The reason I don't like these types of platforms are because they are full of reviews from people that just do not seem reasonable. The towing business first of all is likely a very tough business to receive positive reviews. When a vehicle is towed it's likely because of 3 primary scenarios (an accident where the car is not able to be driven, a broken down vehicle, or a vehicle parked in a no parking spot.) Either of the listed scenarios are starting off with unhappy automobile owners so reviews are likely going to be positive. With all that said, I have recently had a car that was in a pretty bad accident...thankfully no one was injured by the grace of God! The Crystal Lake police officer was pretty awesome on her own and we are always thankful to our police! The officer called Ormsby Towing, owned by Tom Ormsby I have come to find out. This company has been in business since 1948! That's 76 years of being in business. My personal experience has been very favorable. BTW, I should mention, I have no ties or relations to the owner or management, or any employee of Ormsby's. I can tell you this, I was treated kindly by Tom Ormsby and he is fair and patient. He also could have easily charged my by the day that our totalled car was in his storage (locked, fully enclosed building). The car was kept safe and he was very nice to work with. I will absolutely be recommending his services to others I know and care about as well as, perhaps even purchase a car from him in the near future. You don't stay in business in the midwest for 78 years without offering something of value. Lastly, the Ormsby showroom is so clean that you literally could eat off the floor, even though I don't eat off of floors :-) I hope this review adds value to anyone looking for a towing or auto sales company. read more

YIKES I really never post reviews, but I feel like I HAVE to so that people know what they're getting into with this shop... Back in August my car got some body damage and was brought to ABRA Auto Body right by this shop. Well, it's alternator also decided to go out on me, so once the body shop fixed the body damage they graciously brought it to Ormsby since it was close (I live 2 hours away from Crystal Lake and was visiting my family when this all happened, so I wasn't nearby). Needless to say we got the alternator replaced and all went well. UNTIL about a month or 2 later when it started having problems again. We assumed the car was having new problems and just didn't have time to bring it to get checked out, so we replaced the battery... and that helped but didn't solve any of our problems. So we then brought it to a shop local to us and guess what? The alternator that this shop put into it was bad... so here we are, having to put another alternator into our car a few months later because Ormsby decided what our car needed was a bad alternator. So keep this in mind if you plan on going here... months down the line you may have to redo what you paid them to do... read more

Worst dealership ever. The old men that own this shop are total crooks. They'll lie and fix anything up just enough to make the piece of shit cars there look decent for the first 500 miles you have it. Backstory you may ask? I purchased an 06' Chevy impala there last year. Wanna know how long it lasted me? 8months. Wanna know what was wrong with it? Needed new sensor wires, all break pads where shot, transmission fluid was leaking, oil pan gasket was shot, air conditioning didn't work, then the #2 and #6th top engine gaskets where broke and car was misfiring. I bought that car for $6 grand and then Kelly blue booked it and the car was only worth $2 grand. Total impulse buy and mistake on my part for not looking other places. But these guys lied to me and told me that I didn't have a warranty when I showed them the picture with the purchase of the car that said it was a 3 month warranty. They looked at it for me when I said something was wrong then tried to tell me nothing was wrong when there was clearly a problem. Then I came back and they told me there's nothing I could do and where hiding from me when I came in to complain. Took them 20 minutes to come to their desk then they basically just told me to get fucked. Complete jag offs. Rudest people you'll ever meet. They showed no remorse. $8,000 later i junked it and only got $200 back. read more

I am a motorcyclist, and an Ormsby tow truck cut in front of me , and cut me off. I honked my horn, the driver waves at me , like, it's ok, I'm a tow truck driver! If I wouldn't have braked heavily, there would've been a collision I reported via phone, talked to the owner, he said, "I guess he didn't see you! I did the same thing yesterday" if you're a biker,or just a person that thinks a business, and it's owner should have some accountability,please share.!!! This is absurd! my experience buying from ormsby.. Well I found the truck I wanted. Ran good enough for the test drive with in a week major problems. They are liars and horrible mechanics. So far I have spent 1684.00 in repairs and my fault for not checking kelly blue book on the truck I purchased. They charged double of the BLUE BOOK PRICE. I called them asked if they would help in anyway at all I got the same old song and dance someone would get back to me here now weeks later no call. Well no wonder the place has went no where but down hill since the original owners have passed on. So please do your home work b 4 buying from this shit hole.
