I can't review anything except donuts, coffee, and a breakfast sandwich. Donuts are just plain fantastic. They are made with Apple cider, and come in plain, cinnamon, vanilla and glazed. They come warm, fresh, and can't be beat. Coffee is fine, and though the breakfast sandwich took a while, it was good. Still, it's all about the donuts. Best on the boardwalk. Yes. I can't attest to anything else on the menu, but I don't need to. Donuts and coffee on the boards while on vacation makes a vacation a vacation! 4 stars only because my culinary experience here is limited. read more

I'm not one to write bad reviews. Typically, I just look the other way and warn against a place by word of mouth, because I realize that this is someone's business and if it's that terrible, then the outcome is inevitable anyway. That being said, I'm gonna make an exception. My brother orders me a grilled chicken sandwich from this place for pickup and I grabbed the food a few minutes later. I didn't bother to check to see what trimmings or condiments might be on the sandwich because I guess I just assumed for the $11.00 sandwich that it might have some of those things. I asked the nice girl working the register if Mayo was on the sandwich - she didn't know, so I asked for a packet to-go. I'm really glad I did, because when I got home, I opened the loosely wrapped foil to find slices of grilled chicken on a flimsy hamburger bun. I just paid $11.00 for that. Now I'm no stranger to summer beach prices. I grew up in Monmouth County in an area where the seasonal price swing is something you come to know, but this is just pathetic. My family went to Oves to have dinner on Thursday August 8. The food was good, and the prices reasonable, but they did not do the minimum in terms of customer service. On the way there, my nine year old daughter stubbed her toe pretty badly. So, wet asked the for a bandaid to close the wound. They could not find a bandaid! Where we are from in MD, all restaurants are required to have a first aid kit. Oves either did not have one, or they could not be bothered to give us one. As a result, I had to walk four blocks to where our van was parked, four blocks back. And then for blocks after dinner to get the van to pick up my wife and daughter after dinner. Because of their lack of care and response, we decided not to go there again, and I am giving them only one star. They were unable to provide what I consider the minimum of service. read more

Father and daughter had breakfast there Friday, August 5, 2022 around 7:45 am - ordered 2 eggs over light, toast and home fries. The eggs were over done (only one of the two had a semi-runny yolk while the other yolk was almost hard for both of us), potatoes were dry and deep fried potato cubes. Very disappointed. Had Oves for dinner and it was very good seafood. I have the coconut shrimp and old bay crab cakes. The coconut shrimp was delicious. They have a raspberry sauce for the shrimp that comes on the side. I'm not raspberry sauce guy, so I didn't like it much. I enjoyed the shrimp as they came out with the dried coconut. The crab cakes were dynamite as rival some I've had in Maryland. They claim they're the best on the island and I would second that opinion. Staying on Brighton put Oves a block away from our rental and Oves Restaurant on the Boardwalk. We did takeout and dined inside. The food was fabulous: broiled scallops, seafood platter, coconut shrimp, flounder, deviled crab and the best Jersey Corn around. Watching the cooks behind the takeout counter was like watching a ballet - with food flowing smoothly from fridge to plate at a breakneck pace. If you're in the neighborhood- it's a Must Stop. I have had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there, rented bikes there, and have ordered their crazy good freshly made warm cider donuts too many times to count. I have eaten their coconut shrimp, their broiled seafood, the flounder stuffed with crabmeat, as well as omelets, pancakes, and hot dogs. Went here for lunch because it had some great recommendations as a must-do in OCNJ...I walked away confused as to why though. We ordered all lunch things, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, etc... Burgers - they cook these things until it is unmistakably dead, mmmmmm love the taste of charred burgers Waitress brought out one totally wrong item, which was rectified fairly quickly when brought to her attention but then another item, grilled cheese and tomato was missing the tomato.... not the "must do" some hype it as, but it serves its purpose if you just need something to eat. read more

