A pescatarian going to a steak house? Hell, yeah! I need to see if there are options. Let's start off with the good. My happy hour dirty martini with a house potato vodka was better than I expected. I ordered pasta with vodka sauce and my husband had pasta Bolognese. Mine was very good. My husband enjoyed his meal. The restaurant was fairly empty at the time we were there. I walked around, it has a steak house feel. Dark, tasteful, a nice wooden ceiling, slightly stuffy vibe, plenty of wine and bottles on display. Now for the nitpicking. For an upscale restaurant, they don't pay attention to visual details. ( within eye-shot) In the corner walking from the bar to the lobby are a bunch wires going up the wall. It looks spastic and messy. There is a closet behind the bar that has a light in it about as bright as the sun. Left open, or even cracked completely throws off ambiance. There is a lot of clutter behind the counter of the bar which might be functional, it also looks messy. I didn't get a chance to check out the ladies room. I overheard they may have a change in the menu. My food was enjoyable, so I may venture in again. My disapproval of the clutter shouldn't prevent you from trying. read more

I hate to admit it, but I've been to the steakhouse now several times and if you have to try the steak! I was in the building to visit another restaurant that does not take reservations, but the wait was too long so I stopped by red Fox prime steakhouse for happy hour. I was served an excellent martini by the bartender Missy, but did not find any happy hour food that interested me that evening. She was quick to point out that they also had a bar menu and I decided to try the chickenParmesan small plate. Priced at only $10. This might be the best bargain in town. A rather generous portion of chicken served with spaghetti mix for a lovely meal. Specially when you add one of the delicious salads or apps. Recommend the meatballs and the roasted beet salad. I have only sat in the bar area, so I cannot comment on the restaurant ambience, but where I did sit was both comfortable occasionally quite lively. I am impressed with the food in the service and will have to stop in the steakhouse and actually have a steak which will perhaps earn that five star review. read more

Wow ! There is a new steakhouse in Glastonbury (been here about 4 months). The company already has a location in Middletown. The bartender (Misty, not here on Wednesday and Sundays) even shook my hand here to greet me! The music in here is perfect too (Frank Sinatra, etc). Red Fox Restaurant is a Mediterranean/American restaurant in Middletown, CT. The space at Red Fox is diverse: In addition to dining rooms, we have a bar, banquet room and alfresco dining on a patio - often accompanied by live music. For my first food item, I'm having the Angus Prime Beef Parmigiana Mini Meatballs in fra Diavolo sauce (off of the Happy Hour menu). These are delicious ! It's a big bowl with a lot of sauce. I mean a LOT. What's interesting is that bartender calls me by my name! That's a good memory. It is unclear how "Fra" became attached to the name of a deviled (i.e. spicy) sauce, but the name was possibly influenced either by the nickname of celebrated Italian guerilla/bandit Michele Pezza, or the opera of the same name by Daniel Auber. For my next food item, I'm having the Classic Wedge salad which is a refreshing cold wedge of iceberg lettuce topped with crispy bacon , tomatoes crumbled blue cheese and topped with a blue cheese dressing. I'm having half the normal amount of cheese . It looks about right! This came out in record time! It is delicious ! For my next item, I'm having a bowl of Pasta Faglioli. This is a homemade soup made with onions , prosciutto (uncooked, unsmoked, and dry-cured ham), beans and pasta in a rich, tomato herb sauce. This is real good ! For my entree, I'm having a 10 Oz Filet Mignon (cooked medium) served with a side of fresh spinach. I'm also trying the horseradish cream sauce. All of the steaks are wet-aged 60+ days. This is delicious ! Cooked perfectly "! The sauce is great! The portion of spinach is huge! Wet-aging has been around for less than 60 years Due to the small amount of filet mignon able to be butchered from each animal it is generally considered one of the most expensive cuts of beef. For my next drink , I'm having a Cosmopolitan. This one is made with Luksusowa vodka. These are real good brands for "well" drinks during a Happy Hour. A cosmopolitan, or informally a cosmo, is a cocktail made with vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed or sweetened lime juice. In 