Hard to find something open on new years day. Happy they were open. They have an extensive menu of chicken pork seafood and vegetables and lunch specials. Called in for a takeout order. Restaurant staff that picked up the phone was friendly. Parking in this location kind of sucks. There is a 7eleven and Dollar Tree, so it's usually packed. Restaurant was inviting, I got greeted immediately. Pepper and salted chicken wings are the best and my usual go to. Stay away from the lemon chicken, it is always super dry and crunchy. They need to cut the cooking time in half. Still, should try this place. Great prices, great portion sizes. read more

I came here to order an item I almost always get at this restaurant. The man that asked me what I wanted to order yelled at me after my request, that they were out of the item, then with an angry hand gesture he waved me off to leave the premises. I was just stunned. What happened? I was kind in my approach to him. All I could do was leave in a dejected manner. Love this place, but nothing is worst than seeing them close early for no apparent reason. Online it says they close at 9pm, on the door it says they close at 8:45, but when I get here at 7:50pm they were closed. People were still inside eating. Very disappointing. read more

I consider Otay Mandarin the Royal Mandarin of Chula Vista. This is a solid option if you're in the area. The quality and quantity of food is comparable to the best of Chinese food establishments. On a side note, I can't believe how all Chinese restaurants have raised their prices to about an average of $18.00 a plate. Inflation sucks! On this particular visit, I only ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings and Mongolian Beef. The chicken is on point. Great crispiness and spice. They don't skimp on the garlic, red pepper and crispy goodness. I really liked the Mongolian Beef as well. A must for every order. Tender beef with onion and green onion...delicious. I made a reservation over the phone for a party of 8 people for a fasting dinner event for Ramadan. They are always very patient and kind. Customer service here is very fast and don't wait to long for food even if they are busy. It's not a long wait and you get the food on the table within the 10 minutes. I usually order some vegetable soup with a lot of side items like the noodles with shrimp, beef, and chicken. The salt and pepper chicken wings is a must order. WOW... how is this place busy at all and how can they possibly get 4 stars from anyone? this place is just BAD with a capital H.... So, lets start with their "WEBSITE" I am not sure if they threw it together or if someone did it for them, but when you google Chinese Food near me and they pop up, you click website and it is phone pictures of each page of their menu surrounded by ads. The menu it self must be a decade old because their prices online are 1/2 of what they are now in store. I thought wow affordable Chinese food... NOPE overly expensive 2 entrees 2 appetizers $70. So a month ago I'm going to a church fellowship and I need food so I order a tray of their Salt and pepper chicken wing and I think they cooked them twice for some reason. not great at all. then last night I ordered Kung Pao Chicken which was a strong 3 but short on flavor and lacked extra green onions and peanuts, then the real issue was i ordered Orange Chicken and much like the wings it felt as if half the chicken was cooked twice. Almost like chicken jerky but inedible. at least with Jerky you can "Chew it". and when did the orange sweet sauce for the cream cheese puffs come in jelly form vs a dippable liquid? & all this packed into a little space in a strip mall that hasn't been remodeled since they opened. make the drive to the next closest chinese food place it has to be better. read more

I called in my order: 1) Salt and pepper wings- comes with side of plain or fried rice 2) large egg drop soup - comes w/ fried wonton chips My order came out to $24.XX I was able to place my order right away and pick it up in 10 minutes but it's also a weekday lunch time. The restaurant is located across from southwestern college, a couple doors down from the dollar tree. You can only enter at the door and then they blocked the restaurant off with tables, so I don't know if they allow patrons to use the bathroom while waiting. There's a big parking lot. Sorry forgot to talk about the food. I appreciate that the chicken comes with a side of rice with our choice of plain or fried. I thought it was a good size service and I always like the extra fried garlic and peppers because I'll scoop it up and top that on my rice for extra goodness. My mil thought there was a lot of msg. I don't know, probably??? The egg drop soup is my daughters fave, she used to not like this restaurant egg drop soup because it comes with extra veggies like corn or carrot. Thankfully she's grown out of that and didn't complain about it today. The fried wontons were good too. (Side note: I've gone to their competitor restaurant before and the wonton chips had mold on it. So always check!!!) also the wonton chips were complimentary. This place is so good that it is well worth the drive down south to get it. On the way to visit family, we stopped by at 3:45p to order a full tray of Salted Pepper Chicken Wings (the best in town) and a half tray of steamed rice. We asked for a 5p pickup time. We had a death in the family and were feeding family members stopping by. The woman who took my order was super friendly and she said that it would be ready. Well, we arrived back at 5:02pm and waiting in the social distancing line for 4min; which was not bad at all. Our order was hot and ready! Thank you to Otay Mandarin for always making delicious food!
