I really enjoyed this place! I came here with my mom and 2 sisters for a celebration dinner. We had visited Villagio (the sister restaurant in Ellicottville) and knew that we had to try this place as well! We were greeted right away and sat at a table since we made a reservation (highly recommended for a weekend). The bread and oil they served was OUTSTANDING!!!! Best bread ever. We ordered wine and that came quickly as well. My one sister did wait a while for her drink from the bar but the bar was packed on this particular Saturday night. For dinner we all ordered something different. I had the ravioli special, which was just okay. The meatballs were amazing but the ravioli was just average. We also ordered chicken Parmesan, veal Parmesan, and classic spaghetti and meatballs. We ordered Alfredo sauce on the side but it was not good. It tasted like jar sauce :( My mom's veal was a bit over cooked and the owner came over and provided us a whole new meal to go! That was so appreciated and demonstrated great customer service! We also ordered the canoli dip to try which was a nice treat for the end of the meal. Overall I am very pleased with this place. I would come here again. The meatballs area must have! It's winter and we have been looking for an upscale menu with a casual atmosphere to escape the winter blues. We had heard great things from our friends about this place, and thought having a post-Valentine dinner here would be perfect. We made reservations thru OpenTable, and we were able to score street parking right across from the restaurant. They were ready for us and we were immediately seated. We had just taken our coats off and fresh focaccia bread with homemade oil was placed on our table. Our waiter promptly arrived and took our drink order - we were enjoying their attentiveness as it was timely, not overwhelming. I ordered a Moscow Mule and it...was...perfect! So refreshing, perfectly mixed. I could've just had those and been perfectly happy - haha! We decided to order their well-renown risotto sticks which have Italian sausage and banana pepper. Oh wow - my palate was besides itself! Perfectly crispy and light; an absolute must order! We then ordered the steak special and the Veal Milanese. Both came out relatively quickly and so perfectly done! Everything was so well-timed. We had time to relax and talk in between courses. The waiter continued to stop by and make sure we were pleased. I had to have my Milanese boxed as it was two veal cutlets - phew - lots of food! Finally, we ordered for dessert their Zeppoles; little Italian donuts with a side of wild berry cream sauce. Just in from San Diego to visit family. Staying at the Marriott and found this spot on Yelp. What an absolutely charming place! Excellent food and the staff is so welcoming. We had the banana peppers, meatball, osteria salad and bucatini. Everything was fabulous. We also had a really good Cabernet and Sangiovese. Manager Carl came over to check in on us as well, and was lovely to talk to. And our server was great - and I wish I had caught his name. Bread service was fine, but charging for bread at an Italian restaurant is what it is, except there are places where the food is just as good if not better who don't charge for warm Italian bread. Dad came into town for the weekend (our annual Taste of Buffalo), wanted Italian. I absolutely love the inside. A little tough to hear, but really nice atmosphere. To start I had the Osteria Pizza. The dough was thicker than I prefer and it could have used more sauce. What I should have done is ask for a side of marinara for dipping, my bad. Dad had The Carl. Omg The Carl knocks it out of the park, it's excellent!! Dad said he could have just eaten that and had been all set. Dare I say it's been than the similar appetizer at Frankie Primo's?? For dinner I had the gnocchi. The description stated in came in a jus, which I figured might be a small amount so I got a side of Alfredo. It unexpectedly (pleasantly) came with a healthy amount a thickened jus. The gnocchi were awesome , so was the Alfredo and the Swiss chard is a great touch. Dad had the bolognese. Which was good, he said it was a just but dry. He too, was stubborn and didn't ask for more sauce lol The gentleman at the host stand, who I assume to be the owner was lovely. Osteria is helping out the community during these difficult times by making individual meals for people to enjoy in their own homes. Each meal is frozen and than heated up in microwave. (I baked in the oven, delicious!) The chicken in the Lemon Chicken with Risotto dish was like butter. The Bolognese Lasagna was to die for. The portions were huge!!! The most important is the bread. we visited for lunch on a friday afternoon, the restaurant was very charming but quiet. our server was so patient with us and helpful with her suggestions. unfortunately i can't remember the names of our drinks but my friend had a gin based drink, like a french 75, she enjoyed. mine was a ginger/tequila drink i think, i didn't enjoy mine as much. however, our server was happy to switch out for a glass of sauvignon blanc, which was perfect. to start we had the focaccia al forno, basically just bread with melted cheese on top of it and some marinara sauce to dip. nothing too special, but it was delicious, can't go wrong with bread and cheese. next we had lunch portions of the shrimp pomodoro and sausage campanelle. the portions were large and satisfying for the lunch price! my friend enjoyed the pomodoro but i think she wasn't expecting so many whole tomato pieces in it. i loved the campanelle, the sausage is made in house and it's easily the best part of the dish! it was so yummy, the broccolini in it was also the perfect bite to balance this dish. however the sauce/noodles could have used a little bit of salt, but overall i thoroughly enjoyed! read more

