Right off the Damen Blue Line, Oromo Cafe is a great stop for coffee or breakfast. Service is friendly and efficient, and the space is clean, quiet, and calm on a Friday morning. Their Pesto-Egg-Avocado breakfast sandwich was so good! The bread was so fluffy and warm, and the egg was perfectly scrambled (fluffy). I really enjoyed how saucy it was too. Flavor was great! A great Turkish cafe that has a perfect vibe for reading in such a cold weather! I ordered their signature pistachio rose latte and a square baklava. Though the baklava was kind of small, it was strongly sweetened so that one has to take a few bites to finally finish it. We ordered: +a cafe latte with almond milk +and Hazelnut Horchata Latte - prepared with housemade toasted hazelnut milk, rice milk, coconut milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and espresso +a potato-filled pogača I really enjoyed the Hazelnut Horchata Latte - it was strong, creamy, and delicious! The pogača was heated through, but the exterior was a little too thick and hard. The filling was also more bland and kind of 'chunky'. Staff were kind, but they did totally forget to make us one of our drinks. There's a handful of seating inside, and I loved how they utilized the space to make it look more open and spacious. Visited this coffee shop one morning to get some coffee and breakfast and to get some work done. I appreciate all of the tables with outlets that are available, making it a great place to hang out and work! I tried the iced pistachio & rose latte and the iced coconut & caramel latte. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of either of these drinks. I couldn't taste the flavors very well for either of the drinks, so I wasn't a fan. For the food, they have a breakfast menu that isn't really visible on their large menu above the counter, but on a paper menu at the cashier. I ordered a bagel sandwich and a caprese panini. I wanted (oro)MO out of this cafe. Located under the Western Blue Line, the location of this place is super cute. They have tons of tables and wifi if you want to sit and work. The staff was nice, but a little slow considering there weren't that many people in. Warning, stay away from the pistachio milk! For 3 coffees (two lattes and an americano) it was ~$20 which is a bit steep. The lattes both had the pistachio milk and they were undrinkable (no amount of sugar helped); I wanted to be adventurous but would stick to the basics here. Even the Americano was just fine nothing to write home about but at least better than the lattes. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the coffee and price. There are other places nearby that also serve brunch and are a better deal. read more

