You know that uuugh feeling when you need to buy a car and you're already expecting the dreadful experience with a salesman? That was my experience at this location. After a week of shopping for Mattresses, I narrowed my options to two specific ones. We came to this Costa Mesa location because there's a Sit n Sleep right next door and a Custom Comforts across the streets. We went into Sit n Sleep first and had a very pleasant experience. Then came into Ortho (why the heck not!) since we were already there. It was around 5:30p and the store was very very dim. You would have thought it was closed (if not for the red open sign) comparing to the bright showroom next door. I immediately let the salesman know that I am browsing tonight and I am not ready to purchase until next month because I need time to get rid of my current mattress. I told him which two mattresses I'm interested in and again I'm just curios. He asked which stores I went to and I mentioned we just came from Sit n Sleep. I imagine they probably get that response a lot from customers. But for the next 10 minutes, this guy goes on and on about how it's the same price across all the mattress stores because the prices are standardized and most people like myself are just wasting time. I appreciate the education but did not appreciate the sales pitch. Towards the end, he tried to pressure me to make a purchase and got his clipboard ready to write me an invoice. After again saying I'm not ready to buy, he asked why. At this point I am already feeling uncomfortable and annoyed. He may be right on the similar pricing with these mattress stores but that attitude will not close a sale for me. When two stores have competitive pricing, the next thing that will make you win is your service. When I'm ready, I'll go next door where the salesman was very friendly and does not make you feel dumb. read more

The two stars are actually for the mattress (which is very nice) and the sales person (who was wonderful). What wrecked this whole thing for me was the delivery and lack of follow up service with the manager of the store. I was buying a mattress for my daughter's room and convinced my husband to come to a couple of places and see the difference between the $600 price point and the $1000 price point. He agreed it was better and we bought the more expensive set. When I measured for the box spring, I measured from the bottom of the frame up to where the top of the box spring would be - not realizing how thick mattresses can be now. I ordered the 9 inch box spring with the set. When they came to deliver it, the first thing they did is cut off the plastic and put it on the bed. They did this before I signed for the items. Apparently, once they take off the the plastic, they have sealed the deal and if anything is wrong from that point forward, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for the money, time and hassle it takes to fix it. So the two guys bring the mattress set in, put it on the bed and THE DELIVERY GUY actually says to me, wow, that's WAY to tall. I agreed and asked him to take it back and he said no, to call the store, which I did. I found out it was another $100 for them to bring out a new smaller box spring. I told them they guys were still here - they literally hadn't even been in my home for 10 minutes. The sales person was trying to get the guys to work with me and that's when they said they cut off the plastic so it was mine. After a very confusing and frustrating 10 minutes I just let them leave since they obviously didn't care and weren't going to do anything to help me. And the sales person said she would work with me and agreed to deliver the new box spring for $49 since they cut off the plastic before I signed for it, thus agreeing to the delivery. She also apologized saying it was a third party company and she didn't have control over them. It was closing time for her and so I told her I would call her back to arrange it. So I called back a day later and got the store manager. He said he knew nothing about this, she hadn't talked to him about it at all and gave me a lecture about his profit margin. This is where it just got kind of weird. He said the best he would do is delivery for $69 because that was his cost, and again explained that he had to make a profit and if he went any lower it was costing him money. This is over a difference of $20 when I spent over $1000 on a mattress set. He also complained to me that I got free delivery and removal as part of my purchase. (As an aside, the city where I live will take away large items at no cost a certain number of times each year. And I'm sure the delivery cost is built into the price so I doubt it's free, just not line item cost.) He said he wouldn't honor what the sales person set up. He said if SHE wanted to honor it, I could track her down by calling back in a couple of days to another store in Brea and seeing if she would honor it. I don't want to deal with people like this. What a complete and utter disappointment. Here's what I would do if I knew then what I know now: 1) Measure the total height of the box spring and mattress together and see where it sits on your frame. A lot of older bed frames that were made before mattresses got so thick don't look as nice unless you use the low profile box spring. 2) When the delivery people come, tell them NOT to take the plastic off until you're agreeing to keep the mattress. Let them know you will not sign for the set unless you're agreeing to keep it.You're better off returning it, getting your money back and buying it again or getting something else rather than dealing with the hassle and expense of having them come back and forth trying to get the right thing. Again, I like the mattress since it's really the best one I found for the price. The sales person and manager both told me the delivery people are from a third party and they're limited on what they can do but still I don't know why they would use such a lousy delivery company. I'm going to keep the mattress set as is since I don't want to deal with them and it's hard not feel like the whole thing just got really weird. But every time I look at the bed, it's disappointing that it's so tall for the frame. read more

Wanted to share my shopping experience at Ortho Mattress. I've been shopping at several different mattress stores looking for an adjustable full-size bed for my 89-year-old mother. While I almost purchased one at a shop next-door to Ortho Mattress the knowledge of the people at Ortho Mattress on adjustable beds was what I was looking for. I also was looking to add to the bed a bed safety rail. The portable bed rail I have fits the adjustable bed perfectly. I was able to adjust the height of the bed by the adjustable sized legs. This is such a wonderful bed as I really didn't want to get a hospital bed for my mom who is living with us in our home. Jason, the store manager has been so helpful. As well as several of the other people at the store that I talked to over the phone were very knowledgeable. I encourage anyone that is taking care of their parents at home to get an adjustable bed if they can afford to do so. It makes it so much easier for my mom to get a good nights rest and for me the caregiver to be able to get her in and out of bed easily. read more

