For every Outback I've been to, this is the one they get compared to, and every visit here just reinforces my humble opinion that this is the best Outback Steakhouse east of the Mississippi. This one helps make my visits to NoVA much more pleasant. The artery clogging, cardiologists's best friend, bloomin' onion here is actually memorable. We did call-ahead seating for dinner on a Saturday night so we got seated immediately when we got there. Our waitress was enthusiastic and kind which made for a pleasant experience! The bread loaf we got was delicious and still warm! We got the blooming onion appetizer. It wasn't awesome but it was tasty enough to be one of those foods that you can't seem to stop eating. For the entrees, my family all got different items. I got the Marsala Sirloin. It was 5oz of sirloin steak with a mushroom sauce, broccoli, and mashed potatoes (it's supposed to come with Parmesan rice but I asked for mashed potatoes instead). Everything was delicious! The steak was very flavorful and tender. The mushrooms and sides were tasty too! I felt it was a great value at $12.99. The rest of my family enjoyed their steak quesadilla, ribeye steak, and burger. One small problem we had was that my dad's burger came out medium rare (looking even closer to rare) when he ordered medium. But when he saw this, the waitress took it back immediately. When she brought it back out, there was even a full side of new fries (my dad had eaten all of the original ones before sending the burger back). Overall, we were very pleasantly surprised. Saw an ad on tv for the 4 course meal for $15.99 so took the family on a snowy evening for an early dinner. We used to really enjoy Outback as it was typically very consistent but I think the center cut sirloin is priced where it's at for a reason. On the tough side and chewy although it was cooked nicely. On the positive side, the bread, the house salad with honey mustard and the loaded baked potato were all pretty good. I went with the french onion soup for a $1 upcharge and that was good also. I give them 3.5 stars as the sides were good but the steak was mediocre at best. I think I need to order a better cut next time... read more

I can't remember the last time I've been to an Outback, but we came here with my in laws for a random dinner together. My in laws like your typical chain restaurants, so although it's an odd choice for me, it isn't for them. Parking was a plenty, since it's on the border of Herndon / Reston away from anything busy like the Town Center or Tysons. It was pretty empty inside, too. I ordered a normal fettuccine pasta with no meat. It came in a small bowl, and tasted about on par with what you'd get from a microwave dinner. It did have a nice spicy hint to it though, which I liked. My mother in law tried it too, but she thought it lacked flavor. Her steak salad was apparently very good. Ordered outback for delivery at 12:25pm. The email stated that the estimated delivery time was going to be 1:19pm. I called and spoke with a manager at 1:36pm when the food still had not been delivered. He told me that the food was ready and waiting for a delivery driver but they were busy. I expressed concern with the food being cold by the time someone came to pick it up as it was already late. He asked if I wanted him to remake it and I said yes. I finally got my order at 2:27pm and everything was cold and overcooked. I highly doubt it was re-made as everything was cold, but the filet I ordered was either popped back onto the grill as it was medium to medium well and I ordered it rare - or it was just over cooked to begin with. The Mac and cheese was cold and congealed, the mashed potatoes were hard and cold, the fries were soggy and the chicken nuggets were also soggy. The only thing edible was the coconut shrimp. Don't usually write reviews for places I worked at but this place is extremely underrated. There is a very low turnover so their staff is so knowledgable about the menu and great at their jobs. There are so many cooks, servers, etc. that have been there so long and have gotten so good at what they do. The value here is unbeatable on food and almost on drinks as well. Probably the only review I'll ever write about a place I work and I only do it for them because I don't have a single bad thing to say about their food/service... Other than the coffee sucks, but that's coming from a coffee snob. I recommend any of the steaks. Outback used to be my go-to for decent low effort dinner. But the past few visits have convinced me to find a better option. we primarily use curbside takeaway, so calling for a fix is really more hassle than it is worth. however, they have gotten my order wrong consistently. I have gotten into the habit of doing a cursory check before leaving, but I don't go into every box. Really, if they are this consistent in getting orders wrong, it's not worth my time. They take FOREVER to answer the phone, or respond to anything. I sat there for 10 minutes before some even came out. I was wondering if their cameras don't work. I saw folks get out of their car and head in. THIS WAS NOT AT THE PEAK DINNER TIME EITHER! But my biggest issue is the steaks were WAY over cooked - Medium Rare is NOT Medium Well done. that hint of pink is nearly well done meat. (the past 3 times) we ordered loaded baked potatoes, with an extra side, and they didn't include ANY of the potato toppings. and there was a random extra salad in our bag. With curbside, there is usually a random BONUS item, but never anything I want. I mostly feel bad for the other order that was missing a salad. like my order was missing the potato toppings. My Dad is a joint venture partner for OSI--I have to say this is one of my least pleasant outback experiences. Bartender was great, but food was terrible. However worst of all, Les Ruben, the manager, is one of the rudest, least pleasant people i've met at any of the 50 plus outbacks i've been to. I hope corporate deals with him soon. read more