2010, W.J. Deutsch & Sons, Ltd. became the exclusive United States importer for Luksusowa. Before my meal shows up, they offer complementary bread and roasted, red pepper relish (butter is optional). That is a LOT of bread ! I also got a clean knife for my entree. This bread is fresh baked every morning at their bakery in Middletown. It is warm, soft and moist. Wow ! For my dessert , I'm having their creme brûlée with Grand Marnier. Look at this presentation! There is a pastry chef ‍ who is absolutely phenomenal! This is yummy ! For my after dinner, dessert drink, I'm having the Red Fox Signature Martini made with coconut vodka, cranberry juice and orange juice. The smoke is caused by dry ice . This is off-menu and only available to "special" clients like me! It's light, not too strong and overall a delicious drink! I'm near the end of the drink and it's still chilled . We were here a few months ago for a friend's birthday. They were more than capable of accommodating our large party of 14 and 2 babies. Our server was amazing and always buzzing about looking to give recommendations and help fill our glasses. He was the highlight of the visit. Everything else was ok. The food was good, but it did not wow me, especially when it came to the prime steak and its price. I am fortunate enough to have a market near me that regularly offers prime strip steaks at an amazing price, so my rating may also be a result of being so spoiled. We were looking forward to trying this newer steak restaurant in Glastonbury. It was good. But not great. I had the rack of lamb - yes it was a splurge, but it was very tasty, cooked well and served with a heaping mound of mashed potatoes. I substituted the zucchini for asparagus- they were cooked perfectly. My husband also splurged & got the filet. Very good. Cocktail was good too. However the bread was pretty awful. If I am at an upscale, kind of pricey place, I definitely expect better. White tablecloths - we dressed nicer, but jeans would be fine. They had tables outside which looked really nice, but it was still to hot/humid when we went. There is a back dining area too - the cozier 'wine room'. Our server was very nice/good, which made for an enjoyable evening. So, I'd come back for lunch. Perhaps sit outside on a nice day. Tried this first time, the food was amazing. I have ordered the 24oz dry aged Rib eye. It came out on a sizzling plate. And was delicious. The staff were friendly and the service was super quick. The place is huge with three large dining areas and a bar. Some improvements to make would be the tables and chairs need to be more contemporary. Will come back for more. We went for happy hour and stayed all night! Food was spectacular! The clams at $1 for happy hour and drinks half price were a win win right there! 5 star dinner experience!! We celebrated my mom's birthday here, and it exceeded expectations. Service was fabulous. Big shoutout to Meadow who was amazing and gave us such a lovely experience. The food was delicious - best lobster ravioli I've had in a very, very long time (and I am picky!). It was the pasta special the night we were there and it was wonderful. I also loved how accommodating they were at allowing us to bring in a birthday cake for the occasion, and they lit it so nicely and brought it out, sang, cut it, etc. which made for a special evening. I like it. I don't love it. It's so hard to open a new restaurant in Glastonbury with Max Fish and J.Gilbert's as comparisons. A couple notes: 1. The restaurant setup is a little weird, which is expected in Glen Lochen. If you have to potty, you need to leave the restaurant and go down the hall...and some of the tables don't offer any privacy. They cram you in there. Not great for a quiet romantic dinner for two. 2. The service is super! All servers and staff are kind and helpful 3. The happy hour is great! Steak was perfectly cooked with a lovely crust, but just a tad on the salty side. Mashed potatoes were delicious and the brussels were done really well. The ambience in the restaurant is lovely and the music was wonderful. The wine list is extensive and the price points are accessible. Went for lunch and had high expectations. That may have been my mistake. Asked for a bottle of wine that was on their menu but they did not have it. Ordered their filet mignon. The masked potatoes and mushroom gravy was delicious. The mignon was good. Just not out of this world. Also got the chicken and steak tenderloin tips. It didn't come with the Barney rice mentioned on the menu and for some reason the waiter didn't tell us and didn't consult with us to offer alternatives. We just