Just wow. What a hidden gem in the Bucktown neighborhood. Right under the train, it serves organic breakfast & lunch as well as specialty drinks. They even make their own pistachio milk!! The chai lattes are not nearly as sweet as Starbucks, so be sure to add sugar if that's what you're looking for. The goat cheese salad or the valerse bagels are my go Ro's (I'm vegetarian), but my boyfriend really likes the breakfast burrito! The location is near a busy intersection, kitty corner from McDonald's. We came during COVID, and we were able to dine in at their 6ft- spaced out tables. Everyone also wore masks, and they offered contactless pay. We ordered ice coffee, a latte, the breakfast burrito, and the breakfast egg sandwich for a total around $20 - not bad! Our experience was pretty good! It was definitely better than supporting a Starbucks- a local spot with reasonably priced food and drinks. My sandwich was very fresh and tasty, but it seemed like it was missing a sauce. The eggs were well prepared and I enjoyed the havarti but maybe something like a salsa or hot sauce or condiment couldve added something. The location is great if you're roaming around the neighborhood on foot (not so much if you need to park). My favorites about this particular coffee shop include the esthetic on the inside (she cute!) and the service from the staff (they friendly!) The coffee wasn't my all time favorite, but they also have a huge sign by the door, talking about their mission keeping things simple and healthy (which I greatly respect) but sometimes equivalents over to some interesting concoctions. read more

Wanted to detail my experience at this cafe. I recently placed an order from the app Too Good to Go. The pickup time was between 3:30p-4:30p. I came to pick up at 4:40p - ten minutes beyond the pickup time; bear in mind, the cafe closes at 5p. The waitress was quite rude and firm on her stance that since I came late, I wouldn't be able to pick up my order. I asked for further explanation and was directed to speak with the manager over the phone. After several minutes of back and forth, I was offered a pastry the size of an oreo - no refund, I was told to 'take it up with Too Good to Go'. I don't know how to escalate this situation w Too Good to Go, and I honestly can't be bothered to do it over the $5 I paid. Overall, I can't be too mad, as I was late for pick up. But pretty disappointed that a locally owned coffee shop would treat their 3rd party patrons in such a way. read more

I happened to get off the bus and needed a coffee. I'm from out of town. I don't know the area well. I saw a "chain" coffee and started to walk towards it, but turned ever so slightly and across the street under the L train I saw a small cafe. I saw the window had words like "organic" and "vegan", so the decision was made. Well! I'm sooooo glad I found Oromo Cafe. The coffee smelled great, the store is clean, the music is great, the staff are friendly, and they had a sample of a little vegan nut and seed bar they offer. I love nuts and seeds and vegan snack bars. This item, the matcha nut energy bar, was absolutely amazing. It might be the single best tasting item I've ever eaten. Maybe I'm weird and maybe you won't like it, but I want another one. I'm coming back as often as I can while I'm staying in Chicago. Oh, the coffee is outstanding as well and they offer free refills for "stay-in" orders. I love this cafe. Love it. Highly recommend you try it. Prove me wrong, I don't think you can. read more

Since moving to Chicago last year, I've been on the hunt for a great coffee shop. This one is on my short list of the best I have discovered in all of the city. Oromo is located in the Bucktown area. No place to park really, but I did get lucky and found a spot on the same block. First the coffee is excellent. I had an iced latte and it was awesome. Not bitter at all and very smooth. Not tons of ice and the barista was really friendly. I also grabbed a scone that was very good. I would order that again in a heartbeat. This place is hard to find - sort of hidden away under the train (Western Blue Line) and across the street from Starbucks, so no need to go to Starbucks when in this area!! I try my best not to give excessively negative reviews on yelp, because I find them generally unhelpful and complain-y, but have you heard the saying "good service can make a good meal taste great, and bad service can make a great meal taste awful." Well how does no service make a meal taste... apparently 3/5 stars? So we went on a Sunday morning, which I understand is the busiest time for a breakfast-y type of restaurant to serve, but it really does test one's chops as an institution. There may have been 8 different groups of people already waiting for their food when we got there and there was nobody in line. I had to triple check my apple watch to make sure I was right, but we ended up waiting for 19 minutes at the front of the line and nobody, not a single soul, came to take our order. They seemed to be quite back logged with other orders (and maybe online orders), but we just had to walk out of there without even talking to a cashier. By the time we left, there were like 5 other groups behind us in line. This is obviously disappointing because 1) I hate posting negative reviews and 2) the food and drink selection actually looked quite good, and 3) they're DOG FRIENDLY, which I am so excited about!! but hopefully this review is helpful to those looking to vet the service and the speed (or lack thereof) of this cafe. We discovered Oromo last year, and we are so glad we did! They have so many unique vegan options, truly delicious foods, and the coffees are exceptional. This place is Golden. One large latte, one coconut caramel iced latte, and two breakfast naan's for $16 bucks! The breakfast naan was a good size and guaranteed to keep you full.
