First off... the food was amazing! Unfortunately, the service was a completely different story. Our server, along with another server, provided very poor service throughout our visit. After dropping off our food, no one checked on us even once. We placed our empty cups at the edge of the table hoping for refills, but they repeatedly walked by, made eye contact--even when I raised my hand--and still kept walking. To make matters worse, when it was time to pay, I stood at the counter for at least 10 minutes waiting to settle my check while the staff continued doing other tasks around me without acknowledging me. We stumbled upon this spot and got the sense that it's mainly popular because of the BTS/ARMY hype, since an episode was filmed here. It feels like many of the high reviews are from fans excited to dine in the same place BTS once sat. As for us, the food was pretty mid and the service wasn't very warm. It was also difficult to get anyone's attention. When we first walked in, it almost seemed like they assumed we were ordering takeout, as if dining in was an inconvenience. After we finished eating, we sat there for quite a while before being told to pay up front at the small window. We ordered the meat jun, which came with rice and banchan. It was overly oily and didn't have much meat. I had the soy garlic fried chicken, and again, the batter tasted greasy. There was even an extra charge for pickled radish, which is usually complimentary with Korean fried chicken. A bit of a hidden gem on the corner from Marugame, Mikawon and Vons Chicken is located on Kuhio Ave. We did not see a parking lot and do not believe there is one, so we went hunting for street parking. We actually found one within a block or two away, and walked to Mikawon from there. My friend heard that some of the BTS members went to Mikawon a few years ago when they were in Waikiki. As such, we decided to give it a go. The restaurant itself has seating on the left and right of the entrance after walking in. There seems to be more seating on the left, with a decent amount of tables. The decor on the walls has a lot of drawings and writing in Korean. The drawings are cute and a unique touch to the space. The windows feel pretty blocked off and with some blue lighting inside, the space feels pretty private. We were seated quickly and the banchan came quickly. The banchan was alright. We decided to get the kimchee stew and bulgogi ramen. It felt a little pricey for the items, as the ramen was about $16 and the stew was about $18. However, the portions were pretty decent and the flavors were great. The ramen was very flavorful with a greater depth of flavor than a lot of other ramens. The kimchee stew was also yummy. While the people working were pretty nice, we were not able to get a refill on our water for a while and had to ask them for some more water. We had some difficulty getting their attention as well. This was after we had finished our food. It was a bit late so maybe they were tired. We also sat for a while after and tried to get their attention to get the check. Then, they told us to pay at the register. We may have missed a sign for this as well but just felt like we were in limbo sitting there for a while. We went on a trip to Oahu for ten days and felt we needed something different to eat other than loco moco or pok'e. We were craving for Korean food. Since we were near Kuhio, we found a Korean restaurant across the street from the International Market place. It looked very unassuming. The front just said Korean Restaurant. We were greeted by the host and seated near two other families who were eating. My daughter had a craving for the kimchi stew and I wanted the Vons chicken. We ordered a side of Kimchi fried rice too. Like most Korean restaurant, we were given Bonchan. The ambiance was very unique as the walls were covered with drawings from what I believe to be customers appreciation of the restaurant. Inside is pretty rundown, but they have lots of cute drawings on the wall (some of which kinda look like they came from the same person which is fine but feels a bit fake...). Service was fast but not super attentive. We ordered the garlic chicken wings, mul naengmyeon, tteokguk, kimchi pajeon, and fried mandoo. Wings were nice and crispy, probably the best thing along with the tteokguk which was also quite good! The naengmyeon tasted like it was from a pack, and fried mandoo seemed to be frozen. The lady taking our order was nice. She gets really busy because she is also grabbing drinks and cleaning tables so please be kind. Galbi short ribs: 4/5, lots of good flavor! We spent the weekend celebrating BTS OT7 end of military service in Waikiki and decided to go where the guys went to eat when they were in Waikiki on the Bon Voyage Season 2. I wasn't sure what the food or service would be like, as we were there for the history. Much to my delite, the food and service are outstanding. The barchan is delicious and they are generous with seconds. The Galbitang was flavorful, not watered down. The seafood pancake was one of the best. Kim not a kimchee friend rice fan but theirs ws quite yummy.Most impressive was the light, moist, flakey fish jun. The star walked us to where the guys had sat and let us take pictures. So kind and lovely! The area where the autographs were, had people;e eating so we didnt photo them. Go for the food! The rest is frosting on the cake! read more

