I had 3 companies come do consultations and provide quotes. I liked the guy from Otter the best, because he seemed to understand the problem and seemed honest. When our furnace/AC suddenly would not operate, we called Otter because they had given such good service in the past. However, the receptionist told us that all of their appointments were booked for the rest of the week. We explained that would be a problem because we are confined to the house 24 hours a day. Our A/C condenser unit would keep running indefinitely after the Nest thermostat had been turned off. I checked the Yelp reviews and picked Otter HVAC. I left detailed request on Yelp to Otter. Ali answered my Yelp query quickly, in 10-15 minutes, and we set up an appointment for the next day (a Friday before the long weekend). He needed a part, so he had to come back on Tuesday and installed the defective contactor unit. While we were testing it, The cooling fan stopped working. Alibi came out to inspect our 20+ year old furnace, which had been coming on intermittently. He identified a few issues that could not be fixed and said we would need a new furnace within the year, but should get carbon monoxide monitors right away for safety's sake. Since he could see right away that the furnace was irreparable, he didn't charge us for the visit - and did not give a hard sell for immediate replacement.
