The ambiance seems outdated but hey we're mainly here for the food. Lots of menus plastered all around so there's no way you can miss what they have. Service is quick and fast. There isn't a lot of spaces to sit and eat so this is mostly a takeaway spot. used to frequent between here or another BBQ place in the Crossroads. But here you get a bit more for your buck. My go-to order is mainly #18 which is the BBQ Chicken Lunch Plate. I would always get the Regular as it comes with more BBQ chicken and rice. I have tried their Seafood Combo before but felt that the shrimps were mostly batter. So I just stuck with what was best which was the BBQ Chicken. read more

Aloha! This review today is not based on my dine-in experience. It's about my experience with ordering from them through Uber Eats. I've been to the establishment a few times in the past and it's in a very convenient area. I've ordered pick up, for delivery, and dine-in. Even catered with them at one point. Park n Shop shopping center is across the street (99 cent store, more restaurants, and grocery stores like Ranch 99 and Los Montanez, I apologize if I spelled it incorrectly.). I never have any issues finding parking either. There is plenty of seating inside for the customers. But they need an upgrade on the decor. I ordered a chicken katsu (2 scoops of rice, side of macaroni) plate, 2 egg rolls, and a Diet Coke through Uber Eats. The food was prepared fast and delivered in less than 30 minutes. The food came in a huge portion, enough to feed an adult and child. Everything was provided, including napkins and utensils. They gave me enough sweet and sour sauce for the egg rolls and katsu sauce for the chicken: The whole meal tasted good and I have leftovers to take home. I was one happy woman at work. I chose their Combination plate#1 which consists of short ribs, teriyaki steak, and chicken. It was mediocre at best to be honest. The bulk of the proteins is heavily biased towards the chicken and the short ribs was sparse. I wished the meats stayed in the grill a little bit more as there no hint of char. The taste is a little behind the typical Hawaiian Bbq. Adding one star as the portion of my lunch plate is proper. Overall, it was just alright. read more

The prices for plates here are significantly cheaper than what you would find at an Onos or Hawaiian Drive In. I opted to get the bento for $14 because of the unique combo of proteins. The plate was more than enough to feed up to 2 people. The flavor quality was sa fair bit below from the Hawaiian chains mentioned- the fish fillet breading was pretty salty, and the BBQ chicken lacked that traditional marinade flavor. But the garlic shrimp was very well done, and fwiw, the toddlers loved the chicken and egg rolls. And I will never complain about the value you get with the prices, especially on the musubis and plates I'd absolutely go back, and perhaps remember to ask for teriyaki/katsu sauce. read more

My coworker raved about this spot by her house and she was ordering some for lunch through door dash so i was like why not! I got the chicken platter with bbq chicken and chicken katsu. The plate came with a good amount of rice and meat. I feel like some places give you a small amount of rice, but that wasnt the case for this spot. Waikiki Hawaiian BBQ is located in a small shopping center across the street from Park & Shop, and also next to the shopping center next to PetSmart. They have been in this spot for some time now, having switched through owners throughout its time here. It's in the same shopping center where Imperial Seafood Restaurant used to be open, but has now closed, which leaves this shopping center more quiet than it used to be many years back. Driving by here, you'll probably feel as if everything in this little shopping center was closed, but Wakiki is definitely not one of those stores. Pricing wise, they have gone up, rather drastically, ever since re-opening again after the initial lockdown, as they had been closed for a time. One of the reasons I liked this spot in the past certainly connected to their reasonable pricing for the portions that you get from them. The portions are luckily still comparable, however, with the increase in price, it's on the more expensive side when comparing to Hawaiian BBQ in general, and really, just pricier in general for food in the immediate area, considering you have so many food options in the surrounding abundance of shopping centers, and just a short drive or medium walk away from Los Todos Santos. While it's not too expensive, it's also not going to be the best bang for your buck when comparing it to other eateries. But again, at least portions are comparable. Food wise, it will be sort of hit or miss depending on when you get them. When they're busy it seems like that's when they struggle the most with food quality. When the food is bad, it's basically just completely burnt and dry. When done well, the chicken in particular is just tender, delicious, and quite juicy. Luckily, I've had more good experiences with the food quality than bad, so take this for what it's worth. Their mac salad here is also great. I always get all mac when I'm here, and they are quite generous when it comes to the scoop of mac you get. The service here is good too for the most part. It's a very mom n pop kind of operation, and you can see that they try at least. I would recommend popping into Waikiki if you're interested in some Hawaiian BBQ when in the area, or just want Hawaiian BBQ other than the places in Pleasant Hill. They're a bit more expensive now than they used to be, and just pricier considering it's Hawaiian BBQ, but then again, nowadays everything has gone up in price relatively speaking, so can't complain too much. At the very least the portions are on the generous side. Make sure to order either earlier or later, and not right in the peak rush, as they may have consistency issues from time to time. And mac salad fans, you'd definitely want to all mac it here. ;) read more

