Pepperoni PizzaThere was hair in our pizza so I went inside and showed an employee she said "oh I don't do that talk to someone else" and walked away. I turned around to the next employee and was like "I'm not sure how you guys want to deal with this but I'd like a refund please". The chefs processed to show how they're bald so it's clearly not their hair so it's not their problem right? They said we can make another, which sure some people would've taken that but why would I want more food after being served that and the amount of disrespect they gave. It took a good 10 minutes of them talking about us in Spanish to everyone like we didn't understand them, saying they needed a manager there to help, and all that stuff. I want to begin by saying choices are limited on the island and we are well aware that prices reflect the additional cost in getting ingredients from the mainland, but I still found the prices still on the pricey side. That being said, this is the 2nd time visiting the island and our 2nd time enjoying Antonio's. The first time we dined in at their old location on the waterfront (summer of 2022), service was so-so but food was spot on. The 2nd time we ordered food to go (summer of 2023) and food was still spot on. My kids loved the cheese crisp - don't knock it until you tried it. The pizza was just as good as we remembered! The order in which they handed out the food was disorganized and not in the order they were received. We decided to wait for our food because it's one of the only places on the Island that has food late at night. The pizza itself was ok. It was pretty greasy though. I have been so many places around the world lots of restaurants but this was by far was the worst place I have ever been there was no space on the walls for anything else because they made it so overwhelmingly crowded when you first walk in their is peanut shells covering the flor because they say "throw peanut shells on the floor" obviously they don't have to clean the floor they have red and white table cloths with shamrocks on them but Antonios is Italian when you sit down they throw paper plates at you next they give you some frozen pizza. When you pay it is extremely over priced. So in conclusion don't ever go there. read more

We went to Antonio's because it has the red and white checkered tablecloths..and for the pizza of course! I wanted just a slice of pepperoni pizza but they will only serve that to go so I ordered a small pepperoni pizza since we were dining in the restaurant. They put a LOT of cheese on their pizzas. I liked the crust. It was nice and chewy. Brian ordered a pizza with artichoke hearts mushrooms and olives. The mushrooms were not fresh. I don't like it when they put canned mushrooms on pizzas. Another thing, they bring you peanuts, shelled peanuts, and you are to put the shells on the floor. I felt a little strange doing that but the sign did say throw your shells on the floor. That practice is a little odd for a pizza place, not so Italian. We had very good service and I will always go back there for pizza when I am on Catalina Island. read more

And even if the pepperoni was mistaken for peppercini, I don't see how you can just completely forget tomato sauce. :( We ate it all because we were already back at our hotel and we just wanted dinner but this was really disappointing. Not only that but the pizza was weirdly stale and very dry for something that's supposed to be fresh. My family and I were excited to try Antonio's after it was recommended by our hotel. The pizza was ok a day the salad was filling. The service was no good. First, the hostess didn't seem interested in acknowledging us. We had to initiate the conversation even though we were next in line. She hardly made eye contact which made it even harder to communicate. Before we ordered, we tried going inside but she quickly told us that we couldn't come in to dine. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, even though there were 3 tables with customers inside. I thought, "maybe it's because of COVID social distancing). However as we were waiting for our order, we noticed that she was allowing certain people to dine inside. It seemed that they were locals. She even got excited and came outside to say hello to someone she thought she knew. So, she's super nice and accommodating to locals, but not nice to visitors. I can say this because the guy infront of us told us he experienced the same thing. Anyway, we wanted to go inside to escape the cold. Luckily we found a space under the sun. Antonio's Pizzeria could do better. I'm posting this mainly for the owner. There are two locations of Antonio's in Avalon, and this one is the smaller location that sells pizzas by the slice instead of a whole pie. It seems this is the only spot in Avalon to get pizza by the slice, which they sell for around $3.50 each. The slices are on the smaller side, so it is not like a big New York slice. Kudos that they have horchata here not just sodas. They also sell casual pastas. I wanted spaghetti and meat sauce and noticed that this location lets you do a dinner combination with a side salad for just about the same price as buying the pasta alone would be at the larger Antonio's. The spaghetti tasted watery and overcooked, kind of like the Olive Garden on a bad day. If you order at the window they will bring your food out in to-go packaging so I guess if you want to eat there you should order inside. This location doesn't have free peanuts that you can have fun with, throwing the shells on the floor, unlike the larger location that encourages this fun behavior. Still, they have the signs up saying you are supposed to throw peanuts on the floor...even though they are no peanuts to be thrown. read more

Antonio's! What happened?! We have been coming over for more than 20 years, staying 10 days at a time. On every trip we made sure we visited one or the other of your stores at least 3 times per visit. Your restaurants were always where our family wanted to fo first. On our last trip to big Antonio's. You were not busy, yet after being seated NO ONE came back to our table! My husband got up and went to the front THREE times to ask for a waiter. Three times he was told OK and the staff just continued visiting in the corner. After 45 minutes our party gave up and left. Just last week we were back and went to the little sandwich shop to get your long loved Italian Subs, easily the best on the planet. They were such a disappointment, NOTHING like the subs you've made for years! The rolls are not good, the meat and cheeses were nothing like what you're known for. We might as well have picked up a ham sandwich at Von's! We'll be back in December and planned to give you another try. However, our experience and all the negative comments is very discouraging. read more