Three and 1/2. AOK plus a little more for a chain restaurant that's pretty consistent across the board. This chain offers ok food and mixed drinks for little cost. If I have a group of kids or teens, I can fill them up for a pittance here and they seem to enjoy the dimly lit ambience with references to "beer recycling" and kangaroos. Morton's it's not, but who wants to drag kids to Morton's or Ruth Chris's for an expensive cut of meat that they will likely just pick over? The whole "Down Under" thing makes me laugh. I've been to steak houses in Australia and this isn't it. Nonetheless, I don't want to belittle the value that the Outback chain offers (so cheap compared to many other options) on steaks and alcohol, but it seems more like light-handed Cajun rub to me. The seafood is unremarkable and fried foods sometimes taste like the oil needs changing, so i stick with grilled red meat. I usually get the filet or prime rib and prefer the sweet potato, salad, and steamed veggies to the garlic smashed potatoes or soup. The Gold Coast Rita's are about $4 and not too bad. That's like happy hour all day long. The wine list leaves a lot to be desired, but hey--it's an inexpensive chain restaurant. I'm sure its core customers would balk at paying as much for a glass of wine as they are paying for their steak, so I empathize. I have found the kitchen quite consistently competent in cooking my steak to order--if I order medium rare, I get the same degree of doneness every time and the food comes out in a timely fashion. Service is polite and efficient in my experience, even when I am with a large party. My advice is to order steak or prime rib and stick to mixed bar drinks instead of wine for best-tasting options value priced. read more

Having just gotten back from this restaurant, I feel that I can accurately tell other Yelpers how much this location sucks (especially on a Saturday night.) So we were on way back down from Harrisburg, PA, when we decided considering it was Saturday night, we would call ahead. So we called the restaurant and got placed on the list for 6:30 pm. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:20 pm and were starving like no one's business. We waited 20 minutes in front of the hostess stand and decided to grab a table at the bar instead, hoping it would be faster. So we get our table and a few minutes later our waiter comes by and takes our order for drinks. 10 minutes pass and he actually comes back with our drinks and one of the famous Outback bread plates. We give him our orders for dinner. 20 minutes pass and we actually see him again and ask him for some more bread. During this time, I notice another couple sits down to one of the bar tables next to. (Yes, this is relevant.) Another 10 minutes pass, and he comes back with our bread. Not our food mind you, but our bread. A total of 55 minutes pass before we even get our food, which let me tell was gobbled down in 10 minutes flat. Our waiter was no where to be seen during this time. Granted, we know the place was busy, but it's a Saturday night...it's always busy. The other couple that is sitting next to us, who arrived much after we did, has already gotten their food and left by the time we finish our food. UNBELIEVABLE! We finally grab our waiter to get us our check and when he comes back with it swiped, we noticed he charged us the wrong amount. Being the responsible patrons that we are, we didn't want to leave without paying for what we actually ate. So we had to track down a manager at this point, which meant we had to wait another 10 minutes. The manager finally comes by and offers us some lame ass apology for the meal and why it was so damn late. Nothing off our bill mind you, but some promise that she'll send us some card for a complimentary meal for some other time. I doubt we'll ever see it, but whatever. We've been to this location several other times prior and never had an experience like this. We spent an hour and half in this restaurant and were so disappointed, that I don't think we'll ever be going back. read more

