I went to Carbone's last week for a lunch meeting. There were a total of four of us. The restaurant is very nice inside, the bathrooms very clean and plenty of parking. The service was also fast and friendly. I walked past the bar and another area that was like a counter, but facing the kitchen? I'm not sure what it was, but it was nice. I meant to ask, but forgot. Two people ordered the 8 oz. barrel cut filet, one the Italian sausage grinder and I had the pasta in vodka sauce and added chicken. My pasta dish is not on the online menu, but was offered on the menu inside the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I would normally order a steak, but was in the mood for pasta that day. I thought it was a good choice. The chicken was already diced and mixed in with the pasta and sauce. Food is mediocre in my opinion. Nick's pepperoni pizza with hot honey has good flavor but I think the crust of their pizza could use more flavor. Poached pear pizza is great if you enjoy bleu cheese. Margherita pizza is light and refreshing. Pasta sauce could use a little more salt. Their bread is delightful and full of flavor. Tiramisu was light and delicious. The only highlights of our dinner was the first two drinks we ordered....a Manhattan for the hubby and a Blueberry Lemonade and that heavenly House made Ricotta Appetizer. The fried calamari was decent. I went with the Short rib it was drenched in sauce with giant chunks of carrots couldn't even see the mashed potatoes. The Short Rib was very fatty and the mashed potatoes were to loose. My hubby had a pasta special with Crab which he said was good had plenty of Crab but nothing special. We had a terrible Mother's Day dinner at Carbone's Prime. Our server was dismissive and rude. She expressed disappointment when we did not order alcohol or appetizers. Good thing we didn't because we wasted plenty of money on three entrees that were incredibly underwhelming. I had overcooked tuna, my husband had undercooked steak, and my mother had rigatoni with vodka sauce and chicken scraps thrown in. We had to slowly sip our room temperature tap water served in tiny glasses because the refills were slow to come. We also had to request bread, and rather than speak to us in a normal manner, our server yelled "I thought they brought it" as she was walking away. She quickly walked away several times before we could make any requests whatsoever. We felt like we wasted our time and money to only be disrespected on top of it. The only employee to treat us kindly was the nice woman at the hostess desk who checked in on us briefly during our meal. We didn't want to complain to her or spend the rest of our Mother's Day dwelling on how bad the experience was. Carbone's Prime needs to do better. read more

Finally caught this place open and glad we did. Very easy to get to, plenty of parking, beautiful upscale decor and ambiance. I wanted to like this place but I didn't have the greatest experience. It was a busy Monday night. Our waiter was friendly but very clearly stretched thin as he was running around and not really checking on us. Entrees came out after almost 40min and tasted very average. The salmon ravioli was mushy and super fishy, although the sauce was really good. Salmon was average, the butter beans and tomato ragu was so acidic and bitter it was inedible. Caesar salad tasted like the prepackaged grocery store salads. Calamari was good though. We decided to order dessert thinking it would be fast but we waited almost 30min for it. I heard others also make remarks about how they were at the restaurant for way too long. I don't mind waiting for exceptional food but this food wasn't worth the wait unfortunately. Have gone to Carbone's Prime for two happy hours and had a good experience both times. The outside of the restaurant is unassuming but the interior is upscale and clean, with a nice large bar area. Despite it being a weekday it gets really busy around dinner time (5-6 PM) so be prepared. The bartenders were busy so they weren't particularly warm but were as efficient as they could be being as busy as it is. The drinks were made well and brought quickly. The food came out in a timely fashion and was all pretty tasty-- nothing new or exciting, but just well executed basics like calamari and a chicken caprese sandwich. Fresh, hot and well balanced flavor. Overall a nice place for a nice happy hour, would love to come again and maybe try their dinner menu. read more

