I was having trouble with my Lexus and the Lexus service department was too busy to help me. I Yelped Battery Service and Oscars Auto Service cane up. I called and Oscar told me to bring the car in. It was pretty busy when I got there but Mike helped me right away. Although they weren't able to change my battery as my car is a hybrid, at least I knew what the problem was. So love this group of folks. Talk about honest and trustworthy. I left my car there this morning due to transmission issues. Once they checked it out and realized there was a sensor they wouldn't be able to replace, they didn't hesitate to call me and let me know. They recommended I go to a transmission shop and when I asked for a recommendation, they had one for me. I was able to pick up my car and head over to the other mechanic before the shops closed. The best part is I wasn't charged a crazy price like I would've been if I had gone to the Mazda dealership. I'm grateful for honest, hard-working mechanics who look out for their customers. My mom referred me to this shop. This is a small business located right across Pu'uhale Elementary School. They have always been very honest with the work that needs to be done. Just yesterday, I asked if I could get a safety check. The worker, Roger, explained to me that my tire was just about ready to blow & that since it's from Lex Brodies, I should head there to get it changed and see if they could get my safety check done at once so I don't need to keep going back and forth. That was very thoughtful of him, but I refuse to go to anywhere else other than Oscar's unless I HAVE to. They've been very good with time management each time I brought my car there. I will not go to any other car shop in Honolulu besides Oscar's. Now that I got that off my chest, I'll give you a couple anecdotes and some of my opinions. My first experience with Oscar's came when I first moved to the island and I needed and I needed a car inspection. As someone who first moved to the island I didn't know anywhere to go, every shop I went to had a three week wait for a simple inspection. Finally, in comes Oscar's who was able to get me in the same day (actually only a 30 minute wait) that I requested an inspection. They got me in and got me out in a quick fashion. Alright, second short story. My third time at Oscar's came after I noticed a knocking noise under my 4Runner which ended up being my muffler and piping being eaten away by rust from a couple years in Connecticut. I asked for a quote, the attendant said that they could only replace it with stock parts which would cost roughly $700 in parts and labor. Without me asking, he suggested I go up the street to a shop that specializes in muffler systems that would be much cheaper and, he added, provides a quality product. So I ran up the street and got a quote for $400, saving me $300. With all that being said, I think Oscar's proved to me that they are a trustworthy local business that presents their services in an expeditious and quality manner with integrity. Every person I have met there has been very friendly (including Oscar, who is the man) and honest. The prices are fair, and they won't hesitate to provide you with a better option if they believe someone could do it better, this alone ensures me that they operate with integrity. Anyone needing car service shouldn't hesitate to head to Oscar's. I would like to add, I did go there to replace all my shocks (also eaten away by rust from Connecticut) for a cost of about $400, parts and labor included. Finding a good mechanic for ones car is more often a game of Russian Roulette. There's always a chance you're going to shoot yourself in the head. Over my 42 years in outside sales, driving many of my cars to the junkyard, I've been culled and gutted by many mechanics. My father had used Oscars for many years but I never thought to give them a try till this week. A friend of my mine also had some very "un"mechanic compliments so I thought, I may as well try them out. I highly recommend Oscars Auto Service as having the most honest, friendly, and sincere people I've ever dealt with. Visiting my son At Hickam AF base I noticed his 2011 Durango was leaking a lot of oil. Called Oscars auto service asked he could possibly get this fixed on Monday 8/16 because I was leaving back to mn Tuesday and he needed someone to pick up car with him . I was lucky to have learned of these guys. Mike is my guy and I feel he can be trusted after the service I have received from him. The rest of the staff there that I noticed in passing seems like a great team of guys that do their best to take care of the customers as an all around team. It's nice to see a group of hard working guys enjoy what they're doing and work together. I had a shop that I went to PRIOR to knowing Oscar's and I received decent care, but defective parts and then a long hassle to get the parts replaced out to correct the issue! That shop still hasn't replaced the parts! I rather get it replaced at Oscar's but need to wait due to budget. I've been coming here for a few years now and was never disappointed. I found this place though my friend who is Oscar's niece haha. I absolutely have no idea about car maintenance and what not, but Oscar and his staff always took care of my car. I had to change my brakes one year, and a timing belt at another, then my tires this past year; all of which they gave me a reasonable and affordable price for their service. I love Oscars! They're very reliable, very quick, and the workers are friendly. My mom first recommended them to me because they were good and their prices were affordable. I don't know anything about cars, so I like that they always explain to me what's wrong or what I need. Also, there were several times I took my car in to get serviced, and they found out something needed to be replaced or fixed. Each time, they've always had the replacement parts my car needed on hand in their warehouse, so I've never had to leave my car at the shop overnight; they were able to pickup the part and fix my car in the same sitting. My husband and I live on Kauai. We were trying to decide whether or not to purchase a used car from a dealership in Honolulu. It is so hard to find an honest mechanic and those at Oscar's Auto Service are definitely not very honest. I called and asked them how much it would cost for them to refill my freon for my air conditioning and they told me "a few bucks". My bill was actually almost $100 for a task that I believe most mechanics would not even charge half of that. And it took them nearly five hours for completion. This is not a place I would ever visit or take my business to again. I recommend that no one go here. It was a mistake since my regular mechanic was off island on vacation. Came here to have a pre-purchase inspection completed on a vehicle I was considering buying. I was greeted by Oscar and was immediately impressed by his attitude. He knew I was considering buying the vehicle and asked about the overall vehicle history and purchase before even inspecting the car. I truly felt he had my best interest in mind. After inspecting the vehicle he had one of his mechanics take it on a test drive with me in the car to make sure it had no other issues. All-in-all it was a quick and easy inspection that left me much more confident in my purchase. Most surprising was that, as a first-time customer, Oscar did not even charge me for the service. Don't come to this place while they're on lunch, which is around 1pm. They'll turn you away. Went in for safety check, all 10+ workers eating and no one acknowledged. I asked about a safety check and they told me to come back. This is my second trip to them this week. I asked if it was going to be the same the following day. "We don't know. We don't know when we will be hungry again," was the response I got. Very unprofessional. Apparently not 1 of them could do what I needed until lunch was done. Never coming back here again. They are dishonest and overcharging. I had two more car problems since January. One of them involving my power steering pump after they just "replaced" my power steering hose. When i got it back, I noticed a super charge sound driving home, looking under my hood, my whole power steering line and pump was leaking and THAT needed to be replaced.. went to a different shop, and they said I got scammed $500. Called for a ballpark on having my parking brake repaired - mind you, my brother is a mechanic. I would just take my vehicles to him if he lived on island. Was told "starting" cost would be $350-450. WHAT??? And if I needed my brakes adjusted it would be more! Rear brake adjustment uses 1 tool & takes 10 minutes! I don't know if it's because I'm female & the usual mechanics think females are clueless, but there is NO WAY I'd ever even consider taking my car here. Con/rip-off artists. read more

