First of all, when we came in to the restaurant, nobody acknowledged us. Kinda feeling ignored for a good 10 minutes. Finally we get someone's attention. The waiter sat us by the bar, closed to the kitchen. All thr waiters were busy and no body took our order for a while. Finally a very impatient waiters took our order. I was asking where is the pizza menu. And he lister all the pizzas they have super fast. I can only hear "margherita". So Margherita it is! Then I asked what kind of salad they have. He said " everything is right there on the menu, mam". I was like......okaaayyyyy.....that's kinda rude. So I ordered burratta salad and mozarella stick aside from the pizza. Then the mozarella stick came and I dropped both fork on the table. I asked the server which is not the waiter who took our order if I can get fork replacement. He said "no". And I asked ....whyyyyy...... Then the first waiter came and gave us 2 forks without apologizing. Okay..... it's food time. The mozarella stick tasted like frozen and being microwaved. The burata salad was okay. And the winner should be the pizza right? WRONG!! I can taste the raw dough. The pizza was undercooked. By the way we were very annoyed by the waiters kept yelling at the line cook inside the kitchen. They're so loud!!! Definitely will not come back. The risotto was runny in the extreme. Got the veal and sides were completely uninspired. Plain carrots, plain spinach, plain potatoes. Don't get me wrong. The food was good tasting but it was not great Italian food. Id expect a lot better for the price! We also felt slighted by the cost of one of the chefs specials. Most expensive item on the menu was $29 but the special turned out to be $35. Didn't think to ask, but it would have been nice if they had proffered the info given how far above the median price it was. Tonight was our second night in a row where we had the pleasure to visit this wonderful restaurant. The food and service were marvelous, the sense of place and ambiance really charming. But what made it all work so well was the commitment that the people had to the customer experience. When you feel that, then see it in action, it builds trust. I dig that. Cesar was exceptional. He communicates beautifully and has a warm and inviting sense about him. He also blends that with anticipatory service, which I admire. Rick, the owner is a lovely gentleman and true restaurateur. This is hard work. But he admires his people and they admire him. He gracious, present and kind. I love giving my money to restaurants like this. He cares for his people , they care for us. Grand. the ambiance and staff were all incredibly amazing, but unfortunately the food itself just isnt that great. my pesto was way more oily than the average pesto should be and tasted extremely bland, the mozzarella sticks i got were unevenly cooked with some bits being gooey and other bits being basically solid, and the tiramisu we ordered barely tasted like coffee and was also bland as well not sure if i'd recommend this place, but if you wanna try it, i say go for it! hopefully you have a better meal than i did read more

We were here 5:30pm~ on a Saturday (some specially danish festival) and we were seated right away. Only a few tables were occupied. Services were quick (I can't speak to how it's normally like as there weren't many ppl) and server was attentive to take orders, bring checks over etc. I initially didn't have much hope for the place as this wasn't where I intended to have dinner for our first time in Solvang (drove 5hr here) but we ended up here. The pizza special we got, was exceeded by expectation. I knew it wasn't wood fried when I came in, it surprised me that it's very crispy for the entire pizza. Normally for a thin crust pizza, the center will be pretty soggy or soft.. but theirs are crispy! I was pleasantly surprised. Caprese was okay. Very generous slice of mozzarella but not enough of basil to my liking. It's still yummy. We finished everything though not very hungry. I appreciate the quick service and allowed us finish our meal and go visit other places. I can't speak to how authentic this place is, but I'd say if you have to wait for a long line to get in other places, you definitely could instead give them a chance and avoid some waiting in other places. read more