My friend wanted pizza so we figured that we would just head to Original Antonio's to grab a few slices from the To-Go window. We waited at the window for five minutes and no one showed up. The phone was ringing like crazy but there was no one there to answer it. There were only a few parties inside so either they were very understaffed or just not doing their jobs. Finally a woman came to the window (not in a rush at all), but she didn't even acknowledge us. No apology or anything. There was another man waiting inside the restaurant to ask her a question, and she answered it and then answered the phone, still not acknowledging us at all. That was absolutely ridiculous. We ended up just walking away without ordering anything because of the terrible customer service. This is just a little hole in the wall place, adjacent to the Glenmore Plaza Hotel. The service is not spectacular, but also not terrible. I had just a side salad that was very good and very well priced. My husband went with a small pepperoni and pineapple pizza, of which I was able to snag one piece. The salad ingredients - lettuce, tomato, olive, pepperocinies - were all fresh and tasty. I had their Italian dressing and added a bit of parmesian and black pepper from the table to make it my own. The small pizza was 9" diameter and enough for two small with small appetites to share. I was able to remove the pepperoni from my slice since I don't eat meat, and found it was delightful with the plentiful pineapple pieces. The crust was fairly thin and had a good taste. Had to shout across the restaurant to the waitress to request a diet Pepsi refill, because she never came back, but she was happy to provide it upon my request. read more

The place definitely needs some remodeling but the pizzas are solid. We sat down and ordered a large BBQ chicken pizza and we finished it with 2 people since we were really hungry. A Beer, Large Pizza and a fountain drunk was $33 ($40 with a tip) so pricing not that bad. I'd give this place a shot. We had checked in earlier in the day to see what the latest time that we could be seated and we were told that as long as we were there by 8:00 they would serve us. We arrived at 7:45 only to be told that they would not seat us. I challenged the lady that I spoke with earlier in the day and she said it is 8:00 and that she would not seat us. She had a poor attitude and lacked integrity. We did end up going elsewhere. We have not had the best experience with attitudes at the place. So all my reviews for Avalon are going to be a little be skewed as you really don't have THAT many options here. You'll see me write "for Avalon" or "relative to Avalon" as I think that's the best way to go. I think if this was anywhere else, you can knock my reviews down one star. With that said, Antonio's is a charming, dare we say hole in the wall pizzeria. There is a bigger Antonio's a little further down, but every local seems to point to this one. We were greeted by a friendly older lady. We had an infant with us but she was very helpful in getting us situated with the car seat and the. folding up the stroller. Again, this place isn't that big. The inside is filled with "old school cool" memorabilia - b/w pictures of celebrities, signs and posters from the 50s, and even the 70s version of Pepsi cups for our sodas. Onto the food. I thought prices were fair relative to Avalon. We ordered a small combination pizza and the sourdough garlic cheese bread. Combination pizza - my wife and I actually enjoyed this pizza. It's simple yet hits the spot on a lot of things. The crust had a good crisp but soft in the middle. The cheese blend they use adds not just flavor but stretchiness to the pizza slice. The ingredients seem fresh. The sauce was good and not too much. Overall, it was a good combination pizza. Not extraordinary but very solid. Sourdough garlic cheese bread was excellent. When you bite in, it's not the cheese or the garlic you first taste. It's the sourness from the dough that you get a whiff of, which for me, I loved. It wasn't overly cheesy - I might ask for extra cheese next time. But if you like sourdough, definitely try this or the sourdough pepperoni pizza which I'm curious to try. Overall good experience. Be warned if you come in the winter. It says 10PM closing. We got there probably around 7:50PM thinking we had plenty of time. By the time we were wrapping up, something like 8:20, we see them flip the sign to closed. A couple came in a little later, confused as online it says 10PM closing. They graciously took their order. We asked them what time they actually close, and in the winter when not many people are there, they close 8/8:30/9PM depending on how busy they are. We went to this pizzeria even though we saw the review that it was tasting like defrosted frozen pizza, and I personally felt that it was not tasting as such. We came at around 1:50pm to order for pickup, and because they were busy, we had to wait for around 30 minutes. We sat and ate at the nearby bench outside as inside of the restaurant and the outside seatings for the restaurant were pretty packed. The pizza tasted nice. We were visiting Catalina and ate at this restaurant 2 times. The first night was for takeout pizza. I got a large combination and it was so good. Lots of cheese and the crust was perfect. Thick, crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Highly recommend it. We returned the second day for lunch. Hubs got the corned beef sandwich and I got the pastrami and we shared. The corned beef was really delicious but the pastrami was out of this world. Both come with the most delicious pasta salad I've ever had as a side and aus ju dipping sauce. The service was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were refilled without having to ask and the server brought over peanuts while we were waiting. Antonio's is a 50'-style pizzeria and deli - they offer pizzas, pastas, salads, soups, and hot & cold sub sandwiches. I love the fact that they offer pizza by the slice as well. The hubsters wanted a little snack, so he ordered 1 slice of cheese pizza (Mozzarella, Monterey Jack, Provolone, Cheddar, and Parmesan Cheese (which is also the cheese base for all the other pizzas as well!)). It was pan-style, so the pizza itself was thick, fluffy, and actually pretty tasty for a regular cheese pizza! However, I was intrigued as this pan pizza had a nice crispy crust - mmm! With a little sprinkle of chili flakes, this pizza was definitely delicious.
