Ok, so this is honestly my first time ever at an outback steakhouse. My family and I were traveling through Newington ct and decided to stop here. I got the sirloin and ribs with Mac and cheese and mixed veggies, my daughter got the grilled cheese and my wife got a burger. My steak was ok, the ribs were mostly fat and tasted off, the Mac and cheese just tasted like almost plain noodles, my mixed veggies were barely cooked I couldnt even eat the carrots. My daughters grilled cheese wasn't even melted, but she liked the fruit. And my wife's burger was ordered medium rare, what she got was close to a hockey puck and the cheese was also not melted at all. Went there today, 3/25/24 around 6p, craving a steak. Havent been to this Outback in a few years but never had one bad meal when I did go there. Well, today was an absolute bust, so much so that I will not be returning. When you're labeled as a steakhouse, and boast a prime rib calling it the "Outback" prime rib, then you should deliver. The prime rib that my mother and I ordered at $26 a piece were the worst pieces of meat we have ever had at any restaurant. I ordered mine medium, my mother, medium well. Mine came out rare and one portion even raw! My mother couldn't even put a fork in hers. What is wrong with this picture? A steak house that doesn't know how to cook steak?? Whoever was on shift that evening needs a retraining or a new job. F***inf awful. The manager tried to rectify the situation, and brought my mother another lousy steak, rib eye. I never have a bad meal at outback! Great food at a very reasonable price. Outback center cut is my go to meal and the steak is always juicy and flavorful. Their potato soup is awesome as well! There were no signs around the restaurant to provide directions to the entrance. Entrance is "outback". There was wait line, so we decided to take the booth near the bar. Service was poor. We had to wait 15 minutes to get the cheque. Salad was missing, when the meal was served. We had to remind them.Silverware weren't provided. The manager who went around asking every table about their service, skipped our table for "some" reason. Their beer menu explains about each style of beer, but they don't carry all varieties..e..g. After being here for two hours, I left annoyed and dissatisfied. Probably one of the worst experiences I had at this establishment in a while. Went tonight for dinner with my daughter, we sat down around 615. Drinks, bread and soup arrived hot and quick and that was the best part of the night. Might I add that we ordered everything ALL at once. 45 minutes go by and I noticed that tables that sat down after us or ordered after us have already received their food. At this point I'm visibly annoyed and the waitress only came by once to see "where we're at" with our food. Unsure why it would take 45 minutes for a medium steak and a kids Mac and cheese...... ANYWAYS our food came out and I immediately sent back my daughters Mac and cheese. Looked like it jus died in the window for those 45 long minutes. The Mac and cheese was cold and congealed and BROWN. Disgusting. I wouldn't feed that shit to a stray animal. My medium steak came out rare and I didn't bother to send it back simply because I didn't wanna wait another 45 minutes for my food. The entertainment of the night was me watching a waiter talk shit about his tables to two of his coworkers that were dining in on their day off. Listening to that was a turn off within itself. We have gone there so many times and it just keeps getting worse! My husband had his steak undercooked, overcooked and actually, butterflied! Finally, 4 times in, it was close enough to eat. Meanwhile, I had finished and ready to go. The manager was cooking in the kitchen (not on the floor where managers belong). She Oversaw the cooking and recooking of the filet! Obviously, not a Chef, nor a good manager. Darn it she kept saying, each time my husband cut into his steak to find it wrong, yet again. We customers were helping each other; passing condiments. I, actually, got up and found Salt & Pepper off a table nearby. A little hint, chefs can cut into the underside to ensure the cooking is accurate! Eventually, the manager took his dinner off our menu and offered my Husband a free beer. Mine was empty but whatever, I ordered one from the "Bartender" and finally got one. The Manager noticed and said to comp mine, as well. The worse part was the "Bartender" who spent all her time in the kitchen. She had 3-4 people at the bar, 2-4 people at tables but she stayed in the kitchen...? We all needed "something" but she was hiding in the kitchen. When food was delivered, not by her, no questions, "want salt and pepper"? When the bread was finally delivered, no bread plates were brought out. When my husbands' salad came, no plate to drop his croutons onto. Service was horrible, bartender should be a dishwasher and stay in the kitchen not serving customers; no personality at all!! She had no interaction with any of the customers other than taking orders and running back to the kitchen. We have been there many times over the years, they usually have bread plates, to-go boxes, etc behind the bar. This time, each request resulted in her running back into the kitchen to retrieve the items. The sighs from customers (waiting for a drink, check or whatever) was audible! Called ahead in the morning for 14 patrons to dine with me and had an exciting night planned... only to find out that every server refused to service us. I picked up my order they have a good system for that. Someone comes out of the side door and asks for