After much back and forth, it was clear the server, nor the kitchen staff understood dietary restrictions and we ended up having to pay for an extra meal. A lovely dinner to end a busy night! We wanted something that wasn't deep fried with beer and this place just happened to still be open, so we snuck in right before the kitchen closed for the night. We split some mozzarella sticks and a Caesar salad between us as we waited for our entrees. Basket of fresh baked bread and olive oil on the table. Everything was crisp, fresh, tasty - just the way it should be. Service was accommodating and present when needed - the kind of atmosphere that is fitting for a romantic evening or a demanding family (cough cough my mom). We each tried something different from the dinner entrees. The sole Delfina was delicate and flakey, and the noodles were perfectly cooked with just enough lemon sauce. The Milanese di Pollo was deliciously seasoned and counterbalanced by the arugula and tomatoes. My mom thoroughly enjoyed her steak, cooked medium rare how she likes it. And I think my sixth sense helped me out here because I felt my Nordic salmon was the best dish of the night - every bite was bursting with flavor, and I wish I had some more of those delicious carrots covered in the sauce. The sauce was epic. I must have eaten an entire bread basket with the sauce by myself. Needless to say, there were very few leftovers... and the ones that we took back to the hotel disappeared overnight. Total success. read more

Came here for dinner one night while I was in Solvang for a weekend. It wasn't super packed (was a plus for us because it was a Saturday), and Italian food sounded so good! So it wasn't hard to decide on coming to Osteria Grappolo. We were a party of four, and we ordered the carbonara, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, and their seafood linguine. Everything was pretty tasty! Our server was attentive, and we loved the overall ambiance of the restaurant. Be warned though, they keep real candles at the table, and our bread basket just so happened to catch on fire when they dropped it off LOL *oops.* Made for a pretty funny moment tbh, but no harm no foul. To start with, I am sure the owner won't like my review and as he has done to those who weren't pleased with either the food/service, he will undoubtedly attack this review as well; however, I will give it my honest opinion as first and foremost I know a lot about Italian food and also a lot about customer service 20yrs to be exact and it all matters in a restaurant environment especially. I was on vacation in this lovely, cute town. I happened to walk around and noticed this restaurant being close to where I was staying and decided to go to dinner, too tired to go or think of any other place for our first day here and having driven quite far to get here. The restaurant is ok as far as the ambiance, not bad, nor great, I think the outside is more charming, but the weather is quite hot around this time in Solvang, so we were fine inside. We, along with only one other couple were the only one there. That's it, 4 people total, it was 6:30pm. Reason as to why I am mentioning only 4 people is this: The waitress Claudia came to our table exactly three times asking if we were ready to order after we clearly needed some time and told her so. We then ordered; I had the pesto pasta and my girlfriend the spaghetti with clams. The food was mediocre to say the least, never had pesto that had tomatoes in it and a piece of mozzarella cheese placed on top of it, odd, but wherever, overall, the taste wasn't terrible, nor great either. Had much better pesto for sure. My girlfriend who was looking forward to her dish was absolutely the opposite, it was blend, the sauce had zero taste to it, she kept putting herself salt and pepper to give it some taste, and I told her to return it, but she was hungry and frankly as she stated it, she wasn't in the mood to argue about it and wait who knows how much longer the second time around, the clams at least she did enjoy and wished she has asked only for a plate of clams as they tasted fresh and not from a can. Spaghetti overcooked. The worst part of it all, as already started to say, the service from Claudia. While we were waiting for our food, two other people walked in and decided to sit at the bar, they were quite close to our table, meaning you could hear them well, and again, we were now a total of 6 people in the whole restaurant. They ordered drinks at first and then asked for a menu and here is the best part of it all, same waitress, Claudia, the one that came to our table 3 times and only at the time the two of us to take care of, the other couple was already eating therefore she was done with them, Claudia tells these two people at the bar "let me tell you about our specials tonight" she mentioned ravioli, and I immediately looked at my girlfriend and said, "oh no, my favorite dish", and Claudia mentioned other specials. SHE NEVER TOLD US ABOUT THE SPECIALS!! First, when Claudia came back to our table after quite a while that we were served if everything was good and my girlfriend told her that her dish was not good except for the clams, she simply replied "sorry about that" and took her plate away and walked away, that was it and that was all, and then immediately came back and asked if we wanted desert, before saying yes, my girlfriend did ask her "I heard you telling them about the specials you had tonight, may I ask why you didn't tell us about them"? She did not reply and said, "I'll go get you the dessert menu". My girlfriend didn't like that at all and did say it again to her "I asked you why you didn't tell us about the specials, can't you tell me why"? How did you forget and it's not even busy and we were the only ones here? Claudia simply looked at my girlfriend with a nervous smile and shrugged her shoulder like saying "oh well, I didn't". Absolutely awful to not even apologize which still would have made us mad, but at least show some class, instead of shrugging your shoulders and walk away. The owner was there and was walking around and my girlfriend wanted to speak to him about it but every time we tried to see where he was, we couldn't find him, so we left after a while. I am sure from the way I see how he answered some of the people on here, that he would have backed up his staff instead of understanding how wrong this was. Claudia could have at least offered us desert to apologize and understand that she had made the mistake but instead was in a hurry to bring us the check. It would have made her look better. My mistake was to leave a tip at all, but instead of leaving 20% or more like I normally would, I only left her 15% which was too high for the lack of understanding and frankly bad customer service. Fortunately, this was a vacation for us, quite far from where we live and not a place that we have to worry about going again should we decide to visit Solvang again since there are many other restaurants around the area that we were told and now from experience know to utilize next time we visit this cute little town. read more