I was here a couple hours ago. My experience was so good that I had to come here and write a review. Michelle greeted me with a smile and upbeat energy as entered the store. I was there to get a neck pillow but i also wasn't sure. She helped me decide by having me lay down and try different pillows on the same adjustable base i have home and a similar mattress. I don't even want to give 1 star, but am forced to. I purchased a Stearns & Foster. After about 3 months the middle started sagging. I only weight 170 lbs. I called and filed a claim. They sent some guy out to inspect it. Right from the beginning he could see the sagging in the middle. Said a lot of times these types of mattresses have air pockets or bubbles, then when they break or burst, sagging happens. I got a letter 2 days later saying based on the measurements, there is no sagging on the sides. SIDES!?!? I NEVER said there was!! I said in the middle!!! Called them to tell them that. The first time they send somebody out to inspect the bed it's free. Anytime after the first its $50. "But if I'm sure that it's sagging, I wouldn't mind spending the money for a new mattress..." F YOU!!! Give you $50 to have you come out and tell me some other excuse...? Terrible company to buy a mattress from!! I wish I had read the reviews on them before I went in, purchased a mattress, and am now writing another bad review. STAY AWAY!!! As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Buying a mattress is hard to do and we were overdue. Frankly, it's hard to k ow what you want. Boy, can you spend money fast too if you don't pay attention. That's why we wanted to take a moment to mention how helpful Candee was at Ortho. She spent her time trying to find the right match for us instead if just steering us toward to most expensive mattresses. I was even getting a little lazy with testing out the mattresses, but Candee made sure I did. Good thing too, because it helped me find the right one after spending a few extra mins laying down on each to make sure we picked the right one. I am a fool for purchasing a 2nd mattress through this company, even after my 1st experience was a bad one. Our 2nd mattress - a Cal King Elgin PT Mattress cost $1300. Delivery was free and they removed their old mattress. Our sales rep was Martin Nguyen, also a regional manager. Within 2 years the mattress is sinking on both sides at a ridiculous level. I have turned the mattress regularly as suggested, my wife and I are not heavy, it is a sad sad excuse for a mattress. They claim to have a 10 year warranty, but good luck getting that fulfilled. If you are an acrobat then you might have a small chance of jumping through all of their hoops, including a $75 fee for them to come out and "look" at the mattress and decide if it qualifies for a return. They said they will measure the depth of the sinking to decide if it is "natural" or "unnatural." Then they will search the mattress to make sure it is not 'dirty' anywhere, otherwise they would not take it back. I am getting pissed just sitting here writing this review. Anyhow, find yourself another mattress company besides this one. Even if you do just 5 minutes more review on Yelp you will be able to see that Ortho Mattress has a long history of bad reviews. Check out all of their 10 locations. Like I said, I blame myself for not doing research and then actually purchasing a 2nd mattress through this company. read more

Went in over the Labor Day Weekend to see if they had any good sales, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they had everything at a really great price. When we walked in, we were greeted by Michelle who promptly introduced herself. My mom was looking at getting a new mattress, but wasn't sure what she wanted. After a few questions from Michelle regarding what kind of bed she liked, we were off testing out the select mattress' that she thought would work well! It only took 15 minutes for Michelle to find my mom the best bed. She knew exactly where to take us when my mom described what she did and did not like about certain ones. She is super knowledgeable and wanted to make sure that my mom had the right choice. While she was showing my mom some beds, she also helped me pick out the best bed for me. I have been in the market for a new bed for a while now. On Sunday I decided to have a look at OrthoMattress. Walking in, I was warmly greeted by Anna. She asked me a few questions and off we went to test out mattresses. Anna was extremely knowledgeable, personable and patient. I decided on a bed and to my surprise, it was in their inventory and would be delivered the following day! Yep, she even threw in 2 amazing iComfort pillows complimentary...by far one of the best pillows I have ever owned! Mattresses to me are like buying a car....always some sort of pressure, hoping to get a fair deal, etc. With Anna, it was as easy as can be! I highly recommend her for all your bedding needs. Monday rolls around and my delivery guys arrive on time with my bed. I'm their last delivery of the day. I felt so bad as it was so stinking hot out, (and they had had to have been tired), I offered them some Powerade to which they happily accepted. They were super professional and courteous! Taking out my old bed and box spring and replacing with my new platform and bed. Due to the platform having legs, the slats had to be taken off of my old bed to which they had no problem removing for me and even helped put the new mattress protector on. Before they left, they ensured me that the bed was working and gave a tutorial on the adjustable bed remote. They also gave direction on the upkeep of the bed. Again, easy as can be! Ortho Mattress, I know there are many places I could have went to shop for a mattress, including your competition next door, but something told me to walk thru your doors first! My husband and I bought our amazing adjustable bed here 5+ years ago, which we consider one of the best things we have ever spent over $1000 on. We have enjoyed all of it's features, including the memory foam mattress we splurged on. Fast forward to now, and an issue with the remote control for the bed's adjustment features has caused me not to be able to raise the head of the bed. The only reason we bought adjustable was so I could raise the head of the bed on my side to combat my acid reflux issue. So with the remote button no longer working for that, I am not happy. The Ortho store gave me a number to call to buy a new remote. But that company says it's not their remote. At this point, I am really not happy. Ortho needs to be more customer responsive, otherwise, buying at another store that is is what I recommend. One that will stand behind what they sell, and not pass you off to someone else! read more
