After a long day of walking around and hiking in Zion, Oscar's Cafe in Springdale was exactly the kind of place I wanted for dinner! After seeing all of the amazing reviews on Yelp, I just had to stop by! I stopped by around 7 in the evening and sat outside, which ended up being such a good choice. The outdoor seating had a really fun, relaxed feel to it, and it was nice to just sit down, eat, and enjoy the Springdale atmosphere! We were at the Zion National Park all day. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak on sourdough with just the steak and cheese, and it was so yummy! The meat was juicy and tender. The sandwich itself was satisfying. The sourdough was a great addition too. I don't typically have sourdough bread with my philly cheesesteak. I also had the chips with guacamole and salsa, and those were so delicious! The guacamole and salsa tasted fresh and homemade! I ended up eating all of the guacamole with the chips! It was so yummy. The salsa was slightly spicy. I also tried a bite of the garlic cheeseburger, and the patty was juicy and flavorful. I only had a bite, but it was enough to know that would be a good choice too! Service was great, and everything about the meal felt easy and enjoyable. After a full day at Zion, this was such a fun dinner spot and definitely one of those places I'd recommend if you're staying in Springdale or visiting the park. Pretty good place with large portions. The menu is a fusion of American and Mexican. Being from California, I have a refined pallet for Mexican and this is definitely not authentic but still very delicious and filling. The veggie options are a nice fusion of healthy-Mexican- American and worth trying. I loved the vinaigrette given in the side salads! A dill/lime mix. We visited Oscar's Cafe for lunch after being promised some of the best food in Springdale. We were pretty surprised when we arrived at 11:25 AM and they were still serving breakfast! The waitress explained that their menu switches over to lunch at 11:30. That's certainly one of the latest I've ever seen! At any rate, we were happy to wait the extra 10-15 minute wait for the kitchen switchover. At this point the place wasn't too crowded at all all, and just as promised, we were able to place our order at 11:40. Garlic Burger ($18) - This is a huge plate of food with a mound of fries and one gigantic burger. The burger starts with a soft bun, lightly toasted on both sides, which is then piled up with onion and plenty of piquant pickles, making the burger extra tangy. There's a weak creamy mayo/mustard mixture that soaks the veggies, followed by a giant half pound burger patty on top. It's slightly pink in the center, but is somehow dry. It doesn't have much of a grilled/char flavor, nor much of a beefy flavor either. The patty is large but disappointing in flavor and execution. There's a pitiful spoonful of garlic on top of the patty. It such a small amount it's almost indistinguishable in flavor and texture - in fact, I didn't even know there was any garlic until I deconstructed the burger. That's a very poor showing for a burger with "garlic" in the name. On top of the garlic is a thick slice of melted cheese, more mayo/mustard, a small bed of shredded lettuce (complete with shreds falling out all over even before being brought to our table), and a couple of tomato slices. There's plenty of mayo/mustard sauce for the sandwich, enough to overcome how dry the meat is. The sandwich comes with a choice of regular or sweet potato fries, of which we went with the former. They are standard food service battered fries, not fried long enough to give any coloring to the exterior, making them extra pale and soft. We asked for a side of fry sauce which we found to be thin, watery, and drippy. (2/5) Pork Tamales ($22) - This dish comes with a side salad, which came immediately to the table. It's a pretty large portion for a side salad and includes plenty of romaine, full cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, charred corn, olives, and a pile of shredded carrot in an extremely tangy and slightly sweet dressing. The dressing is both way too acidic and way too watery for my tastes. It's so overdressed that a large puddle of dressing remained after finishing the salad. The tamales aren't very good either. They are doused in a green chile sauce that's only added after being blasted in whatever cooking appliance they use. The masa feels woefully under-steamed. It's quite coarse in texture and is hard, dry, and crumbly. It's so hard it's almost crunchy. The tamales seem to be pan fried on both sides, or perhaps broiled in a salamander for far too long. The green chile inside isn't even that flavorful, making the tamales a bland disappointment. There's a bed of shredded pork underneath the two tamales. The pork is not as far gone as the tamales. It's a little stringy and dry, but still retains at least a minimum amount of moisture. The pork has a pleasing pink/red tinge, but isn't smoky whatsoever. The overall profile doesn't display much in terms of spices, and the flavor of the pork itself isn't my favorite. I have a feeling that this is microwaved food service pork rather than being made in house. On top of everything is a chile verde sauce. It's again not that flavorful, with more acidity than anything else. There's absolutely zero heat - it's one of the most mild green chile sauces I've had. I feel like the dish could be improved a little if they simmered the pork in the green chile to help layer the flavors more. Unfortunately they are clearly cooked and assembled in a modular manner to save on ingredient cost. On the side is brown rice, actually cooked with green chile, and tender black beans that are appropriately salted. (2/5) Tip: If most people are sitting on the patio, I recommend not asking for an indoor seat. We were basically ignored by the waitress after we got our food since we were the only customers sitting inside. Also, get here earlier for fastest seating. By the time we left half past noon, the place was bustling with the entire patio being full of patrons. Oscar's Cafe serves huge portions with mediocre to bad quality. It's definitely a quantity over quality type of place and seems to be catered towards people who are scared of flavor and spices. I certainly would not return. Very popular restaurant in Springdale, right by Zion National Park. We had to wait about 20 minutes for dinner, which was not too bad. My friend and I split a full rack of the "killer ribs" - it's definitely a good portion for 2 average sized people to share, and for $37, that makes it a pretty good value. The ribs were fine, but I have to say, I've definitely had better - I felt these ribs could've been a bit more tender / fall-off-the-bone. Also, while it looks like a lot of sauce on top, I thought it could've used more, as there isn't much beyond that top layer of the ribs. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The service speed is decent. There is a lively atmosphere thanks to the popularity of the restaurant. Overall, I think there is good reason for Oscar's Cafe to be as popular as it is, especially given the limited options near Zion, so as long as the wait isn't too long, it is worth stopping by. read more

