This is exactly what Dedham needed! Great for grabbing a drink or late night. My husband and I tried it out week one and were very happy. Yes, I agree with many that it's on the pricey side for food but I'll take it to have a more exciting foodie culture start up in Dedham. Plus, everything was yummy. The fries were super super salty so I might ask for less salt next time but other than that, I wouldn't change a thing about our order. My husband had a local hard cider that he loved and I can't wait to try when I'm not pregnant. We will definitely be back. Note that it's pretty small so you'll want to arrive early to get a table. You can also put your phone number down and walk around Dedham while you wait which is really nice. And you can call ahead to reserve a table if you have a large group. read more

First of all I made a reservation and didn't get seated until 30mins later. When seated at the table they didn't even wipe it down first I had to ask her. That's disgusting on any given day let alone during a pandemic. Then I ordered a burger well done that came out dripping with blood. I sent it back only to get the same burger that went from dripping blood to pink. This is totally against the board of health rules and regulations. When I asked to speak to the manager it took awhile but when he did come he was so dismissive it was unbelievable and so rude. All he could do is think to comp my burger!! Not even we will make this right. Make a brand new burger. Can I get you something else.. NOTHING!! Are you serious I wasted over 2HRS of my day. My family finished their food and I am still hungry. Sadly I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone maybe a Towne because that's all that was there and their main concern. Bartenders simply not customer savvy. Owner bartender loves his regulars, but if you are not you get "meh'. That's all. Meh. Basic drink , no smile, and meh. Honestly, if you own the place , dont work there. Gent with accent who downright needs 'anger mgmt' classes. He can not handle ANY feedback, comments, etc. None. Our group at bar eating (5), were there 3 x. Same deal each time. Waitresses: great. Dont eat at bar and get Mr and Mr Moody. Food: just okay. Fries, chicken, burgers, etc. just okay. It stays open late, so thats why lot folks go there later, but if you want nice glass wine with Mr Mood swings, go on nights boys are not working. They had fab female bartender, who was funny, and she left! Bummer. its a hard business I know, but with 2 Trezz, Deli, Restaurants here and a new Tavern and , Grateful Diner, opening Jan 2019 -all in arms length, I would " up my game gents'. Plus, 3 great coffee shops with food. But for drinks/dinner, I would ponder my options, that's all. I feel w/o customer service and "consistency' (yes, it exists), they 'think' they are better than they actually 'are'. I been at least fourteen times, to keep trying this 'local place a chance, and after all this time, still........the same. Like Bob Seger song. Funny thing is, they don't even appreciate your being there. Great restaurant with upscale pub food and some real surprises that are not expected in a pub setting. I had shrimp and grits with tasso ham and collard greens. The dish was as good as anything you would get in Nashville. Wait staff was attentive and made us feel very welcome. This won't be my last visit. read more