I tried Mikawon both in restaurant and via takeout, both times were amazing! There was a relatively short wait time to be seated and to receive my orders The food is authentic and flavorful. The kimchi pancake was so soft and delicious! The dolsot bibimbap was filling. The kimchi soon tofu was a perfect amount of spicy! (Takeout even came with some side dishes included) Even the side dishes are high-quality :) Service was wonderful. The wait staff and the takeout cashier were all very friendly and helpful! They even allowed me to add an egg into my soon tofu order^^ The restaurant is decorated with adorable hand-drawn posters from previous customers, giving it a cozy feel. The Kal Bi (BBQ Short Ribs) was so tough it fell somewhere between regular short ribs and beef jerky. As for the banchan, it was the worst I've ever had--completely bland, like everything had been rinsed in water before serving. We barely touched any of it, including the kimchi. The only redeeming dish was the chicken wings, but even that came with a catch. Their menu is incredibly misleading. The large wall photos advertise prices for 6, 12, or 18 wings, but we were told there's a 10-piece minimum for dine-in because the 6-piece option is "takeout only." It felt like a tactic to make us order more. As for the service, it was awful. Came here around 8 on thursday, did not feel welcomed lol. Ordered eventually and we got the garlic chicken (half) and sweet chili (half), bibimbap. And bu dae soondubu. Total came out to about 69$. You have to ask for water to be served btw, it says on the table. Food came out pretty quick? The fried chicken was decent, the garlic one didnt have that much taste, and sweet chili one just had some sweet and sour sauce drizzled over it. It was crunchy and moist which was good but couldve used more sauce/flavor. The bibimbap... was mid per usual pretty small too, i usually never order bibimbap but family wanted it, their gochujang sauce with it was okay. The soondubu was good, alot of tofu but not thatttt much hotdog or spam but wtv, good flavor. Also the side dishes were not good. They usually bring it before bringing out the main food or like right after u sit but they brought it at the same time as when our food came out. The kimchi was alright, im not normally a huge kimchi person, the bean sprouts were alright, the random salad thing was interesting??? Not sure what it really is lol, they never give stuff like that. This place is a hidden gem! It's a local Korean restaurant (even though located in Waikiki). As a local, I don't love going into Waikiki but only will come to eat here! Also as a Korean person I'm really particular about Korean food and I can say that the food and service here is great! It feels like eating a warm home cooked meal. The menu is extensive and everything is tasty. Plus you always feel so welcomed. Although it's mainly tourist coming to eat here it really is catered for locals too which I love. Also if you are a BTS Army you probably know that they've ate here! Their walls have drawings/writings from BTS Army fans. It's fun to look around! Check out their video they shot on BTS Bon Voyage season 2 episode 6! It's located across the street from International market place where I'll park and walk over. I usually will go to target or liliha bakery (for dessert) to get parking validation. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and excellent service!! read more

A different lady came out with our order and just gave it to me and walked back in the kitchen. Again, no thank you. Oh, well. We've been to other Von's and always wanted to try the Crispy Snow Wings. We opted for the 10 piece. These wings are a bit pricey and that's why we don't get them very often. They are cooked to order so freshness is not an issue. We took them home and they looked big and smelled really good. They actually looked just like the photo on the menu. There was lots of cheddar/onion powder on them. Wow, we should have tried these wings sooner. They were still hot and juicy on the inside. Crispy on the outside. Once we politely asked (the people sitting near the photo) and took a picture of their signatures, she said they usually don't allow that. We were extremely respectful the entire time. I'm playing tourist in Waikiki, and it has been a long time. Much has changed! The place I wanted to go to was closed on Wednesdays, so wandering around I found Mikawon & Vons Chicken. The first time I tried Vons was at their location on Pensacola, so I thought why not? Friendly greeting, I ordered the boneless fried chicken with sweet chili sauce, and 10 plain wings. The crunchy juicy chicken came on a bed of rice, with a side of delicious kim chee and mac salad. Nice large pieces of chicken! I didn't care for the mac salad, so maybe I'll ask if they'd give me more kim chee instead. The wings were nice a crispy, and it all stayed like that in spite of the walk back to where I was staying. The inside is cozy. I loved the messages that were on the walls. I would definitely stop back by, when I'm a tourist again! Mahalo! read more