I have been a fan here since they first opened way back when. Always my go to spot for Hawaiian food around the Concord area. The staff wore masks and gloves. There is no seating right now. And they use plastic wrap as a barrier instead of plexiglass. The menu sure has changed a lot since I have been coming here. The prices go up every year, but I assume that for inflation. They still more or less have the same items to offer, and just adding new items via pieces of paper they stick on the wall. My favorite things to get are the BBQ chicken and the Chicken Katsu. This time, I got the Mini Katsu, which is a helping supply of the fried chicken cutlet, a scoop or rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. They also have a delicious Katsu sauce to go with it. The macaroni salad they have is the best I ever had. The rice was dry and sticky, which is a plus for me. Overall, I love this place. I know visually it is not appealing, but I am here for the food. The staff still remembers me who I am from time to time, and I still remember them. I will always plan to come back here. read more

This place was disgusting! The tables were sticky, the windows were dirty, and the soda dispenser looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the place opened. My husband and I tried to look past it and ordered the chicken katsu, garlic shrimp, and two spam musubies. We got our food and left as quickly as we could. We figured we could eat in our car instead. We opened the food and were shocked at the quality. The chicken katsu looked mostly alright. The garlic shrimp was mostly burned and bitter tasting garlic and scallions. The spam musubies were a pale color. They didn't even look like they were cooked long enough to get the nice sear it usually has. We were so grossed out by the waiting area of the restaurant that we couldn't help but to think about what the cooking area looked like. We had a few cautious bites and decided to throw it all away. It wasn't worth getting food poisoning over. Please just don't go there. Hygiene and presentation should be a restaurant's number one priority and this place is just gross. AVOID!!! read more

Centrally located across from Park and Shop on Willow Pass, this small spot in a non-descript strip mall is a jewel in the rough. They have a lot of Hawaiian BBQ options and they have fairly large portions. I usually get the Chicken Katsu and the BBQ Beef combo. Both served with ample scoop of rice and Mac salad. The sauce that comes with BBQ Katsu is not too sweet but very good. Gal at service counter is also nice and efficient. Don't forget to try the Thai Iced tea and the Malasadas for desserts. read more