My family and I decided to go for an Italian dinner in Buffalo, and when we learned that Osteria 166 was in the same family as Villaggio, we knew this was the place to try. We made reservations for a party of four at 6:45PM and when we walked in it was pretty empty. There were about five people at the bar, and unless there was another seating area I didn't see, we were the only ones there. Our server, Shannon B., was amazing! She was so friendly and helped us order dishes that we all really enjoyed. We ended up sharing the Spaghetti and Meatballs, Fried Brussels Sprouts and Farmers Salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. My favorite dish was definitely the brussels sprouts. We received our food very quickly and Shannon was always checking up on us to refill waters and see how the food was. Finally tried out Osteria for Friday night out, when my cousin was visiting! It wasn't very crowded which was good, we got seated couple of minutes after we arrived and started of some red wine. Since we didn't know which wine to get, we got to taste test some before ordering, which was amazing! We got Risotto bites for the appetisers, which came with delicious banana pepper sauce. We got the Bucatini carbonara, since the portion size was big we got it by two. The carbonara and the bites were incredibly delicious! I love a good pasta and Italian food, Osteria was amazing! Italian fine dining with the family. Okay...it's been a couple weeks. But I still wanted to give a shout out. Service was very good and there was a decent live musician in the bar area. In the main dining area it was a little too noisy to enjoy the music. I often get the stink eye bringing my two kids into nicer restaurants (I get it, I waited tables), but they were very welcoming. We didn't have a reservation, but I'd recommend one. I feel we got lucky. The house made sausage in my pasta dish was excellent and the sauce was incredible. Wifey got the chicken parmigiana and it was very well prepared. She often orders chicken; her opinion is, "if you going to put chicken on the menu, it better be good". Wow oh wow. I hadn't really gotten the joy of having so much Italian available in Buffalo, finding one indiscriminate from the next, until I came here. We had meatballs, brussel sprouts (AMAZING) and stuffed pepper risotto sticks as appetizers and could have filled up on just that. In a big group of 15 we had plenty of leftover appetizers, which were packaged up carefully and kept in the kitchen to clear space for our main course. The waitress did a great job of making sure to tend to your every need, and keeping us well fed and our glasses full. Then came the main course, which I half dare to say was even better, but that's hard to believe, since the meatball appetizer was the best meatball I had experienced in Buffalo. I got the spaghetti bolognese special, which doesn't normally exist on the menu. If I was Osteria 166 I would add it quick, because it was delicious! The sauce was so buttery and the dish had the perfect ratio of sauce to noodle, with more sauce than noodles. Highly recommend if it's still on the menu when you go. I would definitely call ahead if you're in a larger group, as tables to seat 6+ are in short supply without a reservation. That being said, if you're by yourself stroll on up and take a seat at the bar to enjoy exquisitely prepared Italian food. read more

Always a good place to eat. Tonight after the Auto Show I stopped for dinner. Bucatini and clams sounded good. I had good suggestions from the server Rob. The sauvignon blanc another suggestion was very delicious. A New Zealand wine called Mohua a crispy clean refreshing white. Good bread was offered Italian sliced with a good crust, the accompanying dish of olive oil spices and crushed red pepper flakes was a welcome and pleasant perk. The entree was vongole (clams) alla bucatini a long spaghetti like pasta with a hole in the middle to slurp up that liquid from the dish. The liquid(sauce) contained garlic, shallots, herbs and wine. Dozen clams in the shell over the pasta. All in all a satisfying meal and the service was good. The food came out fast and hot. I have been crossing off more Italian restaurants off of my list and this was one I have been waiting to try out for a while. The place is pretty popular and I found out why once I experienced it. We started off with a smoked eggplant parmesan as an appetizer which was perfectly smoked on a grill and tasted great. Never had I tried eggplant parm this way and it was quite unique. I am a big fan of risotto so when I saw that they had risotto of the day as a side dish I quickly decided that I would order two side dishes to fill me up. The other side dish was a pasta of my choice so I picked spaghetti with pesto. The waitress asked me if I was a vegetarian and offered to add vegetables (note that it was extra cost) to it to make it more wholesome. And boy, did I underestimate the portion sizes! They were both the size of a proper entree and I couldn't even finish one although both of them tasted wonderful. Right when we decided we would just take the leftovers home, the dessert menu appeared in front of us and we couldn't say no to a slice of tiramisu (I am also on a quest