $4.00. Won't use either again. Also, food was mediocre at best. read more

The orient is a dirty nast $hit hole. The place is filthy and stinks as you walk in. The food made me contemplate if I was eating someone's cat or dog. The few bites I had made me sick and throw up. My girlfriend also ordered sweet and sour chicken the meat was not chicken it was dark dark meat. If you wanna waste your time and money then this is your joint. This was THE ABSOLUTE WORST AND OVERPRICED CHINESE FOOD EVER!!! 1 Large House and 1 small chicken fried rice..2 Wor wonton soups (that say for 2) so i assumed large, a kung pao and a shrimp entree..$60.01!!! I was Looking for a Chinese restaurant that was better than some I have tried. Someone mentioned they had a good experience at the Orient so I figured why not. BINGO I hit paydirt! The food was tasty and reasonably priced and I was shocked to see our food come out piping hot, not just warm but hot (tempt ). Our waitress was very attentive to us and returned to see if we needed anything else. My wife and I had the luncheon special which filled us both, I had sweet & sour chicken, fried rice and spring roll. The sweet sauce was served on the side so you could add as much or little as you choose. My wife had fried rice, spring roll and chow main (not sure I spelled that right) it was also hot and tastey. We had tea to drink and the teapot was also hot and full which gave us plenty to drink. The interior was a bit small but very clean and we found it cozy. We went at 2pm and found plenty of seating. We had a very pleasant lunch for under $20, including tip. We plan to go back often and try the other menu items. They also do not use MSG. read more

Run away!! The service wasn't terrible she was actually very nice but she did forget a couple things we had asked her for. The only reason it gets 2 stars is for the service. The food was terrible! I am the kind of person that asks locals where to go. For years my friends have been saying to give The Orient a shot. The inside looks like it hasn't changed much in the last 20+ years. The waitress and chef are likely the owners. But this review should be about the food and the food didn't disappoint. Pork fried rice and shrimp curry. Both are the best I have had since moving down here. Those two dishes alone are enough to keep me coming back for more but the rest of the menu interests me as well. Well this was the first time and will be my last time I eat at the Orient. Food was burnt from the sauce to the rice. Shrimp was old and not snappy at all. Generals taos chicken was these little pieces of over cooked over breaded pieces of chicken pieces. Even the hot oil was old and stale. I could not believe what I took home, this will never happen again and I don't recommend this place at all. read more

There aren't any authentic Oriental Chinese restaurants left around the USA, thanks to the horrible cookie cutter strip center take out "Chinese" joints that have destroyed the TASTE BUDS for American diners that have no idea what Authentic, multi-regional Chinese food should taste like! So far, "The Orient" is the ONLY authentic Chinese restaurant left in Lee County..if not the State of Florida...to maintain the Authentic flavors of Cantonese, Schezuan, Mandarin & (oops I forget the 4th region of) Chinese cuisines!! I am a world-trained Chef but cannot duplicate The Orient's cooking styles, or I wouldn't need to leave my home! BTW, do not confuse The Orient with "The O Restaurant " next door, which is an American private club.."Fraternal Order of the Orioles", and it has a full service bar ans basic, good old American food! Back to The Orient, it may be small, dark, old inside and not a sparkling new cookie cutter unit similar to the strip shopping sites where you can usually only do takeout. No, this is a single-owner Authentic Chinese Restaurant serving the best Chinese food I've bern missing since I stopped going to NYC!! If you were raised in NYC, before the 80''s.....The Orient is everything you are missing!! This is a great place to get Chinese Food. Originally from the DC area, we have had a hard time finding really good food here in Southwest Florida. This definately fits the bill. The service is great and the food is wonderful. read more

This place is TERRIBLE - not the staff, but the "boss"!!! We ordered take-out moo goo gai pan, egg foo young and beef teriyaki skewers - the meals were supposed to come with brown rice, which they prominently advertise, and 2 egg rolls. We got the food home that night and didn't eat it till almost 8:00 pm; WE COULDN'T EAT IT - it was the SALTIEST food I have ever had the misfortune to eat and I am a salt-a-holic; and the rice was YELLOW not brown. I brought the food back the next day (because I was not getting BACK in the car and driving 8 miles, yes 8 miles for brown rice, at 8:30 pm) - BUT GET THIS - we had split an egg foo young patty, each taking just a bite, tried the TOP of ONE teriyaki skewer, my sister had an egg roll as it was palatable and each tried a spoonful of YELLOW rice - we brought ALL THE FOOD BACK that wasn't digested in our stomachs but threw out the remainder of the one egg foo young patty and THE BOSS opened EACH CONTAINER, took a bite of everything (with his fingers, no utensils) and declared it NOT too salty, I was wrong!!!! I told him we couldn't eat it and he argued with me! Said well, we ate an egg roll and one egg foo young patty and he'd have to CHARGE US FOR THOSE!!! I couldn't believe what poor customer service this BOSS gave me, a customer paying HIS SALARY. It cost us $28 for food we couldn't eat, I was told I should have spit out the food and put it back in the container in order to get all my money back and he said to me that next time I order from them, if I did (his words), make sure I say "no salt" BUT then don't call him and complain there's no taste!!! And on top of it all, the RICE WAS YELLOW and he tried to tell me NO, THAT'S BROWN RICE. I'm not a moron and I'm not color blind - I know the difference between yellow and brown!!!! What a total jerk. Absolutely no way to treat a customer if you want a repeat customer!! I have never been treated like that over food that was TOO SALTY whether the owner thought it was or not!!! So he charged me FOUR DOLLARS ($4.00) for 1 egg foo young patty and an egg roll!!! THIS IS A VERY BAD MAN - BAD TEMPER AND HAS NO RESPECT WHATSOEVER.