This is a very casual boardwalk restaurant. My family and I decided to try it on our first night in town because it was close to our rental. It was a Saturday night, but the place was very crowded; there was barely enough room to get to our table because the seats were all so close together. Our server was pleasant and the menu was large, but we were just looking for a quick bite to eat. So we order an grilled cheese and a hot dog (for kids), a crab burger, and a flounder sandwich. We also ordered fries and onion rings to share. Our server brought out these cracker with a side of horseradish. I know they're free, but don't bother. They're like giant, rock-hard oyster crackers with no salt or flavor. My husband called them "bread bricks." When the food came out, it was fine. The crab burger was surprisingly flavorful but it had a strange, mushy texture. Not inedible but not great. The flounder was standard. The rest of the food was good but certainly not life-changing. After our meal, someone cleared the table almost immediately. And then we begin to wait to check. And we waited. And we waited... My husband ended up taking our kids to the boardwalk because they were getting so restless in such a small space. After sitting there by myself for about 10 minutes, our server finally returned with our check to bring up to the register to pay. After tip, our meal was over $50. With the exception of waiting for our check, this place is kind of what I expected. The food was just ok. There are lots of places to eat on the boardwalk, so next time I'll try somewhere else. read more

I will let others weigh in on how Ove's donuts rank compared to others in Ocean City. I will just say we ordered donuts to go on two consecutive mornings, and everyone in my family was quite delighted with the hot donuts. We sampled powdered sugar, cinnamon and vanilla iced, and all were scrumptious. More impressive to me were the breakfast sandwiches. When ordering I didn't notice the steep upcharge for meat ($2.45 on top of the $3.75 for egg and cheese on an English muffin), so I was a bit taken aback by my bill. But once I made it back to the condo and had a bite, I nearly forgot the price. People take for granted how an egg and cheese sandwich should taste, but when it is done right, with that delicate balance between undercooked and overdone... the fact that we returned for a second day in a row should tell you all you need to know. Only one ding - we ordered French Toast to go, and they neglected to include syrup. Sometimes French Toast can be cooked so perfectly that one can forgo syrup -- Ove's does not have this down pat yet and the syrup was sorely missed. From what I understand people wait in much longer lines for donuts further down the boardwalk at a competing restaurant. Maybe if I have time to kill I will give them a try, but it seems to me if you can get breakfast this good with a short wait, you're the big winner. You should keep in mind that although the food prep is great, the front staff is made up of and run by kids, so don't expect your orders to be prompt or 100% accurate. These teenagers are more focused on chatting or checking their snapchat than getting orders out quickly. Keep your patience and make sure to check your takeout bag before you leave, to be sure that any necessary sauces or condiments are in the bag and your order is complete. read more

We ate dinner here on our first trip to Ocean City and thought it was average at best, especially for the price. However, on Yelp's recommendation, we got up at the crack of dawn the next morning to snag some apple cider donuts and that was a much better experience. Hot off the press and simply delicious! As of our second trip to Ocean City, we've managed to try all four varieties: plain, cinnamon, chocolate, and powdered sugar. My husband and daughter favor the chocolate and I favor the cinnamon, but they're all good. Since Oves is right on the boardwalk, it's very easy to stroll down to the water's edge and enjoy a nice morning picnic on the beach (no beach tags required before 9 AM). I recommend it. read more

My favorite donuts on the boardwalk in the morning and terrific seafood dinners at night; Oves' is on of the reason's we look forward to Ocean City every summer. The Donuts are our big draw. I even bring a dozen plain home to freeze at the end of the summer. Their breakfast sandwiches are really good too. We do occasionally stop by the counter for lunch. Usually just a grilled cheese or a hot dog for the kids but it's convenient and quick. The counter is cash only by they have an ATM right there even though the $4 service charge is a bit much. We usually close our week out with a dinner from Oves' as well. The kids have a lot of choices from pasta to hot dogs & chicken tenders while the adults usually pick from the specials board. Sesame encrusted tuna, stuffed shrimp, lobster and the broiled seafood combo were all very good this past week. I enjoy the oyster crackers and horseradish that they bring out to the table too. Oves is my favorite place and part of the beach to go when I am in Ocean City. It is family run with a young staff. The Oves family is so nice and always say hello to customers. It is typical beach restaurant food and a great place for kids to eat as well! I always get the donuts in the morning because they are always fresh and warm. The sandwiches are amazing and always under 10 minutes to cook your food if you're getting it to go. Sit down may take a bit longer because they take time making sure the meal will be just right. After you're done, you pay at the front so you can stay and talk or just go right to pay and leave. read more