I've had a sudden craving for STEAK, as I just finished watching a show on the Food Network that explains all the great places in the country that serve up a great steak. Well, I ain't anywhere near NY, Boston, SF, or Texas right now, so I'll just settle for Outback, since it's pretty close to where I live. I've been to a few other locations near Fairfax, and they all suck. This Outback in particular had excellent customer service the few times that I've been, and last night's dinner and service was exceptional as well. I'm sorry to read about other fellow Yelpers who hated this location, but I have to give it 4 stars for great friendly service, almost no wait time at all on a Sunday night, and they always make my steak the way I like it. I knocked off one star because they forgot about my silverware. We started out with Seared Ahi as the appetizer and that was delish. You get about 10 pieces of lightly seared blackened Ahi and it just melts in your mouth. For under 9 bucks for Ahi .. c'mon, it can't get better than that. The hubby and I each ordered a medium rare Melbourne steak. I highly recommend this steak, because it's a nice piece of porterhouse. You are in a sense getting two types of steaks (one side of the t-bone is sirloin and the other side is tenderloin). Yummy! This place never over cooks my steak and I just love it! Ooh, remember when you get your bread to ask them to bring you some honey butter. Our waiter recommended that, and the bread just tastes fantastic. I spent my Valentine's dinner at Outback Steakhouse last night. I know you feel bad for me and wonder why I would put myself through such torture, but it was all in the name of friendship. You see Valentine's day is also one of my best friends birthday's, so she got to pick where we went for dinner. Anywho, I arrived at Outback at 5PM last night. I will note that due to the retarded amount of snow we've received over the past few weeks parking is scarce. So circle around the lot, steal spots from little old ladies, break out that "Handicap" sign, pretty much do what you must to secure yourself a spot or you won't be eating anytime soon. I was the first of my party to arrive, so I put myself on the list. Yes, unfortunately at 5PM there was a wait, but it was only 5 minutes. Why do they keep this place so dimly lit. What are the trying to hide? Perhaps the stickiness of the tables, or crustiness of their food... The rest of my party arrived within 5 minutes or so. We settled in and ordered. I split the Valentines Special with one of my friends. A blooming onion to share, a signature salad each, 9 ounce sirloin each, homemade side each, and a cheesecake to share. Our server was great. Attentive and friendly. The food however took FOREVER to come out. We ordered at about 5:20 and didn't receive dessert until 7:45. What the hell are they doing back there...killing cows? The bread they offer to start is quite yummy, however I do wish it had come out warm. The blooming onion was just ok, not as good as I'd remembered, I wouldn't order it again. The salad I got, the blue cheese chopped salad was really good, the best part of my meal in fact. The steak was just ok. I ordered it medium, it came out medium well. For my side I got a dress baked potato, just ok as it could have used alot more cheese. Cheesecake was the kind you'd buy from Safeway. I wouldn't really come here again unless forced. read more

They added a bunch of new under 600 calorie options, a few of them being Ahi Tuna...I definitely didn't think a chain like Outback would do Ahi correctly but I was pleasently surprised to be wrong when I got the Ahi Tuna Salad. It was very delicious! Wallaby Darned also very good as usual. I had to take a star down cuz our waitress was not great. She took quite awhile in between every visit to our table, and my salad still had almonds when I asked none, at least twice. read more

OK.... so the munchkin was in the combined mood for some seafood (namely shrimp) and Outback... So yelping it we found the closest one to our location at the time. This Outback is small considering their other locations, kinda dingy and if you blink you miss it... The little asked for a side of shrimp given they had no Shrimp Scampi entree. On the plus side, it was unlimited so YAY! I asked for the Mahi plate given I wanted to eat something light and I am allergic to any kind of nuts and sesame they make the other plates with. I asked for the fish to not be overcooked and slightly medium. Needless to say my Mahi was overcooked to death, rubbery... and unsalted. So I sent it back and the nice manager comes to my table and asks me all the routine questions regarding what do I mean by unsalted, the dish is lightly salted but in no way should I say it was unsalted. That kinda ticked me off a bit, but ok... Minutes later, the manager himself comes back with the new plate of Mahi and insist I try it in his presence to make sure it was ok... I do. And you guessed it! Salty as hell. I told him this plate unedible it was so salty, my daughter tries it and agrees. Yet the manager insisted he saw the chef salting my plate and "he didn't see the chef pouring out the salt". This I didn't like so I invited him to try the fish which he declined but he did say "we shoulda have just put a little salt on the last Mahi" I almost lost it but I just said, it was overcooked tho... I would lived with the unsaltiness. At the end, he did offer the Clam Chowder and to comp the Mahi which I accepted given I was already turned off for Mahi :( It was good, I have to admit. Me and my parents were walking in Reston when my dad decided we should steak and I suggested Outback Steakhouse. I had heard it was good from my friends. I had 9 ounce Ribeye and my dad and mom had chicken salad and Cobb salad. I also great fries that are unique to the steakhouse I have many fries but this was full delicious oil. This establishment has a such dated concept, is ridiculously overpriced, and was just a downright depressing place to eat a meal. It seems like this restaurant chain needs an overhaul. I felt like way back when Outback was something unique but all these years later having not been inside one I felt like I was stuck in a time warp. The same decor and corny Australian theme? Really? Surely Australia has more to offer. The menu prices have really gone up and the food is just not that special. There are so many places nowadays to have a good steak. The steak was great the apps were pretty good (wings) and the service was very nice too. No reason to avoid this place. Yes its dark, they're going for atmosphere with the lighting so if you have problems reading menus then yea bring a flashlight (lol) but otherwise you'll be ok its not like you'll need night vision goggles to get around. Maybe I like this place because I always do the "curbside takeaway" instead of eating in. The few times I have eaten there, it has been crowded and slow. It is pretty dark inside but otherwise has a nice atmosphere and large bar. In terms of food, I've eaten here since the early 90s and it's always been like every other Outback I've ever had. The ribs tend to be either great or terrible...based on the supply, I suppose. I like the chopped blue cheese salad and the new Monterey Chicken Quesadilla - the portion is enormous but you can order a 1/2 portion as well. Also be aware that you can ask for the blooming onion "well-drained" if you choose to indulge, where they remove more of the frying oil. I know their baked potatoes used to be coated in lard and rock salt before baking, this may have changed since but I would ask before trying one again. If you avoid dining in on weekends or especially if you get take-out, this place is a safe bet. You don't even have to get out of your car if you pick up, and they even put it in the backseat for you. Pretty nice when you have little ones in the car! read more

