Had a really good experience here last night. 12/28/23. Waiter was awesome. We had about 6 people and there was an issue with our order. The waiter and manager solved the issue right away and we all had an amazing dinner. 12/22/23 around 2:30, not that crowed but took an hour and a half to get food. Husbands steak was overcooked and the chicken on the combo he got was soft. Unfortunately He ate it and was so sick all night and morning. He took the steak home so we know it was the chicken. Wonder how many others got sick, older couple there waited so long they took their steaks home. Terrible. Never going there again. read more

This Outback was similar to any other Outback in the chain. The food was okay. I got the Victoria's Filet Mignon and asked for it to be medium well and it came out very red...I'd say maybe even rarer than medium. A bit of a letdown. Other than that, the food was alright. Too dark inside. Service was very slow. And the sad part was, that all the people that were there could have been sat to one side of the building. This place is not like it used to be. The service has gotten completely worse. My wife and I sat for almost 15 minutes even before the server stopped by the table. Then is was anther 5-10 minutes before we got our drinks. And from the time our order was take to the time we got our food was almost 50 minutes to an hour. My food was done but almost cold. My wife got her drink refilled, but mine never was. There are many other steakhouses in the area to go to. Too bad restaurants like this don't seem to get it. read more

Busy on a Saturday night. We sat a the bar, but we didn't mind because we wanted food asap. I got the 16oz prime rib, and it was a big and delicious piece of beef. Flavorful and moist. The baked potato and steamed broccoli were what you'd expect. Had the Black Barrel Irish Tea (sweetened tea with mint and whiskey), and it was decent. The bread was really good. I've had mixed experiences with Outback (at different locations), but I was pretty happy with this one. Generally, I think rating chain restaurants on Yelp is an exercise in wasting time since they're all more or less the same no matter where you go, but I'm pretty low on local places to review so why not. This Outback is plagued by pretty much the same thing that many Hickory restaurants are: inconsistency. Service is usually pretty bad here I've noticed as a general rule. Impolite, lacking basic common courtesy and generally inattentive. But that's just a personal observation and not indicative of everyone working there. Food is okay, depending on when you go. Steaks are cooked on a wild spectrum (medium rare will get you anywhere from almost raw to medium well depending on who's cooking). In retrospect, just go to Longhorn. You'll be better off most likely. read more

Wow ... wonderful blooming onion but the meat was awful.... Husband's prime rib was full of grissle and totally inedible. My md filet was over cooked and dry. Air conditioning so cold and obviously patrons' comfort wasn't a consideration. Mark this off our list until we hear they have improved. We ordered curbside takeaway today and the meal we got was poor. I was excited about ordering cheese fries, I usually order them from Fatz. They were a clump of fries and cheese, almost impossible to eat and no extra bacon as I ordered. I ended up throwing them away. I spoke with a manager by phone and he said " His solution was to offer me a credit for cheese fries on my next order. Wow! Waitress was great with a busy room. We had the seared ahi tuna, but didn't know before hand they were out of the ginger soy drizzle that really completes the dish. The smoked porterhouse was disappointing. I ordered medium rare and the filet was red and beautiful except the cook butchered it horribly trying to slice it. This is now the second time I've ordered this pasta ToGo and both times I received chicken instead of shrimp. The receipt clearly says steak and SHR!!! How can SHR and Chicken be confused on multiple occasions. The word chicken doesn't even have an S or an R in it. Don't normally do so many chain restaurants but they were all walking distance from my hotel this weekend. On to the review. Awesome service. Separate GF menu. Steak and loaded mash potatoes with a side of crab legs. Steak was closer to medium then the medium rare I ordered but properly spiced so forgiven :). Incredibly slow service. The food was great but we were there more than two hours just to eat. Each item seemed to take forever.

We ordered online as a to-go order. I completely recognize that demand for take out is high with COVID and as such, there is a learning curve to making this process run smoothly- but we show up at the allotted time (27 minutes after ordering) and waited 35 more minutes for our food to come out. We didn't order anything crazy- 2 sirloins and a kids burger meal. In that time, we had two different people ask what the name for the order was--one who asked and then not even five minutes later we see leave clearly at the end of their shift and who never connected with anyone else to let them know we were there and it took another 10 minutes before anyone else asks what the name of the order is. Again, we try to be understanding knowing how different demand is, but this was too much. Absolutely the worst service, food, and experience today. I went to lunch with my parents and had about a 15 minute wait for a table. It was more like an hour wait. After we sat down, the waitress said she would be back shortly but ended coming back 10 minutes later just to take our drink order. After 5 minutes of waiting for our drinks she came back to take our order. We ordered a blooming onion to start off with and when we received it it was RAW. We pointed it out to the waitress and in the most monotone voice " oh I'm sorry" and she walked on. When we got our food the steaks were not cooked as ordered and forget about getting drink refills. Everything was pretty good. Clam chowder had to be reheated but hubby likes his soup really hot. After they heated it, it was excellent.! I had a blue cheese wedge, again pretty darn good, could have used a little more dressing and that balsamic reduction that they drizzle on top is magnificent, I always ask for a little extra and take it home. We shared a prime rib and it was really food. Overall we were very content and happy. The only reason they got a 4 instead of a 5 was the waitress. She was very nice and fairly attentive, but like I said needed more dressing and by the time she came around my wedge was almost gone. We were a group of six staying at a nearby hotel. Originally we were told we had to wait for a large open table. The restaurant didn't seem that busy so we kind of looked around and saw that a portion of the restaurant had lots of large empty tables. We asked for one and was told that area was being closed for the evening. Not wanting to wait we asked for the manager. The manager was very accommodating and seated us and even volunteered to be our server until another waiter could help us. Our orders were taken and we were treated very nicely. Food was good. Since there are very few steak places here that are not chain restaurants, this ends up being one of the best choices around. Usually you get great service. Went here recently and it was not as busy for a weekend night. Service was on par, but not amazing. Food was good all around where I got the steak and shrimp combo. I totally understand a higher demand for takeout during COVID but after trying to just place a to go order for 15 minutes and getting hung up on twice, we decided to go to Longhorn, who took down our order after a brief hold. Outback Steakhouse in Hickory has the same standard levels as any other Outback that I've been to. The food is always good, but I find it to be over priced. You pay a lot for the atmosphere in a place like Outback. This particular location is a nightmare to get into Friday-Sunday. The line always goes outside the door, and the wait can be upwards of 2 hours. It has some of the longest wait times in the city. If you're willing to deal with the wait, you most likely will not be disappointed. Finding a parking space can be a right nightmare. We have had to circle the parking lot for upwards of 20 minutes waiting for someone to leave and free up a space. The wait staff is very accommodating at Outback. They make sure you are satisfied with your meal, and go above and beyond by packing up left overs for you. They're always very friendly, and are trained well. Will you get the best steak in Hickory here? No. Will you get a decent one? Yes. read more