if someone is charging $350 to $450 to change the front brakes then you are getting ripped off. you can purchase a set of front brakes for $50 or less it takes max 30 minutes, now if you are changing the rotors and front brakes then the parts are around $150 - $200 takes about 1 to 1.15 hours max lets say even at $90 an hour then total should not be more than $300 -$325 max rear brakes are different for drums and brake shoes maybe $400 read more

Having now had 2 cars serviced at Oscar's (my car twice and my fiance's once) I can say with experience and confidence that their service is top notch. Just today I took my 91' Honda civic in (with no appointment) a little before 1pm. I called before I got there and asked for a rough estimate on how long the whole process would take. I was told by Hector that it would be around 3 hours. Not too shabby for no appointment and with it being a Friday. And what time was my car ready by? Just after 4pm. Mike (who was the main mechanic that helped me) had also called after his initial assessment of my car to inform me of what needed to be done, how much it would be, and how long it would take. He actually asked when I needed the car, instead of just telling me when it would be ready by. Both Mike and Hector were professional each time I spoke with them. They were friendly and informative without every making me feel like I knew nothing about cars--(which I have probably the most limited knowledge on). Also---for the work they did on my car today, another auto service company would have charged me at least $200 more! read more

I've been going to Oscar's for all my major car problems. They were recommended to me by a friend. Bryan has always been the one I go to for help and in the past they have always taken care of my car and treated me respectfully. Bryan always walked me through the work that needed to be done and showed it to me on my car when it was on the lift. I've always felt that they have given me fair prices as well. They even offered me a finance plan when the bill to change my brake/gas lines (they were leaking from rust damage due to salt on the roads from winters in Chicago) was too steep for me to pay all at once. Overall I've spent close to $2500 at Oscar's shop. It was only recently I've felt their service has declined. I had my car towed several months back to their shop because it wouldn't start. Oscar charged me $400 to put in a new starter. It seemed expensive to me, but it was either that or tow my car to a different shop. Today my car had trouble starting and I knew it was the alternator. I took my car in and this time Mike helped me. He told me it would cost $450 for the job. I asked him for a break down of the cost, which he gave me, but when I told him I wanted to take the car I got the vibe that he was trying to pressure me into getting work done. He told me the charge wouldn't hold (which I knew) and that it might stall on me while I'm driving and that I would get stuck. I said, "Okay, thanks," then he tells me he has to charge me $25 for diagnosing my car. I've never been charged at Oscar's when they diagnosed my car in the past. Even when they didn't do any work. I feel that I'm being treated as just another dollar sign. Sorry to say, I'd rather bring my car elsewhere. read more
