We found this gem while driving thru Kanab on our way from Page, AZ to Lee's Ferry, AZ by way of Rt. 89 (not 89A). We stopped because the outdoor patio was full even though it was only 4pm. Our motto is, if the parking lot/patio is full, the food must be good. It proved true at Escobar's. We both enjoyed the chiles rellenos. They are made fresh to order and include a delicious sauce and onions, which is different than the ones we've had in Wickenburg and Phoenix, AZ. The rice and beans were also delicious and the prices are also very good. Although they serve bottled beer we settled for soda since we had a long drive ahead of us. Because the patio was full we ate inside. The dining room is bright and pleasant. Walls are filled with Mexican art. Service was quick and pleasant. Why is it when the woman brings out my plate, then literally tells me its very hot..I always immediately grab my fork and shove a large amount of rice & beans in my mouth knowing its hotter than the surface temperature of the sun...? Anyway, these folks were really nice, typical Mexican fare, great flavors. I had the chile relleno & chicken enchilada. They make the sauce to cover the relleno with huge chunks of tomato, so that added a big hearty flavor, which I really liked. This was a great stop on our trip, the fish tacos were some of the best i have ever had. The service was top notch.

Asked for a recommendation and was given number 5 with one item each of 3 different meats: clocked, pork and shredded beef. I think I liked the pork more than the other two personally. We stopped here after a day of sightseeing. We had about a 20 minute wait for a table which we didn't think was bad at all. This is one of the few places open on a Sunday night in Kanab. When my wife and I arrived, around 5:30, it was spent getting busy. We had to wait 10-15 minutes to get seated. I ordered the plain carne asada (steak) burrito and the wife got the carnitas plate. Both were exceptional! I have eaten Mexican food all over the US and a few other countries and that has to be one of the best burritos I've ever eaten! My wife really enjoyed her plate too! The staff were very friendly and busting their butts to try to keep up. They were friendly and quick to bring us what we needed. My suggestion to them is to wait for the customer to finish speaking before running off. Would have saved them a few trips. As others mentioned, one of the few places open on Sunday nights, unfortunately they are closed on Saturday's, but a decent trade off. We have been here a couple times now, and the place is consistent in a lot of ways! Family run, they have a small dining area and some large tables outside in a covered area. Parties over 4 need to eat out there unless the middle tables inside can be moved together. They are always on a wait pr packed, and do a ton of to go orders. The service is the only knock on this place and a small one. If you need something, you need to flag someone down as they tend to not come back to tables. Unfortunate, but is what it is. Steak chimichanga is my go to and they stuff it with beans, lettuce, and red enchilada sauce baked into the shell. It crunches like a cracker. The side of refried beans are money with a thin layer then melted cheese on top. The rice is the best, hands down...do bot skip the rice!! This is a popular place in Kanab. And for good reason. The food had a nice kick to it and if you ask for hot sauce they will bring you out their house hot sauce they make and it is really good. We were hoping for margaritas but they do not sell any. They only sell beer. They will give you a basket of chips and salsa and we ordered the queso which if this was their normal queso I would skip. It was very watery and runny. It reminded me of how we used to add water to low gravy levels when I was a server. The Chile verde was very good and the portion sizes were generous. We were all stuffed. We sat on the patio with was essentially picnic tables. The inside was nice but with the wait times just asked for first available. The server was very fun and friendly. Having lived in Texas these past 18 years, I fancy myself a bit of a Mexican food snob. Escobar's was legit. Shrimp fajitas were piping hot and full of plump, sweet shrimp. When we arrived it was around 8:20, so we were a bit nervous we wouldn't have enough time to eat, given they close at 9pm. Come to find out, the kitchen closes at 9, but guests are free to stay and enjoy their meals. The shop is family owned and we even had the opportunity to meet the business owner! She was the sweetest and definitely takes care of her guests. The restaurant is clean, brightly lit and very trendy. We stayed until about it 9:30ish and noticed a few family's still enjoying their meals. It goes without saying that Escobar's is the place to be at any given time. They hand out complimentary chips and salsa for the first round. My boyfriend got the wet burrito and literally chowed it down. I love this place especially after a long hike. The taco salad and the veggie burrito are so good. The chips and salsa are always perfect. I wish they had caffeine free diet soda but that's ok. Sometimes there is a wait but the folks here are so kind I don't mind. On a very busy day parking can be tough but I've never not found a spot. Price is pretty good and they give you so much food!! Easy to find this spot in the small town of Kanab, got here for an early dinner sometime just after 5pm and glad we did because when we left there was a line out the door! Indoor and outdoor seating available and restroom was pretty clean. Maybe it was a coincidence or because of spacing but they had big families and kids sit outside which made the indoor seating a bit more peaceful. Some booths, tables and what seemed like a community table. I ordered the Carne Asada grilled steak and was hesitant since the other dishes seem more popular but WOW!!! The steak was full of flavor but didn't taste like it was coated in salt like other Mexican restaurants. I will be craving this steak for a while! It was cooked perfectly and a big piece for the price. Lots of flavor and didn't need extra sauce to be delicious. The beans also tasted like beans and not just brown mush which I enjoyed. Just in town during a road trip but I'd definitely return for the steak when I'm back! The dish came with 3 tortillas and I used them to make bean and rice burritos to-go. Horchata was pretty good. We walked into Escobar's Restaurant 15 minutes before they closed and they gladly sat us down. Now, to me, a good Mexican Restaurant makes their enchiladas in the oven, not just whipped up on the plate. Those of you that frequent Mexican restaurants often will understand what I mean. I was glad to find out that they oven cook their enchiladas!! I also ordered a plate with a tostada, chile relleno, beans and rice. The food was awesome!! Small mom and pop restaurant with a warm ambient vibe. We didn't have any reservations and only had to wait 10 min. But soon after we sat a line formed. The hostess staff and waiter staff were all really friendly and accommodated our request to have separate checks. The restaurant was clean for how busy it was. We all only ordered water bc we were parched from hiking. They gave us 2 water pitchers to make sure we were always topped off. The free appetizer chips were of good quality with right amount of salt and crispiness. They only give one red salsa though and no green sauce. Our table ordered beef burrito, burrito enchilada style, beef quesadilla, shrimp tacos, and I got the beef taco and beef enchilada combo. The refried beans and rice were great standard quality. The beef taco was fully loaded and they had sauces at the table to use for the taco. The beef enchilada was great as well. The entire plate was piping hot and needed to be cooled for a few minutes before eating which was appropriate. Great stop for a post-hike meal! read more

