Came here to celebrate a birthday and unfortunately left pretty disappointed. The food took way longer than expected to come out, and when it finally did, it wasn't cooked the way we ordered it. Not a great combo. To make matters worse, our waiter was rarely around, so by the time we even had a chance to flag someone down, the mood had already shifted. Nobody wants to spend half a birthday dinner trying to get someone's attention. We didn't want to make a fuss and ruin the vibe, so we just pushed through, but that's not really how a birthday dinner should go. I don't think the staff was trying to be careless, and I get that restaurants get busy. But between the wait, the wrong cook on the food, and the lack of table presence, it just fell flat for what was supposed to be a special night. When chocolate cake cravings start popping up, Google suggested OutBack SteakHouse. I used to frequent the Clairemont location and have the app available on my phone, so I placed a to go order to sample the offerings of Outback Steakhouse. Easy to place, ready in 20 or so minutes, by 8:06 pm according to the app. Easy to find with lots of parking I pulled into the parking lot and parked at the Takeaway parking, with a dedicated counter specifically for mobile orders. Clairemont location had one similar and a server always came out to greet whomever pulled up to pickup an order. Well, the Takeaway parking is not in an ideal location for a server working the Takeaway to see if anyone pulled in. The sign instructs you to wait in the vehicle and someone will come out. And I arrived at 7:55 pm. No one came out. So I waited and waited. 8:06 pm arrived and still no one came out. So, I go in and there is no one at the Takeaway counter. I proceed to the main restaurant, and had to ask two workers about my predicament. One went into the kitchen to check on my order. Couple minutes later, out comes my order!!! The restaurant was not busy and I can understand if they were slammed, but, their Takeaway needs to improve their efficiency if they want the customer to have a good experience. The chocolate cake was okay. A little on the dry side. However, you can order a cocktail to go and I ordered the Guava-Rita. It was sweet and I think I was supposed to put it on ice. One of the better Outback locations I've been to! I will say it was a slower Tuesday afternoon, so I can't speak for how things are on a busy weekend, but our experience was great. We had a great experience at this location and think it deserves a higher rating. Our food was well-prepared, and the staff were friendly and efficient. My husband and I arrived around 8:30 pm on Friday. It was busy, but not packed. There were two parties ahead of us. It only took about 5 minutes to be seated. Lacey was wonderful. She made sure we had water and bread while perusing the menu, took our order, and made sure everything was correct. We weren't too hungry, so we split a ribeye with fries and wedge salad. I'm not sure why this out back has only 3 stars?! I came here on Saturday night and had great dinner with my two kids. The parking was little too small but you can park at the hotel and walk. I think this restaurant is fairly new? Everything was clean and love that they have outdoor bar are and the vibe was so nice. Probably one of the best outback steak houses I've been to. We had their signature bread with butter which is always amazing. For entrees we got the rib eye steak with broccoli and cheese and rice. And chicken shrimp pasta. They were both very good and my picky eaters ate well. The foods were on the saltier side but overall Im glad my kids ate well. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. My last review was back in 2020. I've been back since but just haven't done an updated review. Tonight (Sun 2/16), my hubby and I went out for dinner for a belated Valentine's. I actually noticed that it's much brighter in the restaurant which was great coz usually it's too dark. We were lucky to have a great waiter which I can't remember his name. They had a 3-Course Meal which I knew as I saw it on the social media. The waiter asked the hostess for the menu as it was not offered to us when we sat down. I chose the Loaded Baked Potato Soup as the appetizer, Coconut Shrimp with mashed potatoes and a side of au jus (to act like a gravy) for the entree and cheesecake with chocolate sauce on the side for the dessert. Shaven brought out a birthday dessert to our table for my wife after we had already paid the check because I had forgotten to mention it, which we were very grateful for. I only have one observation. When I asked one of the server if he knew where the manager was, he told me the manager was the guy in the blue shirt (this I already knew). There was nobody on the floor at the time wearing a blue shirt. I explained to the server that I had some positive feedback to share with the manager, and you would think at that point he would go and find the manager and send them my way, but that never happened. I was slightly disappointing because I wanted to let him know what a fabulous job. His staff did instead of the usual complaints the managers usually hear about . Long time ago another Outback was our place to go in Oceanside on Vista Way, unfortunately, it's closed. So San Marcos Outback is now the closest one to us. Onto entering we required first thing about Aussie 3 Course meal, which we saw online (and it was advertised starting at $14.99), but not in the store- just ask the server and he will explain it. Our server was Jake D. Outstanding, he was the best, really good and prompt with all our requests. It all started with bread and real butter, then our orders were first my boss for $14.99 got the bloomin cheeseburger(minus bloomin petals and sweet potato), she liked it, also house salad with honey mustard dressing on a side (salad was mainly lettuce with some cheese, raw onions, tomatoes and cucumbers on top). My order was for $22.49 a 6 oz sirloin steak (I asked it to be done medium to well done, it came tasty as far as spices, salt and pepper, but it was really chewy, not melting in your mouth. I also got the same salad with the same dressing and the same observation. The fully loaded potato was the real deal for me and 2 New York style small cheesecakes for both of us. read more

