Came to this little deli for breakfast. Was not disappointed. Ordered a ham breakfast sandwich on wheat and Oscar's omelette with sides of potatoes on each. Breakfast sandwich was exactly what I expected, hot fresh and tasty. Omelette was fantastic. Side of potatoes were seasoned to perfection. Price point was absolutely great, around $15 for both of these plates. Absolutely cannot beat it for a quick bite on the run. Good service. Under new mngmt. Food not soo good. I ordered a hot pastrami on rye with everything, pickles n mustard. Bread was lightly toasted but they skimped on the pastrami. I mean pastrami should be piled high. Nope not this place. I comes with a side, i got the chicken noodle soup which taste a lot like soup in a bag. Love this little sandwich shop! Been here many times for lunch pre-pandemic and even during the pandemic when it was open. Great sandwiches for a very reasonable price. Sandwiches come with a side - mac salad is ok, potato salad is meh, chicken noodle soup is real good, but the choice for me when it's available is the clam chowder. Not sure if it's homemade, but it's damn good. I've also tried several of their sandwiches (roast beef, tuna melt, pastrami, egg salad) - all of them are very good because you can tell they use quality ingredients and they give generous portions. My favorite is the chicken salad on squaw. The chicken salad is not fancy (chicken, mayo, celery, maybe a bit of onion?) but again, it's the quality of everything from the bread to the chicken and veggies that makes this something I look forward to when I venture out for lunch. I came in today and met a kind man who I can only assume was the owner. He was very polite and accommodating. I ordered the chicken club and my partner ordered the philly cheese steak. The sandwiches were great and they came with your choice of soup or salad or you can opt for potato chips for $1.25 more. I would say the prices are reasonable and you certainly get your moneys worth. Overall I really enjoyed coming here and the owner was nice to follow up on whether I liked the food because I had mentioned that it was my first time. I've been coming here since the original owner. After it changed hands a few years ago, the new owner kept the menu, and the good quality has continued. Their sandwiches use fresh ingredients and the portions are good. Every day they offer three or four lunch specials which include a sandwich, with soup or salad, and a drink. They have a wide range of freshly-made deli salads to choose from, such as potato salad, macaroni salad, pasta salad, etc. You can choose drinks from a soda machine or canned and bottled from the cooler. They also offer freshly brewed, unsweetened iced tea. Prices are fair, and the service is fast. I keep returning because their sandwiches are just better than the typical franchise sandwich shop. They serve breakfast as well, but I have never partaken so have no opinion on that although they do claim to have the best breakfast burritos in town. I only have two small gripes: they usually have CNN and MSNBC on their televisions, which does little for the appetite, and when you pay the lady with a card, she charges you and doesn't offer you a receipt afterwards. read more

I came in for a breakfast burrito not really expecting much from a small spot like this but I was very impressed by the food they made. The breakfast burrito is a good size and pretty well priced. The one thing I didn't like is that on the menu it dosnt say that it comes with onions and bell peppers, not a big deal but I like knowing what's in my food before I make a choice. 1st time going here today. It was GREAT! The bread was fresh! I got the grilled Rueben and it was THE BEST I've ever had. The bread was grilled just right not to oily or soggy and the insides were well proportioned and it had a great flavor with wonderful texture! I got the macaroni salad that tasted homemade and was very exceptional. I came here to pick up some breakfast on my way to work. I spend quite a lot of time in this strip center because it contains my favorite sushi bar and Hawaiian BBQ restaurant. I went to Oscar's one other time for breakfast. On that trip, the owner? / cook told me I would have to wait 45 minutes until he could even take my order. I left without ordering because I did not have 45 minutes to waste and I thought his attitude was kind of rude. Well, today was a different story. There was no one in the restaurant when I arrived. The owner / cook was sitting at a table talking to someone. He was still kind of abrupt when I walked in like I was interrupting him. I asked if he was making breakfast. All of a sudden he jumped up and said "sure, what do you want?" The whole exchange was kind of odd since I arrived at about 7:55 a.m. - breakfast time - and he was the only business open. Anyway, no 45 minute wait this time. I ordered an omlette with sausage to go. He told me potatos and toast come with the omlette. I said I did not want them. Unfortunately, he did not give me a discount. The food came out quickly, and I took it to my office. The omlette was very good. It was slightly carmelized on the outside. The eggs were not runny inside and there was a fair amount of sausage, cheese, onion, and green pepper. I enjoyed the taste and texture thoroughly. It made for a nice breakfast. Will I go back? Good question. I am not eager to go back because I don't care for the owner's attitude. The food was good and worth a second trip, but I just don't know that I can get past the lack of customer service or graciousness that I have seen both times I came to Oscar's. read more