My friend and I stopped here for lunch after sand boarding at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. We were both super hungry and excited to have some good Mexican eats. The restaurant is cozy on the inside and the service was good. Unfortunately the food for me wasn't the best. I am still giving four stars because my friend really enjoyed her food. I am gluten intolerant, so I ordered the nachos just to be safe. They were not great. I think I missed having saucy cheese. Here they melt shredded cheese onto the chips instead. Visited here as we wanted to try an authentic Mexican restaurant while in Arizona/Utah, as I've heard they're really good. I had Chile Verde burrito, the pork was well cooked and soft. The green gravy blended very well, but I could use a little less cheese, as the burrito stuffing became too flowy. Horchata was the popular drink at the place and it tasted great. A must try for first timers. Their homemade chips were crisp and less oily compared to other Mexican places I've tried. I almost filled myself up with them before our food arrived. I will always make it a point to come and eat here when I'm in Kanab. I don't care how long the wait is because that's how good this food is! We waited around 45 minutes on a Friday night around 7 PM. So be ready for a wait, but I promise, it's worth it. I usually order the enchilada plate, but we decided to also try the quesadilla as well. My friend and I split both items and they were just beyond delicious. The quesadilla was super thick and full of cheese and Carne Asada. My favorite is the sauce that they use for the enchiladas and I really love the beans. I do prefer them over the rice. It's a very busy environment and you just gotta be patient with the service. It's good service, but please be patient because they are beyond busy most of the time. read more

Our guide on a kayaking trip to Antelope Canyon highly recommended this place when he heard we'd be going to Kanab. I agree with his statement that their salsa is some of the best anywhere, just the right amount of kick, not at all overpowering! We started with a basket of complimentary chips with that delicious salsa. I ordered a shrimp with mushrooms dinner. It came with a nice portion of shrimp, lots of garlic mushrooms, rice, refried beans, and dollops of guac and sour cream. Of course tortillas as well, flour or corn. My husband had a combo dinner that he enjoyed. Lots of delicious food! Service was fast and efficient, servers friendly and helpful. Arrived to a 15 minute wait. Ok, this tells us place is popular. We don't mind the wait. We get seated and orders are placed. Nothing exotic, standard off the menu. So far so good. Then we wait and wait. Waitress never returns. She is still waiting other tables. Other tables get served that have arrived after us. After close to an hour, Basically entire area has turned over. We flag down who we assume is manager. Manager says she will check on order. She comes back 5 minutes later and states "food is in the oven". What does that mean? Reheat? Redo? Who knows? Our waitress who is still working never returns to our table. At this point patience is gone and not confident what will be on our plate, if and when it arrives. Throw cash on table for my drink and leave. Not a pleasant experience. One star is generous. read more

I loved this restaurant before I was vegan years ago. My sister took me on a road trip through here and I really wanted to relive the memory of ordering food and taking a walk in the neighboring cemetery while we waited for the food. I forgot how cozy the inside of the restaurant is, as well as the shaded and walled outdoor seating. I asked if they had vegan options or if they had lard in the beans. The woman I talked to assured me that they did non use lard or chicken stock and that I could get a vegan meat by removing the cheese and sour cream from the vegetarian burrito, or removing the animal products from the fajita. I chose the burrito. We were told a 15 min wait but had to come back a few minutes early for the restroom, but the burrito was all ready to go! It tasted fresh and delicious and was very satisfying! Post-adventure after hiking The Wave, my family and friends were starving, remembered Escobar's mentioned by the locals and decided to headed on over. Rosa was our server and she was friendly, attentive and amazing. She checked on us frequently and accommodated our group of 6 with request of separate checks with no issues or attitude. Our orders was served in a timely manner too, for the restaurant being moderately busy. I ordered the Carne Asada with Shrimp $17.99, which came with a side of rice and beans. Asada was tender with good seasoning. Shrimp prepared well and not chewy. Good portion size for the price one pays. Free chips and salsa -love the chips here. Indoor and outdoor seating available, we sat outside. Free parking lot. Escobar's serves beer.
