I normally discourage my family from standing at the counter and diving into food, but I admittedly found myself doing exactly that (and felt NO shame). After trying Captain Sam's Fish and Chicken (the day before) at a friend's house, I knew I would need more ASAP. My mother is from Louisiana, and this is the closest to her authentic cornmeal catfish fry that I've had. Before I knew it, I was at home with a 12 piece tray of hot catfish, standing at the counter eating the first piece while humming and yumming to myself. Moreover, although what I ordered was from a different location than the day before, the taste was consistent, and that was very satisfying. I love that they have options on the level of fry (I prefer a hard fry for crispiness) as well as the seasonings. I was also pleasantly surprised that they have more than one location, so naturally I told everyone I know about it. We have been in there multiple times to pick up a fried catfish dinner. The food is always "on point" and has a lot of flavor but I recommend requesting no salt or seasoning on your fish or fries as they both have a lot of flavor already. Everyone that works there is very nice and you won't be left waiting around a long time for your food. You can always buy a drink or snack in the market while you wait. TBH I was kinda spectacle of Sam's because it's in a grocery store but trust me , the store is very clean and Sam's blends in so well you kinda forget you're in a connivence store. I ordered a two piece cod dinner that comes with fries, Mac salad, and corn bread. Off the bat the corn bread was left out... no big deal. The Mac salad is store bought, nothing to rave about. The French fries were really good, they had a good crisp texture to them. The star of the meal was supposed to be the fish, but unfortunately my fish was over cooked which made it a little dense. The chicken tenders, unfortunately, were overcooked and really dry. They included a bag of condiments & utensils with my order, which was useful. When I arrived to pick up my order, there were several to-go orders on the counter, but I was told by the friendly cashier my food wasn't ready yet and it would be a 5 minute wait. Shortly after, he and the cook started discussing my order and opening up the bags to find it. They opened every box and bag in my order to check it...compared it to my receipt...and then asked me to confirm what I ordered, which they confirmed on the receipt again. They closed everything up and the cashier took my payment. When I got home, the macaroni salads that were supposed to come with both combo plates were not included. So...dry, overcooked chicken...missing food items...made for not the greatest first-time experience.