Haven't been here in forever because I had to cut bread from my diet, but this place is one of my favorite quick lunch spots in Tustin. Really good lunch specials, really good potato salad, and really friendly service. I usually took my food to go as with everyone who is in and out of there during the lunch hour, and they are always really quick about getting you taken care of. I've been a regular here since 2007. The owner can be rude, often will not greet customers... Prefers to shout "Next!" instead of "Hello." Can probably count the amount of times he's smiled or laughed in his lifetime. If one asks what kind of cheese they have, (because it's a deli), he will respond by saying, "the sandwich comes with American cheese." Which is the answer to a different question (Pro-tip for the owner: some people might actually want something different). The only reason to eat here is the low prices. If you can tolerate the grumpy, rude, inconsiderate, no customer service-having owner, then you'll be fine. read more

The food: I got the club sandwich with potato salad. The sandwich was around 10 inches and came with all the veggies, turkey, ham and bacon. It was a pretty good sandwich. Nothing great but very solid. The potato salad was also pretty good. It wasn't too mustardy and had a nice consistency to it. My friend had the pork tenderloin special. It was basically a Cuban sandwich with ham, pork, mustard and pickles. The pork was very flavorful and moist and the sandwich was very good. One of the best Cuban's that I've had. The price: I got a 10 inch sandwich, a very big portion of potato salad, a drink AND a cookie for 5.50. It was one of their combos. You can get a sandwich (8-10 inches) served with a salad (it looked like they had potato, macaroni, pasta, and fruit salad) for a little over 5 bucks. Extremely affordable. Most places charge 6 bucks for those types of sandwiches and that's w/o a side salad. 10 stars for being very affordable. Very good deli. The food was very solid and the price just made it great. Oscar's deli is a decent place to stop into for lunch. All sandwiches come with your choice of soup or salad for free. Your options are limitless, and the salads and soups are all delicious. Split Pea is my favorite, and is served on Thursday's. Their clam chowder on Friday's is nothing special... Kinda bland. This deli used to be owned by an albino family, and was a bit better when run by the previous owner. The portions were a bit more generous, and the ingrediens more tasty. I do like how the new owner kept alot of the previous sandwiches on the menu. The seafood salad is tasty as is a lot of their salads. BLT chicken salad is good too. Their 'Veggie' sandwich is great. 3 cheeses, avocado, and tons of veggies and pickles. Macaroni salad is BOMB! Very peppery. The previous owner made the 'Summer Salad' much better, but I like the macaroni salad better now anyways. read more

The food is good but the service is terrible! The owner is not nice, never greets you and doesn't have manners. I called in an order one day and he said "15 minutes", I said "I can be there in five". To which he responded "OK, you come in five and wait ten minutes". This was at 8am mind you, no one was even there. Its not like it was even lunch time rush. Not ever spending my money there again. We live in the Tustin area and we're Oscar regular's. We love the food and before the shutdown we ate here quite frequently. Since the Covid-19 shutdown we've only eaten out a few places and every time has been to a local mom and pop location as we want to help keep them in business. Every other place we've gone to the staff has worn gloves and masks. Today we pre-ordered lunch at Oscar's deli to go. We arrived and noticed there wasn't a single mask on any customer or staff and the place was packed. This isn't pizza cooked at 500 degrees but 2 cold sandwiches hand prepared, face over food by an unmasked cook. The owner said he just took it off because his glasses fogged to which we said then why isn't your cook wearing one? We watched you for a while as we were deciding what to do and there was never a mask. I get that they are uncomfortable and no one wants to wear one but these are the times we currently have to live in. We cancelled our order and told him why. There was no apology to us just "we'll give your food to someone else," then he hung up on us. We honestly hope its different tomorrow but as of today, if you choose to eat here know, NO ONE will be wearing a mask and you'll be less 1 foot from others in line. I don't care if you don't believe in what is going on in the world or not but if just one of your customers does and you don't care to protect them in one small way why should people continue to support you. read more

I have been a customer here for a long time. I usually call in my order then go pick it up. This time it was last minute and I waited for them to prepare it. While I waited I noticed the person at the register fill an order of side pickles with his bare fingers and then return to the cash register. Also, there was a gentleman at the grill making hot meat sandwiches and rolling the sliced meat for the sandwiches with his bare fingers.
