I'm a property manager and I was asked to help out for a few hours at one of the properties that my company manages near Original ChopShop. I had about 30 minutes for lunch and I decided to stop here. This was my first time coming here. Original ChopShop is at the end of one of two rows of business buildings in a shopping center. During lunch time on a weekday when I visited, parking spaces were hard to come by because there are many popular places to eat here. The order counter is just a few steps in front the entrance. Large menus are display are above the counter. Lots of natural light streamed through the large windows in the front of the store, and the side and ceiling of the large indoor dining area feature glass windows, making it feel like you're dining outdoors without experiencing the elements or insects. However, there is an outdoor patio if you actually do want to experience the elements and insects. The dining room was very clean. I got to Original ChopShop at around ten minutes past noon. Surprisingly, there were only about 15 people, although the restaurant can seat a whole lot more customers than that. In spite of not having that many customers, it still took 20 minutes for my order to be delivered to my table. I had ordered a grilled steak sandwich on multi-grain bread. The sandwich included grilled sirloin, caramelized onion, fontina, arugula, apple, mushroom, horseradish creme, and soy sesame sauce. The presentation was nice, but I thought the flavors were just awful, with the main flavor being "burnt." The grilled sirloin was tender, but its flavor was ruined by the caramelized onions and/or the mushroom. I was also expecting the bits of steak to be hot, but it wasn't. Something tasted really off. I had only taken one bite and that was enough. I did eat the pickle, which tasted great! I really had to leave to get to work, anyway. This was not a good experience. read more

I found this place on TikTok and thought it would be a good place to try. And it did not disappoint. I went here with my girlfriend and she got the club sandwich while I got the chicken teriyaki bowl. The food was very good, but the only issue was that the egg she got wasn't over easy, but instead over hard. But overall the food was very good, the portions were the same as advertised. Parking was a breeze in their parking lot. Plenty of seats were available in a spacious room. Decorations included plants and soft colors with lots of natural light. We tried their Thai Coconut Chicken Bowl GF and Green Curry Tofu Bowl GFVEGV. My sister enjoyed her chicken bowl with brown rice. My tofu had a pan fried side while the rest was soft. Vegetables in the bowl like broccoli, carrots and onion were well charred. Fresh scallion and snap peas were sprinkled over the top. Flavors were subdued but super satiating especially with a little bit of sriracha. Overall, we had a good experience. Staff were nice and packed our meals to go well. This will be an unique review. Because it's also a story. A love story- a loving story about food and my person Let's start by rewinding 9 years. That's when an Original ChopShop opened in Tempe, AZ adjacent to the ASU campus where I was a student. Lucky for me the shop was about a block away from my student housing. I frequented this location often, be it for a chia pudding, açaí bowl, fresh juice, hummus & veggie sandwich, or my favorite- the green curry tofu bowl (with sweet potato hash of course). All those menu items are delicious but my most favorite times were the Friday nights when my "he's just a friend, mom" guy-friend and I would meet there for dinner and split a pitcher of sangria. We would talk through dinner and maybe listen to a local artist sing on the front patio. Such fond memories of good food and company. Fast forward all those years and this "just a friend" friend reached out to me. I was finishing grad school in Florida, where he coincidentally was going to be working out of town (coming from Atlanta, GA). Anyways, we met up and long story short after nearly 10 years of knowing each other our friendship blossomed into a relationship and I decided to move to Atlanta after school. I was welcomed to this new city by the most exciting thing... An Original ChopShop opening and just down the road from my new apartment! Our old stomping grounds, our favorite place to get food together back then and still now. Not sure why I'm sharing all this history with the public. ChopShop wasn't the reason for our new, beautiful relationship and I know more shops are opening up all over the nation (as they should) but damn, something does feel magical about the timing of it all. Pretty pathetic. They didn't know what was in it, and the portion size was ridiculous for the price. We spent about $30 between two teriyaki chicken bowls that come with avocado and some other sides. There were four pieces of avocado per bowl (not slices mind you, little pieces). We both chose the sweet potato add in, which weren't cooked. She got 1 Brussels sprout, which is a default item. I had them leave mine off. The bowl was 95% rice. Just all around ridiculous for how much it was vs what you got and the pictures they show. Also, it's critical that the chef know what is in the food they are cooking. I got several conflicting answers about allergens, and was handed a menu when I asked about ingredients. I am so happy this type of place exists. This location recently opened and I think they are still figuring out their groove. I ordered two salads (Beets and Danish); two sandwiches (tuna salad and Turkey club); and two cookies to go. The staff forgot to pack the cookies in my to go bag which was a sad but understandable oversight. When I got home 10 minutes later it felt like the sandwiches were already soggy. The flavors were great but the bread was damp either from the pickle that was packed along with the sandwiches or from the insides of the sandwich. The salads held up well and were phenomenal. Why do we have to give a place any stars with the reviews? I am a big fan of creating an impression with guests, especially if things are slow. When you go someplace, no one asks if it is your first time, which is a pet peeve of mine. The menu is overwhelming in terms of what they offer. In terms of the food, the choice I made was beyond underwhelming. I went against my better judgment and got the beef. What I got was someone's idea to put an undercooked tough slice of meat on a kid's meal seede bun and charge me 10 dollars for it. That beef was tougher than my taxes or taking the bar exam! It chewed forever, and to be honest, I got tired of chewing, and I have a dental appointment next week that ibdidmt want to mess up with this meal. It was just overpriced and not impressive food.
