I moved to North County, SD a little over 4 years ago and was searching for a froyo establishment as good as what we had up North in T.O. Well damn...I found it at the Yogurt Shack in Carlsbad. Smooth & creamy frozen yogurt of many flavors, and mostly GF, and even some with less sugar. The pricing is nothing like I've ever seen, where you can fill your cup to the top of a bubble lid, at a cost lower than any other froyo store I've ever been to...toppings included! It has a hometown atmosphere, but if you're an easily triggered Lefty, you're probably less likely to embrace it because one of the best and most effective POTUS' this country has ever seen is proudly displayed on the wall behind the regi$ter. I get it... COVID has ruined us all, but for businesses that find ways to stay open and cater to their customers? You need to applaud them for that. I always found that this place is very clean, but even moreso now with the pandemic. We come here often since it's right around the corner from our house and my kids love the mochi and popping bubbles toppings. We were just there 2 weeks ago and again a week ago and each and every time we're there, the staff are so friendly, so helpful with giving us covers for our drive back, and I love the gluten-free options here as well. It's mom and pop shops like these that makes me want to go out and get food, even in a pandemic, to keep supporting them. My kids love this place and I don't blame them. read more

I used to love coming here before the pandemic, but times have changed. The yogurt is OK, but the place is now messy and unwelcoming. The toppings station looked unkept, with lids thrown about a different toppings mixed together. It looked like nobody cared and the girl working there certainly put out that vibe. There are signs everywhere where the owner is basically yelling at people to don't do this, don't do this. I never met the owner but the whole vibe was unhinged. Forget about the fact that the place is now adorned with Trump stuff. I don't care who my froyo guy votes for, but I don't need a giant picture of a dude with an rifle on the wall of a family establishment, which this clearly isn't. Look, the place has mediocre yogurt, it's not clean, and it has the most unwelcoming vibe of any frozen yogurt place I've ever been to. Nothing special. The toppings were all picked over today, spilling all over the counter and when I picked out the spoon to put them on they were crusted on and melted on there- didn't look like they are changed often. Price was $4.75 for a cup which isn't cheap either. The trump paraphernalia everywhere is gross. Won't return just for that reason. read more

This place has the creamiest / best frozen yogurt I have ever tasted. They have every topping known to mankind, and every time I go in the staff is very friendly. I'm blown away people write bad reviews just because of this man's political views. The owner seems to be a nice guy (if it is who I think he is) and I know personally he gives back 50% to the local schools when they do fundraisers. They have a flat rate pricing that is approximately going to cost you half of what it would at any other froyo shop. Can't ever imagine going anywhere else. read more

I always hit this yogurt spot when I'm in Carlsbad. It's so nice to have a locally owned frozen yogurt place as opposed to the typical chains. Months after I wrote this review where I took time to honestly spell out my issues with the establishment, I received a rude message from the owner. Instead of letting me know that they were going to fix their issues, he accused me of lying and not making any sense. I gave my thoughts eloquently and honestly and instead of taking them into consideration, the owner sent me a rude and unnecessary message. I have never received such disrespect from an owner of an establishment. If you cannot accept feedback on your place of business without taking extreme offense and making inaccurate and inappropriate accusations, then you shouldn't own a business and especially shouldn't read reviews on Yelp. This actually scares me for the sake of the business as I brought up possible health code issues. He didn't try to defend himself or fix the issues, just became defensive. Since the new (original) owners took over, it's become one of the best yogurt places around. I love the variety of flavors. They are always much more creative beyond the typical cookies and cream you find everywhere. They also have a nice selection of fresh fruit and candy/cookie toppings, along with a few hot sauces. The girls at the front couldn't be bothered to clean the dispensers or toppings station. In fact, multiple customers in front of me complained of the smell at the topping station. I was staying at the Omni and ask the concierge about a place with good yogurt. She highly recommend the original yogurt shop. When I went in I was greeted by a big flag with president Trump holding a gun. I'm not gonna tell you my political views and I don't personally care what other people think but I thought it was pretty funny and pretty awesome that the owner is not afraid to express his political beliefs, which is his right. I went over and got my cup and filled it up with salted caramel and butter finger pieces and I could not believe his price was so affordable and by far some of the best yogurt I've ever had. People that want to voice your political opinions should really just enjoy your life and not worry about what other people think.