This was the meeting spot for a group run I did recently, so I got cold brew after the run. There were a lot of us, so it was a long line but it moved quickly and the staff were friendly. The cold brew here is amazing - some of the best I've had in Chicago. Just so good. That's the only thing I got so can't speak about anything else but get the cold brew. This is a great spot for those that need to get some coffee before jumping on the L. The staff here was ok. This coffee shop is one of the most unique spots in the city, perfectly hidden under the Western blue line stop. They specialize in Turkish coffee which I tastes rich. Their options were endless. Great little cafe tucked under the Western stop! Oromo is very open with tables along the side, a few bar seats and a communal table in the center. While we only just dipped our toes into their offerings, I can tell the rest of the menu is also high quality! As a lactose intolerant person, I am blown away by their selection of house made nut milks for their lattes! I opted for a pistachio rose latte which was lovely because it was not too sweet and had the nice subtle flavors one would expect. We also got the breakfast naan and pesto egg bagel. In the sea of coffee shops in Chicago (and Oromo bucktown might have like 5 competitors within walking distance) its' hard to stand out. I'm sad it took me so long to finally star Oromo, because they have standout differences. The Turkish coffee is worth ordering - I like the cardamom but they have a variety of options, and this take is a nice alternative to my standard orders. Plus they serve it on a delightful tray with Turkish delight accompanying... this won me over right there. Food options here are unique: house-made protein bites, grains and bars that feature a lot of nuts, cardamom, dates, but also a whole variety of things. I'm positive you're not getting this elsewhere. But then they started serving kitchen-made breakfast sandwiches. It had a few seasonal specials the last time I was here, and I liked it. They had the Mexican Oat Mocha. It was about $5 for a regular cup. Rich flavor with the espresso, oat milk, and spiced mocha. As for the food, you also have to eat. It's about $10 for a bagel sandwich. Has a few vegetarian choices. Last time I got the Green Power. As you can imagine, there's green vegetables in it. This comes with avocado, balsamic glaze, pesto, and spinach. Has a lot to choose from. It's best known for coffee, and there's quite a lot of it. The interior is pretty big and there's a decent amount of seating. The menu also has a bunch of good food options but we only had coffee so I'm not sure how the food is here. My vanilla latte was perfect - perfectly balanced and not too sweet. My husbands pistachio and rose latte was not as good since it had a weird sour aftertaste. Took my husband to Oromo for his first Turkish coffee experience and it didn't disappoint. We got Ottoman and a Portuguese tart. Beautiful presentation and flavorful shot of coffee! The candy that came with the coffee was a bit sticky but tasted good with coffee. The tart was yummy - just wish it's served warm haha. Highly recommend this place if you want to experience Turkish coffee. So, I'm kind of a regular here, stopping in at about once a week or so for work and a change of scenery. It's a great location and place to get work done. The menu isn't cheap, but not very pricey for the area/era. The main down side is that it closes at 5:00 p.m., so earlier than a few others in the area, but seems reasonable for their business and peak coffee hour timing. Always great service. Besides the hundred of great reviews; we want to express that the unique clean Turkish menu and aesthetics, is what really drew us in. Just note a few things, we came on a slow school day, and easily found parking on a side street near western. But usually this is a high traffic area so if you're strolling by the 606, fell free to talk a quick walk if you're looking for a gluten, vegan free meal. I decided to try a frozen blend, the Pistachio + Matcha, wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm excited to come back and try the Pistachio + Rose. We also grabbed a Caprese Panini & my sister tried out the Turkish coffee with sweet cream. I've been going to Oromo Cafe mostly in Lincoln Square for at least four years, but this time I was near the Bucktown location. I ordered the usual Mexican Chiapas Blend which is my favorite. I was very disappointed that it did not have the usual robust taste. I returned it to the barista and she asked me if I wanted to try the Dark Roast, I said OK but that wasn't much better. My friend ordered hot tea and she said it had a good taste. She ordered a Tomato Soup to go but she wasn't happy, it had the color of paprika, and it looked almost like chili. She said she poured the soup into a saucepan and then took the photo. I always give a minimum of four stars but I'm going with two stars this time. I'm probably going to go to the Lincoln Square location from now on, it's closer to me anyway. read more

Right under the Ohare western blue line station, across the street from a Starbs that you'll never need to visit again. Plenty of seating and outlets inside to park with a laptop but if you get there too late in the morning you may not get your first choice seat. read more

There are tons of cafes in Chicago serving great coffee and pastries. We came across Oromo as we were getting off the CTA Western stop and glad we decided to check it out. Here's my take on the experience: Quality of food: Great. We got their breakfast Naan that came with: toasted Naan, Labne Yogurt Spread, Spicy Olive Oil, Zatar, Two Fried Eggs, Feta Cheese, Parsley, and Green Olives. The feta cheese and zatar oil were a match made in heaven served over a crispy piece of fresh naan. To drink, we got the the 12oz Turmeric Ginger Latte that came with Turmeric Ginger Chai and Milk. This was very good and felt very soothing. Decor: nice and pleasant. The cafe had big glass windows and it was very enjoyable to sit next to one and watch all the commotion of a big city while sipping a nice hot beverage. Cleanliness: good. They were regularly cleaning the tables. Service: good. The cashiers were fast but pleasant at taking orders. Price: reasonable. Our food was around $8 and our latte was around $5. Really loved the idea and vibe of the coffee shop. It serves a good variety of food and drinks, and has a table of locally made knick knacks that you can purchase by directly venmoing the artist. I really love this kind of community engagement. It's wonderful seeing small businesses supporting other small businesses. The shop is clean and peaceful. Although it's under the train, it's not too disruptive. You can definitely hear the train go by, but that didn't disrupt my music or reading. Still had a very lovely time.