This use to be one of the best Hawaiian BBQ places but it's not as good as it once was. The service is horrible they try to over charge you. I had to let the guy know the prices because my total came out way overpriced. Then I grabbed an Arizona tea thinking it would be 1.25$ like any other place they tried charging me 3$ saying it's the same price as the coconut water. When I told him I didn't want it he tried to only give me 2$ back instead of 3$. I told him I payed 3$ why is he only trying to give me 2$ back then he finally gave me the 3$. The food does not match the pictures they show! Very disappointed. Check your receipt and prices they display! After everything they took 40 minutes to complete my order other people that ordered after me were receiving their food before me and all I order was a fried shrimp plate. Hawaiian comfort food at its best! I was in the mood for Loco Moco for supper on a recent cold, cloudy day. Nothing like a hot serving of Loco Moco and fresh Malasadas to chase the blues away. Even when delivered by DoorDash, the food arrived hot and freshly made. Tip: For two servings, just order one Loco Moco and use the option to add an extra patty. It comes with plenty of rice so each person gets enough rice with a hamburger patty with egg on top. The eggs were cooked perfectly with the yolks still runny. A generous amount of flavorful gravy is included. Yum! The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the macaroni salad -- next time, I will opt for all rice instead. Their menu appeared to feature most of the popular Hawaiian bbq classics. But, something else on the menu caught my eye: malasadas!!! I hadn't had them since my last trip to Hawaii, so I was eager to order them since they were on the menu. I ended up getting their garlic shrimp plate with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad and a side of malasadas. Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of macaroni salad. Yes, it's weird and yes, I know that. I forgot to ask to sub out the macaroni salad for something else. But ironically, it was actually some of the best macaroni salad that I've ever tasted at a Hawaiian bbq spot before. I really liked it! I still can't believe it, but it was actually really good! As for the garlic shrimp; it was nice and garlicky just how I like it. The portion size was good for the price and they provided a nice amount of shrimp. Was it the freshest shrimp in the world? Nope. But, it was still really tasty. The only thing that annoyed the hell out of me is that they serve their shrimp with the shells still on them. WHYYYYY do you do that to me? Such a pet peeve! I hate having to peel the shells off of shrimp. One: because I'm lazy (hey, at least a girl is honest about it!), two: it's extremely messy, and three because all of the great seasonings including all of that yummy garlic is put on the OUTSIDE of the shell which makes for less seasoning on the actual shrimp itself . Womp womp! That really ruined the experience for me. Getting my hands all... "dirty" in an already dirty place. Not really a fan, but I digress. Now about those malasadas: yeah... nice try! They're more like mini donuts. I mean, I wasn't expecting Leonard's style malasadas or anything, but... Okay, maybe I WAS expecting it and I got my hopes up. We'll just call their malasadas "mini donuts". They were just... aiight. All in all, this place ranks pretty average in my book. decided to come here since Ono's hawaiian bbq was too far from where i was. They completely got both of my orders wrong after the the cashier said she understood my order. I ordered TWO plates of half chicken katsu & half teriyaki chicken with 2 scoops of mac and 1 scoop of rice. Instead, i got One short ribs with teriyaki with just one scoop of mac and one katsu with shortribs, again with only one scoop of mac. Keep in mind i paid EXTRA for all these sides and extras, only for my order to be completely wrong. Dont come here unless you want to risk the wrong order and to get charged so much!! This is my "Go-to" when it comes to Hawaiian food. I like this place so much that I drive past another Hawaiian restaurant just to get here. I always get either the Chicken Katsu, BBQ Chicken, or Garlic Shrimp. On days when I really feel bold, I also get a couple of Spam Musubis or Chicken Katsu Musubis on the side. Waikiki Hawaiian BBQ does Chicken Katsu very well here. Thinly sliced chicken, fried to perfection, crispy panko on the outside, soft and juicy chicken on the inside. They cook this perfectly to where the inside and outside of the chicken are always complimenting each other with every bite. The generous side of rice and a creamy mac salad just fills me right on up. Now imagine this in the form of a Musubi as well? Pure perfection. Now if I'm not feeling fried, the BBQ chicken has its magical features too. Nice little char on the outside, the same expected juiciness on the inside. What made me fall in love with this place though is the Garlic Shrimp. The shrimp is so plump, just the right amount of butter, and enough garlic to have your breath smellin' victorious for the rest of the day. Overall this is a staple for Hawaiian food. I grew up in Honolulu in the 80's and 90's and I can say that this place is the closest to plate lunches from back home. I used to go to the original L & L on Liliha Street, Grace's on Beretania and Rainbow Drive In on Kapahulu and Waikiki Hawaiian is as close to home in the east bay. Most recently I got a mixed plate with hamburger steak and beef curry. I guess it's not a popular combo as the lady behind the counter had to ask twice to make sure she heard correctly. When I received my plate 10 minutes later it was piled high with food. Ample gravy over hamburger patties and a nice serving of beef curry. Mac salad was done perfectly Hawaiian style. Everything was 'right on da kinipopo.' After my meal I thanked the lady and told her with all the plate lunch places around now, this is still the best place. Haven't been here in years but I was picking up a cake at Alpine Pastry and needed to purchase a small tray of teriyaki steak for a family gathering. I called ahead to make sure Waikiki Hawaiian BBQ would be able to prepare it on a moment's notice since this was a last minute celebration. And they were happy to help! When I arrived, the small tray of teriyaki steak was ready for pick up. I was greeted with a friendly hello and was out the door almost immediately. The restaurant still looked the same- kinda outdated but clean. They share the same parking lot as Imperial Seafood restaurant so it can be busy at times when people are coming for dim sum. The teriyaki steak was tender and flavorful but the pieces were not cut evenly. Instead of sliced teriyaki steak, some of the pieces were left whole and made it awkward for the guests. We needed a knife to cut the steaks so one person wouldn't get a huge piece while another had a bite-sized one. In addition, it would have been nice if the fat was trimmed and removed from the meat. Preparation and presentation was definitely lacking. read more
