It's basically Japanese fast food. Think slightly higher quality than you'd get at the food court. You go to the counter, order, and someone will bring it out when it's ready. There's also a little fountain for sodas. The prices are really reasonable though. I usually go for the lunch special! You can get hibachi, teriyaki, or 2 of the more basic sushi rolls for only $9.95. And it's pretty tasty, especially for that price! The steak on the hibachi can be a little tough but honestly if that's the only negative I can find, I'd say they're doing really well. read more

Hibachi Japanese Express is the most consistent and affordable hibachi in the area. Doubt there's another restaurant around that'll give you steak and shrimp fried rice, a side salad, and soup for under $25?! Customer service is also really good, when dining in they brought my food to the table and periodically checked on me. I love Japanese Food. Especially the Hibachi style. We come from Columbus, Ohio and one of our favorite places to go was a Japanese Steakhouse. I could have eaten there every single day. Lol. Why 4 stars? Because everybody wins with fast casual hibachi. --- --- --- Usually I am the one doing the food research in my household, but in this case, my wife is the one who discovered Hibachi Japanese Express. We intended to go in and check it out together, but our one-year old's nap schedule got in the way, so we placed a to-go order and she brought it home. I ordered a steak/scallop hibachi rice dinner, while she went with the chicken Japanese noodles. I really enjoyed both, but the noodles were actually the highlight between the two. The rice was a tad dry, which was really our only complaint. I'm sure it's possible that it could have been better if we'd eaten it at its freshest moment at the restaurant, but it wasn't anything a little Japanese mayo didn't fix. We also both ordered a side salad with ginger dressing, which is always enjoyable. Next time, we'll have to explore some of the sushi options, and honestly, the whole menu looks super appealing. Although they may not the best, but judging for the affordable, I will give them a repeat visit which most of the owner is asking for. A repeat customer. This is close to cafeteria style with order at the counter and bring the food to the table. Their regular sushi is under $5. Specialty sushi is about $9. They have hibachi for your order. I have order the appetizer as fried rock shrimp. This is good size of shrimp. Each piece is about a dollar. Our main entrées are the stir fry beef noodle, spicy tuna, volcano roll, and Hawaii roll. Spicy tuna roll stands out for the taste. Good flavor. The specialty roll are drop behind the good name. I would try their lunch special if I am here. I had much higher expectations for this place after multiple friends have visited and raved about it. I ordered ahead online to pick up. The process was very easy and prices online did reflect the actual prices of the food. After ordering, the restaurant called in verify that I did in fact know that it was on Florida Ave. I think this was due to the fact that there is another location close by with a similar name. Upon walking in, the place seemed clean. It wasn't super busy but the girl at the register that was taking the order of the customer ran to me as soon as I got there. I thought this was rude and I could have waited until she was finished. They could have stood to have another person up front taking orders. She asked for my name twice and had a hard time finding the food order. I wasn't impressed. The food I got hibachi style was warm. It had just come up when I got there. I got the Steak and Shrimp combination with fried rice and veggies. The steak tasted fresh and was tender but the shrimp was chewy and did not have a lot of flavor. I would not recommend the shrimp. The veggies were overcooked and lacked flavor. I purposely put no mushrooms on the order in a few places online and there were still quite a few mushrooms in the veggies. This is the large version. While the container looks pretty big, when compared to a friend who order a small version, the amount of food was very similar. The salad was a waste of time. They could have just left that out. The dressing was questionable and the lettuce was just a handful of wet romaine thrown in a Styrofoam container. I also got a Red Dragon Roll. When I took it out of the bag I was impressed by how much was in the container. It was a decent roll and had a pretty good taste for a quick sushi fix. It could have used some extra spicy mayo but it was tasty! The wasabi wasn't that good though. Also, be mindful, even if you ask online or on the phone for extra sauce doesn't mean you will get it. They try and hide how dry and tasteless their salmon is by drenching it in BBQ, which frankly, they don't even mention that they are putting bbq sauce on your salmon. Doesn't show BBQ in the photo.. The fried rice is bland, the gyoza was burnt, the gyoza soup was bland, the vegetables were bland. You all know you're supposed to season food...right? Absolutely awful. This restaurant has the worst customer service ever! I placed an order on uber eats and they gave my driver someone else order instead of mine. When I called the manager assured me they would have the correct order delivered, I waited 40 minutes for them to tell me they can't redeliver my order. I asked if they could remake it and I will drive all the way up there to get it and bring the wrong order back. The rude manager gets on the phone and starts yelling they can't do it and uber will refund me in 3-5 days. I did not eat the sushi, but for the money the large hibachi contained a lot of food. I enjoyed the grilled vegetables, but the yum yum sauce was not the correct texture. It appeared to be watered down. The ambiance is a large room with many tables throughout a cafeteria style restaurant. Ordered 4 rolls, rainbow, caterpillar, Hawaii, and philly roll. The Hawaii has eel in it an should be warmed. In cold rolls the fish should be COLD. That said, this wasn't. The fish wasn't cold but room temperature which makes my husband & me very nervous so we couldn't eat the rolls. We decided to speak to a manager and had she not had been so defensive and hostile towards our view point I wouldn't have written this. She didn't handle it well as if it was personal. So we asked for a refund and she refunded partial. Fine, but her attitude sucked. I noticed the rolls they show case on the menu is hot rolls mostly or warm due to the tempura. They also seem to sell mostly the hibachi. The sushi fridge looked cold. So I said maybe it sat out waiting to be brought to the table. I was trying to let her know I understand things happen. I really tried to get past the temp but hot food needs to be hot and so cold raw fish should be cold! She said we use hot rice for our sushi. What!? That doesn't make sense. Also the sushi rice texture in one of them was a bit off like it was old. We know sushi, not only have we had it in Japan but 4 other countries and 7 states. This sushi was friggin off. I hope she checks the temperature she didn't even ask to feel. This place is one of the best express hibachi places I've been too! Sometimes I'm craving hibachi (minus the show) and this is one of the first places I think of. First I want to talk cost. Pricing is decent. For $12 you can get a combo meat option. I usually get shrimp and steak. This comes with the rice, salad, and yummy sauce. It's A LOT of food for $12. Next I want to talk taste. Everything tastes really great. I have yet to get something over cooked (which sometimes happens with hibachi) and everything is seasoned pretty well. I have no issues to speak of It's not the fanciest place or in the nicest area. You're not going to get a photo op. But the food is good and there's always parking! I recommend! read more