to find the best tiramisu in Buffalo). It wasn't a traditional tiramisu but rather a cross between a tiramisu and a cheesecake. It was very rich and creamy and thicker than what I expected. Although it tasted good, I decided I prefer my tiramisu prepared in a more traditional way. The wait staff was very polite to me when they found out that I was vegetarian and offered their insight to make my decision making easier. The ambience was pretty classy as you would guess even from the exterior and we did get a reservation before we arrived (although it was probably unnecessary since it was a Thursday night). This place was MOBBED on the weekend. Expect to wait for service and enjoy being out in downtown Buffalo for awhile. Great vibe and a great bar - loved it. Food wise - solid italian. Risotto bites were tasty but the rose sauce that came with them was amaaaaaahzing. I drank it out of the soufflé cup. My carbonara was flat - not nearly enough balance with cheese or salt. I swear the water could not have been salted - although the pasta was cooked perfectly. The steak/pepper sandwich with the truffle fries was phenomenal. The fries - which I never review - were the best truffle fries Ive ever had and that sandwich - OH MY! I would love to come back to try more of the menu and enjoy the live music. We had a holiday party here. I have such a high hope. I heard so many good things about the place. So I'm quite disappointed with the food. This is a buffet menu. For apps they have jalapeños popper which is ok but not flavorful, meat on bread, super duper crunchy bread. Hard as rock bread. I guess it's supposed to be crostini. But it's terrible. Now to main course. They do not look appetizing first of all and they really don't taste good either. Mashed potatoes, eggplant, roast beef and salad. Eggplant dried except if you get one with good sauce on top. Roast beef is in chewy side. Dessert is tiramisu sigh.... no... just no... it's dense and flavorless. I'm very picky of my food. This place was really great! It's a smaller place with a long bar and a dinning area in the back. It gives off that classy Italian vibe. The risotto sticks were hands down amazing! They were light, crispy and oh so delicious. I ordered the braised lamb. It was solid but I would pick something different. It just wasn't memorable. I did steal a bite of my husband's filet mignon and stuffed pepper sandwich. Now that is something worth coming back for. The bun was great, the steak cooked perfectly and the stuffed banana pepper was true to Buffalo form, meaning it was delicious with just a little hint of spice. Let me start by saying if this review was based solely on the food, it would be five stars. Unfortunately the service was slow and though very friendly, just off for the most part. A couple girlfriends and I came to Osteria to celebrate a birthday. After being seated promptly and served bread immediately, we placed our drink order. One glass of wine, a mule and since two of us were going to drink prosecco, we asked if we could get a bottle instead of 2 splits. Server said sure, no problem! She returned and offered us a bottle of prosecco that 'the bar had just opened' about an hour ago, but there was one glass poured. This was their last bottle, but she would give it to us for the price of two splits. We said sure, sounds good! As she poured, there wasn't a single fizz or bubble in our sparkling wine. As our server walked away, we had a sip - completely flat. Either the bar was fibbing about just opening this or it was shook up and uncorked for about 5 hours. It was quickly replaced with an apology and two fresh splits after bringing it to the servers attention. The menu here is not enormous, but it is extensive and offers a wide range of options. The house salad was refreshing and the Cesar salad was plated beautifully as a half of a romaine head dressed. Collectively we ordered a chicken parm, salmon dish, and two of the shrimp and scallop dinners. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinners. My salmon was probably one of the best pieces I've had in a very long time. It was cooked perfectly with a wonderful crust. The farro risotto with pancetta was so flavorful I probably would have been satisfied with a plate of this alone! There was a pretty decent gap in time between our salads and mains which we really weren't sure why since we were one of only 4 tables. We ordered a piece of cheesecake for the birthday girl and even though the menu said it was a traditional with blood orange zest topping, we received a traditional piece with a pomegranate sauce and seeds. It was still good, but not what we were expecting. It also took about 15 minutes to come from the kitchen and at this point in the night it was 9:45pm and we were the only table left. Spotty timing will not keep me from returning to Osteria 166 because the food was great. We must have just caught an off night! read more

Although we had to wait a bit longer than planned for our table they were nice enough to buy us a round of drinks while we waited. We ordered stuffed banana pepper, garlic bread and Brussels sprouts appetizers - they were all bursting with cheesy goodness and were devoured quickly. For our entrees I opted for the Spaghetti and Meatball, my sister the Eggplant Parmesan and the other a special lasagna made with Bolognese and Alfredo. The special was the hit of the table but every meal was everything we were hoping for. The red sauce is just what I wanted as I'm traveling from Texas and miss my NY taste of home!