Drove 5 hours to Solvang, CA to see this little Danish town that my wife saw on T.V. a few years ago. Stopped by this place for dinner and the family wasn't disappointed. I got the penne bolonganese, daughter got lasagna, and wife got the Penne with mushrooms and sausage. PROS: Pretty authentic to Italian food, very delicious for the most part. Free bread in beginning with oil and balsamic on table. Good wine selection. CONS: Place looks like it hasn't been updated since 80s, service could be more attentive, and had to ask for the bill multiple times. Ambiance is dark with a poor attempt at romance. read more

I have to ask 4 times for my receipts and confront him. He is also promise to cancle the 1st chargr and give us the receipt to fill his tips. Please see below, this guy didn't cancle the 1st charge so he intentional charge me twice. I suspect that since he doesn't give us the receipt at this 1st. But the guy with tattoos, that's a whole another story. Seemed mad the whole time when interacting with us. Never brought two drinks we ordered. Came out mad when we wanted water refills. Overall a terrible experience. Again, definitely felt it was racially motivated. Food was okay but not worth this discrimination. AVOID! read more

Extremely Poor Experience - Discrimination and Disrespect I'm extremely disappointed and appalled by the service we received at Osteria Grappolo earlier today. Our large group visited the restaurant, but we requested to be seated separately, which seemed to be a problem for the staff. The waiters were openly rude and disrespectful, talking negatively about us within earshot. They refused to seat us, and when we asked to speak to the manager, their attitude didn't change. The manager's response was shocking - they took no action against the waiters' behavior and instead, only seated two of our parties, throwing the menus on the table. What's even more disturbing is that we felt discriminated against as Latinos. The staff's behavior and comments made it clear that they didn't want to serve us. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The lack of respect, discriminatory behavior, and poor management make this restaurant unworthy of patronage. Will not return. Edit: The table behind us was also complaining about the service, the environment was not pleasant, the staff was disrespectful and the manager did nothing about it! We left because even after only 2 groups of our parties got seated, we were never attended to after that and our other group hadn't even been seated, so we left. This restaurant is intended for Foodies! They get it, they prepare it, they serve it with expertise. We came the first evening for appetizers because we had a big lunch. Didn't disappoint. Had my 50th bday dinner here. Food was AMAZING!!! I had the Spaghetti w meatballs and my wife had the Fettuccine Alfredo. Both were AMAZING!!! For desert, I had the Panna Cotta. The Panna Cotta was a desert I had never tried before and will go down as probably my favorite Italian desert. It was light and good w caramel. This was our second time here in the past year. Our first visit was November 2023 and then again this evening. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Cesar was our waiter tonight and did a great job taking our drink order and explaining the specials and asking if we had any questions. The meals we had this evening were amazing. I went here for dinner. This place serves the first tray of bread for free. I like how there is a heat lamp so I wont get cold during the night. The food here is really good. What I ate: Beef carpaccio - 6/10 - I am not a big fan of eating raw meat but it tastes good. I like how they added salad with olive oil. I think they marinate the beef in vinegar. Octopus carpaccio - 9.5/10 - the octopus is topped with salad and I think vinegar goes better with seafood. The octopus is chewy and tender. Scallop risotto - 11/10 - The scallop is tender and bouncy and the risotto is creamy and well seasoned. It is my favorite food on the menu. Grilled salmon - 9.5/10 - The fish is tender and fatty and is paired with cooked carrots, spinach, and potatoes. Cannoli - 7.6/10 - It has a crispy shell and a ricotta filling. I really wanted to eat some Italian food after trying Olive Oil in the beautiful town of Solvang. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place and we were so happy there was an Italian restaurant here! My boyfriend ordered the lobster ravioli (special off menu) and it was really good. The bread also started off wonderful with olive oil, salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar at our table. Unfortunately, I have a few things I really wish I had spoken up about when I was there but I let it go. I ordered the Clam Linguini Vongole. I am so disappointed with this dish. At first, I was so delighted at how light the sauce and taste was. It was so good. But then as I continued to eat, I kept hearing crunchy noises in my mouth and in my ears and I realized there was a ton of sand in the clams. I should have spoken up and let the staff know how poorly made my dish was but I didn't want to cause an issue. I took the rest of my vongole home and tried to eat it today and it was so inedible. So much sand was in the pasta and the sauce had turned gray. I honestly am disgusted at the poor cleanliness of the clams. At least wash and make sure there isn't any sand so I'm not completely grossed out with my meal! I wish I had asked for a different dish or turned my meal back. read more

I visited here on New Year's Day and had an overall pleasant experience. I got the mushroom pasta with tomato sauce and I'm not sure if I would recommend it because it just tasted like normal spaghetti sauce - nothing special. First time to Solvang and what a disappointment !! We heard good comments from locals of this Italian restaurant (Osteria Grappolo) and waited in line for 40- 55 minutes as the front desk server kept disappearing. There were plenty of open seating available outside but for some reason they were disorganized and not seating anyone, this place should be taking names and giving wait times, not one party at a time. There had to be 20 people behind us waiting as well... they need to get their services in order. Next on to the service, our waitress did not speak clear English and was very difficult to understand and kept saying good, that's it, when we were still trying to order, ugghhhh When we received our food, I ordered the Pesto plate with shrimp and my wife ordered the chicken milanese with an arugula salad. The salad was fabulous, but the chicken was bland, no flavor at all, my Pesto plate was very watery and the shrimp was undercooked. The pesto (noodles) were made with rotini which should have been linguine you would think. Way too much oil and very little basil which made for a watered down dish. Waitress did take 10% off plate as she said it shouldn't be like that. Not... let me get you another plate or would you like something else. It was very cold and yes it's December... they did have heaters by the tables and decorations. Food is way overpriced but what do you expect in a tourist town. Solvang was a big disappointment as well, local shop owners said the Dutch folks of the past have left and has been taken over by other greedy cultures with overpriced trinkets. Really enjoyed my dinner at Osteria Grappolo, the food and service were both fantastic! Came on a Friday evening in December. The atmosphere of the outdoor seating was intimate and cute with string lights, and the architecture of the restaurant, unfortunately it was extremely cold so we opted to sit inside. The inside had a much older feel to it, but the warmth invited us right inside. Warm bread was delivered to our table immediately. Our server, Caesar, was patient and honest, when we asked about an item on the menu he admitted he hadn't tried it yet instead of making up that it was great. Really appreciated that. He also let us taste a few of the wines before deciding what to get a glass of. For food I opted for the spaghetti carbonara, it was rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. The portion was large enough that I took the leftovers home and had it for another meal. For dessert we got the flourless chocolate cake. We had mentioned that it was my birthday and were given a complimentary scoop of ice cream on the cake as well, it was a very nice and thoughtful touch.
