Another great experience at Original Pancake House. This is the second time we've been here in the past 2 years. Today, they were only moderately busy whereas last year, they were maxed. So we got seated right away and water and menus were delivered quickly. Our server showed up quickly too. She took our orders and promptly returned with coffee. The coffee was hot and she returned often for refills. Breakfast came out about 15 minutes later and was as ordered. The 3 of us had: - 49'ers Flapjacks - Corned Beef Hash and Soft-scrambled Eggs - Scrambled Eggs with Sausage Links and Pancakes My wife enjoyed her flapjacks. These are unique too. Sort of a mix between a regular pancake and a crepe. They are thin, not fluffy and sort of rubbery. Sounds weird but it's great. My sister-in-law enjoyed her eggs, sausage and pancakes. I also enjoyed my Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. I did need to salt the hash just a touch. The eggs were perfectly soft-scrambled too. We enjoy eating here and look forward to coming back next time we're in the area. read more

It was a pretty good overall experience. It missed being a great one on fundamentals. Upon entering the restaurant had a funk that presumably was coming from the bathrooms. Beyond that the atmosphere was fine. The waitress was attentive and on point for the most part. The hostess was friendly too. Wait times were fine for our meals, which we all enjoyed. It missed on the basics, really. There was the smell. Then there were the mismatched silverware. Finally the tables and chairs had seen better days. All in all if they fix the funk and tighten up on the details I'd say give them a try. Based on our visit I can't recommend them sadly. read more

My favorite breakfast place on the planet thus far!! I come here quite often and it is always a a hit! My favorite thing here are there pancakes! I also love there bacon and create your own scramblers. I've been coming here for years and I'm sorta a VIP so I never have to wait long and I always get phenomenal service! But before I became a VIP the service was excellent that's why I keep coming back. I even came during COVID and sat outside under a tent!! Had a late weekday breakfast here. Food was good, which is as I expected from my experience at other locations. The service was great. I found the staff to be personable and attentive. I normally expect one or the other not both. As I look up from my third cup of coffee I see the hostess, busser and a waitress eying the crowd just waiting for a request. Shannon who waited on me stayed hopping around but continued to check in with me after clearing my plate. I liked the way she double checked my order making sure I got what I wanted. We have driven by this place scores of times and finally stopped in ... and we are glad we did. Food was good and service was excellent. Coffee (3 stars) was good and strong; the create your own omelette (3 stars - a bit underdone in the center) was tasty and large; the Junior Plate (3 stars overall and the pancakes were 4 stars) of pancakes and sausage was very nice; and the fruit plate was good. Wherever I am headed, I look for one and leave home early to stop by on the weekend. California, Minnesota, and Illinois have consistent taste and flavor. Service varies, especially by location. No complaints about the service here, especially at the open. It gets busy later. Be prepared to wait. I have been patronizing Original Pancake House since it's days back in Dolton, Illinois in the 80's and 90's, then to it's days in Olympia Fields, Illinois in the early 2000's... (I should have done a review sooner).... It is a small and quaint spot, with a "family" feel to it. Fresh Eggs, thick Bacon, scrum-delicious Pancakes, and sinfully-tasty Dutch Baby's! My favorite order is the Bacon Lovers (did they cure the bacon themselves?) meal, with Fresh, Country-Scrambled Eggs and Pecan Pancakes (pecan is extra, but well worth it!)... My husband loves to order the Spinach & Feta Cheese Omelet, with Pecan Pancakes. Or sometimes we order the DUTCH BABY! You have to wait a little longer for it, but you won't be disappointed! This place is usually crowded on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The waiting area is extremely small, and sometimes you end up waiting outside. Once seated, the servers try their best to be attentive. I only have two negatives: 1) The coffee is super STRONG! And, they only have whipping cream for your coffee, as opposed to traditional cream options. So, bring your own cream if you need to. Finally, 2) The ladies bathroom is extremely small-- so small, I can barely fit in the stall and close the door at the same time!!! (And, I'm not overweight!). Since then I have returned to the restaurant several times and the manager has been professional in her behavior and attitude. The other staff members are always pleasant and friendly. If you want to dine alone and request a both it's not happening at this location as the owner doesn't allow one person to sit in a both at this location. That works for me because I will take my money to a location where I can dine alone and still sit in a booth. We're traveling on our way back to Texas and made a quick stop at this restaurant just because it was convenient on our way home...however, it turns out this place is really great. I visited this location today on 10/1/22 and there was hair on my turkey bacon. It almost looked as if It was dropped on the floor and still served to me. I asked to speak to the manager and she informed me that it wasn't hair and that my bacon was patted down with a towel. Either way it's extremely unsanitary and I wonder what the health department would think! This place usually has great good and friendly service but after being informed that they've been patting down bacon with towels for 50 years by management, makes me no longer want to patronize this establishment! read more

I have been eating at Pancake House for 10+ years. The place isn't perfect -- the prices are a bit high, and the coffee has a slightly sour taste to it -- but they do a number of dishes extremely well, so they have remained in my breakfast rotation when in the south 'burbs. Today I had a really bad experience there. I ordered one of my very favorite dishes from PH -- the eggs florentine, poached medium. The eggs arrived with literally Hard Boiled yolks. After one bite I was going to soldier on, after two bites I decided to tell the waitress. About 5 minutes later she brought back the same food, a half eaten english muffin, with some of the spinach and bacon scraped away, and two mangled eggs, over easy with the whites still clear, cut up for some reason. The food was cold. She apologized but told me the policy was that because one of the english muffins was half-eaten, that they would not recook the order. I asked to speak to a manager. A man named "Luis" came to my table and proceeded to argue with me that hard yellow yolks are ok and clear liquid whites are also acceptable for poached medium. This dude was rude and combative, a complete unprofessional jerk. He had the communication/people skills of an angry busboy. Before departing I spoke to a second manager, a woman who was nice and at least knew how to talk to a customer. I am not coming back to Pancake House for a long time. read more

I am a regular here and I do like the new remodel and love my waitress Julie. However my last visit was very disturbing. I was sitting waiting to be served and witnessed the owner speak to one of the bus boys with such disrespect it made me furious.