got another plate of mashed potatoes. The thing with bring an expensive place is that with high prices comes high expectations for quality service and good, both which were ok but that's not enough given the price tag. I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, our experience was not up to par for a steakhouse. We made our dinner reservation on Open Table. We arrived early, were quickly greeted, and offered a table right in the front, closest to the entrance and busy doorway. Even though there were plenty of tables open, we were told we could sit at the bar. Not the best seating for a date night. However, this was our monthly date night, as we are parents of 4 and don't get to go out as often as we would like. We were seated at the bar, the table was dirty, and there were used utensils and glass cups. Food: we enjoyed the charcuterie board and bone marrow. Our steaks were okay. Entertainment: it was interesting to hear all the staff's stories and complaints as we sat right by their station. This will not be our first option when planning a date night. read more

Food was great. Portions were very good. A lot of good spices & flavors. The wine was a bit extensive. It's great to have variety, but it was so much where you just got lost in the menu. When we first got sat, the waiter told us that we should "hurry up & order because it will get busy." The rest of the experience felt like we were rushed in & out. We were prepared for a somewhat special place with a high price menu, but the restaurant did not live up to its prices. The food was not special or extraordinary. The special quoted with capers came with no capers, the sauce was bland and rossoto chewy. Same for my husband's dish, sauce bland. The place appeared to have plenty of staff. However I was pretty sure our server had smoked pot earlier, because I could smell it. We rechecked our smelling senses when the server came back, smell was there again. Located inside the Glen Lochen indoor mini mall so you may not even notice its there! I havent been to that mall since I was buying vinyl albums in the record store that used to be in there. So prime steakhouse...did we get a steak? Hell no. Our fave steak place, J Gilberts is up the road a piece, we cant just abandon them! So what do we do? We hit the Red Fox for lunch. 1500 bottles of wine on the wall. Maybe this will impress the locals, but Like Bela Lugosi in Dracula, we dont drink wine. Nice try, bring me the diet Coke First time I went with the 8oz Angus prime cheeseburger. Anytime you blow 18 bucks on a cheeseburger, you expect it to be decent. Was it decent? ROCKSTAR CHEESEBURGER. Did it claim to be on some brioche roll, but when you got it, the roll was the weakest link? Pfffft, even the roll was great! Cheese was good, added the two dollar bacon, thumbs up! I miss the 'Catsup and mustard' place that used to sell upscale burgers on Main st in Manchester. THIS is where I will get my burger fix now. Nicely done. Next visit, still at lunch, we went for the 8oz swordfish steak. We have been driving to the shore or hitting Sadlers in Marlborough for our swordfish fix. So we give it a shot here and ROCKSTAR SWORDFISH!! Nice colour, moist tender flavor, but no MUSH FISH here, its got some good density going on with a bit of crispy skin on the edge. It's sitting on a pile of 'asparagus almond risotto in a red rasberry vinaigrette.' No they dont know how to spell 'raspberry' on the menu, but this is a food review, not a spelling bee. But I do have a risotto issue. Risotto is some overblown pasta type stuff that you see all over the place in pretentious snobby establishments, and Gordon Ramsey is always whining about it, and usually. . . Im simply not a fan. But here...at the Red Fox... ROCKSTAR RISOTTO. Big chunks of... giant asparagus stalk is drifting through it here and there. The raspberry vinaigrette wasnt sprayed all over the top to blow away any risotto subtleties, but was drizzled across the side of the plate all ' ARTSY' and stuff, so you can use what you want. Slick move, Gordon would have appreciated it. They have tilted my risottos sensibilities in the opposite direction. Nicely done. So I guess we have to go back with a pocketful of cash and hit the dinner menu, to explore the next level. See if they give J. Gilberts a run for the money on the filet mignon. Go there. We ordered 2 medium ribeye steaks, the waitress didn't write anything down just (TRIED) to remembered our orders, one came medium rare and the other came medium well and also screwed up our vegetables order. Had a wonderful time last night at Red Fox with our server Henry. The