This place is my go to place when I need something fast, the food is always fresh but not all ways tasty but if you're really hungry and in a rush to grab and go they make sure to have your order ready less than 10 mins at time. Disclaimer: just wanted to point out that I would truly rate it at 3.5 stars. 4 stars is generous I have been desperately looking for a express hibachi place for a while and was honestly pleasantly surprised with certain parts of this place. There are not many hibachi restaurants around this aren't, even fewer that are good. This was my first time trying and I wanted to give Hibachi Express a good try. I was very impressed with their sushi (specifically the spicy tuna and eel rolls). It was very good and relatively cheap 6-piece rolls that I enjoyed. I will most definitely be going back for their sushi rolls. However, their hibachi is a slightly different story. I wanted to taste all of the types they had so I chose the Hibachi combo and can easily say the shrimp hibachi/ fried rice is the best out of the three (chicken, steak, and shrimp). Their vegetables were very good with the broccoli undeniably being the best that was offered. Their fried rice was decent; well cooked and seasoned however I really had to add quite a bit of soy sauce to be how I like it. I would highly recommend trying things for yourself to determine what you like the best. Now for their salads.... Being blunt it was not good. The ingredients seemed fresh but my salad consisted on only lettuce with a single slice of tomato and a couple cubes of cucumber. There is not very many dressings offered and has very little variety on what's in the salad. Quite disappointing. Overall, I enjoyed my food and my experience, even if it took 25 min to get. I will definitely be going back for the sushi and trying more rolls. I do want to see what else they have to offer and hopefully find something else I enjoy. read more

My experience here was pretty abysmal, so unfortunately I have to give just 2 stars. I placed a call ahead order to pick up - I ordered 5 sushi rolls: the California roll, the Hawaiian roll, the Spider Roll, the Godzilla roll, and the Red Dragon roll (I asked them to replace the spicy tuna with just regular tuna in this roll). I also asked for the first three rolls to be placed in one box, and the last two rolls to be placed in another box (so that I could distinguish the rolls that were mine and the rolls for the person with me). The lady on the phone said it would be ready in 15min. When we got there, to be fair it was clear they were pretty busy - so as 15min turned into 20min, then 30min, then 40min, we didn't cause a fuss. But after 50min of standing around waiting, we finally asked about the status of our order. They told us that they realized they had accidentally given our order to someone else, and the sushi order they were currently working on for us was incorrect. The first lady we spoke to actually asked if we wanted to just take the incorrect order...which stunned me that after waiting nearly an hour, they would even suggest we should essentially just deal with their mistake and be on our way! At that point, we asked for a refund and a second lady stepped in...she said they would give us the incorrect order, in addition to making the rolls we ordered - to me, this seemed a fair way to rectify the situation so we then agreed to stick around longer to wait for our rolls. About 10-15min later they called our order. When we picked it up, we noticed they did NOT give us the incorrect order along with our correct order - they just gave us our five rolls. I also noted they put it in one big container rather than separate it out as I asked, and they didn't replace the spicy tuna of the Red Dragin roll with regular tuna - they just put some regular tuna on top of it! But by now we had been lounging around this place for well over an hour and were so ready to leave that we didn't make a commotion. We took the order and just left - but I found the whole experience really aggravating. They were very disorganized and there was just no real sense of customer service, so we left there with no intention of coming back.
