Place is awesome. Hard to figure out what you want to order because you want the whole damn menu.

The fact that they only carry ranch and no blue cheese dressing is absolutely absurd! I've never known of any chicken place to only serve one and not the other! Great chicken great fries great shrimp but if I can't have the condiments, I like I will not be ordering the food! Owner should seriously consider adding one small change would bring in a lot of more business

If you want delicious catfish, amazing fried okra, and party in your mouth Hush Puppies this is the spot! The food is so delicious and prepared right. Amazing customer service. Clean store and kitchen. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Total hole in the wall inside a liquor store. Javier was good, he answered questions. The food was good, didn't even make it home. Portion sizes was plenty. Ordered the Fish Combo with rock fish and jumbo shrimp and the chicken tenders. Both came with fries and a choice of either macaroni salad or coleslaw. Definitely will be back..

Nice fried chicken and fish joint in Chula Vista. Captain Sams Fish and Chicken (CSFC) is a solid spot located inside of Mi Pueblo Sunny Market. They specialize in southern fried foods. Everything is breaded in a cornmeal and lemon pepper mixture and then deep fried. They offer a variety of seafood and chicken options. You can order scallops, shrimp, wings, boneless wings, and a variety of fish. Orders come with choice of mac salad or coleslaw, two slices of white bread, and fries (with the option to upgrade to a premium side for an additional fee). Moreover, CSFS lets you chose a soft fry or a hard fry (they cook the protein for a bit longer). ___F O O D___ My wife and I ordered catfish nuggets, salmon, shrimp, hush puppies, jalapeño poppers, and banana puddling. Everything was fried perfectly. The shrimp was my favorite out of the bunch as they were plump, juicy, and worked wonderfully with the lemon pepper breading. I thought the salmon was also good. It was more thin/crispy than thick/meaty. Personally, I think I'd just order the shrimp again or try out the cod before having another go at the salmon. My wife enjoyed her catfish nuggets. As for the sides. The fries were pretty standard. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing to complain about either. Their coleslaw, stylistically similar to kfc slaw, was more of the same. My wife enjoyed her hush puppies and commented on how elated she was to have found a place in SD that actually does hush puppies well. As for the jalapeño poppers, they were interesting. I don't think we've had lemon pepper jalapeño poppers before. Moreover, you could choose cream cheese, cheddar cheese, or a mix of both. They were tasty, but we like some other local spots better for jalapeño poppers. The banana pudding was ok. Nice texture. Nostalgic. I'm not sure if something was up with the bananas that batch or if they use artificial banana flavor, but it did have the slightest aftertaste. ___S E R V I C E___ Service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and polite. Our order didn't take long. Employees were nice enough to load us up on napkins, tartar sauce, ketchup, and their house-made hot sauce. Overall, we like this spot and will definitely return. It's worth checking out.

Looks like a hole in the wall Pleasantly surprised by the service, cleanliness, and quality for what you pay for Walked in about an hour to close and the chef was starting his side work to clean up. I asked if he was still cooking and he nodded and readily started to take my order. I got the cod fish and jumbo shrimp dinner with coleslaw and fries. It was so good! I'm going to try the catfish next time! The cornmeal was seasoned well and the food was not overly greased. He seasoned the fries with a special spice blend and it was so good! He made the food fresh with new batter and that speaks volumes with the taste when I got my order. While he was cooking, I walked around the mini mart and it was kept clean and organized and I bet it gets busier during the daytime. When I paid for the order, the chef said they've been there about 3 years and I said I'll have to come back soon to try the desserts they had! The food was bomb! Very well done and made with care. Did not taste old or overcooked.

First want to mention the customer service was great! The man at the counter was super friendly and attentive, even thought he was also crazy busy. I ordered a two piece cod dinner that comes with fries, Mac salad, and corn bread. Off the bat the corn bread was left out... no big deal. The Mac salad is store bought, nothing to rave about. The French fries were really good, they had a good crisp texture to them. The star of the meal was supposed to be the fish, but unfortunately my fish was over cooked which made it a little dense. Based on the customer service alone I'd try the place out again, but due to the lack of home made sides and the dry fish, I give the spot 3.5 starts. Oh yeah, I also bought a banana pudding, it was really good.

Sweet Corn Nuggets. MY FAVORITE!!!!! Would happily visit Captain Sam's again just to order another to-go box of these delicious bites.

Visiting from out of town and arriving late into the city, we found a quick spot for fish & chips just minutes away from our hotel. We ordered two of the Fish Dinners: rock fish/cod and cod/cod, and each plate came with a side of fries. However, the sweet corn nuggets was the BEST addition to our meal! Very tasty Cole slaw and Mac salad, as well. Location was inside a convenience store, nice and well-mannered working staff, despite being close to closing. Watched the food be fried on the spot, and the employee was friendly while taking our orders. 10/10 would recommend Captain Sams to our family and friends!

Matt was also great and customer service oriented and he took our order for table apps and drinks. The ambiance here is fun, family friendly, cool, and good vibes all around. They have a DJ some Saturdays. There are also very cool theme nights. Tonight was "Wing Wednesday". I posted a photo of the theme nights. When we first arrived, we sat waiting to be acknowledged, but the bartender never greeted us or checked on us. We eventually moved and sat at the bar just so we could place an order. The happy hour menu was also misleading. We ordered wine from the happy hour menu, but no one told us that only one specific wine qualified for happy hour pricing. We didn't find out until we received our bill and were charged full price. A simple explanation from the bartender when we ordered would have avoided the surprise. The happy hour potato skins were equally disappointing. Instead of traditional potato skins, they were very small potato wedges with minimal cheese and a few chives. They were served with ranch dressing, but no sour cream or any explanation that this was how they were prepared. As the evening went on, another bartender came on duty but never acknowledged us either. We also watched her struggle through several pitchers of excessively foamy beer before loudly shouting, "What the **** is wrong with the tap?" across the bar. It wasn't the level of professionalism we expected. Overall, the lack of customer service, poor communication about happy hour pricing, and disappointing food left us with no desire to return. There are too many great restaurants and bars in the area to spend money where customers don't feel welcome or informed.

Dessert was the biggest letdown. The mango sticky rice was honestly one of the worst versions we've ever had--poorly prepared and lacking flavor. The chocolate cake was so dry that it was practically inedible. The tropical décor and hidden tiki speakeasy "X" are interesting concepts, but the poor service and disappointing food overshadowed what should have been a special birthday celebration. I've been here for a few UFC fight nights and the times I've gone, they didn't charge a cover fee which is nice. Onto the food and drinks, I think Novo has the best non-alcoholic Kombuchas in the city and I don't drink alcohol, so I won't comment on that. The food is great quality and tastes delicious but the only complaint (which is why I didn't give 5 stars) is because for the price they charge, the portion is extremely stingy. I'm sure that's not a kitchen thing, but more of management. My favorite is the Mac and cheese with Brazilian sauce served in a cast iron skillet, definitely on the list of best Mac and cheeses. I would recommend you check it out, happy Yelping!
