11/01/25 First time trying this place and wanted to try their rotisserie chicken. They are located in the City Square shopping center with a huge parking lot with plenty of open spaces. Got there about 1:30PM, walked in the restaurant and there were no customers. The gal at the counter greeted me but I had to wait a short bit as she was completing a phone order, which wasn't a problem since it gave me time to peruse the menu. The restaurant had a few tables and was very clean. I think the gal's name was Marlita from my receipt. She was very nice and personable. They have a pretty simple menu - chicken and ribs. I ordered the combo plate for $23.99, consisting of 1/4 chicken, 1/2 lb of ribs or 3 ribs, and 4 sides. I chose the toss salad no dressing, mac salad, & double corn. The toss salad was was full of brown lettuce. The mac salad was more like a mac-potato salad, tasted ok, maybe a little bland. The corn was can corn, which was ok with me. The chicken was not too bad. At first bite, it's very salty but once you get past that, it had good flavor. The lemon grass ribs were the same thing, very salty on the first bit but then it was ok. There was a good portion of the 1/4 chicken and the ribs were pretty meaty. It was a bit of a pricey meal to eat. Overall the food was ok, wait time my order was a few minutes, clean restaurant, & great customer service.

Come to think of it, it's been many years since we've had huli huli chicken - not to be confused with rotisserie chicken, which we can get at any number of places. With this in mind, I searched and found Koala Moa in the small shopping complex on Dillingham Blvd. I wasn't sure of its exact location, so I relied on the online map - which led me in circles near 7-Eleven. I finally called and confirmed I was in the right area, just needing to walk a bit further in. Not knowing how big they were, I ordered two whole chickens and sat down to wait. It wasn't long before the lady brought over a large bag containing the individually bagged chickens - which was surprisingly heavy. At home, my wife eagerly opened one of the bags. I told her it would be fine if she wanted to gift the other to someone we knew. She said she would think about it. As we began eating my wife kept saying how "oishii" the chicken was, and she quickly decided whom to give the second one to. We had difficulty finishing one chicken between the two of us. Yes - when we're in the mood for huli huli again, we'll be back at Koala Moa.

Not bad. Wanted huli huli. Got the large plate w half chicken. Sadly out of bitter melon and salad so got the unhealthy Mac/ rice / corn. Chicken had decent flavor but was dry. Sides meh

Koala Moa at 1199 Dillingham Blvd Ste C108, Honolulu, HI 96817 - In the midst of running some errands, my mom suggested we eat some lunch at here! They are located in City Square and are known for their juicy huli-huli chicken (rotisserie style chicken) plates. We each got a large plate, which consisted of 1/2 chicken and 3 sides: white rice, corn, and mac salad ($15.99). I finished the entire plate in one sitting! Although I felt like the mac salad was a bit bland, the chicken was moist and flavorful, and it was well worth the money for the portions they gave! Once we sat down, more people came in and there was enough seating inside for 3-6 small families. The staff weren't the most talkative or friendly, but that's ok because the food definitely made up for it. I can't wait to come back!

Chicken is fire, I asked for the dark meet since it more moist and it was delicious, like a home cook, ambiance I'd say could be a little more designed but if you're focused on food; the food is very delicious and tastey ! Also they were decent and nice in service, price is good too. So yeah it's good especially perfect lunch of chicken and rice !

I stopped by to grab lunch for a friend. He enjoyed it and said it was really good. It's a small place and the lady that helped me was nice. I tried a couple of the takuans that they sell. They were good.

June 2025: Jumbo Plate. Whole huli huli chicken, two scoop rice, and mac salad. Was delicious. $25

Ordered a Jumbo chicken plate, two scoops rice, and mac salad. Chicken was delicious. Skin was crispy and well seasoned. Meat was tender and moist. Huli huli chicken was hot and fresh. Delicious. Service was awesome. Used a gift certificate that I bought. There was an issue and the staff helped and resolved with a smile. Could not be happier.

I placed an order of mini plate with rice and macaroni as two options and "WOW" it was good. The 1/4 lb rotisserie chicken was completely juicy and seasoned just enough to be eaten with a rice. The macaroni salad was also seasoned just enough to be good alone and also with rice. The food was really like a very healthy food. The food was seasoned just enough, perfect, and not too much. Moreover, the workers here are so helpful and friendly. I do highly recommend this place.