Great addition to downtown Dedham! My wife and I went for drinks last week. Solid cocktail list and great Massachusetts-centric beer list. Great casual place to grab a cocktail, appetizers or dinner. The list of craft beers is impressive. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and invited to warm up by the fireplace which smelled and felt heavenly. Food was unfussy and delicious. Prices are very reasonable. During a snowstorm and after a long day of a youth swim meet we found Oscar's. Late in the evening but that didn't matter to the owners who were at the Bar, serving food and welcomed a big group in warmly. Had the flat iron steak au poivre and it was cooked perfectly, served hot with a pepper sauce to die for. Kids had mac & cheese which they made for us off the menu. Salmon and braised ribs were ordered by others in our party. All agree 5 stars. We had a previously unknown sparkling drink called ANDIAMO. I am excited and happy that this place is finally opened ! And the idea of a local restaurant/bar very close to my house is open till late is very good. I wish they have better choices in menus. We ordered the charcuterie plate/ cheese plate ( our bartender recommended) it was not good . The presentation and taste and items in our plate all were not good :( not to mention it was 18$ !! I have never seen an Old Fashioned that looks and tastes like a watered down mimosa. I took a small sip and returned it. I got an perfect tasting beer that was cold and refreshing. Unfortunately, I came out for an OLD FASHIONED! Check please! Oh wow.... the mimosa they call an OF is still on the check? Lol. I should have know by the cold greeting at the door that the previous reviews were spot on. The host looked at us like we walked uninvited into his living room. I felt bad for the waitress because she was very nice and apologetic. I'm still sitting here and let me tell you there is no way in hell I am paying for a cocktail that I didn't drink and was incorrectly made. I will never be back but I'm thinking this place won't be around for long anyways. Oh also, they overcharged us for the beers. Check your check! Oscar's is by far my favorite restaurant in Dedham. I have never had food there that I didn't enjoy. The burger and fish and chips are especially good as are the dinner specials generally. I am disappointed that they got rid of the baked mac and cheese at lunch but otherwise love them. Their drink menu is also delicious and for anyone that likes craft beer they have a large selection. I typically don't leave negative reviews however I had a very negative and racially charged experience at Oscar's yesterday. My manager and I went to there yesterday after work to get a drink. My manager is the CEO of our organization and happens to be a black woman. The bartender (white woman) carded us. I gave her my ID but my colleague realized she left her license in another purse. She had an electronic copy but the bartender said she needed a physical copy. We're both in our late thirties. We asked why no one else at the bar had been carded (all white people) and in a nasty voice she said "because I know these people. They're my regulars and I don't know you (and points at my friend). It's the law and no one will serve you." At this point we decided to leave. She could have just said that they have a strict carding policy and we would have understood. However her attitude and tone was appalling, I've never experienced treatment like this in my life. Granted I'm a white woman so my privilege has protected me. Neither of us will ever go to Oscars again which is a shame because I'm a Dedham resident and have been there many times (and mind you have never been carded). read more

It is frustrating when a promising new restaurant with a good concept is undermined by staff or owners who either lack any industry experience or simply do not care to make this place anything more than a casual suburban ma and pa more focused on being a place for their friends to hang out than providing a great restaurant experience. I am extra annoyed because I really want this place to be good, but it sadly has a very long way to go. Here's why: 1: Hostess spent the whole night over at the bar gossiping with a friend, half the time with her back to the front entrance. When customers do catch her attention, its as if they are interrupting her conversation and she wants to be done with the inconvenience of her hosting duties as quickly as possible. Yes, it's the suburbs and things that would get you canned on your first shift at any restaurant downtown are more forgiven, but this isn't a good way to start. If hostess was one of the owners this is extra bad. You are running a business! 2: If you serve your customers a dish with several long pieces of human hair embedded in it, like the paella we ordered, the proper response is to be overwhelmingly apologetic and comp the dish. That didn't happen and instead we received a casual "oops, that shouldn't happen" and a new dish of paella. Again, these things happen sometimes but it was the staff's response and indifference that was so disappointing. 3. Waitress drops off charcuterie boards and pickled plate without informing table what any of the items, needs clarification when you order one of the 6 or so featured cocktail by name because she admits she hasn't learned all of the beers and drinks yet, and acted like it was a bit of a chore when we ordered a lesser known cocktail that was not on the menu and offered to provide instructions if the bartender was unfamiliar with the drink. Not unforgivable sins but also not things that happen at well run establishments. Otherwise, our dining experience was a mixed bag that could go in either direction as the restaurant learns its strengths and weaknesses. Bathrooms were cleanly, interior décor charming, and the menu, while small, was inventive. The burger was good and the fries were excellent but most of the food had room for improvement- Fish and Chips were under seasoned, Artic Char was pretty bland and portioned rather small, whole grain mustard on the charcuterie board was so overportioned it felt wasteful, while the 5 tiny and thin slices of chorizo made the charcuterie board look mostly like a pate and mustard board. Curiosity and lack of competition will keep it going for a little while but eventually, either this place will hire someone to turn around the front of house experience and that person will be in tune with the customers and drive better food quality and consistency, leading to a much improved restaurant, or the owners will treat this place like a hobby and place to hang out with their friends. I worry it will be the later, but am holding out hope. read more

Oscar's is great! My husband and I loved the vibe, it was warm, chic, and relaxing. We sat at the bar and had drinks and dinner. The bartender was very attentive and had good recommendations. The food was well made and very tasty. I like that the menu is small and on point. We live about five minutes away, so we will definitely be back. I only wish it was a little bigger. Seems to get really crowded at peak times, but the hostess did a good job of trying to accommodate everyone. Overall, Oscar's is that neighborhood place we have been waiting for in Dedham and we are thrilled it is here. read more
