Sorry, I really haven't been excited about anything lately. Today I am at Outback, the service here has been nothing short of amazing. I really needed a tenderloin tonight. I've had hundreds of them. This is easily the third best I've enjoyed during all my travels. This says a lot!!! The steak was super tender, just the right meatiness, cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned, I mean it was great. I've attempted to leave a positive review twice, but it seems like it's always a challenge. The food, which is supposed to be a highlight of the restaurant, is consistently undercooked. It was good. We had a group of 5 and went on a Thursday evening. It wasn't too crowded, so we got right in and were seated right away. We had a server who made sure we had what we needed. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Nikki shouldn't be the manager of this place!!! She's a horrible lady with the worst customer service ever!! They charged us more than we were supposed to be charge and her response is "there's nothing I can do", no sympathy, no apology for charging too much!! Not to mention the food was horrible!! We absolutely love the Hickory, NC location. We usually order to go and have little to no issues with our meals. Our meal today, 04-17-26, was perfect. All of my individual instructions for each order were done and correctly. Food was hot and fresh with generous portion sizes. Really disappointed. Ordered the three course meal. Salads were great, except we had to ask twice for silverware. Entrees were delayed; server mentioned that the "kitchen was backed up". My steak was so overdone and tough. In hindsight I should have sent it back. No refills on drinks, no inquiry about how the meal was until mostly finished. Had the croc bite cocktail while I waited. It bad if you like really sweet drinks. I ordered takeout. Salads were good which is pretty consistent for Outback. The soups were barely over half full in the cup so def. Not worth the money. The center cut sirloin which is usually very lean almost fat free had two large hard grissle on each side of it making a third of it inedible. And the packer left out the side of sautéed mushrooms which I didn't realize until I was back at the hotel. read more

My wife and I hadn't been to outback in years and decided to go out to dinner. At first we were just going y go light but I decided to take her for a sit down meal. The server was polite friendly and attentive taking our drinks and meal orders straight away. We got the drinks and then waited and waited for bread or meals, finally bread came and a minute later our waitress said your meals are out next. We watched a family seated long after us get their appetizers, salads and still no meal. we have mostly had positive dining experiences at the Hickory, NC Outback but our last visit was so unpleasant that I had to leave a review. we were there Wednesday around 12: 45; it was not very busy. our appetizer was overcooked, as was my coconut shrimp. I ordered a chopped pecan salad and got a house salad - told the waiter and got a small cup of pecans. Never got the soup I ordered- but got French fries as substitute, as I asked for. There was no problem with the waiter and staff, but clearly there was lack of knowledgeable help in the kitchen. The background music was blaring - we had trouble hearing the waiter and he had trouble hearing us. My dining companion and I could not hear each other. I left with a headache. I rarely come to outback, because of past experience with Outback. We picked this one ONLY because it was near our hotel. The first excuse is they don't have enough help, ok, that's not my problem. Service was bad. The girl obviously had little experience and was way too busy. She kept forgetting things. Soup was delivered with no spoon, other waiters said the would tell our waitress. A bus boy finally got us a spoon. My filet steak was super well done. Couldn't not eat. The waitress never came back to check with us, she did remember to see if we were ready for a check. Bread was promised, it showed up after dinner. This experience was as expected. The days of five star OutBack meals are gone. read more

Our server Darian was absolutely amazing! We started w 7 people and ended up having 12 (last minute add ins) and everyone was very helpful and friendly with figuring out what and where everyone needed to be! 10/10 recommend! Also I haven't had a steak cooked the perfect med well anywhere and I was highly impressed with the quality of food and service! If you come make sure you ask for Darian! We had bad service on July 4, 2025. My family and I ate at this Outback Steakhouse. Our waiter hardly never came back to see if we needed anything. We had two people in our group got potato soup and it was cold. We waited for over an hour for our food. We talked to the manager about it and he done absolutely nothing but said he had two employees to walk out. He didn't bother telling us or no one in the restaurant what was going on until we ask to speak to the manager. We was at another restaurant one time and they had one employee to walk out. The manager came out and told everyone what was going on. He had his hostess to tell customers as they came in what was going on. He gave everyone in the restaurant 50% of there bill. This manager at Outback done absolutely nothing. If he keeps managing like that he is going to be out of a job because people are going to stop eating at this location. I am not one to complain but when you spend over $100.00 on a meal you should get good service, food, and an enjoyable meal. We got none of this tonight. read more

7 of us Had dinner there tonight. Waited 3 hours to get our food. Then my steak was all fat. They offered to redo it. That took 30 minutes to get it. So basically I had 2 slices of bread and a baked sweet potato for dinner. Plus my blooming onion was burnt because of the bad oil in the fryer. My husband's potato soup tasted nasty. Yet that's how long it took and I left with no dinner, but they did give us 20$ in gift cards. I order here because I know it will be good food. I ordered through doordash and I was very pleased. The only thing lacking was no utensils. I've not gotten utensils from them 3 times in a row. Thank goodness I order to work (Hospital) or home where I have access to some, but that's a big thing. The food is always delicious. I usually order a salad with a steak ontop and they cook the steaks perfectly rare for me. The salads have a lot of cheese and yummy nuts. Went about 3pm on a Friday. Restaurant was basically empty of patrons but full of dirty un bused tables. Sat at the bar for about 10 minutes being ignored by the bar tender who was chatting it up with some male customers. Finally, the only other woman in the bar had to interrupt her to get her check . Got a salad that wasn't great. Asked for a side of dressing and never got it. Overall, after seeing the dirty tables I should have walked out and gave it a miss. I wanted to give this Outback an average (3 star) rating because I simply felt like the food and the service were both mediocre. Our dining experience took us two hours from start to finish. I feel like when you're eating out, it shouldn't take at most 30 minutes to get your food. Especially when it's not dinner time, or busy. The food was okay. I think the best thing I ordered was the steak, which was cooked perfectly. The Mac n cheese isn't what it's made out to be. It has a heavy pepper taste. The fries taste frozen which was kind of disappointing. I also ordered a brownie, and it was piled high with ice cream and chocolate shavings. It was pretty tasty, but definitely enough to share with one or two other people. This place looks like a cafeteria with bad lighting. Your food will be brought to you on a sliding tray. The manager was also sliding a tray around collecting plates and scraping left overs onto another plate on the tray in the dining area which was the most bizarre thing I've seen at a restaurant. The servers are friendly and nice. So is the atmosphere. I like their Alice Springs chicken and loaded baked potato which is usually what I get when I go there. Also love the Victoria filet and their salads. But! What has happened to their brownies in their Thunder from Down Under dessert??? It doesn't look like a brownie anymore. It looks like a flat brownie slab covered with ice cream and all. Maybe they think you won't see it? But I do see it when I order it by delivery. It's all separated. If they would just copy ChikFilA's brownie it would be delicious again. The dessert is tasty altogether even though the brownie lacks some flavor and it is visually appalling, not appealing anymore. I also wish they'd bring back the strawberries on vanilla ice cream with toasted coconut flakes and hot fudge. I give them a 5 but only for the meals I mentioned. I give them a 2 for their desserts. So I'll have to give 4 overall. Skip dessert and just get a Snicker bar on your way home. You can do better Outback! read more