Went to Carbone's for the first time on Friday night at 7:15. It was very busy as to be expected! I could tell the staff were doing the best they could but did seem a bit overwhelmed, it did take quite a while for anyone to take our drink & app order (maybe like 30 minutes). However, as the night when on and people left the service improved significantly. Everyone was very nice and professional, it just seemed like not enough staff for the crowd. HOWEVER, the food was AMAZING!!! I'm blown away and have been telling all my friends about this place. Truly every appetizer, side, main dish HIT. The maple glazed scallops were some of the best things I've ever eaten. The side of short rib Mac and cheese was excellent. Steak cooked to perfection. This is only my 2nd time here as it's a bit far from home, but we met some friends who live more south so it was a good middle ground. Being one exit north of the routes 9 & 91 interchange is a great location! Anyway, it was crowded on this Saturday evening, and the elegant decor is worth mentioning. The complimentary focaccia with sun-dried tomato accompaniment was amazing! The meatball app was nice (see pic). Two of us enjoyed the halibut puttanesca with broccolini special, and another got the arugula salad** with salmon. The Salmon was a nice size, but the salad was pretty small. I loved the Eggplant fries and risotto potato croquettes, I would definitely get them again. My colleague and I ordered two entrees to share because we both wanted both. Amazing service, our waitress was all smiles and extremely attentive. Water glass was constantly filled and she had a great amount of knowledge about the menu. I had the chicken picatta with polenta and broccoli ran, it was so good. The polenta could have been a dish by itself that I would order it was that good. Our table also got the ricotta potato croquettes and these were so flavorful. The calamari was crispy and tender. The bread they put on the table is super elevated. They have herbs and oil on them. So good. I had the Creme brulee for dessert and it was incredibly well done. This place is not cheap but everything I ate was incredible and everyone else at my table enjoyed their food as well. Carbone's Prime shares a name with the now closed Hartford South End Italian restaurant that was many people's fav area Italian for Decades. In terms of vibe, I don't feel a connection between the two. Hartford was Old School Italian and you might see Mayor Mike eating lunch at the bar with area politicians business people, and Rocky Hill is going for a modern, upscale Italian Steak and Chop House feel. You can order high end steaks and chops, and pastas and dishes normally more associated with nice Italian Restaurants. Gabriel's in Westport would be a point of reference. My wife and I split the homemade ricotta spread as an app. The spread itself, with very creamy ricotta, honey and pistachios, was delicious. I didn't love the seasoning of the grilled bread pieces they served with it. For me, the flavors didn't work well enough together. I ordered a Bone in Pork Chop Milanese as my main, with a side of creamy polenta. I loved this dish. The pork chop was huge, tender, well breaded and fried and tasty. The grape tomatoes, arugula, mozzarella, balsamic squiggles and fresh parm were all on point. The grilled lemon for squeezing felt like a high end touch. This all looked great on the plate as well. My creamy polenta was well executed. My wife was not a big fan of her eggplant parm. I tried it and thought that it was just OK. You can go a variety of ways with the eggplant when making this dish. My favorite is when the eggplant is not over-cooked, but all the ingredients start to melt into each other. Probably more of an Old School approach. Carbone's went for a more distinctly layered feel, and the eggplant texture did not work for either of us. I would call it a bit too al dente. The atmosphere is very nice and fitting for an upscale Chop House. Our server was very kind and off the charts in terms of attentiveness. He was very concerned about the fact that we were not eating the eggplant parm and he offered to do something about it. We declined since there was nothing technically wrong with the dish, but we appreciated his willingness to address it. Overall, I would say this was a 4 Star experience, primarily because of the eggplant. It would not be surprising if we were up to 4.5 or 5 Stars when we next visit. read more

First off I think this spot is very capable of being a 4 star place I think I just got the wrong thing entree wise. I got the eggplant parm expecting something that was gonna be crispier and have more flavor as a whole and it was very soft and didn't bring a lot to the table. We went to prime Saturday Nov 15th. Very disappointed that I chose this restaurant for my Birthday. The service was the worse. Our server looked visibly irritated when no one ordered alcohol drinks with dinner we asked to place our orders and and said in a minute and walked away. W when ordering meals one couple wanted to split an order and the server sighed as they requested this. When orders were being served the runner seemed very confused and had a sharp tone as well. The salmon and the short rib had very little flavor however for the price the portion size and flavor should have been better. In the end it was the poor poor service that we received that will prevent us from ever going back to Carbone's Prime. After reading previous reviews I see this is a pattern for this restaurant. I wish I would have read reviews prior to picking this restaurant for my Birthday. read more

We asked what did chefs say. She had no answer. She didn't apologize. To be fair, the waitress was polite. That said, she was oddly unaffected, unsympathetic and told us to hang on as if it were a fast food restaurant and we were waiting on fries. Moments later one of the owner's comes by the table. She apologies, and said it's almost ready. She didn't offer anything for the mistake - I had to broach compensation. She took the meal off and didn't charge for the sodas. Finally the steak arrived and I had to eat alone. My dinner companion also ate her entree alone too. It would have been nice had Carbones offered a salad or something so my companion didn't have to eat alone. What made this dinner at Carbones disastrous is less that it took so long and more so that Carbones did not seem to care much. Customer care is just not on Carbones ladder of priority.