My boyfriend ordered the green chili horseshoe, and it was huge- two corn tortillas layered with beans, verde sauce, cheese, and eggs any style, baked and then topped with homemade guacamole and sour cream. We had a pretty good dinner here! After long and tiring day at the park, we were looking for a hefty and satisfying meal. We definitely found it here. My husband and I started with the chips salsa guac appetizer, since we were extra hungry. We also each got a burger with fries. These burgers are hefty! We are each very big eaters and we struggled to finish. The food itself wasn't life changing, but we definitely left satisfied. The locale is hard to miss, with its bright decor inside and outside and its bustling atmosphere that can be seen from the street. The staff was friendly and helpful. Turned up without a reservation and after hearing about Oscar's from both the Springhill Suites staff and other folks in the town. Clearly I wasn't the only one, the place was packed and I waited ~25 min for a table, which was well managed with a buzzer system. The staff were polite and efficient, clearly serving multiple guests as fast as possible, but it didn't affect how attentive they were. On recommendation I ordered the pork burrito with green chilli sauce, with some guac and chips to start. Enormous, but delicious! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting. So good we went twice! On our first night in Springdale we didn't know where to go, but we saw the reviews about Oscar's and it was a short walk from our hotel so we decided to give it a try. Everyone in Springdale seems to be on the same schedule: hike all day, check out an epic sunset, then go eat. So naturally, there was a big line but the wait was short and we got seated within about 10 minutes. My wife had the fish tacos and I ordered the chicken enchiladas. She said the tacos were really good but too much for her to finish. The enchiladas were great as well. We both commented that the generous portions would've been perfect if we'd been hiking all day. Unfortunately, most of our day was spent flying from Mpls to Vegas and then driving to Springdale. It was a long day and we were tired and hungry. Luckily, the food came quick and we enjoyed a local on the patio before walking back to our room. The next day we hiked Angels Landing and the Overlook Trail. Lunch consisted of a handful of trail mix and a bagel. By dinner time we were ready to eat! But too tired to go far. So we returned to Oscar's knowing we'd get a decent meal and quick service. My wife had the fish tacos again. She liked them that much. I had the burrito. OMG. It was huge but so good. After hiking all day and basically skipping lunch, I had no trouble eating the whole thing. It went fast. The next day we were chatting with some locals and getting advice on where to go eat. Cody was our server and he was incredibly pleasant. We ordered 2 diet drinks, a grant sandwich and a pork verde breakfast burrito. Once we saw the portion sizes after the food got to the table we regretted our decision, but in a good way! Lol. The burrito was fantastic. I saw the good reviews and was excited. Showed up and saw the menu that was half Mexican and half American food and felt a little nervous. Then I looked around at what everybody else was being served and got really excited. Very large portions of fantastically well executed food - I kind of hurt myself eating too much. Service was the best we've had on a two week trip and certainly worth a repeat! My only complaint is that I was too full to sample more of the menu. Call me crazy but I ate there twice in one day. Went for breakfast, boyfriend and I split the chili verde burrito and the hikers granola. Plenty of tender pork in the burrito! Not really a granola person but dang this bowl was really good. I kept going back to it. After riding bikes thru the canyon (rented from buzz bikes right in front of restaurant) we returned them and I really wanted a burger, so went back to Oscars and boyfriend and I again split the Murder Burger and the Full rack of ribs. I ate the most tender ribs ever! I literally just used a fork to eat it. Sweet potatoes fries were perfect. I was so full that I took my half of the burger to go. When I ate the burger later it was very tasty, I could only imagine how it tasted hot! Friendly staff, great patio, and clean restrooms! read more

Got lunch here after hiking Zion. They have a consistent water mist that sprays in the outer space, which definitely helps keep the space at a comfortable temperature. I could not imagine wanting to sit outside in 100+ degree weather if that didn't have that going. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant. I order their Grilled Fish Tacos ($21) which was one of the recommended items by the server. Props to her for recommending it. It comes with three tacos and there's a side salad and rice & beans, so it will surely be a filling meal. It gets busy in the morning but there's plenty of parking. We were sat comfortably at a table where there's heating above our heads as it got quite chilly in in the morning. The server Greg is very attentive and nice and efficient as well. The chicken enchiladas and pork verde chile burrito are generously portion and tasted good. Staff make this place for sure! Our waitress was so kind and attentive. Our family was there on Weds for a late lunch. Sangria was good. And the warm carrot cake was heavenly. Philly cheese steaks were a bit extra with cream cheese and nacho cheese and I needed a nap after lol but if that's what you are going for - do it! We had skipped lunch and were starving after our hike- but I wouldn't want to know our calorie count. Crayons and coloring sheets for the kids. Great prices too. read more