Ok, We waited for about an hour before even getting a table. Within our sight, there were about 10 open tables that still had to be cleaned up, one of which we could have sat in if someone had taken the time to clean up instead of socializing. There was only one family in front of us, who could have been easily sat too. In front of the restaurant we had seen a large menu with food that brought us to the restaurant. When finally being seated, we were presented with small menus, extremely different from the ones we had saw before, and told that this is only the menu we are allowed to choose from. We had drove for 30 minutes and walked a decent distance just to eat in this restaurant. Extremely disappointed, wouldn't be writing a harsh review otherwise. I didn't think it was possible to make a dry grilled cheese and bacon sandwich until I ordered from Oves. At best, it was below average. Bread was bone dry, the cheese was barely melted and the bacon was left over from breakfast (it's now 2:30 PM). The fries were cold, but decent with ketchup. Lastly, asked for fresh brewed iced tea. We were assured it was brewed in house....WRONG, brewed by Pepsi; powdered dreck. My first and last trip to Oves. Service was mediocre but fast. Location is the only reason for the two stars. Food made me feel ill; from the undercooked calamari, horrible sauces/dressings, uncleaned shrimp and salad with literally giant chunks of toppings one would have to sit and reprep for yourself to be able to eat and dirty tomatoes. The place just reeked of a group of people who just didn't care. You could just just tell no one but the friendly hostesses really cared about their jobs all too much. Well I don't know how the food is because they were not considerate enough to tell my boyfriend and me when we called for directions 10 minutes before arriving that THEY WERE ALREADY CLOSED. Rude, rude, rude. It's in the middle of nowhere, so when we arrived (starving) and were told "Ummmmm we're actually clooooossseeeddd for the night??" we were only too happy to take our money elsewhere. Hmmm...where do I even begin...Let's see...the hostess was totally unfriendly and had absolutely NO personality. The girl didn't so much as even crack a smile. She was emotionless. Got seated and ordered breakfast. I'd called earlier to make sure that they grill their home fries (not deep fry them) and ordered them grilled. They were given to me deep fried because I "asked for them well done". The waitress didn't "ask" me if that was ok and just assumed that it would be. I asked to have them re-done only grilled this time and they did it, only I got cold scrambled eggs back because they let them sit while cooking the new potatoes and didn't warm them up. Orange juice came warm, not cold. And on top of all of that, it was warm outside and they have no air conditioning. I was also given a dirty butter knife- it had stuff stuck to it!!! I was so excited to try this place as I'd heard so much about it over the years and there was so much hype about it and it turned out to be a total disappointment. I wanted to speak with a manager and the lady that I asked turned out to be the owner- even better! Right? Wrong! I spoke with her and she smugly apologized and said "we've had a really tough morning" as if that is even an excuse!!! Will NEVER go back there EVER!!! You want a really nice breakfast where you get GREAT food and GREAT service??? Go to The Sindia Restaurant on Plymouth Place between Ocean Ave. and the boardwalk. We were sat next to the kitchen, the kitchen and kitchen staff looked very dirty...took 20 minutes for waiter to take our drink order, it was tuesday morning and the place wasnt packed but our breakfast took at least 45 minutes to arrive.....food wasnt bad....when we got the check there was an error on the total and we had been overcharged by $9, my wife asked the lady at the cash register for help and she got an attitude and was refused help.....she was told to find the waiter and have him fix it, then they insisted the $9 was for a side of bacon someone had ordered, no bacon ever crossed our table, and if it did, $9????, so after a lot o attitude and horrible customer service they fixed the check.......stay away, this place is dirty with horrible customer service read more

Omg, I don't even know where to begin. Service stank- felt rushed, esp for a place with $20-25 entrees. Waitress had no personality. Didn't say what the circle things (crackers) and horseradish were, never brought reg bread. Courses came out on top of one another. Crab & corn chowder tasted at best like canned soup. House salad was very good. Good size, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, red pepper. We ordered flounder stuffed with crab,coconut shrimp & one daily special the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab. None of us finished our food, because it was not even marginal. Crab stuffing was disgusting, like baby food. No flavor, seasonings in my meal. NJ corn wasn't sweet and my piece was not the freshest looking. Wasn't offered tartar or cocktail sauce. Honestly, it was a huge disappointment and was over $100 plus tip. Never again. read more