We got here about an hour before closing. All the chairs were already up. I'm not sure if they're still not doing dine in or they were just getting ready to close. We looked at the menu and decided to get a Jumbo Plate ($21.99) which was a whole chicken with three sides. We got white rice, corn and mac salad for our sides. The cashier asked us if we wanted the chicken cut into pieces and that it would be $1 more. Since we were sharing the plate we figured that would be easier, so we forked over the dollar. The food was decent. It wasn't the best huli huli chicken that I've had, but it was moist and tender. I like my chicken drenched in huli sauce. If you look at my pics, no sauce.

They actually cut in half 5 pieces of the Chicken Backs and each 1/2 counted as a piece of overcooked chicken jerky! I also got a 1/3 of a breast section with bones and not even a 1/2 of a thigh. That totals my 10 pieces. More bones and excess crispy flour then consumable meat. NOBODY gives a Chicken back (or 1/2 a back)! Not Popeyes, not KFC or Zippy's who will remain my Favorite because I will only get ripped off the 1st time, never again. Additionally, they make you buy the sauce, the reason is due to no seasoning on the over floured bread...but it IS Crispy! The Chicken tenders were overcooked and REALLY Chewy around the edges. Just a LOT of breaded Crispy with no flavor, what "Chef" doesn't even use salt? Really, if you're going to risk testing this food, PAY for some sauce! I hope the Owner reads this and realizes that ripping people off by selling broken pieces that most Chef's throw away because they have so little meat on them, isn't going to keep him in business. The profit margin may be up while folks are trying it, spending their hard earn $$$'s, yet not coming back will be the ultimate demise of this business as many other have come and gone doing the exact same thing, not putting themselves in he patron's position. Ask yourself this: When was the last time you saw a bowl of whole chicken pieces and immediately grabbed one that was back bone chopped in half?

Parking is tough because of the area but there are a few spots out front, would generally recommend calling ahead so parking is less stressful. Their menu was a little confusing to me so here is some explanation: K pop chicken- boneless chicken pieces K chicken wings- flats and drumettes (the two parts of a larger chicken wing) K chicken tenders- boneless tenders only K crispy chicken- full wings, thighs, and breast pieces They offer each of these items as a plate lunch too, with a smaller portion of chicken that comes with rice and salad. I personally like the K chicken wings for the variety and higher meat to skin ratio but my husband really likes the K chicken wings. The skin is shatteringly crispy and flavorful and the meat is juicy. Their honey shoyu sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and salty. You can also request the sauce on the side. I've also had the fried rice which was decent and generously portioned. We once had a complimentary house salad given to us which was unexpected kindness. Overall they do a great job serving up a delicious craveable food that keeps us coming back!

So ended up ordering her furikake chicken and crisp Thai. I got the furikake chicken and garlic chicken combo. Got to cop one of their banana breads, and a large soda. Was thirsty. Good price. All in all came out to $40. They have this little snack area off to the side of the cashier where the banana bread was, but was pretty much empty. Drove home to nalo to eat. Couldn't wait. I must say, their garlic chicken was good. I liked the garlic chicken better than the furikake chicken. To me, the chicken was not dry. Was tender and the garlic chicken had a nice sweet flavor. All was good. Wife enjoyed her food too. The crisp Thai was almost like the garlic chicken mixed with sweet chili sauce to add a little spice to it. That was good too. I uploaded this picture into chat gpt with the business explanation of the pinking in poultry and according to AI, "Pinking" can happen in cooked poultry -- but what you're showing in the photo does not look like harmless pinking. Here's the difference in plain language: Harmless "pinking" (still fully cooked) * Happens from smoking, high heat, or certain proteins. * The meat is fully opaque, firm, and cooked through. * Only the outer edge or near the bone looks pinkish. What your picture shows * The meat looks translucent, soft, and raw, especially near the joint. * There are dark, bloodlike areas around the bone. * The texture looks undercooked, not just color-changed from chemical reactions. Even with pinking, cooked chicken never looks glossy or raw in the center the way yours does. My only complaint are that some of these chickens look like they barely made it past chickhood because a few of the pieces are really small.