your name and what you ordered then goes inside to the kitchen with your payment and tells you when it will be ready. Then it is brought out nice and hot. The Lobster Tail was sweet and delicious and the perfect 4-6 ounces and it's only sweet like that during certain parts of the summer here and then that sweetness goes away so I'm hoping it's still good because I'm in the mood to try that again. I also had the small fillet the six cents and it was perfectly cooked. I asked for medium and this time compared to another business came out just right it was still pink and hot and juicy and that's exactly how I wanted it. I always had the fillet or the ribs when I go there. Both are great. I miss the wedge salad that is my favorite salad at home. I am glad they still have the bread and butter I hope they keep that. For chain steakhouses, I absolutely love Outback. The food is good, the price is excellent and the atmosphere has always been inviting. This Outback in particular was one of the best. Friends and i went for dinner for the second time in a month after a long absence. Not sure why it had been so long since I'd been there other than the pandemic. The food is good for a chain restaurant. I am particularly a fan of the new bloomin' shrimp appetizer. BUT the restaurant was not clean. The light fixture over our booth was coated in dust which occasionally floated onto the table and presumably our food. That prompted us to look a little more closely and the restaurant really need cleaning from top to bottom. And I STILL miss the walkabout soup. read more

Outback used to be where I'd go if I wanted a decent steak for a good price. But I've noticed the Outback isn't so cheap anymore. Almost $40 for a 9 oz sirloin, one beer, and 20% tip. That's insane for an incredibly average steak (sirloin, nonetheless). So I find myself hardly ever going here anymore. There are many better steak places for a similar level of expense. Food is hit or miss. I've been given stale bread and overly-battered fried onions more than once. But I've also been given warm fresh delicious bread and a tasty Bloomin' Onion more than once, too. Very disappointed with our dining experience tonight at this Newington, CT location. We ordered the Bloomin Filet and were served a 1/4" center cut sirloin instead. We questioned it with the waitress because we didn't want to pay the extra $10 difference for a lower quality cut of meat. Our waitress agreed and said she would call her manager over to look at it. When the manager arrived she barely looked at the steak and guaranteed us we received a filet and the company as a whole was working to make all their cuts of meat the same size (?). I use to not want to eat here because I thought the portions were too small. But as I get older and need to drop a few I think the portions are just fine. I am going to try to take everything into consideration here. This is a steak house. It's a chain, so "innovation" comes from the one Chef who designs the meals at headquarters. Franchise operations hire cooks and they try to follow very precise instructions from the home office. Franchise operators get the menu, the signage and everything. This is an upscale McDonalds, in that they serve actual entrées instead of just sandwiches and they have hostesses who will seat you and waiters who will serve table. They have a bar. Three days ago, I went to this restaurant with my daughter, who is 12. Call me old-fashioned, but a 12-year-old's place is NOT in a bar and the hostesses should understand that. I arrived at about 5:30 in the evening. Dinner rush had not started. Most tables were empty. I asked the hostess to seat us at a table for two. She said we would have to wait -- or we could sit at a seat-yourself table in the bar. What? She can't find a table?! The dining room was pretty much empty! And this is not the first time! They will often have empty tables and they will not seat you right away! They want you to wait! The hostess are generally has about four to six hostesses milling around, doing nothing and not seating people until some pre-determined time has passed in a place with lots of open tables, all ready set up for guests. Please refer to my quick photos. I had a good steak. Waitress was very friendly, service was good, kitchen was good. But waiting for a table when there are plenty to be had is just off-putting. Hey, franchise owner! Wake up! There are other steak places around. And there are loads of other restaurants around -- and some of them are not chain restaurants or franchises. Speedy service, quick to the table so you can turn them over faster and make money should be the goal here. The problem is not the food but the customer service. I called ahead to find out wait time and was told 15 minutes. After waiting over an hour, a flustered hostess just sat us at one of the empty tables. You could sense the server was upset but he was still courteous. About another hour later the food arrived. The main reason we went here was that we had a gift card. When we handed the server the card the server said those multi restaurant gift cards never work. So at the table we called the number on the card and was told it was activated and should work . The server said again those cards never work but he would ask the manager. A minute later he came back and said nothing can be done. I would have thought the manager would have come over himself. That's when my wife said "Do they just hate us" and went to the car. I paid the bill and after 5 minutes in the car one of the kids said the were sick to their stomach and felt like throwing up.
