I'm a Mexican from Los Angeles, California so naturally a bit skeptical to how good these tamales might be. Okay. So, I've been driving past this little hut for years now and have never tried her tamales. What a foolish thing to do! My spouse brought home six tamales and a few salsas as a surprise for dinner. We had the chicken tamales and the pork tamales as she had already sold out of the beef (this was late afternoon). If you've lived in the Southwest, yes, these are authentic Mexican tamales. Great masa! I don't think she uses LARD which would be my choice for the masa, but these are still great!!! Get a dozen! These tamales were a little smaller than hoped/expected, but very good and flavorful. The salsa is very, very good and with the tamales are delicious. I preferred the pork ones and my friend preferred the chicken, which was good because we got half a dozen split between the two. I'll definitely return here. She also does a very good job wrapping them up to keep them warm in the chilly Alaskan environment. They stayed warm after an over hour long drive to Angel Rock! read more

Loved these tamales!! I was lucky and got to try one of each (pork, chicken, beef). My personal favorite was the beef but they were all really good, fresh, hot (temp), and authentic. I live in Los Angeles where authentic tamales are in abundance so take that for what it's worth while reading this review. Being there in below freezing temps and getting hot steaming tamales was a bonus. If you're in Fairbanks, whether resident or passing through, and you love tamales - this place is a must. The owner's son put her up to this 5 years ago, actually starting on Craigslist. So, I want to thank him for doing that so she can not just share these delicious tamales with family and friends but also with us strangers too. I love tamales and I grew up helping my mother and my grandmother make tamales from scratch. I will say that outlaw tamales are steamed and served nice and hot. I ordered a half dozen of the pork tamales and was a little disappointed at the lack of seasoning. Traditionally pork tamales are served with cabbage, tomato sauce and red hot sauce. Outlaw served the pork tamales with a green sauce on the side. I would like to try both the chicken and beef tamales but don't really care for the bean ones. I don't have any other places to compare them to in Alaska so I will give her my props for keeping these decent tamales alive. read more

You can get them in 6 pack increments-sauce is in the side so I'd you so the tamales are fresh and not weighted down with lots of sauce -get the green salsa verda so good and can run out!! Uh, these are bomb. I used to live in LA, with decent tamales all over the place, and I missed them. I'm so glad that these are here. Cute little tamale "stop" in North Pole with limited hours and availability that's definitely worth stopping by when you've got the yearning for a decent tamale. The owner has an interesting background story if you've got the time and she's clearly mastered the basics of tamale-crafting. The best part for us is that her masa is made without the usual lard as she uses the broth from the meat instead. Better than Mexico! I grew up eating tamales and these are just so good. Tamales are juicy and flavorful. Don't forget about her homemade salsa. My husband hates "green" foods but will sit and drink that salsa all night long, its so delicious. We have tried her red and green chile tamales, but have yet to try her black bean tamales.