Chicken was cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese wow very cheesy and baked potato. My wife had the shrimp on the barbie which was extremely delicious due to the fact all her shrimp and baked potato were gone and she said it was very delicious. Let's get to our service. Our server was a young lady by the name of Rachel who absolutely as a server knocked it out of the park. I would give her a 100% for service water's always full, any item that we may have needed. The main thing is that we paid a lot of money for little 5 ounce steaks that were tough. They should know how to make a piece of meat somewhat tender. We ordered the steak and coconut shrimp dinner. The coconut shrimp tasted good, but that so-called well done steak was tough to cut and to chew, both. It knocked off my temporary crown on my tooth in back, such that I had to go to the dentist to have them install it. I was trying to avoid chewing on that side, but somehow it knocked it off. I will make my steaks at home! Sizzler knows how to make tender well done steaks, so there's no reason this should have happened. The service by the waitress was excellent . We went out for dinner last night only because I ended work later than normal. When hubby suggested the outback restaurant, I thought cool I wanted the koala punch that I had seen since some neighbours posted on nextdoor about it. But the last time we went, we had a bad experience. So we thought, it's been a year. Let's try it again. This year, there is a vast difference. I remembered looking at the parking lot last night wondering if we were going to be served at all going by a previous experience. We were seated immediately to our surprise. Seated within a minute of entering the restaurant. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the koala punch as they were out of the koala. I ordered a castaway. It was a tropical drink pinkish in colour and had a slice of orange in it. My hubby had a drink called aussie Blue The drinks were fantastic and they were fantastic. There were a lot of seats in the restaurant and it was a family style restaurant. There were families with their children there as well. There were also TVs showing sports right at the bar. Our server last night was Mayte! She was very delightful. She was polite and very upbeat. Really needed that attitude since I just had a super long work day. She made our night. We ordered sweet Sriracha chicken bites, a steak with just salt and pepper made medium rare, with a side salad and baked potato and a salmon with baked sweet potato and broccoli. The outback bread was great as usual. And it came with a dollop of butter in a separate container. The sweet sriracha chicken bites were fantastic. It arrived piping hot, and I was very surprised that it was seasoned and very flavourful and very crispy. I truly enjoyed that. What was so amazing was that the steak came as ordered. It was really medium rare as ordered. And lightly salted with pepper just the way my husband likes it. My salmon was nicely seasoned and was flaky without being overcooked. My broccoli was a little overcooked but I don't mind it that way. We ordered another two drinks- both guava margaritas and it was again fantastic! Rare 5 star review from me. Especially for a chain restaurant. The wife and I had a spur of the moment dinner at the outback tonight, and we couldn't have been happier. We were seated right away in a nice booth and greeted promptly by our waitress Mayte. She was great. We ordered a couple of drinks. The castaway cocktail and the aussie blue. Both are delicious. We ordered all our food at once. Appetizer the sweet Sriracha chicken bites. She had the salmon, and I had a filet minion. The food arrived perfectly. My salad first. I ordered the Kingsland steak and shrimp pasta and my husband ordered the sirloin and Alice Springs chicken. The food was just ok, nothing amazing, but I was expecting more for the price. We ended up paying nearly $70 for 2 meals without drinks, just water. The brown bread and butter was good tho, our server brought out several loaves for us, which was nice. My daughter was staying close by for work and i was on my way south to see a client so I stopped by to have dinner and a drink with her. The first thing I see is my daughter sitting waiting for a table and a bunch of open tables in the bar area. BTW, we asked to sit in the bar area because I wanted to watch the US Women's soccer game for the World Cup. The hostess tells me that they are not seating to allow their crew to catch up. I explain that I don't need to be served quickly but I do want to sit down and watch the game. She walks away?? I go sit down and we try a couple of cocktails. One of the drinks was pretty good the other, not so much. I was not a huge fan of my drink and I have to apologize but I dont recall the name.