food was delicious and cooked exactly as wanted and the service provided by Henry was top notch. I ordered the 26oz Ribeye and my girlfriend ordered the pasta with vodka sauce and we were both very pleased with how they turned out. The drinks we ordered as well were fantastic and I was given a great gin recommendation from the Tom Collin's Henry prepared for me. Sitting in the wine cellar room had a fancy, almost cigar lounge, atmosphere and was very enjoyable. Very pleased with the food and staff and will be back again soon! Red Fox In Middletown never disappoints and to have one closer to home in Glastonbury is perfect! The edge for friendliness goes to Middletown while the Glastonbury staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. But the food in the newer restaurant was absolutely outstanding. We had the ribeye and salmon entrees and I'm pretty fussy about steak partly because we have it infrequently. The sear was perfect and the "medium rare" was exactly right. The choice of cocktails was excellent and the draft beer choices were very good. The tiramisu blew us away - light, delicious and huge! Would love to see a Chef's Choice menu - this particular Chef has real chops! And if the Bartender would do a "create a cocktail " Red Fox could become a destination restaurant it it already well worth driving for! read more

Really a weird experience. I've waited a few months to write this. Visited in September 2023. The appetizer octopus was out of this world good. But when the filet mignon and fries came out, I was visibly confused. The fries might as well have been curly fries from Sam's Club and the Filet, definitely left a lot to be desired. The truth is it wasn't real value for the price and if it's pegged as a prime steakhouse, it was subprime. The cocktails were delicious so the bartender definitely knows their job. Not much in terms of aesthetics but the bar was buzzing and the bar tender looked like she belonged in the movie Cocktail! And the drinks she was making looked amazing. The bar was crowded with what seemed like regulars. We sat at a high top in the bar as we did not have reservations, which I highly recommend, but they were gracious enough to accommodate us. I had the tomahawk of veal and hubs got steak. Portions were fantastic if not huge and the food was outstanding! This restaurant is definitely not cheap but I would go back because the food was just incredible! Don't let the outside of this establishment fool you. That's what's on the inside that counts! We had a delightful and delicious dinner tonight, and would definitely return. Our meals were not only delicious but the presentation of each course was artistically arranged on the plate. My stacked beet salad was artfully presented and as delicious as it looked, and my stuffed chicken breast was juicy, savory and simply sublime. Our waiter and all staff were great and very attentive but the food was nothing we would return for. White table cloth had stains on it. Filet was cooked well, just wasn't the quality of steak you get in a "prime steakhouse". Mac and cheese side was just ok. I gave 3/4 of my meal to my husband. Lemon drop martini was great! Let me start by saying the food we had was very good and the service was good also, but these are things I expect from a higher priced restaurant. What I was less impressed with was the physical attributes of the restaurant. Our table was crowded into a corner by a main walkway and the dining area in general felt tight. I've tried Red Fox 3 times, each time it was the bar menu during happy hour. The first time I went with several friends, we were all very impressed with the service, our drinks and meals, (meatballs, nachos, quesadillas, fresh pasta, and others). And we were amazed at the generous portion sizes and reasonable happy hour prices. The second experience, all the same, great food and experience! The third time however, I did a take-out of chicken wings and short rib egg rolls. Neither was satisfactory. The "egg roll" was an odd combination of tasteless beef and corn, then they made it worse by drowning them in a sauce; i ended throwing them out. The chicken wings were the worst; it seemed like they took cooked chicken wings that hadn't sold all day or yesterday and merely deep fried them to get them crispy. The result was tough, dry chicken wings, some of the worst I've ever had. Threw those out too! I certainly hope management gets a handle on those two items and does some serious tweaking. That experience isn't enough to make me stop coming here ... yet, but it does stick in my memory, $45. down the drain, just like that! read more