Dropped a star due to their insane "no microbrews allowed" policy. The bartender here, Jay, tried (in vain) to get this location a few stellar micros, but was told in so many words "no microbrews!" Get with the program, Outback! People love craft beer now. I found out last night that Mitt Romney's Bain Capital now controls Outback. That would explain the embracing of the spit-out worthy mass produced corporate swill (Miller Lite, Bud Light, Bud, et al) that Outback offers. And it would also explain the "screw the independents, screw the local breweries" mentality of Outback. The absence of Obama's favorite beer (Yuengling) makes perfect sense now. Fat Tire? Sorry, a miss - Fat Tire blows (pun intended). They even removed the non Fosters Aussie options (James Boag). Sam Adams is about as good as the beer list gets here. With this anti local/anti independent philosphy, forget about finding Virginia wine here as well, but you can bring your own bottle and they'll uncork it for a reasonable price of $10. That's one law Mr. Romney can't change in Virginia. This location is in walking distance to my apartment, the food is always good, the atmosphere is right (not too noisy) but the beer Nazis at the corporate office should be sacked. read more

With no options for a good steak at a decent price ANYWHERE near Herndon (or possibly NOVA for that matter) Outback is the only choice. Sadly, it is always hit or miss. Sometimes the steak is tough, sometimes tender. Sometimes cooked the way I asked, sometimes less or more. Last visit, girlfriend asked for medium, received rare and had to send it back. At least they are pleasant about it. I imagine the wait staff is used to sending steaks back all day. Apparently, nobody ever told them what they're supposed to do. The hostess managed to seat us, with some help, and they promptly took our drink order. But then they forgot to actually bring the drinks. We ordered appetizers and they came and went before the drinks came. The little mac and cheese balls were OK but they should rename the Bloomin' Onion the "Greasy Onion". (There's a trick there, -if you change the oil now and then, the fried foods don't end up completely saturated with grease.) When they brought the main course, they hadn't picked up the appetizer plates first and they didn't know where to put the food. So we picked up the appetizer plates ourselves and they put the food down and walked away, leaving us holding the plates. Like I said, they just don't know what they're supposed to do. Usually can't go wrong with Outback. We go to this location regularly. The staff that welcomes you when you arrive is friendly. They usually are there to open the door for you when you arrive and leave. They have a few really good waiters and the last few visits we've been lucky to get one of them. The owner is usually present too which is nice and makes you feel as if he cares about his restaurant. Our regular items to order usually consist of the Outback Special, the ribeye, sometimes the Victoria's Filet. On occasion someone will get the sandwich on the focacia bread. Love the garlic mashed potatoes and the wedge or the standard side salad. Steaks are always cooked the way we order them. Last visit we tried one of the new chicken dishes - Parmesan Herb Crusted Chicken. It was really good. We will keep coming as long as the staff and food remain consistent. read more

I shouldve known better than to order chicken at a "steakhouse." I do not want to even call it a steakhouse; thats an insult to the poor cows. Anyways, chicken overcooked, the herbs were probably expired, the parmesan was out of a bag somewhere. The seasonal veggies were dry brocolli I would feed birds at the Reston Town Center. The mashed potatoes were a blob (please see pic). It instantly dried up my mouth as soon as it hit my tongue---no flavor. Good food. Australian themed restaurant. Dimly lit which is just the atmosphere I like. We love the bread here. The steaks are a hit or miss, sometimes it is horrible sometimes it is good. Lots of parking space. Nice "take away" curb for to go. You don't have to get off the car. Your order will be handed out to you. Waiters are very nice but the manager is so RUDE. Restaurant charged our bill incorrectly and when I complained he assumed it was costumer's error. We left very upset. What a let down. Our server tonight was Josh. I have to say, I am truly impressed. The table next to us were some royal a-holes and he handled it like a champ. I kid you not, I wanted to high five the guy. If I had to serve that couple I would've bashed my head against the wall. Anyways, he handled them with patience and grace. I have been to this particular location twice now, and both times my food and service have been great. I always order steak at Outback (of course).
